[MOD] Enable Call Recorder Functionality on ROMS Besides Sky ICS 2.3.5 - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

ENABLE CallRecorder API RECORDING FUNCTIONALITY ON ROMS BESIDES SKY ICS 2.3.5(AND ICS LEAKS)
This thread is for those of us who wish to have the ability to use CallRecorder, but would rather not use seanzscreams' Sky ICS 2.3.5, a Roger's UXJK7-based ROM, or an ICS leak. If you're running Sky ICS 2.3.5 or an ICS leak, this thread shouldn't concern you as these ROMs have this functionality built in. If you're using a Roger's-based ROM, this probably doesn't apply to you either. The bottom line: If CallRecorder works for you, that's terrific. You can go find a cure for cancer, or pop that giant zit on your back that's growing a goatee. Either way, I don't care. But please, stop wasting everyone's time with your false-positive statements saying that CallRecorder works for everybody. IT DOESN'T WORK FOR EVERYBODY. CAPISCE?
I've been having select individuals test this out for a short time now, and it seems to work rather well on a number of different ROMs. So far, it's been reported to me that this works on Romracer's 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, and faux's 2.3.6 kernels, as well as AlienROM and NexusMOD 2.x-4.x. I'm sure it works on others as well, so give it a shot and post your experiences for everyone's benefit.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ok, so basically there's a reason why all the different call recorder apps you've already tried aren't working (Total Recall, newer versions of Call Recorder). You can thank AT&T for this, plainly and simply. Their Stalinist codemonkeys sucked this capability out of your device. So to remedy this, what we have here are some modified libaudio libraries and an app called CallRecorder. These modified libaudio files will remove the Goebbels garbage that AT&T left behind and allow CallRecorder to record 2-way conversations directly from the Android API (not the speakerphone), and, as far as I know, without beeps.
Standard Disclaimer: I won't take responsibility for anything that might go wrong. I seriously suggest that you do a nandroid backup in CWM before starting this procedure. And, in the likely event that this does work for you, just hit the thanks button on your way outta town. Thank you..
First, you need to be rooted with ClockWorkMod Recovery already flashed. If you are, proceed. If not, there are threads in the Development section that will help you accomplish this. These directions assume that you have a basic operational understanding of ClockWorkMod Recovery. With that being said, here's what you need to do.
1. Do a nandroid backup in CWM. JUST DO IT.
2. Download "call_rec_libs_skyrocket_2.3.5.zip" and "CallRecorder_v.1.2.2_trial.zip" below.
3. Flash "call_rec_libs_skyrocket_2.3.5.zip" in CWM.
4. "Wipe cache partition" and "Wipe dalvik cache" in CWM.
5. Reboot and make sure you have "Unknown Sources" checked in Settings-->Applications. Then extract "CallRecorder_v.1.2.2_trial.apk" from "CallRecorder_v.1.2.2_trial.zip", copy it onto your phone and install it. Once the installation is complete, you can un-check "Unknown Sources" if you wish maintain the security of your phone in that way.
6. Open CallRecorder, then hit the menu touch key (lower left corner, next to home), and then go to Preferences.
7. Change the "Record calls from" option from "Kernel with 2-way call recording patch" to "Standard Android API"
8. Customize any other settings if you wish, and then call your mom (or voicemail ) to test the 2-way recording functionality.
9. Complete the call, then open CallRecorder. You should see the recorded call on the screen. Touch it to play back the call. To your amazement, you should hear both sides of the conversation.
10. Live long and prosper..
Thanks goes out to noodles2224, who lent me his updated copy of CallRecorder for tesing purposes (which I have now purchased from the Market). Credit for the libaudio files goes to seanzscreams (as far as I know, I have no idea where he got them from), and skvalex for CallRecorder. All I did was put 2 and 2 together and throw the libaudio files into a CWM flashable zip.
CallRecorder is an app that's found on Android Market, and the version that I've attached is a trial only. Support the developer (skvalex) by purchasing the full version from the Market here ($5). I'm sure skvalex spent A LOT of time creating this app, so show this Russian bad-ass that you appreciate his work and help him justify all that time spent. If you do buy it from the Market, be sure to uninstall the trial version beforehand.
On a side note, FUGG YOU AT&T. I know you troll these walls.. I don't like being controlled. Leave your tyrannical codemonkey bulls)-(|t north of the 38th Parallel, where it belongs.

Bump. Many thanks. Been looking for these.

I'll go ahead and ask this to get it out of the way.
Does this work on a stock odexed 2.3.6 ROM? It says it works on one of the 2.3.6 kernals, but that's different than stock.
Thanks for this MOD. ANything that puts the phone the way it should be (without AT&Ts BS) is a step in the right direction.

nice mod, should help a lot of people. Call recording is always fun.
But honestly, please leave the political comments out of your post... really. I have no problem with your dislike of communists, but there's no need to dictate that here.

PS....
Call recorder from market works on stock unrooted SR. Option for kernel selected in settings or Android API.

I was wondering about the lib files on the odexed 2.3.6 stock ROM. The apk is no good if the libs can't be modified on the phone.

Funny never worked for me. Only thing that ever worked was on my captivate and that was total recall and it only worked in speakerphone mode.

I'll bet you a shiny quarter that you either 1) have an SGH-i727R or 2) you're using a UXKJ7-based ROM.
The Roger's base doesn't appear to suffer from the same "deficiency" as the UCKJ2 base. I guess I should have mentioned that..
Either way, I'm glad it works for you. However, not everyone is having the same good fortune..

Why iandr0idos, are you calling me... a dictator?? hahaha
I admit, not very PC language, even though I had no intention of offending anyone. I'll try to take it down a notch in the future. For the record, I don't dislike communists. I have Chinese friends, and I'm certain there's many nice people whom I'll never meet living in North Korea. It's more-so the establishment of despotism and any oppressive deviation thereof that I don't particularly care for.

Odexed shouldn't make any difference. The libraries have no .odex counterpart, and you can still install deodexed .apks on an odexed ROM. Make a nandroid backup, and give it whack.

The libraries aren't optimized. odex/deodex doesn't matter.

PM me that quarter. I restored mine from MyBackup Pro to my brothers in the AT&T store before he walked out with it this passed Saturday. Works just fine stock unrooted. Got mine from the market.
Weird it works for some and not others tho.

A "thanks" will have to suffice. haha
Yep, it's true. The very first thing I did was purchase the Market version. After ten minutes of frantically experimenting will all the program options and still no joy, I hit the refund button. Then I embarked on this "crusade"..
The second I dropped those libaudio libraries in there, *p00f!* It magically started working..
I will concede that when I first started looking, I found an old, deprecated alpha version of CallRecorder that, for some strange reason did work half-assedly. Nothing newer than that did, though.

You have me thinking now....
My veraon was from the market but I am rooted and rom'd. I did a data and apk restore to my brothers phone. Knowing it can modify anything if it isn't rooted I wonder now why it worked. My bud just got the SR and the market one didn't work but he removed and installed my backup and it did. He's stock no root also. Now I'm just confused about it lol.

You're very welcome. I started recording all my calls when I got my Nokia N95 4 years ago, and I have no intention of stopping any time soon..
I even have SIPDroid recording all of my Google Voice calls now. CallRecorder's great and all, but the compressed 64 kilobit audio of a VOIP call makes these sound RIDICULOUS.
Now if I could only figure out how to get the DTMF tones to work flawlessly.....

Please confirm, Can I use it on my Galaxy S with CodeNameAndroid 1.4.0 ROM ? Thanks!

This is great! Anyone had luck with Total Recall yet?

I'm still using a backup of the call recorder from skyics rom. Worked on the note, captivate, several skyrockets, an aria and a bunch of other devices also. I've just restored to each phone from my tibu backup and no probably at all on any of them.

I intalled this a couple of days ago and here is my review...
As always FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS IN THE OP TO THE LETTER!
Here are a couple of things that may be of interest. Of course, this is how it works on my phone...how it works on yours may differ. I am using the ALien 6 ROM (and loving it!).
1. The trial version of CallRecorder included in the OP only let me open it one time before it said the trial was up. This wasn't a huge problem for me because I was planning on buying the full version anyway to support the DEV and get the fully functional version. I would have liked to do some testing before the purchase, but everything worked out good anyway. The App's Dev claims there is a place here on XDA that you can get the trial, so maybe it will give you more time than the version in the OP does. It IS worth the purchase though. And as stated, make sure you delete the trial version before installing the full (purchased) version.
2. On my phone, the recorder works great. It even records both sides of the conversation while using bluetooth. Several people in the Google Play page claim the person on the other end of the line cannot be heard. In my case, there is a slight drop in volume from the original conversation to the recorded version, but it is not huge. I could clearly hear both sides of the recorded converstation without touching the volume control...but there is a slight difference.
3. The app works great. There is an option to set it to vibrate once recording starts and stops but I haven't used it. There is an icon that stays on the top notification area of the screen while the app is active. It changes color while a conversation is recorded. SO, basically, it isn't even noticed while it is doing its thing. There isn't a way to easily turn the app off once it is activated. It runs as a service on the phone until the service is physically stopped (through settings) but it is not a big deal. There is no noticible battery usage or anything else when it is active and you never know when a call comes in that you want to record so its a good thing it runs as a service. The phone deep sleeps just fine with it running. A toggle would be nice...maybe with the ability to pause and resume recording at choice, but I didn't notice any such feature. However, there are several configurable points within the app's settings that I haven't tried that seem to allow exceptions and rules for which calls are recorded and how they are recorded. There seems to be alot of such options.
4. The recorded quality of the call is great (even with the before mentioned volume difference). You can choose between several formats for the call to be saved in and you can chose where the calls are saved to. Remeber, the app records the call as you hear it. This means if you are in a bad connection area where words are droped or slurred or where there is a lot of static that the recording will reflect it. Its not the apps fault, it is the connections fault.
5. Someone on the Google Play site made a comment about being able to add notes to recordings...well, guess what, you can! If you long touch the redording, a menu of options appears. Some of them are "delete" "move", and yes "add note" as well as many others.
To sum it up, this works great! If anything happens or if I think of anything else that someone else might want to know about it I will post it here. Enjoy!

[ROM] DamageControl v1.0 - Sense 2.1 w/video rec - LIGHTNING FAST! - 100% complete!

DamageControl Sense 2.1 ROM - Espresso optional! - 100% complete!
PLEASE READ THIS POST BEFORE YOU POST!!!
This ROM is now 100% for a reason! Please read below!
Why is this 100%
There is a fix for *nearly* every problem - just search the thread!
For things there isn't a fix for, there is a workaround that works better
The rest of the problems are problems that cannot be fixed until there is a better leak, we get our hands on the source of the kernel, or Sprint releases something. However, it should be noted that the problems are extremely minimal. Microscopic, even.
EVERYTHING IN THIS ROM IS FUNCTIONAL/SIZE]
There are workarounds to nearly everything. Things that cannot be fixed are problems with the leak itself. There is really no reason not to upgrade to this ROM as far as functionality is concerned - problems are MICROSCOPIC!!! If you believe the Sprint update really is going to come in two weeks, go ahead and use this ROM now! Changing to the official one will be easy!
This thread is 225+ pages long, you CAN and WILL find a fix to find a fix if you look for it!!!
Installation Steps:
-Download whichever ROM you want between Espresso or Normal (Decaf?)
-Rename the file to update.zip and flash like you would any other ROM. Note: it may be a good idea to wipe EVERYTHING!!! You MUST flash if you are coming from a different ROM.
If the ROM fails to boot, wipe your ext partition!!!
To get Apps2SD (Applications are stored on your SD card - must be partitioned!
-PARTITION YOUR SD CARD
MMS Problems?:
-If you have MMS problems, download this: http://damageless.kingspond.com/signed-mms-fix.zip
-Rename to update.zip and flash it to your phone.
-NOTE THAT HANDCENT WILL NOT SEND MMS!!! THIS IS NOT SOMETHING WE CAN FIX!!!
Other reported problems:
-Handcent will not send MMS. This is a problem with every 2.1 ROM and is not something that we can fix.
Tethering:
-Wifi tether is included.
-If you refuse to tether using wifi, you can use EasyTether Lite or something similar that is available in the Market.
Worse signal?
-You do not have a worse signal because of this ROM. It has less bars at the top.
Apps force closing all the time?
-Boot into recovery, go to Other and select the Fix UID option.
Invalid authentication with Google
-There is something wrong that is fairly deep, but it is a problem with the leak of the Eris 2.1 ROM. This only happens when you have a message or voicemail waiting.
Voicemail notification
-Go into the menu, then go to settings, click the call menu and then click Clear Voicemail Notification. Also make sure you change the voicemail service number to your own number!!!
Visual Voicemail
Use Google Voice or Youmail. We need something from Sprint to get Visual Voicemail to work.
Battery Life
Your battery life shouldn't change much. If you are experiencing problems, try the 'airplane mode' fix, and check your CDMA PRL settings.
Other Problems?:
-Try rebooting.
-If that doesn't work, backup your device through nandroid and then wipe everything!
-Search, then post. There are over 1,000 posts here, most likely someone has experienced the same problem as you.
SEARCH THE THREAD!!!
FAQ
Why won't Handcent send MMS?
Because it is an incompatibility issue.
Why can't I send MMS?
Because either you are not on Sprint or you need to apply the fix.
What is the difference between Espresso and the normal version?
Check the screenshots.
What about Visual Voicemail?
Until we get something from Sprint, this won't work. However, you can use Google Voice or you can use Youmail. Both work great.
My Google Voice doesn't work!
Use version 0.20 to fix it.
Bank of America, other apps don't work
Looking into this problem...
Superuser shows up blank
Make sure you have debug mode on.
What's Next for this ROM?:
I will continue to update this ROM with small fixes and things that are nice, but I consider this fully functional. I am going to work on smaller things that will enhance the ROM a bit. This isn't the last update!
About this ROM:
I decided to make this ROM after some other ROMs just weren't working out for me. Things were far too buggy, didn't seem to work very well, and it all seemed a little clunky. I decided that I would try to combine the best of the ROMs, not doing it the typical way (by just combining stuff I like), but by combining things to make it functional. This ROM is meant to be fast, stable and reliable. I will not add things that will load down the system or kill battery life.
I decided on the name (with help) because of the recent problems on XDA. The community was not united, and I thought the best way to unite everyone was to bring in a new ROM with a new vision and focus. This ROM has been incredibly successful in this way, thanks to those who started this ROM's thread out the right way. I believe we have a lot of good spirit here and we can continue with the attitude of helping one another and helping one another out, all personal interests aside.
I hope that you enjoy this ROM and find that it suits your needs.
Make sure you wipe if you are coming from a different ROM!!!
Microscopic quirks:
Trackball light intermittent
Asks you to log in when you have some type of message waiting
Special thanks goes to Avalaunchmods, gbhil, flipz, and everybody who has helped out and to every community member who has been supportive and uplifting! Each of you have helped in your own ways, and that is the essence of a true community.

damageless said:
Alright, all I have done is taken some things from the gumbo ROM and the Fresh ROM to make a fully functional (as far as I can tell), 2.1 Sense UI ROM, signed it, and here it is for someone else.
I'm not sure if this will be useful to anyone or not. I will not maintain this ROM as I do not take any credit for doing anything other than combining some files and signing it. I am also going to modify a few things to get it working a little better and tweak it a bit, but it isn't something I plan on maintaining.
The only reason I did this was because I was very disappointed in the ROM that flipzmode released because of how many things he broke trying to do his own thing. I was hoping he would release something functional before he decided to go mod everything but oh well.
The one thing I have noticed is that ADB doesn't recognize the device. This probably has something to do with the kernel but like I said, I'm not providing support for this, just providing the resource. I'm sure something better will be released soon, but what the heck.
Again, I am not taking credit for anything here. Please donate to those who created the ROMs.
I should mention that I haven't tried visual voicemail and I am guessing it isn't working. Not sure if we have to wait for Sprint to come out with something or not.
I should mention that I have gotten Sprint TV to work on this, I'm not sure why other people are having problems. However, if you want Sprint TV, then you should simply copy the apk from your old ROM to the new one.
I will also update this to include apps2sd tomorrow. Also maybe get adb working. - I don't consider these to tools to be something that people use on a day-to-day basis which is why I call this fully-functioning. I also haven't fully tested everything, but as far as I can tell, everything works.
It is nice to have camera and video recording, though. All apps seem to show up in the Market. It does show Verizon stuff, and I need to make sure everything is on Sprint, but I will update it tomorrow to be a bit better. This is just a quick release. I will clean it up a bit, add some things to make it more functional and then release a better version.

Text-To-Speech

Apparently this feature is acting up on other devices but was wondering if anyone had this working on their G2x and if so how did you manage to get it working?

What sort of issues are you having, and what ROM are you using? I had some issues with bluetooth and tts with CM7. I've switched over to EB 2.3.3, and all is working well.
Make sure you have everything you need installed.
Go to settings/voice input & output/text-to-speech settings/
If "Install voice data" isn't grayed out, click on that...it will take you to the market to download the voice engine.
I haven't noticed any problems with my tts, running my current ROM, but I also don't use Pico. I use Svox. It cost around $2-3 for the voice download, but it's much nicer than Pico.
Good Luck.
I'm running stock GB 2.3.3
I was hoping it would read text as they came in similar to the new WP7 Mango update but apparently the framework doesn't support that yet.
It takes me to the market, i download the application but then it uninstalls itself and shows that i have never downloaded the application before. I might install Faux123 rom and see if i can get it to work.

What app are you trying to d/l? I've never really tested out text message readers. I know Handcent will read the text, but IDK if you can set it to read as they come in.
I did test out Vlingo way back, and I must say...it was pretty good. I just don't like that it requires data usage (I'm on a limited data plan). But, for reading texts, Vlingo was pretty awesome. It even understood things like LOL (rather than say L-O-L, it would read it as "laughing out loud"). It even translated WTF, which of course made me laugh like a 12yr old kid.
I'm not downloading any. I was hoping the stock messaging application would do this as i kind of like the layout but sucks as far as security is concerned but that is an android thing.
I'll give the Vlingo a try and see if it works.
Thanks for the help.

Looking to try CM7 for Infuse? "First Timers", Read this.

I just wanted to note down a few things that I wished I knew before flashing my Infuse.
Substituting your official Samsung build for unofficial ROMs like CyanogenMOD (CM) is a double edged sword. On one hand you get to play with the latest and greatest stuff...but on the other hand you have no guarantees of any kind. I'm not sure but you may be in violation of your warranty. In other words you're on your own.
Now there are forums like the Official CM forums and XDA where you'll get help if you run into issues but the bottom line is: You flashed your phone on your own responsibility. Nobody is liable for that. Nobody has any duty to resolve your issues. You may get a response, you may not. Sometimes the level of solution varies with the technical level of the person trying to help you. I may not be able to fix your problem... My suggestion may even f*** it up worse.
In my opinion, if your phone has critical data that you depend on (contacts, appointments etc)... it would be wise to stick with the OS build your phone came with. It may be old...but it has been tested by qualified engineers. All aspects of the phone are functional. And if you run into an issue, you can always pick up the phone and call somebody. When you flash your phone, there's always a minimal chance that you may lose your data (I'm not saying it always happens...but it can). You also lose the privilege of support provided by your carrier or anybody else.
Secondly, your Infuse ships with OS that has been modified by Samsung to provide you with a better experience. These are things which I'll list down at the end, that you'd lose with a custom build like CM. So you'd gain some features by trying the latest version of android but you'd lose a few features too! Because they were provided by Samsung, not by Google.
Things like:
1. No quick view in Calendar. You have to go to Agenda view in options where all entries of all dates will be visible. You cannot see daily appointments on the default Month view. Also there's no option for persistent alarm for your appointments. In the stock build my alarm for tasks used to ring for 15 minutes...now there just one ring and silence. Its a little thing but I sometimes miss the alarm and the whole purpose is lost.
2. Contacts applications is modified by Samsung. Joining contacts from different sources (facebook, twitter) into a single contact is much easier. You can do that in CM too but I had to search the Internet for that option.
You'd also get alphabets on the side of the screen while scrolling contacts. Tap an alphabet and you quickly jump to contacts that start with that alphabet. That's missing in CM too.
3. There are some widgets provided by Samsung like Running Applications widget which I absolutely loved. It would show number of running applications and a quick option to close them all. CM has a task manager and the market has applications that can replicate that functionality but I haven't found one as nifty as that little widget. Then theres a Dual Clock widget, which was important to me as I have contacts in different timezones. I could easily check their time at a glance. In short there were some gems that I miss... and I can't get with CM.
4. Messaging app was modified by Samsung to allow quick addition of a particular group (e.g. all the contacts in Family group) to senders list.
5. There was a very nice Memo app that you could store notes in for offline use. There are tons of alternatives in the market like Springpad, Evernote etc but I kinda liked that app. It had a very nice yellow legal pad template. Its a minor gripe but hey!
6. There's no swype in CM7! Samsung preloads your Infuse with swype. If you've not used swype, its an awesome way to input text. I found that I could sign up for Swype beta and use it in CM but then again....beta is a beta. It has problems.
7. Bluetooth (currently) doesn't completely work in CM7. You can transfer data but audio pairing is an issue. It doesn't bother me but it may be something you use.
8. Wifi is fine but try using Mobile Data on CM. I still haven't figured how to set up my mobilink GPRS internet. I tried setting up the APN with the same settings as on the stock build but it doesn't seem to work. It worked fine under Samsung. But YMMV. It may be particular to my network and CM build.
9. There's no voice search in google search widget. I had to install an apk from net to get it working. It wouldn't even show up in the market.
10. Also you'll lose all your settings in applications. You'll get your apps back from the market (Even the Paid ones...you won't have to re-purchase) but you'll have to set them up all again just the way you want. That may not be such a big deal for some but it may irk you. Also don't use Titanium Backup to restore you app data. I tried that and every f***ing app would crash every ten minutes. I had to reflash again.
11. Your partitions will show up different in the file manager. For example your internal sd card (as it showed up in stock build) will be mounted under 'emmc'. I had to look online for that. Now that may not be a major thing but it screwed up a lot of app data links.
12. Lastly CM isn't even official for Infuse yet. All you have are volunteers packaging builds for Infuse. Hats off to their hard work! But as a user.... you are the tester! So if you're comfortable running untested beta grade software only then go for CM7 on your infuse. Otherwise stick with the stock build.
I'll keep adding other differences as I remember and discover them. You guys can pitch in too.
This post is by no means an attempt to belittle CM. Its an excellent ROM. It has its own advantages which you can read up on its website. I'm just highlighting some tradeoffs so that new users like myself exactly know what they're giving up.
So if you still want to go ahead and flash your Infuse, full power to you. At least you'll be making an informed decision. Just please backup your critical data. Sync your contacts with Google. Back up your music and videos, messages, downloads etc.
Go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1400375 for the latest CM7 build for Infuse.
Enjoy the CM awesomeness! Best of Luck
This is what distinguishes the men from the boys...or should I say android from apple....be cause we have options....yea...it voids your warranty..who cares...my dedutibke on my insurance and wait time for warranty repair isn't worth it. First we have options, apple doesn't, so if your scared say your scared and buy an iPhone...and as long as you have a back up you will not lose any critical info.. I flash my phone about 20 times or more a day testing out my rom builds and themes and have bricked a hundred times and all info is intact...if you stay stock on infuse...slow, laggy, bad signal.....this is why us devs work so hard ...so your phone and you don't....happy hollidays

Well said bro...just came off a semi-hard brick and I'm back in business. And you can believe I'll keep flashing. CM7 isn't the only game in town. We've had a tidal wave of ports and even a couple infuse-based roms (thanks D) that can cater to anyones needs. All you gotta do is read and enjoy all the hard work these devs put in.
sbjaved - Thanks so much for this! i just flashed CM10, and am discovering what i've lost (From the latest samsung gingerbread leak) - and what i've gained! two days in and it's so worth it - The only thing i miss is MHL and quite frankly, it's a small loss.

[ROM] ELIGOROM 3.0.0p1, now with more jellybean! cam works 8/26/2012

i know guys, im horrible. lol. i said i was done porting. but i had a little time to spare and just couldnt help myself. this runs pretty well, on par with shelnutt2's cm10 nightlies, just has camera added and some other stuff.
now based off of jb, mongoosehelix projected p2 will be out this weekend, so maybe ill find time to get it ported.
changelog:
eligo-3.0.0p1: 8/26/2012
initial upload
camera works about like ics
k guys
if you try this rom, expect some level of bad juju. i guaruntee some things will not work right. but if you ask me to fix it i will try my hardest to do so.
to start, im not gifted enough to know how to develop, im just a lowly borrower, so if i have nothing to borrow, i have nothing to offer
also i take no responsibility for your phone crashing and burning in an epic fashion, and/or if your cat jumps off your keyboard and makes your coffee spill on your lap, or war, or famine, or disease, or anything of the sort. try at your own risk, dont bother me if your phone blows up
dont give me any credit, give the following people mad props and donate to them if you wish to:
mongoosehelix and all the crew over at the eris forums and evervolv for the rom
dsixda and his kitchen
shelnutt2
anyone else that helped that i may have forgot
im sure i forgot people, im sorry if i did and if i forgot you please yell at me and ill make sure to thank you
this is based off of 4.1.1, evervolv eligo 3.0.0p1 for the eris
what works:
touchscreen
sdcard
radio (data and calls)
adb
camera preview and taking pics
bigger keyboard, more like gb
wifi
buttons
audio
root
vibration
bluetooth
usb mass storage
minfrees set in kernel at boot time
mms hopefully
gps seems to lock on
try messing with camera settings in camera app, i turned down the resolution from 5 mp to UXGA and picture taking worked quicker and looked better in my opinion
works with problems:
camcorder (displays preview but i cant get it to record)
bluetooth
audio, comes out of speaker but not 3.5mm audio jack
other stuff im sure
what i didnt test: (lol its your jobs to test it)
pretty much everything else
when you flash this, remember i did not sign it, so if your using clockworkmod recovery toggle signature verification
i turn off all vibration, except for notifications, that includes the keyboard as haptic feedback slows things down.
jb gapps ~17mb: http://www.mediafire.com/?p5cl09j6bqfdo1d
edit: changed gapps, ripped out stuff that slows down the rom, no functionality hit
go into phone app, hit menu, then settings, and check your voicemail number, im on boost so mine is my phone number
this port will not:
most likely be a finished project
win a beauty contest
make your manhood bigger
if you see something wrong, please fix it or ask me to
and now for the link before i forget:
Eligo-3.0.0p1
http://www.mediafire.com/?vzuhrrc1ledxmp4
Eligorom 2.2.0b1-2 ICS (old, not supported anymore)
http://www.mediafire.com/?3aumitqaqzkalf8
happy flashing!
gonna repurpose this post
things to accomplish
keep up with updates from shelnutt2 and mongoosehelix.
if you would like to see something added to this to-do list, please post it
Update .zip would be nice, also noticed that the device is still Eris, not sure if you meant for it to be or not.

Many thanks! Also before I flash back, how might I get mms to work? That is the sole reason I don't use this as a daily rom now.

hey shakes im working on a fix for mms now
you might have to be my guinea pig though lol so make sure to nandroid before you do any of the stuff to your phone, i dont use mms so i cant tell you if it works
i do see the problem, and it lies in the fact that this was made to be a verizon rom, but a quick fix/replace of /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/telephony.db should do the trick
shakes, go ahead and flash the update zip attached to the first post
please let me know if it works or not, if not ill keep trying, but hopefully its just fixed
Alright, also the update file is actually incorrect, I didn't know it was an update until you posted that... you put the oom file on that post.
update.zip added to first post, its a roll up of all the updates ive added since release
shakes did you try installing the rom and the update.zip? did mms work? please let us know of your findings, that would be absolutely awesome if it just worked, another thing i can check off my to-do list
So, findings: I cannot read, didn't realize the oom file was the update. Flashed that and the mms fix, mms works now but won't download in stock app... Also noticed camera won't focus, not sure if that can be fixed or not. And finally, if I remember correctly the task switcher preview isn't normally zoomed in? Just glad it's working finally, but something to look into if you have time.

I can't seem to get this to boot, what recovery and gapps should I be using? Currently on cwm 4.0.1.4, I flash rom, flash gapps, flash update.zip and boot. Sits at evervolv boot animation for a long time and never boots in. Left it sitting for an hour and still no boot...
hey goliath
sorry to hear you cant get this to boot. i use the stock recovery from Rom Manager, its 2.5.0.7 . ive never used the 4 versions. are you on the newest sprint radio? (2.42.02.10.29) older radios have stopped me from being able to boot cm 7 in the past, could be the issue with yours. also toggle "signature verification" in cwmod recovery as i have not signed my rom or updates. first boot does take a few extra minutes, but an hour is too long, something definitely is rotten in denmark. as far as gapps i use this one: http://goo.im/gapps/gapps-ics-20120429-signed.zip
but i delete the gallery app after install as it just displays black boxes, i use quickpic instead
ill do whatever i can and whatever it takes to get you successfully booting.
shakes,
i have another test for you. im attaching a file called "mmsfix2.zip" to this post that will replace your mms.apk with one from the heroc evervolv rom, and hopefully that should make it so you get the messages in the stock app. as far as holding home for previews, im not sure why they are zoomed but as soon as i figure it out expect an update. if this mms.apk switch works, ill add it to the update.zip attached to the first post.
with camera, unfortunately some things wont work yet. stritfajt posted his camera fix and theres nothing more i can do unless he figures more out, but hes a smart guy and im sure in short time things will be all figured out with it.
Thank you, do you have any screenshots before i try this out?
Sent from my Transformer Prime TF201 using XDA
just noticed my sprint radio is baseband version 242010427, i guess that means i have to flash to a sense rom and update my prl, right?
Sent from my Transformer Prime TF201 using XDA
hey postal psycho
the radio i use is attached to this post, if you need to just flash it through clockworkmod recovery, you can try to load eligorom with the radio you have right now, but if it doesnt boot then im pretty sure its the radio version, no need to flash back to stock and update prl
i suggest if you like the rom your on right now, nandroid backup. just in case.
i dont have any screenshots to upload, but if you check out this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1352170
post #2 there are some screenshots from where this rom originated. i use zeam launcher in place of the stock ics launcher. happy flashing and if you need any help just let me know and ill do my best to fix problems for you
The media fire link is not working, it was okay last night but I didn't finish the download
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA
mediafire link is working fine over here, try again, if you you still cant download from mediafire and need something else just let me know and ill set up a mirror but you may have just got a bad download, it happens

dude, you didn't have to give me any props, though it is very nice for you. I am like you, a guy who tries to help out the Hero community not to die. I'm not a developer thought but I know a few things here and there. The rom at your brother 'hero gsm' is a WIP (work in progress) but right now its almost stalling because we wait for 4.0.5 sources to come out. I've made a 4.0.4 build with all the modifications but after flashing I was amazed to see how slow it is moving. Almost impossible to use! So right now we don't want to jump on the bandwagon of 4.0.4 since it is worse than what we have and we heard some rumors that 4.0.5 should be even more faster than 4.0.3.
I hope you get more testers for this, I see that there are only a couple of people who have flashed it.
Be sure to send me a PM in case you need any infos. Oh, and minfree values don't stick at boot (as you said), we don't have any idea why. The script is good, it has the correct format but after the boot cycle, the rom takes the old minfree values.
one more thing, scripts are working fine in 4.0.4, just be sure to use Notepad++ when edit them. And change the text format to UNIX not DOS/Windows (from Edit - EOL conversions tab - UNIX).
hey nukeboy glad to hear you like it
1ceb0x, hey i gotta give credit where credits due. i studied the scripts you guys have for a few days before porting this rom, and wouldnt have known anything about them if it werent for you guys. your ics rom over there at the gsm side runs like a champ on hero cdma, but im kinda stalled in the port because i cant get sdcard to mount the right way, so thats why i went with eris.
would you happen to know why sdcard prepares, mounts, and then says ok to remove? thats the only thing stalling the port of 4.0.3 herogsm. i have a feeling its a difference in how cdma and gsm mounts the sd card, but cant find the cause.

[Q] Tediously specific questions

Hey XDA!
I rooted my Infuse months ago and flashed a custom ROM I found here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1412957) with little trouble. ZEUS has worked great ever since and rarely fails for my purposes. I have a Limited Data plan (200 MB/Month) with AT&T and no warranty to worry about voiding
Anyway, I have some specific questions that seem to be affected by the conditions I've described. I apologize in advance, I'm by no means an expert and would appreciate any guidance offered
1) Being that I'm rooted and running a custom ROM, the usual methods of changing certain preferences are complicated. Specifically, how do I enter the "saved words" or "dictionary" that autocorrect uses for inputted text? I'd like to add/edit/delete words. Is there a method? With the stock ROM, it was pretty simple, but now I don't see any similar options when I'm in the settings menu.
2) I think Swype isn't supported by the new ROM because I no longer had the option of selecting it once I rooted and I do find I miss it lol. Any way to restore it without downloading an app?
3) Recently, I tried paying for an app* in the Market (or Play Store or whatever you wanna call it, but it'll always be the Market to me lol) and found that the only way to do that was through using Google Wallet. I found that Google Wallet wasn't listed in the Play Store when I searched the exact words "Google Wallet" and somewhere in this effort, concluded that ZEUS was too outdated to support the app. I think a prompt from the Play Store confirmed this, but I'm still not sure. Isn't ZEUS just a variation of Gingerbread, anyway? So, since I'm rooted with a custom ROM, am I ineligible from purchasing in the Market?
4*) APPS: Do you guys even "buy" apps? I'm vaguely familiar with the idea of "cracked apps" but have no idea how to safely procure any.
5) Generally, should I just flash to a newer ROM? ZEUS has worked pretty well, but the above issues (the most pressing being 1 and 4) have made me rethink ZEUS. That was months ago, is it now outdated? Any good ICS ROMS (unported, because I don't like dealing with the bugs that inevitably follow ported ROMS) available?
Any help would be a appreciated, I'm sorry this was such a long post and I did scour the forums as best I could before posting this thread.
Thanks a lot!

1) Don't know about that. It's never been an issue for me. In general you'll find the settings for that type of stuff by opening the settings in the keyboard. But in general I think most people add words one at a time as it is necessary... I don't know if you can access the whole dictionary in an easy way, and even if you could... why?
2) Swype is an app. You don't have it, you can't use it. I would just reinstall.
3) ??? No. You shouldn't have any issues like this. Never happened to me; can't think of a reason why. Maybe problem with data connection? Maybe you should install a different ROM and start from scratch.
4) You'll get in trouble for even mentioning that, probably. Buy your apps, support the devs, period.
5) Yes, IMHO. ZEUS has been surpassed (again, IMHO.) I would run AEON or Vagabond for GB... both stable, great pieces of work. ICS still has room to grow and progress to be made, I think. There are some great choices there, and exciting features too. ParanoidAndroid, RemICS, jblparisi's... great stuff, (also none of it would be possible without jt1134 and Entropy) but I always end up going back to GB for the time being because of speed and stability.
Flash a new ROM, I would suggest. If your problems persist... search xda or ask.
But to me it sounds like your ROM just isn't working for you and you need something a little different...

Thank you SO MUCH for that comprehensive and helpfully speedy reply! Definitely will flash one of the newer ROMs you mentioned after I do some reading up. That, I think, will resolve most of these issues
In regards to why you would access the inputted text dictionary: to add/edit/delete words that appear as suggestions for autocorrect. I have several recurring words that are either in caps lock or misspelled ("you" becomes "yoy" way too often because I accidentally saved it one day). With the stock ROM and most others, accessing the setting is pretty straightforward. Settings/Language and Input/Dictionary or something like that.
In any case, I'll just flash something else, it's time for a change. Thanks again!
