TWRP BACKUP Problem - General Questions and Answers

I made a Backup in my old rom (miui 12.5) with the idea of restoring ONLY application data in the rom that I would install later (Pixel Experience A13). When I installed the rom I started it normally, went into recovery mode to restore the backup, and I didn't know which partitions to select. I selected Data(exclude...whatever) and boot once it was done I just rebooted to the system and it stayed at the google logo. Flash a zip (I don't know what it's for, I just know it's necessary to use the rom in the first place) and reboot the system again and this time it started fine....I found the miui launcher and more applications they were installed (logically if the back up was from miui I was going to find that) so I decided to delete them, but when I connect to the internet something very curious happens, the phone after 10-20 seconds turns completely black. I restart it and nothing, absolutely nothing, loads the google logo and launches me into what I think is the system, but with a completely black screen. Help please, I can use the rom normally but I really need that app data

Extract the app data from the backup then physically move the app data to your Android folder using a PC.

freeze when entering clockworkmod recovery

previously, i tried to install some theme in my D2g , but sadly it got failed and stucked in a boot loop.
then i used the nandroid backup to restore the "system" file only,
after that, my phone could successfully boot up as normal.
but now i got some strange issues,
first, i cannot reboot recovery, it just freeze in the white motorola icon.
second, i cannot add contact other that google account, i want to add facebook as the profile pic source, but failed.
third, the motorola widgets , like calender cannot add into the homepage, it just no response after press add widget. i am not using launcherpro , just as same as
the time before restore.
is that i must flash sbf, and this is 100% work?and bring my phone to normal?
Yes, the SBF will turn your phone back to 100% stock, like it came out of the box. And looking at your issues, if you cant even get back into recovery, then it def sounds like you need to SBF. Then maybe after you've SBF'ed you can do your restore again, but this time the full restore.
Do you know how to flash sbf? I afraid I will do it wrong again.
Can I just use the hard reset in the privacy setting?
The factory reset will only erase your apps, personal data, etc. As for how to SBF: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=770224

Brick after G2 Weather Widget (?)

Somehow I managed to start the device using 3D+VolDown+Power. While it should have went into recovery it started as usual, giving me the choice between HomeScreen and Trebuchet. After choosing Homescreen I got the message "Homescreen got stopped" in an endless loop. Had to delete homescreen so I would get the option to choose Trebuchet after a restart again. Seems like this was the wrong way to get LGLauncher+Weather Widget to run on PACMAN ROM v21.0. :/
Ola,
I have PACMAN ROM v22.0 (JB 4.2.2). Usually after a bootloop happend, I went into CWM, did factory reset+delete cache+delete dalvik and restored my backup.
This time I tried to install the G2 weather widget from here :
http://www.gogadgetx.com/download-a...dget-and-live-wallpaper-to-any-android-phone/
Installed launcher apk and weather apk and copied the WeatherMultiCPbin.apk to system/apps. So far so good.
After I wanted to set permissions of rw-r-r- of WeatherMultiCPbin.apk, idt didnt quiete do so.
It asked for SU and I said ok, but it did not turn into rw-r-r-.
So wanted to leave the file explorer, just to see a short "Error blabla happened". I wasnt fast enough to read it.
I restarted my device, just to see a bootloop. So back to CWM doing a factory reset+delete cache+delete dalvik and restore my backup.
After it finsihed, I choose restart device...and the screen stayed black.
Kept out battery for some minutes...no chance to turn it on or get into recovery. Connecting it via USB to PC wont do anythign either.
What could probably have gone wrong here ? :S
p.s.
Battery was at 79% when flash finsihed. I have cwm 6, which I know turns phone on automatically after inserting battery (which i dont like but ok)

[Completed] Zopo ZP820 OS Corrupted-cannot reflash or reset

Ill try to be as descriptive as possible
Zopo ZP820 running 4.2.2
Phone worked fine the other day, went to use it yesterday morning, kept saying all running processes forced quit over and over, all google services, etc.
If i reboot the phone, it keep showing the same 4 Gmail emails, the same 4 text messages. If i go in and physically delete all of the emails and text messages, they are gone. If i reboot the phone, they all come back.
Also went in and uninstalled every single app on phone that was allowable, basically it went back to stock apps, even uninstalled all updates to all google services, etc.
Reboot the phone, everything is back to the way it was, apps and all, and this is after removing the SD card and powering off and rebooting.
Tried to do a factory reset from the settings screen, it reboots into recovery mode, the only options i had were to wipe cache and reset data/cache, when done, i reboot, and yet again it goes back to the same exact way.
It is almost as if the entire phone restores itself every reboot to the same setup.
Also tried using newest SP Flash Tools with 3 different versions of the ROM for my phone, the original stock one, the updated stock one and a custom MIUI one. I go thru the entire process for the two stock ones, it says it formatted and reflashed, but reboot again and it is back to same one that is corrupt.
If i try to use the MIUI one using the recovery option holding power and vol down, when i choose the zip file for the MIUI, it says installation aborted. And what is ieven more odd is that if i reinstall all of the programs or even new apps, if i reboot they are all gone as if they were never installed.
Is there a way that the phone can be totally wiped so that no trace of any files on the phone exist at all? in SP Tools there was an auto format and manual format i did both, but got the same results
Any help would be greatly appreciated

HELP - Phone cannot be factory reset... To cry or laugh?

Hello everyone!
This is my first post here, and I have a problem with my phone.
It is Highscreen Boost II (russian one, you didn't maybe even heard about it). Google for it...
The main problem is that the phone started to act strange one day. Example: I unlock the phone, start opening my apps (Fb, Insta, Viber...) and after a few minutes it just restarts by them self. I also tried to turn OFF the Internet connection, but all the same thing.
The phone is rooted, and it have CWM recovery. And here starts the funny part. XD
When I go to CWM, i go to factory reset, it all done right, it says "successful" on the, but what is the strange part, that it just takes like 5 sec. to do the "reset". When I press reboot system, it reboots the phone, but nothing even changes XD.
I also tried, flashing new ROM, it says that is all done, but when I restart the phone, it just came back on the previous state that it was before. The other funny thing is that, the phone keeps go back, on the same date (~20. February 2017). I fix it manually in the Date and Time settings. I also tried in CWM, to go to Mounts and Storage, and doin' from there format of the SYSTEM, and than flash the ROM, it flash it for 10 sec. Reboot and all the same stuff. I even tried Mount /System and than Format it, i tried to format everything, but without success. It just says the CWM that is done, and nothing else...
Than, i tried to flash the Stock Recovery (it can be flashed from the CWM), it says that it's flashed, than when i try to reboot the phone in the Recovery mod, again it comes back with the CWM, so in fact, nothing has changed in the end. I also connected the phone with the ADB connected to the PC, entered in Fastboot mod, Booted in the STOCK RECOVERY (live boot - to say...), using the commands in the terminal, it successfully boot up the stock recovery, than i tried to do the factory, cash and all usually necessary before flashing the Stock ROM, after that, i flashed the ROM (from the ZIP file, SD card...), again, it was very short time, saying that it was successfully installed, restarted the phone, and imagine it all works good
-\ Nah', just kidding, it is the same thing again, all the same, not even changed the Recovery, the ROM, nothing... I also tried flashing the Custom/Stock ROM thru the commands on the PC, it says DONE on the end, and all the same, nothing...
After all that, i decided to restore the phone with other ROM (to say) in the way to go to the DFU mod (pressing + and - and Power button together), so i enter the phone in Download mod (to say). In that way, once (2 years ago) i recovered my phone from Hard Brick, since i deleted the partitions and all that stuff....
Than, i decided to flash the ROM from the DFU tool (Innos Upgrade Tool) - from here i was following the instructions, and doing all like before. It is connected in the device manager, and detected as DFU android phone (something like that), as it should be. When i try to format the partitions, it just crashes, or when i try to flash the ROM, it went to 100%, and doin' nothin' I even tried to reboot, and all, all over the same thing...
I want to add, that, i remember that on that date ~20. February 2017 When it always return to that date/time over and over again, that on that day, i re-flashed the ROM, because my system started to crash from itself... So by flashing the ROM from CWM only, it works fine, and didn't lost any app, i mean didn't needed to install all apps that i am using...
*The phone is running fine if i don't use it non-stop, i mean if i start to go in my settings, and click too many times, it will just reboot and go back on that date/time state... I am using it only for calling and sending some SMS. Nothing else...
*My 70% of the apps, we're on the SD card moved, trough the Link2SD app (root), so i cannot uninstall the apps that are here, neither i put the SD card IN.... This doesn't matter. But another thing is that, if i for an example took a Photo, add contact in the phone book, send SMS, call someone, after restarting the phone that data/info/sms/photo is not there... It acts like it is in the cash memory, something like that... It just all looses and starts over again, from the same date, and time.
My opinion is that the phone, somehow... that the "NAND" memory chip is death (just an example)... Something like the BIOS CMOS battery on the PC's, that is dead, and cannot keep the changes, after rebooting the phone, so it goes back on that time when it was last time in "good condition".
I really don't need the phone anymore, but it would be nice for an backup option to have it fully functional.
I want to hear your opinions, did you ever met a problem like this before? If you did, what did you did/fixed it?
For me this is kinda funny, because i never had/saw a problem like this before. So i don't know should i cry or laugh around... XD
Thanks.

Lost WiFi and other features after switching from Slot B to Slot A

I am running stock ROM and have bootloader unlocked and TWRP already installed. The phone was rooted without problems. I was getting an error from Super SU, so I looked up how to fix it online and the suggestion was to install an older version and then try to upgrade it. It was hard to find a zip from a legitimate source but once I found it, TWRP did not show the directory I was looking for (this was previously available when I rooted it). This is where I did something stupid and looked around in the settings and found the Slot A / Slot B option. I switched from B to A and the phone got stuck on the boot animation for several minutes after rebooting. I decided to reboot into TWRP and switched the slot back to B. This brought the phone back but WiFi is off by default and whenever I try to turn it on, it doesn't change.
I have seen a couple of other people mention similar issues about losing wifi after a root or changing the slot. What's the fix? I am wondering if there is anything else "broken" after the slot change and if I should do a factory reset (I would hate to do that as I was almost finished setting up this device). I have also received the error message saying "Process System isn't responding" in the settings menu a few times. It also seems like the finger print scanner isn't recognizing fingerprints any more and face unlock isn't working
One possibility is, that SuperSU isn't that compatible anymore. Magisk does a wonderful job and no problems so far. Maybe you should give it a try and switch from using SuperSU to Magisk.

I had the same issue when I first got my 6 when I was playing around with the slots. Also my original TWRP install for some reason would crash and reboot whenever I plugged in the data cable while in TWRP. I ended up flashing back to stock OOS 5.1.5 through fastboot (used the flash-all command) and then reinstalled TWRP and everything has been working great since then.

The instructions I followed already installed Magisk to the phone. I wanted Super SU because some of the other chainfire apps like Liveboot and rooted apps like Titanium backup said Super SU is needed (Titanium said Magisk will work but may not be reliable for some newer versions of the ROM). I can live without liveboot but really need Titanium to reliably transfer data from my older phone.
To be honest I didn't know they did the same thing (magisk and Super SU). I am curious now, what if I factory reset my phone and attempted to install Super SU instead of Magisk this time?
If I do a factory reset (let's say I want it just like it was out of the box and I format the data partition as well), will I need to root the phone again? I am asking because I don't know which part of the instructions I should ignore. I am sure TWRP will already be installed after the reset so I would only need to install the extra apps...
You don't have to format data. Just factory reset it. Then use "fastboot boot twrp.img", don't allow modifications, flash a kernel you want (if you want one - I really recommend ElementalX) and then the latest version of Magisk (16.4 BETA currently). Did so - all fine. And yes: Even Titanium Backup works without any issue with Magisk.
We had similar problems with TWRP on the Razer Phone when it was new. We solved the problem by using the TWRP boot image to flash the stock boot image and then flashing a TWRP zip. I just got the OnePlus 6 yesterday and haven't really messed with it yet but everything sounds the same to me so far.
I read more about TWRP and realized what I was doing wrong when the directory with zip files wasn't showing up. When TWRP showed up I was supposed type in my regular unlock password to decrypt storage. When I did that the folder I was looking for showed up. I made a backup through recovery (which took like an hour, may be because the external flash drive I attached was really slow - and the size of the backup was about 12GB). After that I installed the zip file for Super SU, just to see if it worked - it showed the installation was successful but the app was still missing from the app drawer. Now I wanted to factory reset the device and start over.
I went into wipe and there was nothing listed under the wipe screen. I went into Advanced wipe and wiped whatever was selected by default. The selected items were Dalvik / ART Cache, System, Data. There was also "Internal Storage and USB Storage" that wasn't selected.
I swiped to wipe, it wiped everything. Then asked reboot, I rebooted, got a blank screen with white LED for a long time. When I plugged it into the computer it recognized the device as Qualcomm HS-USB Diagnostics 900E (COM4). I rebooted it by holding Power + Volume Up + Volume Down. I tried to boot into boot loader next. This brought me to another blank screen. The computer still makes a noise when it reboots but screen stays black. The only message that shows up is the one saying boot loader is unlocked. Did I brick my phone? This keeps getting progressively worse.

OK good news! I tried one more time and fast boot showed up. I was able to get into recovery. I have the backup so I will try to restore that. I don't know what to do after that. I am thinking wiping without getting into advanced mode.

When your phone booted straight into that mode with black screen and the led, then you bricked it. Same happened to me 2 days ago. The solution was to use the Msmtool from another thread and it worked great. Just follow the guide. But it will wipe your device. And you have to install oxygenos manually via "local upgrade". If you have a question, just ask
What I ended up doing was restoring from the backup I had. This was the "bad backup" without WiFi and broken finger print and facial recognition. After the restore, I did a normal wipe (not advanced). This reset the phone to factory settings. Once I configured WiFi and signed into my Google account, Google offered to recover from a cloud backup of my One Plus - I didn't know Google made these backups. It downloaded all the apps automatically. I don't know yet if I have sign into all of them all over again.
The bad back up saved my ass, I wasn't even planning on making it. I was just testing the backup feature. That's why you should always do a backup, even if the device isn't in ideal configuration.

I rooted my phone with Magisk and installed the 5.1.6 via OTA (and reroot via installed Magisk Manager). So no need to install TWRP so far.
Titanium Backup runs flawlessly with Magisk (already on my OP 3T and my OP 5).
So give Magisk a try, I never had such an easy and reliable update as the one from 5.1.5 to 5.1.6
Helium is a great alternative to titanium.
