Has anyone used a root app or xposed module to change the DPI? Did you find anything that works well?
I was thinking we could change the DPI to solve the problem of gboard not being split when unfolded, but then I realized that might not work when the phone is folded.
I changed dpi without root in developer settings. Everything runs flawless. GBoard splits automatically in landscape mode when unfolded

What DPI does it need to be set to work?
I am using 492

so you are saying as soon as you unfold the phone gboard splits? right now the only way to get it to split is to onfold and rotate
I have mine already set this way in dev settings as well at 421. will try 492 and see if there is any difference
EDIT - just changed. definitely no difference in gboard unless you rotate which is how it has always been when unfolded. what I did realize though is that you can set the DPI in dev settings for folded and unfolded it seems. playing around with it though I still have not found a value that auto splits the keyboard when unfolded in portrait state
Microsoft Swiftkey has the toggle to turn on split mode and that is fine for unfolded portrait and landscape but unfortunately it then stays in split mode on the folded screen making it unusable in that state.

yep, would be perfect if it wasn't split in unfolded screen
Also if you open the screen and set the DPI for the big screen I just plus 100 dpi on what it is as default its perfect. So there are 2 DPI settings one with screen folded and the other with screen unfolded
What is the default DPI for cover screen? I changed mine by mistake thinking it would change both screen. Then I found out they have different DPI for each display.
Should be 411dpi

Is anyone else having problems with wallpaper on Launcher Pro? Using the default launcher, the wallpaper scales down to the size I set. Launcher Pro keeps it HUGE and cannot be adjusted no matter what the resolution is.
Am I doing something wrong?
I have the same problem, it happens basically with any launcher that is non stock. theres apps that can fix the problem, but seems like a quirk that we're stuck with

So I was having the same problem and figured out what causes it, and a way to generally avoid it.
what seems to be causing it: Allowing home screen rotation. It appears that as soon as you rotate, Launcher pro resizes the wp to that pixelated mess, and will not revert it back once returning to portrait. I've had it happen also while going to the home screen while having the browser in landscape
to prevent: from home screen click menu / preferences / behavior settings / -> and make sure "enable auto rotation" is unchecked. (don't worry you can still rotate in apps by activating the rotation setting in the notification bar, unchecking that box just prevents the home screen rotation)
to fix your current messed up wallpaper: click menu / settings / applications / manage applications / -> click launcher pro / click clear defaults.
this will allow you to activate touchwiz again. So hit the home screen button and select TW to complete that action. after it's done try setting your wp again. Go ahead and reset launcher pro as your default now and your wp should still look good. You should now be able to crop new wp's and have them look fine too.
you shouldnt have to do this again
all set!
That did the trick. Thanks!
I tried that but it didn't work on my evo 3d
there is another work around
open the pic you want to use
rotate your phone to landscape mode
set your wallpaper using the landscape square, not the narrow one. Let it finish.
rotate your phone back to normal
your WP should now not be that pixelated mess
I tried doing a global change down to 480, but the edge screen didn't like the change. I was hoping it would allow me to add more apps to it without requiring me to slide up and down.
I imagine there are settings somewhere that tell the edge screen how "tall" it should be. Anyone try this?
Try looking for it in app settings?
Touchwiz is crashing on me for some reason. What is the default dpi for our note edge?

640.
For now I am adjusting individual apps which is working well. Hopefully we can find a way to change the edge screen too.
I literally just posted this thread before I saw this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-edge/development/mod-build-prop-modifications-t2975681
I made changes in the build.prop file to switch around the dpi which affects the edge screen too. Unfortunately although after the change it looks like the edge screen could fit more onto each screen but the software doesn't allow it.
For example in the primary edge screen you can fit 7 rows of apps before it fills up. After dpi change it looks like you can fit 8 or 9 rows but touchwiz just still makes you scroll after 7 which I found was annoying.
I need nova launcher to come up with something for the edge so that I have full control over the edge panel
Also changing dpi seems to crash video mode and mess with the camera app...
Any fix for edge screen dpi
Hi all, I have an AT&T Samsung Galaxy S6 (920A) that is on CleanROM 1.1 OE2 but partly on OF3 firmware. It is running Android 5.0.2 and rooted. I modified the build.prop file to allow the on screen navigation (software) keys to be displayed, similar to Nexus 5: back, home, and app switcher keys. I would expect Android to readjust the screen resolution for the home screen to accommodate the navigation keys but the keys are just laid on top of the bottom apps area. Also, the camera screen is also not adjusted, such that the soft keys are covering some parts of the cameras' keys. Attached are three screenshots of the home screen where the soft keys aren't adjusted, the camera screen, and while in apps, such as settings, the screen area is adjusted. Anybody run into a solution to fix the home and camera screens to adjust accordingly for the soft keys?
You can change the build prop dpi value and the screen resolution with an app, but you will have to find out what values to put...
My tip is to use an alternative launcher, like Nova, for your home screen since touchwiz doesn't have native navbar support. And you can use an app called "all in one gestures" in which you can enable immersive mode and add a blacklist for apps you don't want to have immersive mode in, I.e. Nova launcher. If the UI glitch in the camera app is a deal breaker (I don't bother that much since its still fully usable) try a different camera app. Hope it helps!
Reflash with stock 5.1.1 ROM via odin.

I tried this method, but unfortunately, as I found out, Samsung is horrible with their Android build where some of their apps (camera for example) depend on DPI values and not scale their apps according to resolution.

Thanks. I believe this was the best workaround proposed somewhere I've read before. I think I'll just live with the fact that my home screen will be invaded by the navigation bar by some margin and my Samsung camera app, well I'll probably use Google's camera app soon.
I just like how Nexus 5 was set up with no home button and now it's growing on me again such that I don't use the touch keys at the bottom of the S6.

That doesn't work with an AT&T branded Samsung Galaxy S6. AT&T so far has released Android 5.0.2.
I love the tablet and am fine with the stock launcher and everything, but I'm having issues setting a good wallpaper.
The one I want to use looks great if I align the top-right corner of it to the top right of the display, both in portrait and landscape mode. However, if I try to set it to that in either mode, it seems to crop the image to fit just that mode and when I rotate the display it keeps the image's new center point and just scales it up to keep the screen filled, cutting off the wrong edges and looking terrible.
Is there any way to fix this? Am I stuck trying to use a 3rd-party launcher if I want to use this wallpaper?
Thanks
For some reason whenever I reboot my device it loads in tablet mode which is really annoying. My widgets all get removed and the display size is very small, along with other home screen changes. Once I change the display size setting the phone recognizes it is not a tablet and goes into phone mode. Does anyone know why this could happen? Phone is rooted with safetynet fix. Wondering if it might be safety net fix since it changes the build.prop settings. However I would have expected others to experience the same issue.
go into dev options and look for a value called smallest width. This stock is set to 411 dp. If yours shows that value, set the display size to the smallest possible, then go back into dev ops and change smallest width to 411 dp again, then go back to screen and font size and set those to largest. mess round with those till ya find what you want.
Cheers Mate!

Thanks for the reply. Mine is set to 485 because I set the display settings to smallest. When I change to 411 it just changes the display setting to default option. When I change back to smallest display option it changes the smallest width back to 485. Not sure how this changes the tablet mode setting when I restart phone.
