Google Nexus 4 Screen Protector Steinheil Dual

Just a heads up for any fellow SGP fans. They now have a crystal clear protector for the front AND back of the N4. i really wish they had an ultra eleophobic version, but i've used the crystal clear on my e4gt and have been extremely satisfied with the quality of the product. clarity is crystal clear just like the name states, and its very durable.

I think the front only covers the screen areas not the curved parts. The back since its flat might be fully covered

guess the complaints come from people who bought it early.
SGP has stated that they now include the proximity sensor cutout for all their N4 screen protectors.
Bought the dual protector and will see if its good. been holding off for too long to let the companies iron out the creases

these do have the proximity sensor cutout. it doesnt cover the front completely due to the curved glass, the following is a review of the oleophobic protector on a One X which also has curved glass. the reviewer points it out at about 1:50. I actually dont mind it, and it isnt even noticeable. only way you're going to get one that covers the entire screen is if its a wet application protector. but the quality/feel of wet apply protectors is just not for me.

No SGP protector completely covers the front screen. They are cut too short all around and do NOT extend to cover the area just before the curved glass and the curved portion itself.
There was also massive issue with the proximity sensors malfunctioning due to SGP. They have allegedly "revised" it but no telling if you get stuck with some old stock.
Personally, I've owned and dealt with SGP. Too many negatives with their product and too many other better choices to be bothered buying from them anymore. I can't recommend them but good luck to those that do buy.
Note: If you want a screen protector that covers the ENTIRE SCREEN including the curved edges with cutouts for Proximity censors and camera, I highly recommend Skinomi. :thumbup:

I got the SGP before they fixed it, no cut out so the phone was a pain to use, also if you do not get the screen protector exactly in the center of the screen one side tends to lift due to the stiffness of the film. I sent mine back and ordered a Skinomi, should have that tomorrow.

Funny as my Spigen does not have the proximity cutout, only the camera and everything functions as it should.

Yes, I've had my Skinomi on for over a week (front & back).
The screen protector adds a tiny bit of grip which is great for keeping it from sliding off surfaces. It's not sticky like I've found some other screen protectors like Zagg but it's not as butter smooth as the naked screen, as to be expected!
My fingers glide smoothly over the screen with no noticeable drag. So far it feels great. Again, not as good as the naked glass but almost.

I ordered the oleophobic screen protector for my N4 (which I'm still waiting for from Google) and found out I did not receive the revised one. A quick email to them ended up in me receiving a second set for free days later without needing to return the ones I already have :laugh:
I find Skinomi and most wet application screen protectors to easily form imprints and wrinkles that don't "heal" perfectly after a while, although still not bad. Just received an XOSkins full body kit from their Cyber Monday sale which I'll compare to the Skinomi one on my iPod Touch. I'm also getting the bumper, so the lack of full coverage on the SGP really doesn't affect me.

I just got my oleophobic and although it seems to be recommended by everyone, it got scratched from day one. Never had the same problem with Zagg or others. Conclusion: I wouldnt recommend SPIGEN! Sounds fancy - "olephobic"- but doesn't actually protect or fit as well as others.

Oleophobic coatings are always softer than glass. By ordering that one, you essentially chose fingerprint resistance over scratch resistance. Glass with oleophobic coatings is also more prone to scratches because the coating itself scratches or wears down with use. Ask anyone with an iPhone 4.
If you want scratch resistance, get a harder screen protector (like the Ultra Crystal).

i would be looking forward to have this skin compared to the XOskin protector. I've used XO skins before and they are great! but i wonder how this does when they are side by side

Clarivue Screen Tempered Glass Screen Protector [Mini Review]EDIT:PARTIAL REFUND

EDIT: 8/1/13; Escalated via Paypal today and got resolution today for a partial refund of $20. I Clarivue offered a screen protector as a replacement and I declined. However, I requested a partial refund of $20.
EDIT: 7/29/13; I have been in email conversation with Clarivue and they are not on the up an up. Point being when I ordered, there were no pictures, no claims that the screen protector was made smaller to accommodate the curved glass of the N4. If there were such pictures, why did I ask if there were cut outs for the prox sensor and front cam? They will not even give me a new one to try out again without shelling out another $10 bux. They have lost me as a customer at this point and I suggest that people take heed in this my review and take it for what it's worth. Unfortunately, not worth 27 bux. It's a shame. Like I said, the glass is smooth, but the size just kills it for me. Clarivue claiming that all of this was disclosed when the glass was posted for sale on the site. I know what I did or did not see on that site.
Clarivue screen protector for the nexus 4. Not horrible but the protector is too short and not wide enough. It just covers the width of the screen. So I had to lift to readjust and because of that the side adhesive does not seat on the screen anymore as you can see in the pic. I am back using the iloome screen protector which I took off to try this and it stuck right like it was brand new.
Bottom line, if you have a TPU case or Seidio case of the same sort that has a large lip covering the screen, this may be the perfect protector for you. Using the phone with it was actually pretty responsive, I say a tiny bit better than the iloome, but that's just using for a few minutes.
I was so hoping this was THE protector to get. It's not for me. I mean it just barely fits and does not cover the entire screen like the iloome does. I can foresee dust and debris digging in there pretty easily, especially for me if I kept using it with the sides not seating anymore.
I will place an email to Clarivue. I have spoken to Alex before purchasing this and was told there would be a "restocking fee" but no refunds on these. I'll report back on what he/they say.

I seem to be having the same issue with the protector, it just won't adhere to the sides of the screen. I have removed and reapplied it but nothing has improved. I will talk to them and see what happens since I have bought two of these.

I just want to be clear, The adhesive was fine when you first applied it but once you remove and reapply the adhesive becomes weak? or was it weak since the first application?

I thought it was my fault but based on Android9000's post, he/she is having the same issue around the edges.

How about the fingerprints and the sensitivity of the screen?
Is it better than the iloome or even the MaruLabssilly

It handle's fingerprints pretty good actually. The sensitivity is good as well. If I can use PIE UI, then it passes muster in my book :laugh:, but the size of it or lack of it IMO holds it back from being a recommend from me.

I'm more upset that you're cheating on your Nexus 4 with an HTC One...

That HTC One is my wife's work phone . I have the diztronic ultra slim and try that on Monday when I get back in the office with the iloome.

Thanks for the review. Two important things for me is how the screen reacts to fingerprint marks and touch sensitivity. Well, although the size is not really optimal, this protector is one of my favorite choices now.

That's the only thing, I mean the only thing! Size counts here! lol Well that and the side adhesive giving out so easily. You don't have that issue?

OP Updated with the latest Clarivue news. Bottom line, they will not give me a replacement without shelling out 10 bux. And this screen protector being utterly useless, I just wasted $27.

Remember the sides not adhering properly? I though it was me. Apparently I don't think so anymore. Check out their pic on their own site with the adhesive not on the screen on the bottom right.

Yeah, this one looked worse that the Marulabs to me which is why I immediately ruled it out as an option. Just poorly designed and bad adhesive.
They really should refund your money. If I were you, I'd do a charge back with your CC or dispute with PayPal.

I see the slight bit of lift around the edge it doesn't bother me tho. With the screen on you can't see it. And it is convex at the edge, and with the screen off it makes it look a little wider than it really is. Also it does stick to the edge but its not quite as tight.
It doesn't have an adhesive backing it is a protective silicone layer. Its not sticky at all

Overall your not gonna get any better with a flat piece of glass since it runs perfectly between the display under the glass of the screen

I am glad you like it. I for one do not. Ok if it's not adhesive, it doesn't fit flush on the screen then. Even the picture from Clarivue shows that effect, which fails for me. If you like it, that's all that matters right?

Looks like Clariveu read your review and did some more editing in their product description that I don't remember seeing before.

The screen is curved at the edges. So if you use a glass protector it will be sticking out (about 4mm) all around the edges. Right away it looks bad, because you can see that the screen protector is not sticking all the way to the edge. In a few days it becomes very very bad once it picks up dust and lint from the pockets. It doesn't really look like a halo (a ring of light), but rather a ring of garbage.

Hahaha first have to say I like your username. The halo effect with glass screenprotector is caused because the edges of the screen seems to be rounded off. As a glass screenprotector is not flexible it does not make full contact on the edges of the screen. This is causing de the so called halo effects AFAIK

Ahh... I see I have had that in the past will nearly all screen protectors I have bought (never had a glass one and still havent yet) now I understand the effect. I do find it can be mitigated by the cases used but more often than not the protector starts looking grubby and comes up at the edges so much so I need to replace it. Thanks for informing me!

I had one on currently. It did not cover the edge of screen (black glass) fully. Not sticking fully at side. Can see gap. There alittle bubble at side but not visible.
What annoy me is the rainbow light effect at the side when i use my note 4. Not visible on dark background.

nope, that's just the rainbow effect.
I thought the Halo effect also included when the screen protectors were cut too short, and had an excess gap from phone edge to protector edge. Haven't a gap is necessarily a bad thing if one is using a case that wraps around the edge, but does not include a screen protector like many of the cheaper TPU or hybrid cases.

Another type of halo?
I hadn't thought of the halo as being where a glass screen protector isn't sticking to the curved edges of the screen, but that does make more sense than a separate sort of "halo" that I've observed and disliked. Namely, even for a screen protector cut narrow so that it only covers the flat screen surface, I've still seen a perimeter "ring" that was distracting, not seeming to be 100% optically transparent. After removing the Bear Motion (not to fault them, but rather I suspect this is common to many brands of glass screen protectors) screen protector, I examined it under a 10x magnifier and confirmed my suspicion, that the PET film the glass is layered with, is cut smaller than the glass itself. The result is that a perimeter margin exists where, presumably, there is only glass, and maybe the reason it doesn't seem 100% optically transparent is due to the polishing to achieve the rounded edge. No expert here, this is just pure speculation on my part, but nonehtheless, I don't like the visual appearance this results in when the screen protector is applied to my SGN4 screen.
I'd be interested in seeing a tempered glass screen protector where the manufacturer does have 100% exact matching cuts of each layer of material used in making the protectors. Moreover, should the oleophobic coating introduce any "tinting" for lack of a better word, then I'd also like to know the coating is also 100% edge-to-ege on the protector so that no matter where one looks, there are no margins but just 100% edge-to-ege optical transparency through all layers.
For now, I'm of the opinion that the best screen protector for the SGN4 may well be the premium PET film protectors rather than tempered glass ones. For use with my Platinum series (Best Buy's "Seidio Surface" case) case, the glass screen protectors seem almost too thick to use, as the case is a very snug fit across the face of the phone. Holding the phone in the case, there is a feeling of some give to the case which may be just enough extra room to use a PET film screen protector that extends over the screen curves and allows the case to slip on without snagging an edge. That said, I'm very tempted to just use my phone with the screen in "naked gorilla mode". That is...just the bare Gorilla Glass screen.

Jesus christ. I just paid $30 at some Chinese place and the fit looks alright (99% pixels covered). It I see this in a week, I will be beyond pissed. The store will get an earful if they play the we didn't sell this to you since I paid cash.
Edit - welp, go figure. Small halo (1-2mm for now) about 2 hours after install. Too bad I am gone, next time I will be in the area is a week from now... Not sure if I should go back tomorrow... What a ****ing piss off. Should have went with my intuition.

I went with amFIlm Premium Screen Protector. It's not good, nor bad. You get a pack of three for $4. It's not glass, but it's not a mutlilayer plastic either. It doens't feel like glass. It's dry application. It does cover viewable screen. Does have some flex so you can get it not do the halo thing. I personally applied and the put the GN4 between a bunch of books for a few hours to make sure it adhere well. Since it's cheap, it's not a big deal if it scratches; better than the actual glass.
This give some time for the everyone else to try out the more expensive screen protectors and thus, we can read and see their results. Personally, I'm waiting for the Just Like Glass people to decide if they're going to release something. I wrote them and was told they might carry it and that the owner was considering getting a Note 4, who would be the genie pig for the fitting.

Just remove glass sp & have it check for scratches and dirt. Wipe it clean too. Pasted a new snti glare guard since sweaty palm. It look good without bubble and goid touch too.

My experience so far
So far as i can tell there are no 100% perfect screen tempered glass screen protectors out there. i Myself have a spigen slim tr installed on a black Note 4 with a titanium Verus iron shield and you can barely see any halo. Honestly the little halo i do see is less thick then business card and barely thicker then a sheet of standard paper. I do not have my hopes up at all that we will see a tempered glass protector that is 100% perfect because it would also require users to install it 100% flawless. Its glass guys, there's no real give, unless they use an adhesive that will fill in the gaps, but that may inhibit the spen functionality which then negates the purchase of the Note all together. I would recommend to anyone doing their own install, to use the bathroom steam prep method, along with the hinge method. These two together prove to be the most effective in avoiding any issues. That being said, i am unable to really tell if what i am seeing is truly a halo effect, or the curvature on the glass refracting the light. its been on for over 2 weeks and has dealt with my day to day wear and tear which includes going to the office, gym, bars, outdoors for a hike, all without any shifting or scratches. Either way i am thrilled with the application of my screen protector and wish you all the best in yours.

Halo efect solution
I have a note 4, bought a cheap screenprotector, so, i did now the problem of halo with my old screenprotector, i had some glue from my whitestone screenprotector from my note 9, so i used that glue for my note 4 with the sceap screenprotector, results are very good, no halo at all, did come out very nice, applied it the same way as normal with a whistone protector, so, maybe i can help someone with this system, i don't know where you can buy this glue seperate, mine was from whitestone, maybe someone knowes were you can buy this glue, in the future i will only do it this way, i can recoment this, by the way, excuse me for my poor english, i don't do this every day, i'm from the netherlands

Plastic Screen Protector

After dealing with Halo on my Nexus 6 with glass protectors, I'm not even going to bother with glass for this phone. I have not ordered the phone yet because I was waiting for a good case and a good plastic screen protector. I found the case I wanted (Supcase Unicorn Beetle) and it will be released on the 25th. Does anyone have a really good plastic screen protector, or know where I can find one? All I can find on Amazon are ones with either bad reviews or no reviews at all. I have some time since I won't be ordering the phone until the case comes in. Thanks in advance!

Wondering this as well, especially since things aren't looking too good from reading the "tempered glass" screen protectors thread (at least until more of them are released). Anyone have any good or decent experiences with plastic screen protectors yet?

Seem to be just as good as the ones I always bought from Verizon store. I also cant deal with the glass ones. They either dont fit to the edge of the screen or they pass the edge of the glass screen where the curve starts to drop off and then they chip also.

These are the dry versions which I prefer and never had an issue with bubble or dust (I just lift up the edge/side closes to dust and use an extra long piece of tape to grab the particles). They also have a wet application for the front and rear.

I just got mine in yesterday...don't use the bumper with the screen protector. It'll just goof it all up. I'm just dealing with it until I can get a real case. The screen protector is OK...gets oily from your fingers and smudges like crazy but for that cheap, I'll deal with it until decent tempered glass comes out.

Just got mine today. They fit, but definitely seem like they are not for this phone. Corners are rounded way.differently of a radius and the sensors and camera spots up top seem very generic of a cut.
I already sent an email to the seller on Amazon billing hoping they revise the design.

Yes. Feel is very smooth. Easy to apply. Minimal bubbles that are easy to push out. I've used iLlumishield many times before. Probably top 3 in quality. I'm sure the first run was probably used from a template that was sent to them. If they get an actual phone in hand, the fit will be spot on.

People still use screen protectors.. You do know the only way u can scratch up ur screen or crack it is dropping it on a bunch of small rocks or face first on concrete without a raised bumper case.., only fine grits of rocks and sand scratches gorilla glass.. Yea is no saphire glass but still..

They are so cheap and this way I can ensure I won't get any small surface scratches. It also keeps the screen pristine for when I resell my phone.

all it takes is a bit of sand in your pocket and you will get scratches....gorilla glass isnt all that great, better than standard but i learned my lesson from no screen protector on my samsung phones

Exactly. It barely costs nothing. I have a plastic screen protector and I smacked my phone against the edge of my aluminum Apple keyboard. It damaged the screen protector but my screen is scratch free.
I know that when I sell my LG G3, I can say that the screen is scratch free and in pristine condition because it was protected.

I never used wet. Even though a phone may be waterproof in terms of drops, I don't ever want to squeegee water out from a screen protector only for it to get trapped in the crevice of the screen.
I personally prefer the dry only because it uses static to cling on and stays on. If there is dust or particles underneath, all I have to do is lift up the side closest and take an extra long piece of tape and use it to grab the particles. Repeat this until it is particle free and you have a flawless screen protector.
In the past, the screen protector was sticky and if something got stuck underneath, that was it. It would be hard to remove the particle.

Do not buy "LK brand" tempered glass screen protector

This is the screen protector I bought:

It is by far the worst quality of any glass screen protector I have ever used or seen. The adhesive does not even come close to the outside of the glass, the glass is 1-2mm too small for the phone screen, outdoors you can see spots aligned in rows and columns all over it, and you can see weird vertical streak mark things in the right light.
I realize the spots are common to all glass screen protectors, but never have I seen them so pronounced and visible.

On another note, I hate what Foxcon did to the edges of the phone. It looks like to make the titanium rounded they just hand sanded it into a round shape with course grit sandpaper. It feels terrible and looks all scratched up and nasty. Very low quality for this phone.

How much does the edge of the glass curve on the phone? If that protector is more or less flat out to the edge, is the phone starting the glass curve that far in where the adhesive is showing? That pretty much makes any glass screen protector not built with a curve in it useless if that's the case.

I wondered the same thing.

I hate the heck out of this curved screen craze everyone followed Apple/Samsung on. My favorite screen was on my LG G3 and 6P. Nice and flat with straight edges, screen protectors just blend in nearly invisibly and the feel was good. I feel with these curved screen that even naked, they just don't track as well and overall force you to use it naked or have a screen protector that is obviously on it and can't fit perfectly since they only make curved ones for iPhone or Samsung edges.
And if you do run it naked, the curved edge will scratch guaranteed over time even if the main front doesn't.

I bought the sparin brand glass screen protector from Amazon and it looks nearly identical to this.
Looks like film protectors will be the only option here..

If you apply it absolutely perfectly, it can take a bit of time for it to "settle" as well. Keep some pressure on the edges to see if it can adhere a bit better.
I was afraid of this though as it looks similar to the issue Nokia Lumias had. Blast those stupid curved edges. If I could just get a Nexus 6P 2 with the internals of todays phones I would so totally jump on that.
Luckily going by the ones I Got on Amazon the only review says they fit perfectly, so I guess I'll see in a week.

Maybe it is ever so slightly curved, but to my eyes it looks flat up until a 1-2mm curve at the very edges. It is really hard to get a good picture of it with my other phone because it cant focus so well on something so small and close, so this is the best I could do:

I'm going to be trying out the Ghostguard invisible liquid protector from Liquipel. That is if I decide to keep the Essential over my U11. Either way, I'll let you know how it goes when I receive the Essential next week. And you get a year of "if you break it, we fix it" from Liquipel. It should do very well against scratches (from videos I've watched, even compared to tempered glass), but definitely not cracks or shattered screens if dropped.
However, even with no protection on several of my past devices, I never had a scratch or worse. I take very good care of my phones. And if I decide to keep the Essential, I'm hoping fitbag releases their sleeves for it.

Thats cool. I have read good things about the liquid protectors. What I cannot for the life of me figure out is the difference between the glass protector ones and the liquid protection (like flash flood). They all have the same selling points and water beads up off of all of them. The liquid option seems like a good way to preserve the minimalism of the PH1. I saw a review where someone had the matte black dbrand on the back and it looks outstanding.

I don't think any glass protectors will work since this screen isn't flat. What Happened to the good old days where the screen was just a flat piece of glass that edged up against a bevel without all this curved 2.5D madness

I don't know, but my Nexus 6P has a flat screen. I don't like the curved screen craze.
My PH-1 will probably be going back.

I had minimal issues and expected to have the issue that the OP had. But if you don't want to go to my review to look at the pics here they are attached. You can use the Olive Oil trick to achieve the same results, at your own risk of course.
But I'm diggin it right now and very happy with it after the olive oil, before I was just going to deal with it.
