Remove and replace the battery. - Sony Xperia XZ3 Guides, News, & Discussion

I guess this guide is correct? It seems like many parts needed to be removed to get to the battery. https://vrm24.com/instructions/how-to-disassemble-sony-xperia-xz3/

There is no assurance that the videos show opening the phone for the first time, so watch the many different tutorials for more information. Improper opening can result in damage to delicate tapes and wires.

I changed in my Sony Xperia XA f3111 and it was easy only 2 pieces of tape holding the battery. There seems to be many parts to take off to get into the battery in this one. But i am handy and carefull. I checked the battery in Accubattery app and the health showed up at 89%. But as in my other threads asking for help about this phone. It always restarts in normal mode without plane mode. In plane mode it works. But not with sim cards. Someone suggested it could be the battery given to little power to the radios handling signals to the sim. The gps also makes the phone to restart.

[HELP] Phone boots up only when cold ?!?!

Hi people,
I have a question, I've been reading these forums a lot but now I have a problem that I don't really understand:
My HTC Trinity that has served me well does not want to boot at normal temeratures 21C - 70F. The akward thing is that if I put it in the freezer for 10 mins, it starts working , doesn't get hot. As it reaches 20+C it freezez or doesn't want to wake up from sleep anymore.
Any ideas as to why this happens it's clearly a hardware fail but what part of it ?
any help would be greatly appreciated.
Maybe it's the battery......did you tried it with other batteries....?
It maybe that you have a poor connection within the phone being affected by thermal expansion. Might also be moisture condensation in your phone (made worse if repeatedly placed in and out of a freezer) that requires drying out.

I'm guessing it's not the battery as when I put it in the freezer I take the battery out. Also, while the phone is off the battery charges normally, without heating up or anything.
The theory of a faulty contact makes more sense but then which one ? I do now have a star shaped screw driver with me (I'm travelling for the moment) but I'll try and open the phone once I get back to a more tinkering friendly environment.
I have put it since in a drawer and it has been waiting for me quietly. In the mean time I bought a Sony Xperia X1 which is an excellent phone. I would still try to fix my trinity, I'd use it exclusively as a GPS if it works.
Any other theories as to why this might happen or what should I do to fix it?
Thanks guys for the useful replies !
When issue occurs will it power up plugged into charger?
As BundyR stated there is a poor connection somewhere. Also known as a "cold solder joint". The trick will be having device apart but still being able to power it up at the same time and start poking around with a toothpick and a magnifying glass starting with the battery contacts and moving on from there.
good day.

[Q] [q] battery charge indicator incorrect after water damge and restore

Hello,
I have searched and searched this forum to find any threads or posts that describe this problem. I have found lots of similar ones, but none like this, so that is why I have started a new thread. If I missed this topic somewhere, I apologize for not having found it.
My wife and I both have Skyrockets (GSII - I727). Stock AT&T ROM (not rooted), but both unlocked. Mine got partially wet last week (toilet incident, would rather not elaborate, but I will answer the first question everyone asks - yes it was a "clean" toilet ) Anyway, I immediately liberally rinsed all ports with alcohol and warmed gently with a hair dryer. After drying I powered up, and everything worked, except the battery percentage display (with a variety of completely fresh and fully charged batteries), would only show in the 50 - 68% charge range, and the phone seemed to die at about the rate one would expect commensurate with those numbers. Put it in a bag of rice for 2 days. No better.
So, after reading here and watching several YouTube videos, I completely disassembled the phone. cleaned all ports, ribbon connectors, mother board, etc. with CRC electrical contact cleaner spray using the spray tube and a very gentle toothbrush. I paid special attention to the micro USB charging port, and all other contacts and circuits that seemed to be related to charging, though I am by no means an electrical engineer or technician, so a lot of it was guesswork. I made sure all was dry and new looking. All contacts intact, no visible corrosion or bridging, and reassembled the phone perfectly (pretty proud of myself for not breaking anything in the process!)
The phone still works great, except for the battery percentage display issue. I have tried everything I've read on this forum about recalibrating the battery meter - discharging fully and then charging up. With the phone on, with the phone off, every permutation I can think of. I tried clearing the cache and rebooting. Still, the maximum the display will read is 68% and that's it, and the phone behaves and dies like it has a battery that is only 68% full, even though I know I am putting 100% charged batteries into it. I have verified this by putting the same batteries into my wife's identical phone and it displays 100%.
If my phone we're lasting as long as it normally would with a fully charged battery, I wouldn't be so bothered by the display being inaccurate, but that is not the case. I've downloaded CPU SPY and some other apps to see if my phone is using an unusual amount of battery resources, but it is not. So, that's the story.
I am not afraid of rooting the phone, and I have no warranties left so I don't care, it's just that from what I've read here on the forum, people with somewhat similar issues have not benefitted from rooting and then running apps or programs that are only available to rooted phones, so I would prefer not to go down that time consuming route, if all I'm going to do is hit another dead end.
So, any suggestions or comments would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.
Best regards,
Ron M.
This may sound dumb, but did you try a factory reset?

Thank you for your post sireniankyle. Not a dumb question at all, and actually the answer is no. I have certainly considered it, but I haven't done it yet for 2 reasons.
The first is that from all the research I've done, trying to find others who had similar experiences (I have yet to find anyone with the IDENTICAL problem), they have all without exception reported that factory reset did not solve their problem.
Second, because of my previous experiences with doing a factory reset, it seems that no matter how well I am backed up, that it turns into a very time consuming process in getting the phone tweaked and with all the applications and setting back to where I had them. So, I've been holding out and saving factory reset as one of the last resorts.
The other last resort is to root the phone, because apparently there are some apps that might be able to reset the battery counter that will only work on a rooted phone. However, again in my research thus far, I haven't identified anyone with a rooted phone with a similar problem who has had succeeded in solving the problem.
Perhaps this weekend if/when I have the time and patience I will attempt one or both of the above. It's just that I have such low expectations of success that am reluctant to start down those paths.
If you, or anyone else on this forum can point to any experiences where these methods actually worked for someone in this same or similar situation, I would very much appreciate if you could direct me to the appropriate thread.
Thanks again very much for your input, and your further assistance and suggestions would be most appreciated.
Best regards,
Ron
No problem. I just try to help out where I can.
I can't say that I have had any of these issues. I understand the issues with backing up, but if you install twrp, you can create an entire backup of your phone. I've done it many times before without issue, and if resetting it doesn't work, you can still go back to your original set up.
It seems like you may be a pioneer in this particular issue. I hope you figure it out. Both for yourself, and for others who have this problem in the future.

Thanks again sireniankyle!
I used to like being a "pioneer", but as I get older now I just want my stuff to work, and don't have the time or the patience to go where no man has gone before Nevertheless, I absolutely hate to admit defeat, and now that you've turned me onto twrp (do I have to root first to use it?), then perhaps that will make the experiment less time consuming, so I may try this weekend if time allows.
In the meantime, the phone continues to function normally in every other way. I simply carry a couple fully charged batteries in my pocket throughout the day, which are of course 100% charged via my wall charger, but show as 58% as soon as I put them in the phone, and then die at approximately the rate one would expect from a 58% charged battery! Weird huh?
Best regards,
Ron
Was given a Skyrocket the other day which suffers from the same kind of problem (had massive water damage), but the battery percentage is stuck at 0%. So of course it will not even boot up. (Fully charged the battery in a wall charger.) Only thing the power button will do is vibrate the haptic feedback given at first power on, no screen activity. Funny thing is it'll go into Download mode perfectly normally and sit on the Odin mode screen till I assume the battery dies. However it will not go into Recovery mode. Plug in a USB charging cord to charge block or a port on a PC and the phone powers on and works perfectly fine, though forever stuck at 0% battery.
So the only thing I can think of to quickly get around this is without solving the problem, if in fact it can be, is to get a charging case. Like such, for example. http://http://www.ebay.com/itm/XPAL-Galaxy-S2-Skyrocket-PowerSkin-Case-i727-Extended-Battery-Gel-Cover-OEM-New-/310903753323 Had one similar before for another model and when installed it shows as if the phone is charging. So in theory will work for me, though powered strictly by the cases battery. Should work for you even better as you'll get the cases battery life then your own 58% worth of battery life. Edit, just realized when the last post was made, you probably have a new phone and moved on by now.
**I'm going to try to craft myself a homemade powered case yet, have tons a batteries kicking about.

S7 - Wont start after battery&camera replacement.

Hi, my situation is; got a galaxy s7, the rear camera was bad, bought a new original one, stripped the phone down, fitted the camera, followed the tutorial (ifixit), put a new battery in at the same time, now rebuilt it all, (without the rear case on so can still easily take it apart again) and it wont turn on, wont go into safe mode, recovery mode, soft reset etc, tried every method, also via usb to my laptop, however it does charge, it comes up on the screen with the green battery icon and the LED light illuminates as if it is charging. Therefore, the screen is not damaged. And as far as i can see, all the connections are back joined onto the motherboard, it just wont boot up.
Also, if this makes any difference, I am running the Superman rom.
Any help would be massively appreciated as I have scowered so many websites searching for someone with a similar issue with a solution and I'm struggling, massively!
Are you sure you have connected the battery as required and no other circuit was touched?
Also, do you have the certainty this "new" battery works? I suggest you do the next 2 things:
1. Take this battery out and connect your old one. this way you can check if the new battery is faulty.
2. If doesn't work, even after inserting again the old battery, take your phone to a local repair center. (probably you messed something up).

I'd start by reversing everything you did until it powers on again, if it still doesn't power on with the old camera module & old battery in then start looking at other things, i'd probably start with the battery though as it is a power issue
The new battery charges and it comes up on my screen showing the green battery image charging so it is being recognised. Tried the old battery and its the same situation. I genuinely believe I didnt accidently short anything and im confident everythinf is where it needs to be. Ive just booked in to go to the samsung shop this weekend so hopefully they manage to find skmething althpugh probably end up costing a daft amount. Thanks for the replies so far

New camera module? Did you remove it to see if it is causing the problem?
I know there are different sensors, and if the wrong one is replaced the camera won't work, not heard about it stopping the phone booting but you never know
Just taken it to the local phone repair shop, lets hope they can find something with it. Keep you updated. Thanks so far.

Change Mate 9 battery to a new one - lose all phone data?

Hi,
My Mate-9 after 3 years of reliable use now has the battery start to swell/get warm when charging so I want to replace it with a new battery ?
** Simple question, after changing battery will I have factory reset the device or will everything be as before which is really what I want? If factory reset what is easiest way to restore everything to how it was?
Thanks

Changed batteries 3 or 4 times on Huawei P9, never lost any data - in fact I always tested booting while the back cover was still opened to make sure all wires were properly connected
If your phone is not rooted (on rooted phone you can use Titanium), then use really excelent stock Backup application (backing up to SD card) or its PC companion HiSuite.
More or less they can backup/restore the same (apps, their settings, general settings, WiFi passwords, contacts, SMS, calls...), but to different media - I prefer to backup to SD card to be always able to restore something if needed without a need to go to PC
IMO, everybody is/must be familiar with Backup app and HiSuite (coming on all Huawei phones, and all versions of EMUI).
With HiSuite you can even upgrade and in some cases downgrade the firmware.
Most of the backup can be even restored to another Huawei phone (model, EMUI version)
For Contacts, Calendar, WhatsApp, Viber and so on, simply use Google account
Huawei Cloud also makes it possible to backup/restore Contacts, Calendar...

Thanks so much, very helpful. I will order new battery today and change it myself.
If I'm not wrong then the battery in our mate 9 is glued to the screen and therfore both have to be replaced at the same time.
Replacing the screen means recalibrating it and therefore a mandatory factory reset, so use Huawei backup or Titanium and you should be fine.

I plan to buy from Lazada and they show how to replace the battery similar to Youtube videos.. shouldn't need a new screen?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iIiEDuW6uNM
Looks like you're right. The official Huawei service center in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia though requires to change the screen also. Happened to my friend who had a faulty battery a couple of years ago and they did it under warranty. Weird that they threw in a brand new screen for free.
Wish you good luck
Frankly speaking, without the proper tools it's harder to remove the back-cover than to remove (un-glue) the battery - because you are replacing battery and you don't care about the old one while you don't want to damage the back cover.
Although, I was even able to un-glue batteries on P9 without damaging them (but on first attempt I broke the flex for loudspeaker and had to replace it, too)
Before doing it, study several YT guides and Web guides like iFixit:
https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Huawei+Mate+9+Battery+Replacement/101289
One guide can show you one small but useful trick, another guide another small trick, etc.
Some guides may even require to disassembly additional parts or cables that are not really necessary to come to the battery
Usually, with the battery kit you get all the needed tools (most important, proper miniature screwdriver) but the provided vacuum suction cups are too small and too weak (it means that you will need to try to pull the back-cover off by screwdriver or something, risking to damage it).
Advice, buy two strong suction cups (one to stick to the front/display, another to the back-cover, it will go like piece of cake) like:
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32991250385.html
I replaced the Mate9 battery OK today. It was very hard to remove as the glue couldn't be removed from battery back, so I slowly forced the battery by leverage apart from frame and the glue eventually gave way. The battery was disconnected from contacts for about 30 minutes as it took that long for me to prize apart the battery without damaging anything. I turned phone on after putting in new battery and everything was running as I left it, so no time wasted reinstalling or recovering any backups needed.
The old battery was swelling baldly and pushed the back case of phone off itself when I took the screws out at the bottom of device case.

S10e froze up visually crashed then started to boot then went black. No charging and no power. Please help!

Hi,
I was just looking at a zoom video and had a lot of apps open in the background and the battery was around 50%. Then my screen froze, then I tapped a bit on the screen and it went black. I tried to soft reset and it vibrated for a second and nothing happened. I let it sit on the charger for a while and nothing. Put it on the portable charger and nothing. Same with trying hard and soft reset. The phone apparently pulls low voltage per UBreakifix. They said they saw 20 phones that had random issues after the last Samsung update including S21's. Mine just installed a few days ago. I have no idea what to do, but need the screen recordings of my relative that died and the voicemails that were exported to sound. Please help! Samsung said could be a short and then said they would replace the motherboard. I want the data not the phone.
Could I just be unlucky and it is simply a battery that died completely? Would the Samsung store be able to flash a new or older firmware without losing the files?
flashing would basically make your device a 'new' device... the only thing that comes to mind to keep your data is salvaging the parts (which would be labor intensive as it's basically re-building a phone by hand while it's not clear which among all the parts is/are defective, and even then the parts need to work smoothly together). If you have auto backup setup for the device, it's possible things like messages are saved.
Other than that, you would have to find professionals who are experienced in data restoration.
Sounds like a bad mobo.
You could try replacing the battery, maybe a C port PCB failure.
Other than that as mentioned by TheNewGuy92, a data recovery specialist. The memory may already be unrecoverable though especially if that chipset is the one that failed.
Always back up critical data redundantly... says us who have already lost databases.

Maybe. When my first S10e (bought a second S10e due to so much trouble with first) suddenly dies (which it has done several times now), I have found temporary success by opening the back cover, removing 8 tiny screws to take out top mid-frame, and disconnecting the battery. After waiting a few minutes, I reconnect the battery, put phone back together, and begin charging. At this point, phone is charging while power'd off, and shows 0% for battery level; even after showing like 80% or higher when it black'd out. Then it showly increases from 0% up, at some point over 50%, I reboot; and it works okay until the next black out.

Try replacing the battery. Maybe a bad battery controller chip.

I ended up paying for data recovery and they swapped over my components on to a donor motherboard. The interesting thing was the phone was dead again once it got to me but they extracted everything to a usb for me.

No that fee was just to have your phone looked at sooner. Still would have been 1200 plus tax for data recovery with donor board.
