[Q] Google Talk mic doesn't work - Verizon Droid Charge

I downloaded solid ICS theme via tweaktools and now I see that I have google talk, at least I think it came with the theme because I hadn't seen it before that . Anyways, the video works fine but the user on the other end can't hear me. The mic on my charge appears not to pick up sound when using google talk. I tried calling the same user via my desktop and they were able to hear me on their end. I have toggled the mic off and on and it makes no difference. Any ideas?

That function has never worked on the charge...
Sorry bro...
SENT FROM THE DOG POUND

That's too bad. I was thinking I could yell at my kids when I was at work in a more personal way than just over the phone. You know the whole, look me in the eyes when I'm talking to you thing.

You still can..
Your kids will just think there getting really good at tuning you out..
Lol
SENT FROM THE DOG POUND

They've already mastered that. It's amazing how quick it happens.

As a workaround, Google+ Hangouts apparently work, though I haven't personally tried them.

Skype and ooVoo work as well.
Still Charged Up

How to make mic work now?
How to make mic work now Sir?
thanks
I don't like Skype or other app

- Device / OS: Samsung Droid Charge/2.3.6
- Version of G+: Build Version: 3.1.1.32879387
- Are you using a custom ROM on your device?: No, completely stock and have tried uninstalling and reinstalling G+ app.
- Have you tried hangouts with and without headphones plugged in?: Yes, and also with Bluetooth device connected. (Jawbone Era, Jawbone Icon, Jawbone Icon HD, plantroinics, and even a cheap Jabra) Yes, I own that many Bluetooth devices. LOL
- Does this happen for all hangouts? Yes
- Can you remember any other information relative to when the issue began, such as an OTA or after a specific G+ update?: No, has never worked with any version I have tried since I started using it, but am not sure what version that was, but since i started using it probably has went through 5 updates for G+. Currently on the latest version stated above. As far as OTA updates it didn't work before the last one either on SCH-I510.FP1 now on FP5. Also did not work when I had it root stock with no custom ROM.
- If you try to video chat in the Android Talk app, do you have the same issue?: In Talk there is no option to start a video chat and it does not show the Video icon on contacts.
This worked for me on a droid charge don't know if it will help you or not, but read below.
Holly crap I got it to work. I have used this version before and it did not work, but that was when i was on FP1. I am on FP5 now using GooglePlus_2.3.1.242969.apk and it worked. Now i just have to deal with seeing it asking me to update all the time, but i can block it or just deal with it. At least it works! 2.1.1 version did not have the video icon to even start the hangout so i uninstalled it and downloaded GooglePlus_2.3.1.242969.apk and it worked. Just click messenger type them a message and this in top right corner you will see a video icon. Once you click it it will ask if you want to start a hangout. Hope this helps some people to get it working till the newer versions get fixed.

Yeah g+ hangouts always worked on this phone. Gtalk video chat is different but I think google is phasing that out in favor of hangouts.

Apps back in the market?

I dont know what going on but a bunch of apps are showing up in the market that were not there. Some background, Im using the unofficial MoDaCo 1.2 with a modified build prop. updated with MR info. Just checked the market and bust-a-move and Pic Say Pro are now back the market.
Anyone else having apps show up in the market?
That's a negative good buddy. Still no sign of SU File Manager 3.0.6. Yep I paid for it and it's gone along with a few of the TTS engines I paid for.
Not there yet for me.
eBuddy's not back on either
That's because the developers probably turned off copy-protection on the app but the issue hasn't been fixed.
just upgraded to modaco 1.2...and yes, i was missing a paid app (droidlive), but it has now reappeared.
also, for anyone interested, playing media via bluetooth speakers works perfectly on this ROM
Yea he did it by putting the old props file back in so it has the phone identify to the market that it's still version 1.26. I had mentioned in a few threads that I could add that to fresh rom if needed but wanted to see if Google/Sprint would fix the issue rather than tricking it in to something it wasn't. Although I've had multiple reports from people using Fresh that the apps were showing up for them even without a modified props.
I'm not sure yet. But maybe I'll put a modified one in mine also. I don't see how it could possibly affect it, but I wonder if that is some how related to the bluetooth speakers too? I'll check it out.

To clarify, does it initially open with the front camera so that you can use gtalk video, or does it open with the back camera so you can't use the gtalk video chat feature? Thanks!

Before you install that version of gapps read the last part of this. Bottom line is 0503 gapps is not compatible with Tegra devices. http://goo-inside.me/gapps/
Not working...help?
Hey guys. I installed the latest gapps install as posted above, but google talk seems to not be any different. No video icon is displayed for contacts that I know have video capability and the Settings menu doesn't reflect having any video related options. I have a friend who owns a Nexus S with stock Gingerbread and can use google talk + vid. I also have a separate google account with a web cam. In both scenarios, I can see the other person and we can hear each other fine, but the recipient can't see me. I can see myself in the self-viewer window, so that must mean the video data isn't being sent right. Any ideas?
I'm using Cyanogenmod 7.1.0 RC1 Experimental ROM on a MyTouch 4g (HTC Glacier).
EDIT: NVM. I installed 20110613. I automatically went with the latest. Either my phone isn't supported for one reason or another or the gtalk + video isn't included in the latest gapps package. Am I missing something/confused here?
The newb needs to update his post. GTalk works, but video is not supported.

did ya read the qualifier on that page...."but does not include the new Google Talk with video chat due to there being no compatible library available for non-ARM7 and non-neon board devices, from Google or another OEM. This package should work on all 2.3.4 ROMs, and has the latest Android Market update in it, which includes in-app purchase support."
Not sure if thats the answer you're looking for.....
Now that Moto Atrix 4g finally has 2.3.4 (first Tegra 2 phone) maybe we can get a hold of GTalk 2.3.4 w/ Video chat support
Link is broken
You need 20110603 GAPPS and then flash a fix. Its in the Apps thread.
MIUI has it working out of the box btw. Tested it before I left this morning.

What sort of issues are you having, and what ROM are you using? I had some issues with bluetooth and tts with CM7. I've switched over to EB 2.3.3, and all is working well.
Make sure you have everything you need installed.
Go to settings/voice input & output/text-to-speech settings/
If "Install voice data" isn't grayed out, click on that...it will take you to the market to download the voice engine.
I haven't noticed any problems with my tts, running my current ROM, but I also don't use Pico. I use Svox. It cost around $2-3 for the voice download, but it's much nicer than Pico.
Good Luck.
I'm running stock GB 2.3.3
I was hoping it would read text as they came in similar to the new WP7 Mango update but apparently the framework doesn't support that yet.
It takes me to the market, i download the application but then it uninstalls itself and shows that i have never downloaded the application before. I might install Faux123 rom and see if i can get it to work.

What app are you trying to d/l? I've never really tested out text message readers. I know Handcent will read the text, but IDK if you can set it to read as they come in.
I did test out Vlingo way back, and I must say...it was pretty good. I just don't like that it requires data usage (I'm on a limited data plan). But, for reading texts, Vlingo was pretty awesome. It even understood things like LOL (rather than say L-O-L, it would read it as "laughing out loud"). It even translated WTF, which of course made me laugh like a 12yr old kid.
I'm not downloading any. I was hoping the stock messaging application would do this as i kind of like the layout but sucks as far as security is concerned but that is an android thing.
I'll give the Vlingo a try and see if it works.
Thanks for the help.

[MOD] Enable Call Recorder Functionality on ROMS Besides Sky ICS 2.3.5

ENABLE CallRecorder API RECORDING FUNCTIONALITY ON ROMS BESIDES SKY ICS 2.3.5(AND ICS LEAKS)
This thread is for those of us who wish to have the ability to use CallRecorder, but would rather not use seanzscreams' Sky ICS 2.3.5, a Roger's UXJK7-based ROM, or an ICS leak. If you're running Sky ICS 2.3.5 or an ICS leak, this thread shouldn't concern you as these ROMs have this functionality built in. If you're using a Roger's-based ROM, this probably doesn't apply to you either. The bottom line: If CallRecorder works for you, that's terrific. You can go find a cure for cancer, or pop that giant zit on your back that's growing a goatee. Either way, I don't care. But please, stop wasting everyone's time with your false-positive statements saying that CallRecorder works for everybody. IT DOESN'T WORK FOR EVERYBODY. CAPISCE?
I've been having select individuals test this out for a short time now, and it seems to work rather well on a number of different ROMs. So far, it's been reported to me that this works on Romracer's 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, and faux's 2.3.6 kernels, as well as AlienROM and NexusMOD 2.x-4.x. I'm sure it works on others as well, so give it a shot and post your experiences for everyone's benefit.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ok, so basically there's a reason why all the different call recorder apps you've already tried aren't working (Total Recall, newer versions of Call Recorder). You can thank AT&T for this, plainly and simply. Their Stalinist codemonkeys sucked this capability out of your device. So to remedy this, what we have here are some modified libaudio libraries and an app called CallRecorder. These modified libaudio files will remove the Goebbels garbage that AT&T left behind and allow CallRecorder to record 2-way conversations directly from the Android API (not the speakerphone), and, as far as I know, without beeps.
Standard Disclaimer: I won't take responsibility for anything that might go wrong. I seriously suggest that you do a nandroid backup in CWM before starting this procedure. And, in the likely event that this does work for you, just hit the thanks button on your way outta town. Thank you..
First, you need to be rooted with ClockWorkMod Recovery already flashed. If you are, proceed. If not, there are threads in the Development section that will help you accomplish this. These directions assume that you have a basic operational understanding of ClockWorkMod Recovery. With that being said, here's what you need to do.
1. Do a nandroid backup in CWM. JUST DO IT.
2. Download "call_rec_libs_skyrocket_2.3.5.zip" and "CallRecorder_v.1.2.2_trial.zip" below.
3. Flash "call_rec_libs_skyrocket_2.3.5.zip" in CWM.
4. "Wipe cache partition" and "Wipe dalvik cache" in CWM.
5. Reboot and make sure you have "Unknown Sources" checked in Settings-->Applications. Then extract "CallRecorder_v.1.2.2_trial.apk" from "CallRecorder_v.1.2.2_trial.zip", copy it onto your phone and install it. Once the installation is complete, you can un-check "Unknown Sources" if you wish maintain the security of your phone in that way.
6. Open CallRecorder, then hit the menu touch key (lower left corner, next to home), and then go to Preferences.
7. Change the "Record calls from" option from "Kernel with 2-way call recording patch" to "Standard Android API"
8. Customize any other settings if you wish, and then call your mom (or voicemail ) to test the 2-way recording functionality.
9. Complete the call, then open CallRecorder. You should see the recorded call on the screen. Touch it to play back the call. To your amazement, you should hear both sides of the conversation.
10. Live long and prosper..
Thanks goes out to noodles2224, who lent me his updated copy of CallRecorder for tesing purposes (which I have now purchased from the Market). Credit for the libaudio files goes to seanzscreams (as far as I know, I have no idea where he got them from), and skvalex for CallRecorder. All I did was put 2 and 2 together and throw the libaudio files into a CWM flashable zip.
CallRecorder is an app that's found on Android Market, and the version that I've attached is a trial only. Support the developer (skvalex) by purchasing the full version from the Market here ($5). I'm sure skvalex spent A LOT of time creating this app, so show this Russian bad-ass that you appreciate his work and help him justify all that time spent. If you do buy it from the Market, be sure to uninstall the trial version beforehand.
On a side note, FUGG YOU AT&T. I know you troll these walls.. I don't like being controlled. Leave your tyrannical codemonkey bulls)-(|t north of the 38th Parallel, where it belongs.
Bump. Many thanks. Been looking for these.

Does this work on a stock odexed 2.3.6 ROM? It says it works on one of the 2.3.6 kernals, but that's different than stock.
Thanks for this MOD. ANything that puts the phone the way it should be (without AT&Ts BS) is a step in the right direction.
nice mod, should help a lot of people. Call recording is always fun.
But honestly, please leave the political comments out of your post... really. I have no problem with your dislike of communists, but there's no need to dictate that here.
PS....
Call recorder from market works on stock unrooted SR. Option for kernel selected in settings or Android API.

I'll bet you a shiny quarter that you either 1) have an SGH-i727R or 2) you're using a UXKJ7-based ROM.
The Roger's base doesn't appear to suffer from the same "deficiency" as the UCKJ2 base. I guess I should have mentioned that..
Either way, I'm glad it works for you. However, not everyone is having the same good fortune..

I admit, not very PC language, even though I had no intention of offending anyone. I'll try to take it down a notch in the future. For the record, I don't dislike communists. I have Chinese friends, and I'm certain there's many nice people whom I'll never meet living in North Korea. It's more-so the establishment of despotism and any oppressive deviation thereof that I don't particularly care for.

Odexed shouldn't make any difference. The libraries have no .odex counterpart, and you can still install deodexed .apks on an odexed ROM. Make a nandroid backup, and give it whack.

A "thanks" will have to suffice. haha
Yep, it's true. The very first thing I did was purchase the Market version. After ten minutes of frantically experimenting will all the program options and still no joy, I hit the refund button. Then I embarked on this "crusade"..
The second I dropped those libaudio libraries in there, *p00f!* It magically started working..
I will concede that when I first started looking, I found an old, deprecated alpha version of CallRecorder that, for some strange reason did work half-assedly. Nothing newer than that did, though.
You have me thinking now....
My veraon was from the market but I am rooted and rom'd. I did a data and apk restore to my brothers phone. Knowing it can modify anything if it isn't rooted I wonder now why it worked. My bud just got the SR and the market one didn't work but he removed and installed my backup and it did. He's stock no root also. Now I'm just confused about it lol.

You're very welcome. I started recording all my calls when I got my Nokia N95 4 years ago, and I have no intention of stopping any time soon..
I even have SIPDroid recording all of my Google Voice calls now. CallRecorder's great and all, but the compressed 64 kilobit audio of a VOIP call makes these sound RIDICULOUS.
Now if I could only figure out how to get the DTMF tones to work flawlessly.....
Please confirm, Can I use it on my Galaxy S with CodeNameAndroid 1.4.0 ROM ? Thanks!
This is great! Anyone had luck with Total Recall yet?
I'm still using a backup of the call recorder from skyics rom. Worked on the note, captivate, several skyrockets, an aria and a bunch of other devices also. I've just restored to each phone from my tibu backup and no probably at all on any of them.

I intalled this a couple of days ago and here is my review...
As always FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS IN THE OP TO THE LETTER!
Here are a couple of things that may be of interest. Of course, this is how it works on my phone...how it works on yours may differ. I am using the ALien 6 ROM (and loving it!).
1. The trial version of CallRecorder included in the OP only let me open it one time before it said the trial was up. This wasn't a huge problem for me because I was planning on buying the full version anyway to support the DEV and get the fully functional version. I would have liked to do some testing before the purchase, but everything worked out good anyway. The App's Dev claims there is a place here on XDA that you can get the trial, so maybe it will give you more time than the version in the OP does. It IS worth the purchase though. And as stated, make sure you delete the trial version before installing the full (purchased) version.
2. On my phone, the recorder works great. It even records both sides of the conversation while using bluetooth. Several people in the Google Play page claim the person on the other end of the line cannot be heard. In my case, there is a slight drop in volume from the original conversation to the recorded version, but it is not huge. I could clearly hear both sides of the recorded converstation without touching the volume control...but there is a slight difference.
3. The app works great. There is an option to set it to vibrate once recording starts and stops but I haven't used it. There is an icon that stays on the top notification area of the screen while the app is active. It changes color while a conversation is recorded. SO, basically, it isn't even noticed while it is doing its thing. There isn't a way to easily turn the app off once it is activated. It runs as a service on the phone until the service is physically stopped (through settings) but it is not a big deal. There is no noticible battery usage or anything else when it is active and you never know when a call comes in that you want to record so its a good thing it runs as a service. The phone deep sleeps just fine with it running. A toggle would be nice...maybe with the ability to pause and resume recording at choice, but I didn't notice any such feature. However, there are several configurable points within the app's settings that I haven't tried that seem to allow exceptions and rules for which calls are recorded and how they are recorded. There seems to be alot of such options.
4. The recorded quality of the call is great (even with the before mentioned volume difference). You can choose between several formats for the call to be saved in and you can chose where the calls are saved to. Remeber, the app records the call as you hear it. This means if you are in a bad connection area where words are droped or slurred or where there is a lot of static that the recording will reflect it. Its not the apps fault, it is the connections fault.
5. Someone on the Google Play site made a comment about being able to add notes to recordings...well, guess what, you can! If you long touch the redording, a menu of options appears. Some of them are "delete" "move", and yes "add note" as well as many others.
To sum it up, this works great! If anything happens or if I think of anything else that someone else might want to know about it I will post it here. Enjoy!

Google Hangouts 2.0.012 KITKAT version with SMS working on Gingerbread 2.3.3

Hi Folks
Feeling too happy to report that even GB users can get a glimpse of what Hangout 2.0 performs on android 4.4 KITKAT!!
First of all let me announce the device I've tested it on. Mine is a Dell Streak running GB 2.3.3 Traveller's DSC ROM.
How I did it:
1. I have my phone rooted
2. Renamed existing hangout apk so that if in case i need a backup. Mine was in /data/app folder
3. Moved and renamed attached hangouts 2 apk as "com.google.android.talk-2.apk" (without quotes) - don't know if this a useless step?
4. changed permission of the renamed apk to rw-r--r--
5. Cleared dalvik cache
6. Opened the app and enabled SMS on the prompt and allowed it to collect all existing SMS messages
7. Voila! everythings works so far.
Features:
1. SMS integration
2. More fluid (in my opinion)
3. Online/offline notifier
4. Still exploring the differences
5. Will check if this can be integrated into the ROM itself or not by getting rid of MMS.apk
Need your feedbacks and press thanks if it works for you too. :victory:

Came to know that video chat in hangout wasn't working with only the steps above. to fix
1. Download the libvideochat_jni.so
2. Move to system/lib
3. Change permission to rw-r--r--
4. Try video calling. Should work now!
5. Let me know
*NEW ADDITION*
HOLO themed black version (via- makers of Ultima ROM) of the same 2.0.012 version here
IMP: Please do NOT update hangout or else you will lose SMS functionality.
Successful, tha nks
This worked just fine on my Samsung Proclaim with 2.3.4. I had just been trying to sideload the new 2.0 yesterday, and it wouldn't work and I was afraid I might be getting screwed here in the near future. I use google voice extensively, and with the recent announcement that google would be dropping xmpp support for voice, I can tell that it a sign of much greater hangouts/talk integration and I'm a little concerned that my numerous pieces of older hardware are going to be left out in the dust. So, I had tried to sideload the new one yesterday, and it wouldn't work, but following your prescribed steps, it's working just fine now.

3. Moved and renamed attached hangouts 2 apk as "com.google.android.talk-2.apk" (without quotes) - don't know if this a useless step?

This step shouldn't be necessary if embedding it in /system. Hangouts.apk works just as well. Like I mentioned in my ROM thread, I'll have to try this out. If I like the change, then I'll update Traveller DSC.
Have you attempted this with any of the other KitKat apps?
Works for me by just installing it and not pushing it as a system app. Android 2.3.7

How about video calling? Does it work without pushing the .lib file?

What about the gallery app? Does it give you the parsing error?

If you don't have to add that file, you might want to check to see if your ROM already includes it.
On a side note, the KitKat version of Hangouts is apparently available on the Play Store, but only for ICS and up.

The newest one released yesterday will install on Gingerbread phones. However, SMS has been removed for folks below 4.0. The previous version pulled from the Nexus 5 did put Hangouts SMS on Gingerbread.
One thing the portal article doesn't mention is that Google does version checking on its files. If the API version isn't sufficient what is downloaded is an older version that would work at the given API version. Case in point is Gmail. The current version is 4.6, as my ICS tablet will attest. However on a Gingerbread device, a freshly delivered version from the Play Store will be version 2.3.6.
In the case of Hangouts, the version being downloaded to Gingerbread devices is version 1.1 build 12 or something similar. Only ICS and up will get Hangouts 2.0. So to summarize, it's not that certain features are being disabled (as this thread can attest to) it's that Google is sending an older version of the app to the device.

It's kind of silly really, since the 2.0 version works fine on my Gingerbread ROM. Sending texts, receiving texts, pictures, video etc. Even the holo style settings menus work. Nothing appears badly broken, but from time to time it might force close.
The API support is within the APK, because otherwise it wouldn't allow you to install it. So if google strip that away then they're doing it simply to get people to update to a newer version of Android.
The file here is 2.0.012 (884159-30). The version Play Store will install is 1.2.018 (849105-30).
In one respect it isn't all that silly. Gingerbread is a few years old now and Google wants to focus on Android 4.x. I actually can understand that. What I would like to see, but never will, is Dell going back and making a KitKat ROM for the Streak, especially knowing KitKat will work on the Streak.
I can understand that they'd like people to upgrade, but blocking a feature for no good reason is silly. The 2.0 version clearly works. Yes theres the force close that happens 2% of the time, but that's going to be a bug in the code and not an API issue, because if it were API related it wouldn't even run or it'd force close every single time.
Of course I'm due for an upgrade anyway, and I probably will soon, but it still would of been nice to see google officially support the 2.0 version on Gingerbread.
Hey it works bt always show the number.... I mean showing the number insted showing the name which I save in my phone or sim card

Yes, that is a known issue even for Nexus 5 owners. An application bug probably to be fixed in next few versions. For now few people have found changing their contacts to international format helpful (like for Indian nos changing it from 022xxxxxxxx to +9122xxxxxxxx). It didn't work for many but there is no harm in trying for now. Do make sure to force sync contacts and then switch off your phone and switch back on.
Let us know if it helps!

Hey man, can you see if the latest Hangouts update with messaging will work on Gingerbread? I'm certain it won't, but maybe you can give it a shot again.
I checked all later versions but those don't work with SMS support. May be @theos0o can help us by enabling SMS support for all devices as he did for FB messenger.

Thanks for at least checking. I'm sure many of us appreciate it.
