I downloaded solid ICS theme via tweaktools and now I see that I have google talk, at least I think it came with the theme because I hadn't seen it before that . Anyways, the video works fine but the user on the other end can't hear me. The mic on my charge appears not to pick up sound when using google talk. I tried calling the same user via my desktop and they were able to hear me on their end. I have toggled the mic off and on and it makes no difference. Any ideas?
That function has never worked on the charge...
Sorry bro...

That's too bad. I was thinking I could yell at my kids when I was at work in a more personal way than just over the phone. You know the whole, look me in the eyes when I'm talking to you thing.
You still can..
Your kids will just think there getting really good at tuning you out..
Lol

They've already mastered that. It's amazing how quick it happens.
As a workaround, Google+ Hangouts apparently work, though I haven't personally tried them.
Skype and ooVoo work as well.
Still Charged Up
How to make mic work now?
How to make mic work now Sir?
thanks
I don't like Skype or other app

- Device / OS: Samsung Droid Charge/2.3.6
- Version of G+: Build Version: 3.1.1.32879387
- Are you using a custom ROM on your device?: No, completely stock and have tried uninstalling and reinstalling G+ app.
- Have you tried hangouts with and without headphones plugged in?: Yes, and also with Bluetooth device connected. (Jawbone Era, Jawbone Icon, Jawbone Icon HD, plantroinics, and even a cheap Jabra) Yes, I own that many Bluetooth devices. LOL
- Does this happen for all hangouts? Yes
- Can you remember any other information relative to when the issue began, such as an OTA or after a specific G+ update?: No, has never worked with any version I have tried since I started using it, but am not sure what version that was, but since i started using it probably has went through 5 updates for G+. Currently on the latest version stated above. As far as OTA updates it didn't work before the last one either on SCH-I510.FP1 now on FP5. Also did not work when I had it root stock with no custom ROM.
- If you try to video chat in the Android Talk app, do you have the same issue?: In Talk there is no option to start a video chat and it does not show the Video icon on contacts.
This worked for me on a droid charge don't know if it will help you or not, but read below.
Holly crap I got it to work. I have used this version before and it did not work, but that was when i was on FP1. I am on FP5 now using GooglePlus_2.3.1.242969.apk and it worked. Now i just have to deal with seeing it asking me to update all the time, but i can block it or just deal with it. At least it works! 2.1.1 version did not have the video icon to even start the hangout so i uninstalled it and downloaded GooglePlus_2.3.1.242969.apk and it worked. Just click messenger type them a message and this in top right corner you will see a video icon. Once you click it it will ask if you want to start a hangout. Hope this helps some people to get it working till the newer versions get fixed.

Yeah g+ hangouts always worked on this phone. Gtalk video chat is different but I think google is phasing that out in favor of hangouts.

WTF?
Hello!
For ages, I held on to the old version of Facebook's messenger in order to retain the SMS chat head functionality. However, this was always a finicky feature as it would disappear depending on the model of phone and OS version detected.
When I loaded the APK onto my newly 4.4-flashed phone (CM11 based), it no longer gave the option to use SMS. With the advent of the default SMS app system in 4.4, I worry that the app wouldn't work at all, even if I fooled it into revealing the option to toggle SMS on.
Are there suggestions? If I modified the contents of the manifest to work with my phone and android version, would the archaic SMS handling system even work under 4.4?
Cheers, all
Sad, four-day bump.
Bump....please help. I need FB SMS on KitKat.
I have been searching for this as well.. Hope someone can let us know how to get this to work. Thanks!
bump.. same problem here
Biggest of bumps. I've been at this for quite a long time, but still no info. The lat stable rom for my GT-i9300 can only be KitKat based. Though I don't think that Lollipop would be any different regarding this issue. And I reeeeally don't want to get back to JellyBean. Anyone found out anything?
Anyone who received the Samsung Gear S3 pair it with any Iphone yet? Curious about your thoughts and if you still find the watch useful with its limited functionality.
Thanks,
Dan
I'm not sure but I think Samsung didn't say it was compatible with iPhones.

Doesn't work with iPhone.
Samsung did a beta test on iPhone, I don't know what happened after that or when they will release the final app for iPhone. Hopefully it will be soon for those that have one.

I am curious too. Would love to hear some S3 owners talk about what works (or doesn't work) on the watch when its not paired to a phone.

I've coupled a Gear S3 with the beta version of the GearManager on iPhone SE. It worked much more than with the Gear S2. The system from the S3 obviously is much more sophisticated and tuned to the GearManager. So if an official version appears the combination Gear S3 with the iPhone obviously will be quite powerful.
Unfortunately no one can say when Samsung finally released an official version of GearManager.
Hello,
I'm in the same case than the author.
I have actually an iPhone 6S which I don't want to resell because I like it and it is not old enough to change for another.
Nevertheless, i'm really interesting by buying the Samsung Gear S3 since i'm looking for a watch with a good design (which doesn't look like a "gadget" as it the case for the Apple Watch).
I want to know if it is possible to pair the iPhone 6S with the Samsung Gear S3. I'm aware of the beta of Gear Manager for iPhone but i don't know which fonctions i will lose with this app, which function I can use and if it is still worth to buy this watch which cost 400$ (We can currently have it for 320€ in France).
I want it in order to receive SMS and phone call, be able to answer phone call and mb SMS too (it is not a big fault if i can't answer SMS). I also want to use the GPS functionality but I don't know if it is even possible with an iPhone pairing. Same for spotify, messenger notifications, chronometer.
Moreover, I didn't find a lot of information about the sport fonctionnality. They are talking about running but i'm doing workout 3 times per week and I wanted to follow/track my training with the watch if it is possible.
To sum up, that is my questions :
1- Which important fonctionnality should I don't be able to access with iPhone pairing ?
2- Which important fonctionnality should I be able to use with iPhone pairing ?
3- Is it possible to receive SMS ? To answer it ? Same question with phone calls.
4- Will I be able to use GPS fonctionnality ? Spotify fonctionnality ? Messenger ? Chronometer ?
5- Can I track my workout with the sport fonctionnality ?
6- Is it worth to buy it for an iPhone ?
Thanks,
Regards,
Ketaz
It is hard to say what funtionality will be finally available with pair Samsung watch - iPhone, as we have currently only beta Gear manager for iOS. Notifications and S-Health are working. There is access to the Samsung Store, but currently only free applications are available. I think that there will be no possibility to answer sms or calls, because iOS do not allow such actions from 3rd party apps via Bluetooth. But from the other side if Samsung will allow to install standalone apps directly on watch, it would be some oportunity if only pairing with iOS will not block it. There is no ETA of final Gear Manager for iOS, so we have a lot of speculations and nothing is confirmed.

Thanks for the answers.
Well actually it is possible to answer calls with every bluetooth accessories so it seems weird to not be able to do it with the samsung gear.
It's already a good thing that we can have notifications...
Should i be able to track my workout with S Health ?
Which free applications are available ?
@Ketaz: 1. to 5.: I think most will work and your desired functions are largely fulfilled.
At 6.: When will appear the official GearManager: then in any case YES!

Do you have a source please ? :victory:
Source (and my/our hope) is the last update info in TestFlight (dev.tool for GearManager iOS):
" Samsung Gear S 1.6.16111702 (1.6.16111702) for iOS is ready to test
What To Test:
- General bug fixing - Fix a crash when login to the Samsung account from Samsung App Store Known Issue: - At the menu Home -> Samsung App Store, back button not working to come back to the GM Home. This issue should be fixed by 2nd December (12/02)."

Nice ! Do you use it with an iPhone ?
If yes, can you try it with spotify please ? If it's working I buy it 100% sure
Spotify on my iPhone I can already control with Gear S2
OK you convinced me thank for the answers
... but I can not tell if the special spotify-app works on the Gear S2 with an iPhone. You can only control (next-back-stop) the music, which is currently running on the iPhone.
Hey all, I use Total Recall app exclusively on Android phones and so far, every single phone I've had from low, to mid-range, to flagships, all worked fine... that is until I got this phone. Another reason I don't use it for my main line. I've tried all the different options with the exception of the root option since root isn't currently attainable (easily) but none worked. Anyone have any other call recorder app suggestions that they've used and actually works? I don't plan on wasting my time trying other apps since root appears to be coming in the near future (hopefully). However, if anyone else has been using a call recorder app that works, I don't mind trying that particular app. TIA!
See this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/essential-phone/help/recording-phone-calls-t3663319/page2
Total Recall has not yet been updated with support for the Essential Phone, but it should be coming shortly. That's my understanding from the devs at Killer Mobile. In the meantime, Skvalex's Call Recorder has been working just fine for me.
Edited to add: Here's a link to the Skvalex call recorder on the Play store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.skvalex.cr

Wow this app works great and one time charge. Probably going to switch over to this app. Thanks for the rec!
FWIW, Total Recall was just updated today to version 2.0.61, with a new recording method called "Native X". I have tested and can confirm that this new method successfully captures both sides of a call, loud and clear.
Thanks for the FYI. My sub express next year so I'll test it out.
Hi, because of some stupid privacy law in europe we are not allowed to record OUR calls (WTF is that, its MY call, why not if I do not do anything wrong with it).
I use this function A LOT, because I tend to forget things, do not have at handy a pencil or something, so I simply record the call when needed, and this has been of GREAT help.
Now I ordered the Galaxy Fold 2, because of its great fold functionality (I use phone for business) but I forgot to check before ordering, if this call recording "hack" is available for this model or not.
I had Oneplus and Xiaomi, and with both, with a hack, is possible to get the (official) call recording work in Europe, now I hope I did not do a terrible mistake in buying the Fold 2 if this possibility is not there.
Thanks

Samsung OneUI always had Call Recording integrated, however, it's disabled for EU and other regions.
You can re-enable it with Root.
You have to replace the file /system/omc/[XXX]/cscfeature.xml because it's a cryptic placeholder file.
You will have to replace "XXX" in the folder path with your country-code. For me Germany was DBT.
You create a new cscfeature.xml in Text editor with the following content:
Code:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?>
<SamsungMobileFeauture>
<FeatureSet>
<CscFeature_VoiceCall_ConfigRecording>RecordingAllowed</CscFeature_VoiceCall_ConfigRecording>
<CscFeature_Camera_ShutterSoundMenu>true</CscFeature_Camera_ShutterSoundMenu>
</FeatureSet>
</SamsungMobileFeauture>
Like I said, you put that file into /system/omc/[XXX]/ and you have Call Recording Settings in Samsung's Phone-App.
You can also do research about cscfeature.xml for yourself, it's widely known for customisations. You can also allow disabling Shuttersound for Camera-App etc.

With rooting you can enable this.
But you PERMANENTLY disable Samsung Pass, Google Pay, Samsung Health and multitude of other important features. 3rd party / banking apps will nag you (and the next owner) about the rooted phone.
You can record calls on unrooted phone with a 3rd party app, there are plenty (I'm using the one from Lucky Mobile Apps).
You can disable camera shutter sound by bixby a routine (app launched - camera, then "do not disturb" mode on).

Samsung Pass & Samsung Pay yes forever. Samsung Health too, but can be reinstated with a build.prop mod.
If bootloader is unlocked, but not rooted, Google Pay & other apps (like Netflix) wouldn't work, due to Google SafetyNet showing the status "Fail".
But if you root the phone with Magisk & enable MagiskHide (or the new Zygisk), you can spoof Google SafetyNet-Status, and all apps work again, because they don't know the phone's been unlocked & rooted.
This is how I use my phone. Magisk spoofing SafetyNet.
There are also Custom ROMs that have Passing SafetyNet out-of-the-box, so no Magisk Root needed in those cases.
