Question Update ROM a root - Xiaomi 12

according to https://topjohnwu.github.io/Magisk/ota.html
I wanted to install OTA update on xiaomi12 but no success. In magisk, when restoring images, it does not show restoration complete, but - the default backup does not exist. Please can someone help? Thanks in advance

OTA update with root please help

Hello,
I have received the new R83 incremental, but I cant ota update since I have modified system apps. I am on stock rom, and stock kernel. Just root.
How can I update it since I have modified system apps? Do I need to go back to stock to install all the system apps I deleted or with manual update it will work?
If it does, can anyone show me link of the process?
Thank you!

I think you can flash the 38R OTA update with the modified script that makes the update not check your system files to see if they have been modified. The thread for the file is here. Just download and install through recovery. Not sure if you lose root after, but just reflash supersu if you do. Does anyone else agree?

Transition from SuperSU to Magisk

So I'm currently using Honor 8 FRD-L09432 on B394 build. I have unlocked bootloader and am rooted with SuperSU. I wish to remove SuperSU root and switch to Magisk. From Magisk thread instructions I'm supposed have unrooted device and intact boot image.
When I try to unroot with SuperSU I'm greeted with "Uninstallation failed!" window. As an alternative to unroot I decided to just use Huawei Firmware Finder and download latest(B394) update.zip and extract stock boot.img from that. After successfully managing the extraction I tried to flash the newly extracted boot.img via TWRP. My device fails to boot with said boot.img so I had to restore the back up.
So my question is what am I missing here? Or is there some other alternate way to switch to Magisk without rollbacking to stock packages and having all my data wiped. Thanks for your assistance.
Osmosis' unsupersu script should work to remove it, then reboot, then flash magisk.
Hi,
I have the FRD-L04 with the B389 update. I am currently root with SuperSU, and I would like to change to Magisk. I have been reading some guides and posts but I want to be sure before proceeding. I found this guide for the Pixel and I would like to know the opinion from the experts if this would work for my honor 8. Thanks!

You will need stock boot image, that's pretty much all. So you can try to restore the stock boot image via unroot from SuperSU which is a bad idea and I would highly discourage it. So you either extract the stock boot image for B389 from UPDATE.zip or you restore stock boot image from your own backup if you have it.
After obtaining and flashing stock boot image, flash the Magisk zip from main Magisk thread. I can not verify that latest version works (16.0), I havent tried it. I'm personally on 15.3 and if you really want it I can test 16.0 for you.
After flashing Magisk install Magisk manager which you can obtain again from main Magisk thread. Ofc unistall SuperSU app as well.
You can't brick your device in any way as long as you make a full TWRP backup before attempting any of the above. If you run into any of the errors just restore it and ask for further instructions.
Thanks for the set of instructions, I did as instructed and it worked as a charm! Thanks for everything. I'm in B389 with Magisk now!

Can't update

My device is rooted and i have installed a TWRP recovery, & i want to update it, but always stuck at the recovery mod with ERROR 7!! help plz
This is because you're trying to update without flashing back stock recovery.img of your firmware build, and TWRP isn't able to analyze and confirm the update package as valid before starting the update process.
To update correctly, extract the recovery.img (32MB like) from your update package (probably you'll need to downlaod the update.zip of your actual firmware if you didn't stored a copy) using Huawei Update Extractor program, flash it by ADB in the same way you flashed TWRP and once done, update again. Then you can flash TWRP again.

I take the chance to leave you a guide that i used too, in which is well explained how to correctly update a rooted device and how to grab all the necessary files required for updating. Check it out https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-6x/how-to/guide-ota-update-rootet-h6x-t3684758
Let me know if you solve this!

Avoid installing updates from recovery, possible?

Hi guys, is there any way to "uninstall" a pre-installed system update?? Currently at OS 5.1.11 but idk what happened suddenly it says "system update (OS 9.0.2) is installed, please reboot". So the last thing I want is to reboot, since I WILL lose my root, and afraid that my TWRP version not compatible for Android P. THANKS!
QUESTIONS
1) IF I were to reboot into recovery, make a backup and install that backup, will that help? Will the update be installed once I reboot into recovery or not? IF I am not mistaken, the updates are only applied when you reboot into the system., but I'm not sure now.
2) I already have a backup of my system but that is months ago. Would I be able to make a complete backup of today's sytem without applying the installed update?
3) Any other way to remove the pre-installed system update besides rebooting into recovery to do a factory reset and restore system settings?
4) Do I need to reinstall TWRP and MAGISK before applying the backup/system restore?
Thanks in advanced!

If you dont want to update to pie then flash oos5.1.11 full package through twrp use bluspark twrp
Suggestion: update to pie build

Hi, thanks for the reply.
I think the update WILL be installed after a reboot. And I don't want that, which is why I am avoiding any sort of reboot atm.

F15 - Stock image does not exist

Hey I am on KB2003.F13 and wanted to upgrade to F15.
When I start the process by uninstalling Magisk before I download the update and then would re-install Magisk to the inactive slot to retain root I get the errror message "Stock image does not exist".
I'm imagining this is because I did not patch the stock image myself. After MSM-ing back to OOS11 and updating to OOS13 I rooted by flashing a F13 image that I found on these forums that was already patched.
What can I do? Thanks in advance

I never add problems updating my 8T while it was rooted. I never restored the stock image before installing the update, I would just install to inactive slot before rebooting when the update finished.
Anyway, if you want to be super safe you could extract the stock boot.img from the full update package of your current version and flash it (it would be the same as restoring the stock image with Magisk). Btw I suggest you never flash images patched by others to avoid this exact problem. You can still use images from others if you want, just boot them (fastboot boot boot.img) instead of flashing them and then do a direct install with Magisk.

So if I booted the F13 image I previously used and then did a direct install, Magisk would then make that backup IMG file and then I can proceed with the update to F15?
Or can I not boot the F13 image and do a direct install if I've already flashed it?

I think that Magisk backups the currently flashed boot image, so if you just boot the stock image it would backup the patched image.
