Question Any cases with raised side edges/bevels? - Google Pixel 7 Pro

Although I'm so far quite pleased with the Zagg Gear4 Crystal Palace clear case, which I bought from Verizon at 20% off, several people have commented that it's one of a number of cases whose side (long) edges / bevels are not raised very much, if at all, above screen level and may be below the level of a screen protector. Nevertheless, such cases claim varying drop protection heights. For example, the Crystal Palace, which is made with D30 and D30 Crystalex, claims 13' of drop protection.
Given the greater height of the top and bottom bevels / edges, how much of an issue is the lower side height?
Are there any good quality cases that, without being significantly bulkier, don't have this possible problem?

The only issue will come if you drop it on the edge of a surface, such as a table edge or on an uneven surface. If you drop it on a flat surface, the top and bottom raised edges should protect it.
I imagine any cases that have higher edges would be bulkier.

Super happy with the caseology parallax case. Feels premium, has raised edges and is not that bulky. Also grippy, but not so grippy it won't slide into your pocket.

Where'd you buy it? Can't find any for the pixel 7 pro...

I ended up buying the Caseology Athlex instead. Preferred the look and seems a bit more sturdy. Arriving tonight, will give me views on it tomorrow.

athlex isn't high enough on the sides if that's what you're looking for too. Others have already tried it

The pictures (Official Site) look like the long sides are barely raised, similar to others. What is the real height difference on the long sides? I use the Spigen Tough Armor, but it has the same issue, thanks to the rounded display, I guess Already thinking about a full enclosure box.

I have both the Caseology Athlex and Parallax and neither have the side edges raised enough to be as high as the middle of the display, but that's the way most cases I've seen for curved displays are designed as it's the top and bottom edges that keep the display protected on flat surfaces while the side edges are lower to facilitate swiping. It's hard to tell, but the Parallax may have an ever so slightly higher top and bottom edge than the Athlex.
Both my Spigen Rugged and Tough Armor, as well as my Caseology Parallax for my Pixel 6 Pro were also designed the same way.
Btw, the Athlex is more sturdier, but bulkier and heavier as well.

Oh the joy of curved screens...just another reason they need to GO FOR GOOD!!!!!!!!!!

I bought the
Case-Mate Tough Clear Case directly from the Google shop with the phone together, I need to say it is really good

Athlex delivered. Not satisfied with the protection offered to the screen so I'm going to return it. I have a transparent case I paid £7 for a week back which is better.

When you turn the screen sideways, are the sides of the protector higher than the screen? I don't mean in the corners, actually along the edge of the screen each side?

I found the Athlex too bulky and too grippy. Going with Spigen Thin Fit for now. Whitestone Dome coming tomorrow, I think the Thin Fit will work with it.

Just a bit would be nice. Every protector I've tried so far is below the curve of the screen as can be seen with my current one attached.
Can you take a similar photo if possible before I order it? And to confirm it's the Tauri?

As expensive as they are, I've been using OtterBox cases now for a few years. That combined with tempered glass screen protectors prevents my screen from cracking or getting damaged. I had dropped prior phones several times on a sidewalk and because there was a small rock, the TPU screen protector and the screen both got cracked. That was before I switched to OtterBox

Clarivue Screen Tempered Glass Screen Protector [Mini Review]EDIT:PARTIAL REFUND

EDIT: 8/1/13; Escalated via Paypal today and got resolution today for a partial refund of $20. I Clarivue offered a screen protector as a replacement and I declined. However, I requested a partial refund of $20.
EDIT: 7/29/13; I have been in email conversation with Clarivue and they are not on the up an up. Point being when I ordered, there were no pictures, no claims that the screen protector was made smaller to accommodate the curved glass of the N4. If there were such pictures, why did I ask if there were cut outs for the prox sensor and front cam? They will not even give me a new one to try out again without shelling out another $10 bux. They have lost me as a customer at this point and I suggest that people take heed in this my review and take it for what it's worth. Unfortunately, not worth 27 bux. It's a shame. Like I said, the glass is smooth, but the size just kills it for me. Clarivue claiming that all of this was disclosed when the glass was posted for sale on the site. I know what I did or did not see on that site.
Clarivue screen protector for the nexus 4. Not horrible but the protector is too short and not wide enough. It just covers the width of the screen. So I had to lift to readjust and because of that the side adhesive does not seat on the screen anymore as you can see in the pic. I am back using the iloome screen protector which I took off to try this and it stuck right like it was brand new.
Bottom line, if you have a TPU case or Seidio case of the same sort that has a large lip covering the screen, this may be the perfect protector for you. Using the phone with it was actually pretty responsive, I say a tiny bit better than the iloome, but that's just using for a few minutes.
I was so hoping this was THE protector to get. It's not for me. I mean it just barely fits and does not cover the entire screen like the iloome does. I can foresee dust and debris digging in there pretty easily, especially for me if I kept using it with the sides not seating anymore.
I will place an email to Clarivue. I have spoken to Alex before purchasing this and was told there would be a "restocking fee" but no refunds on these. I'll report back on what he/they say.

I seem to be having the same issue with the protector, it just won't adhere to the sides of the screen. I have removed and reapplied it but nothing has improved. I will talk to them and see what happens since I have bought two of these.
I just want to be clear, The adhesive was fine when you first applied it but once you remove and reapply the adhesive becomes weak? or was it weak since the first application?

How about the fingerprints and the sensitivity of the screen?
Is it better than the iloome or even the MaruLabssilly
Thanks.

It handle's fingerprints pretty good actually. The sensitivity is good as well. If I can use PIE UI, then it passes muster in my book , but the size of it or lack of it IMO holds it back from being a recommend from me.
I'm more upset that you're cheating on your Nexus 4 with an HTC One...
LOL! JUST KIDDING!
Yeah, I mentioned that it looked WAY too short all around from the press shot which is why I wasn't even considering buying one but thank you for the review.
I think I'll try iloome + Ringke Slim. Do you think the iloome will fit well with the Ringke Slim? Thank you.

That HTC One is my wife's work phone . I have the diztronic ultra slim and try that on Monday when I get back in the office with the iloome.
Thanks for the review. Two important things for me is how the screen reacts to fingerprint marks and touch sensitivity. Well, although the size is not really optimal, this protector is one of my favorite choices now.

That's the only thing, I mean the only thing! Size counts here! lol Well that and the side adhesive giving out so easily. You don't have that issue?
OP Updated with the latest Clarivue news. Bottom line, they will not give me a replacement without shelling out 10 bux. And this screen protector being utterly useless, I just wasted $27.
Remember the sides not adhering properly? I though it was me. Apparently I don't think so anymore. Check out their pic on their own site with the adhesive not on the screen on the bottom right.
Yeah, this one looked worse that the Marulabs to me which is why I immediately ruled it out as an option. Just poorly designed and bad adhesive.
They really should refund your money. If I were you, I'd do a charge back with your CC or dispute with PayPal.

I see the slight bit of lift around the edge it doesn't bother me tho. With the screen on you can't see it. And it is convex at the edge, and with the screen off it makes it look a little wider than it really is. Also it does stick to the edge but its not quite as tight.
It doesn't have an adhesive backing it is a protective silicone layer. Its not sticky at all
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Premium HD app. The glass goes from edge to edge on the displayed pucture
Overall your not gonna get any better with a flat piece of glass since it runs perfectly between the display under the glass of the screen

I am glad you like it. I for one do not. Ok if it's not adhesive, it doesn't fit flush on the screen then. Even the picture from Clarivue shows that effect, which fails for me. If you like it, that's all that matters right?
Looks like Clariveu read your review and did some more editing in their product description that I don't remember seeing before.

Slim case that covers the entire metal bezel?

I purchased the S-Line Note 4 clear case with kickstand and it fits ok but it doesn't cover the bottom bezel portion that's under the home button. I've heard that the Ringke clear case has the same problem as well. Any ideas where I can find a clear case that covers the entire lip/metal portion of the Note 4? It doesn't have to be clear but it would need to be a soft case and not a hard one because I don't want the case itself scratching the phone after putting the case on and off a couple dozen times.

It is a soft "hard" rubber case. It is made out of a TPU type silicone. It isn't flimsy. You shouldn't have to worry about it stretching out of shape over time. You have to have battery removal OCD or something for that to happen. lol

Lip Fully covered unless You ate referring to The bezel (white part of screen?) if so, that part had no contact on a flat surface with this case & glass screen protector.
I'm talking about the white bezel around the glass. It looks like your case covers the white bezel on the sides of your phone but fails to protect the top portion. What if your phone falls and smacks the top bezel instead of the lip of your case?

The "case capsule" is pretty slim too. Entire front bezel covered as well.
Seems like the case covers the entire bezel around the glass in those marketing pix. Why does the sides on your pix look yellowish white?
Check out how the case doesn't fit right beneath the home button. I need someone that protects the entire bezel on all sides.

There is a glass screen protector on it as well. I am just as anal about protecting All My Gadgets. Believe Me! I am an accessory junkie I have more cases coming. This One was affordable and won't damage through finish. The lip is slightly raised as well. If it did fall flat on its face it would not get scuffed. I have this case. Tempered glass screen guard & a purse/pouch I put My phone in when it's in My handbag! I Do Not walk The streets of NYC w/ "The precious" exposed by any means. When must make a phone call in public I do say in a spot I deem "safe", that includes from being snatched out My hand to an accidental drop by slip of The hand or a bump during rush hour. I am all over this. I know for Me, this is a good minimalistic setup. Will work great for My car holster as well. I Hate Bulky Cases. Everytime I bought an Outter or something equivalent; I regretted it. Likr someone replied earlier, it's hard to get a good sense of The fit. I have a wallet case on The way as well; I found on eBay. Hope You find something that works for !

I noticed that, too. FWIW, I have the same case on a charcoal black Note 4; there's no discoloration.
Ended up ordering the Ultra Hybrid Crystal Clear case. Thanks for the input folks.
Slapped on the Spigen Ultra Hybrid onto my White Note 4. Covers up the white bezel below the home button better than my S-Line clear case but not completely. Bummer...

Spigen Capsule for Note 4

I saw this case and seems to be very effective. I don't care about scratches in the chamfered edges as the metal polisher does his job very well. I just don't want to have scratches in the backpart or the painted bezels, and put the phone face down without scratching the screen. Does anyone have this case? Also, I want to know what material is it, TPU? Plastic?

The back part is a grippy tpu material the border is plastic or metal depending on which version you get. This case hasn't scratched my bezels or edges at all and it does have a slight lip to protect the screen when laying on flat surfaces.

I had one on my Galaxy S5. Its a tpu style case. It had a small lip so you could lay it flat face down with no worries.
I got this case. Like stated above its a tpu case with a grippy back. Does have a lip so u can lay it face down. Adds very little thickness to the phone. Buttons are very responsive i just wish they stuck out a bit. The buttons are flush with rest of the case as shown in the first picture
I have this case as well. It's thin, it's grippy and I haven't noticed it leaving a single mark on the phone yet.
Only downside I can think of is the quite sharp edge surrounding the USB port on the bottom which might make it less comfortable to hold if you hold the phone with your pinky at the bottom.
Overall I think it's a great case

I also have the Spigen "Neo Hybrid" case. Fits well, buttons are very responsive, no complains. I just would like it to be thinner but given the fact that this case was the only one I could find in Uruguay for my Note 4 I can't complain at all.
I recommend it.
Regards.
I have this case, I got it mainly because I loved the Bounce case for my note 3.
I really like it it's thicker than that normal tpu and feels good in the hand. It covers everything minus the screen and the cutouts are right. I think it's worth the 10.00 price tag, it's not as thick as the bounce case, but it still works well.

For a case that fits and protects, and is aesthetically suiting, I'd agree that $10 is very reasonable.
the buttons might get annoying.. i had the spigen with kickstand and the buttons annoyed the hell out of me. for a simple tpu case, i always go with diztronic.
also.. WTF spigen?? really auto focus embossing?
Don't buy this case, I was dumb enough not to read the reviews on amazon before purchasing it off of eBay! The case scratches the beveled shiny edges of the note 4, if you don't believe me check amazon for yourself.

nice try but its TPU it does not scratch the case, i have 3 of these and not a single scratch on either note 4 phone.
If this case scratches the sides so do all the other spigens with tpu inside. The only one that does scratch is the hardened plastic thin one (which i also have as well).
This is a comparison even though it wasn't specifically asked for. The Capsule case was my first purchase for the Note 4 because I liked the look, but it only led to dissappointment for me. Thus my reason for the comparison.
Spigen Capsule case:
Cons:
It is a loose fitting case compared to some of the others I prefer. Allows sand and dust in between the case and the phone which then causes the scratching that everyone talks about. Desert evironments are particularly bad.
It is a sharp case (it won't cut you, but it can be uncomfortable) at the bottom near the usb port and along the edges.
The button coverings are mediocre at best. They make button pressing less appealing especially for the volume.
Pros:
The case is fairly attractive for a TPU case (more so in pictures than in person).
The case has decent grip
Slim case
Samsung's Protective cover is the same size and profile:
Cons:
Not the most grippy case, but adequate.
Pro's
Slim case
Tight fit on the phone. Little room for particles to get trapped between the bezel and the case.
No sharp edges.
Does not collect grime and oil smudges like most cases. I literally never have to wipe it down.
Best looking TPU case I have seen for the Note 4.
Button coverings are clicky and feel great
Capsule pics
Protective Cover pics
I have read a lot of good reviews on the Samsung Protective Cover. It seems like you really can't go wrong with that one.
I have the Neo Hybrid Metal version which looks very similar to the capsule. My case has been on for 30+ days and I removed it to look for scratches. Nothing. Looked great. It looked just as great as the day I put it on. I think the scratching may occur when dust/debris gets between the phone and the case. I am very anal about cleaning every surface before I put the case on.
Also I have a at&t note. Read carefully it seems verizon and sprint variants moved one of the microphone holes. A lot of people are drilling new holes to uncover the relocated microphone...
will this case stand on its side and bottom on its own?

Looking for case with raised lip on sides and not just top and bottom

I like the Samsung Rugged Cover and Spigen Tough Armor, with my preference being the Samsung.
However, I would really like a Note 9 case, if one exists, with a raised lip (border) on the sides (left and right) to protect the screen better than cases with just a top and bottom raised lip.
Does such a case exist? I am not looking for added bulk like the Otterbox Defender which is too bulky given the large size of the Note 9 as it is.
Ideally looking for something similar in type to the two cases above, but with a raised lip on the sides as well.
Update:
After watching this drop test video, done without any case or screen protector, I am more comfortable with not having a raised lip on the side of the case.
I have the Otao screen protector and was amazed with its ease of installation and lack of bubbles, all at a great price.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07G82LN78/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Based on the video, I think the Samsung Rugged Cover (picking it up tonight) combined with my Otao screen protector, will do a good job at protecting my Note 9, even with no side lips on the case.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sCZeIW0PY7w
Quick update.
I got my Samsung Rugged Cover case last night.
It looks great, fits snugly, does not interfere with my Otao SP and is well built. Really love the kickstand!
My only concern - I did notice, now that I actually have the case, that not only do the case sides not have a raised lip (which I was already aware of), but the case lip on the sides is actually below screen level.
This is my first curved phone screen so I am learning about some of these nuances.

Besides repeating yourself, how do expect to use the screen if the case is level or above screen level? This is my first curved screen also. Think about he utility of the phone with what you are proposing.

I picked up a black one at Best Buy today and am very pleased with it. I too wish the sides were a bit taller but every case I tried is about the same in that respect. Still it's a nice rugged case with good grip but sleek at the same time. The two Tech21's I tried were very loose fitting on the bottom end where the ports and pen are. The Otterbox Defender Pro was way too bulky and not so screen protector friendly or wallet friendly at $60+.

No, try the Ringke Wave. That mofo has huge raised edges . However, the in hand feel is somewhat fatiguing with the agressive edges on the sides of the case.

Thanks for the tip, but the Ringke Wave, for the Note 9 at least, does not seem to have raised lips / edges on the left and right sides, unless I am missing something.
Any photos that show the raised side lips? The ones I checked on Ringke's page show it is like all the other Note 9 cases in that regard.
I am not concerned about the very edge of the screen being hard to access; screen protection is much more important.
I dropped a couple of heavy books in my garage this Friday when rushing to a meeting for work with my hands full. The thud was so loud that I thought I had dropped my phone on the concrete.
Thankfully I had the phone in my pocket; but it gave me renewed interest in finding a case that protects the sides of the Note 9 too, as there are certain drop scenarios where top and bottom raised lips are not enough to prevent damage.
If having Liquid glass on the screen or a 9H tempered glass screen protector (I have the Otao tempered glass protector based on recommendations here) is good enough to prevent screen damage in such scenarios, just let me know, and I will gladly keep my current case (Samsung Rigged Cover).
Encased Rebel has raised lips on all 4 sides, which does help protect the screen. I had the same case on my Note 8.
You can find it on Amazon.

The Ringke Wave does have sharp raised edges on the left and right hand side. I think the next realm of bigger raised edges might be found on more overall heavier and bulkier case types which I don't own.

Thanks again! The Ringke Wave may have a taller lip than other Note 9 cases if that is what you mean by raised?
However, based on all the photos or videos, it still appears the left and right side lips are still lower than the screen (which I am aware is the same limitation other cases have due to the Note 9's curved screen). If I am missing something let me know, but the lip is still lower than the screen.
If you have any photos that show the lip being above the screen, let me know; I would be more than happy to be proven wrong.
I don't need the very edge of the Note 9's screen for any touch functionality; I am happy to sacrifice that to get more protection in the form of a taller lip in case of certain drop scenarios where the top and bottom lips alone won't help prevent screen damage.
If no such case exists for the Note 9 (have yet to find one), I will double check whether my Otao 9H tempered glass screen protector is up to the challenge of protecting my Note 9, or whether I need to invest in a different screen protector or liquid glass...

You were right. I placed a steel flat ruler across the center area and it touches the screen which obviously states the edges are not high enough. Sorry.

Unfortunately with the current design of Samsung's flagship devices the majority of case only have the raised lip at the top and bottom of the display edges.

Correct. The Armadillotek case is the only one I know of that has the sides raised high enough. Even the otterbox Defender is only about even with the screen.
When the Note 7 came out Tech21 made a case called the Tactical XT that had sides raised above the screen.

Thanks a lot for the info! I've been looking into the Armadillotek case since seeing your post above. Probably going to try it; reviews say it does not add much bulk but, as you mentioned, it has a raised lip on the sides too. The side lips are lower than the top and bottom lips, but so long as they are raised (which they are) this case provides more security against glass breakage than other Note 9 cases, all other things being equal.

Thanks a lot! Missed this post yesterday.
Seems like this is another potential option. I like the elegant no-nonsense look of the 'encased Rebel.' Too bad they only have black and don't have a dark blue model for instance.
So now it is between the encased Rebel and the Armadillotek, unless there are any others with raised side lips?
Going to compare the sizes of the two cases and see the difference in side lip protection between the two.
EDIT - Looking at some photos it is a bit hard to tell exactly how much of a lip the Rebel has on the sides, but the side lips seem somewhat small, compared to Armadillotek?
EDIT2 - Got the answer from Amazon:
"Do the sides sit above the edges of the ridiculous curved screen?
Answer: Haven't received my Note 9 yet, will update when I do.

Thanks again all for the helpful suggestions! I ordered the Armadillotek case and should be getting it in a few days. I'll share my feedback in this thread; hopefully it will be useful to others with similar needs.
The Encased 'Rebel' case was also in the running; I actually like it's looks a bit more than the Armadillotek; however the Rebel's side lips seemed smaller than the Armadillotek's side lips; also the latter has a useful stand (like my Samsung 'Rugged Cover' case).
what was your conclusion? Did it work?
Im curious myself as to the conclusion.

Glass Screen Protectors

With the FLat Screen on the GOOGLE PXEL and Pixel 4 XL - getting quality screen protectors is going to be much easier than it has been in the past with curved glass screens.
I ordered my screen protector form Amazon - The AMFILM Glass Screen Protector
and I am very happy with the results. Comes with the usual accessories and a 'frame' for installing the screen protector. The box includes 3 glass screen protectors in case something happens with the first one. The price
is very reasonable, just $8.99. Installation was a piece of cake - no bubbles - installed quickly - no halo around the edges and case friendly.
I have used AMFilm Screen protectors on other phones and have always been very happy with their customer service and the quality of their screen protectors. I installed mine and then put my Spigen Crystal Clear case
on and I feel it is nicely protected. Looks great too!

Look for the ESR tempered glass. Black borders but it's full adhesive and fits perfect. has an installation frame so no alignment issues. 2 pack for 15 I think.

Yup - lines up perfectly when installing with the installation tray.
I went with this one:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07WHN62XS/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_i_fdUSDbJE435Z5
It's a 3 pack as well, a little less cost and has the grooved cutouts instead of the straight flat line at the top. Will see how well it applies and handles.

I currently have these on and the fit isn't the best. I get a slight halo on the top cutout and a little on the lower left side. I'm pretty sure if a installation tray was included it would solve the problem. I also gave these a try but the black border covered some of the viewable screen and the case was pathetic so I sent them back. I will be getting the AMFILM like the OP today. Those were great with the 3XL.

I like the ESR TGSP too for the 4XL. I was able to install it bubble-free with the included tray and I like the fact it's full adhesive. This is probably the best one out there right now until Whitestone Dome makes one for the the Pixel 4 & 4XL.

The only issue I have with the ESR is the borders cut into your display so you loose a tiny bit on the edge.

The installation was drop-dead simple. The included positioning frame makes it really easy.
No bubbles.

Case friendly.
Finger print resistant.

Does your screen protector seem too narrow and not wide enough? I am tempted to get the same one but the reviews on Amazon seem to consistently complain how the screen protector isn't wide enough to cover the entire screen
every TGSP on Amazon seems to have issues with being too narrow...
I also like the reviews which were all written months before the phone was released too! All were 5 stars...

The Pixel 4 XL's screen is curved/rounded near the very edges. This means that any tempered glass screen protector is going to have to be a couple millimeters smaller than the screen, so that it doesn't develop a halo (due to dust & debris finding it's way under the screen protector near the edges where there's little/no adhesion).
In my opinion, the amFilm tempered glass screen protector is VERY precisely sized so that it doesn't develop a halo, yet covers ALL of the viewable/back-lit screen area.
I am very happy with the fit
I've tried a few screen protectors so far and finally found one that has zero halo and covers the visible part of the actual screen. I also comes with an install frame for aligning it properly.

I have the amFilm as well, and it definitely feels too narrow. Not visually, but it's not pleasant to use with the back gesture. Your thumb ends up rubbing on the sharp edge. Other than that, it seems very high quality and fits very well.
I also tried the Pleson screen protector, and I highly recommend avoiding that. It doesn't adhere properly at all. I tried installing two of them with no luck, and threw away the third. Complete junk.
I've ordered the IntelliARMOR screen protector to see how that works.
Edit: Now that you mentioned it and I took a closer look, the amFilm is definitely too narrow, and there are portions of the screen sticking out on both sides. I'm just going to take it off, I can't unsee it now.
