How to backup apps and data (non-rooted) when installing custom ROM? - OnePlus 7 Pro Questions & Answers

Have just upgraded a 7 Pro from OOS 11 to Paranoid Android 12 and had a rough experience trying to restore apps/data. Getting ready to help a friend do the same for another 7 Pro.
It doesn't seem like Clone Phone can do local backup/restore and I can see some noticeable differences in the backup/restore functionality between what is available on OOS 11 and PA 12. Are there any recommended (non-root and non-TWRP for that matter) options to backup and restore non-system apps and data for this type of ROM upgrade?

[Q] Restoring Custom ROM System Apps

I know that most people say to only restore User Apps on a custom ROM and I understand that. However, is it relatively safe, in general, to restore system apps from a custom ROM on a slightly different version of that same ROM? I assume the answer is that it depends on the changes between those versions, but I'm asking in general.
For instance, if I had a backup of all apps (user and system) for CM 12, would it be OK to restore them all on CM 12.1? Again, I'm asking in general so this is just an example and I'm not asking about the differences between CM 12 and CM 12.1.

Clear cache for all apps?

Sony phones in settings in storage have option to clear cache for all apps. Why is it missing in our phones? Or am i missing something?
Sent from OnePlus 7 Pro, OxygenOS 10.0.3, TWRP 3.3.1-75, Magisk 20.3, EdXposed 0.4.6.1 (build 4513), Modded Play Store 16.5.15, android core.java patched and SafetyNet pass OK
It's a good question. We ought to have an option to clear cache AND data for all or selected apps in a batch mode.
Currently I just use Titanium Backup to do this but shouldn't have to rely on a 3rd-party app. OOS is decked out enough that we should reasonably expect this functionality to already be a part of the OS or baked in in future updates.
Also using Titanium, but would be if in Settings...
i know this is not hte place for this so i may get in to a bit of troubles but does titanium backup backup wifi and restore apps ok for you guys on your op7 pro? i havent been able to restore apps or backup wifi profiles since android 10 and it appears there is no support for titanium or at least they will not respond.

Can't restore app data to gm1913 running crDroid

Ok, I've tried different things, but it seems I'm stuck when trying to restore my app data for certain apps (mostly games) on crDroid 6.11 (Android 10). I'm restoring from an older Android 6 ROM. I would prefer not to root at this point.
I've tried:
ADB backup: I can create backup, but adb is stuck on the 7 Pro at the password prompt when trying to restore
Helium backup: Again, I can create backup on my old phone, and transfer to new phone. But Helium throws an error when trying to restore.
It seems I'm running out of options. I can simply not understand it should be so difficult to back up your app data for a few simple apps (games) and restore them on a new device without root.
I know there are options with root, and maybe I will end up rooting with Magisk just to be able to do this. But I still find it very strange that there is no easy tool to do this - or maybe there is and I don't know it.
Any suggestions are very welcome. Thanks!

Backup/Restore through TWRP 3.5.2 for stock ROM

TWRP 3.5.2 supports backup/restore. Does anyone use this feature?
I plan to upgrade stock ROM from android 10 to android 11 and there are some complains about android 11. It would be nice to know if it is easy to switch between android 10 and android 11 using TWRP.

If you use Xiaomi cloud, calls, sms, mms, call recording will be saved.
You can use Miphone assistant for the same thing (backing up some apps with data, themes, etc., don't back up the launcher elements because of 10 to 11).
For apps, use an apps like Titanium or others.
With Twrp, the backup is not 100% reliable, especially with the switch from Android 10 to 11.

Thanks! That is what I do now. Miflash stock ROM, recover messages from Xiaomi cloud, and restore app/data using Titanium Backup.

How compatible are backed up data files for different GSIs

I have a backup meant for LineageOS 18.1 (Honor 6x phone). I was planning on moving to AOSP 11. Unfortunately, I've hitherto been completely unable to root the device. Can I use a twrp data backup of the former once I install AOSP 11?
