Hi, my situation is; got a galaxy s7, the rear camera was bad, bought a new original one, stripped the phone down, fitted the camera, followed the tutorial (ifixit), put a new battery in at the same time, now rebuilt it all, (without the rear case on so can still easily take it apart again) and it wont turn on, wont go into safe mode, recovery mode, soft reset etc, tried every method, also via usb to my laptop, however it does charge, it comes up on the screen with the green battery icon and the LED light illuminates as if it is charging. Therefore, the screen is not damaged. And as far as i can see, all the connections are back joined onto the motherboard, it just wont boot up.
Also, if this makes any difference, I am running the Superman rom.
Any help would be massively appreciated as I have scowered so many websites searching for someone with a similar issue with a solution and I'm struggling, massively!
Are you sure you have connected the battery as required and no other circuit was touched?
Also, do you have the certainty this "new" battery works? I suggest you do the next 2 things:
1. Take this battery out and connect your old one. this way you can check if the new battery is faulty.
2. If doesn't work, even after inserting again the old battery, take your phone to a local repair center. (probably you messed something up).

I'd start by reversing everything you did until it powers on again, if it still doesn't power on with the old camera module & old battery in then start looking at other things, i'd probably start with the battery though as it is a power issue
The new battery charges and it comes up on my screen showing the green battery image charging so it is being recognised. Tried the old battery and its the same situation. I genuinely believe I didnt accidently short anything and im confident everythinf is where it needs to be. Ive just booked in to go to the samsung shop this weekend so hopefully they manage to find skmething althpugh probably end up costing a daft amount. Thanks for the replies so far

New camera module? Did you remove it to see if it is causing the problem?
I know there are different sensors, and if the wrong one is replaced the camera won't work, not heard about it stopping the phone booting but you never know
Just taken it to the local phone repair shop, lets hope they can find something with it. Keep you updated. Thanks so far.

Dear friends,
my nexus 4 is 1 1/2 years old now. while its a great phone the battery now dies too fast. its hardly few hours. always remembering charging is an issue. also the extra portable power has to be used so much frequently.
Its now out of warranty. as one year has passed. i cannot for sure change battery myself. Pls let me know is there any service repair center in your experience where i can get this battery replaced for nexus 4.
I am based out of london and if its in london the better.
kindly advice thank you
I have seen that you can replace the battery yourself if you are careful enough, there are tutorials with step-by-step pictures.. As for the battery, an Optimus G battery will also work, but you must make sure the battery is authentic; I have read that there are lots of counterfeit ones offered online.

hello
I replaced my n4 battery last week with a battery claiming to be genuine from ebay uk.
it was quite easy the tricky part is the adhesive holding the battery down its pretty strong stuff.
When I bought the battery I didn't know if it actually was genuine or not, but after fitting it it appears to work as I remember my n4 working when I first had it.
I would recommend you do it yourself one other thing if the phone has never been opened, the clips for the rear half of the case are difficult to undo, so take care when prying open the back.

Hi,
I live in Holland and I want to buy the original battery.
How is it holding up?
Are you getting more SOT than before?
Thanks in advance!
Hey guys, I ran into some issues after replacing my battery. I bought this one, it look identical to the original I think.
After replacing it, my phone gets the red LED light if I try to hold Power to turn it on. The only way to turn it on is by entering fastboot mode (Power + Vol Down).
The phone would not reboot itself on software commands (ie. rebooting from recovery menu or "fastboot reboot"), the only way is to enter fastboot mode when the phone is off. Secondly, the battery icon does have the lightning charging sign, however the status said it's "Not charging". There is no green charging light. Right now the battery percentage is decreasing as I use the phone.
I am able to transfer files to the phone if I connect it to the computer, I have to assume it is charging even though the phone doesn't update the battery info. I am running fully factory stock firmware, Android 5.0.1.
I wonder if this is an issue with the battery, or if I need to completely drain it or some extra step I need to perform? Thanks.
Nevermind, it was a faulty battery and I'm getting an exchange. I guess they stored it for a so long.

I don't think it's the official one..
you can buy the original one here: http://www.spareslg.com/bateria-lg-e960-nexus-4-lg-optimus-g-e975-eac61898601.html
My N4's battery was starting to expand. I noticed it when the Qi orb charger stopped working and the glass was lifting up on the front left side. I did the replacement myself and it was not too hard. I would suggest watching the YouTube videos a few times over. As for tools, I borrowed the screwdrivers from my office, guitar pics and a hair dryer from my wife. As for how long it took, it was about an hour. You will need a lot of patience with opening the phone and prying out the old one. As for the battery, I figured I would get what I paid for, so I avoided the $10 ones on Amazon and Ebay as there were too many bad reviews there. I was able to buy a brand new (non OEM) one from Radio Shack online and ship it too the store down the street.

I can now get 24hrs up time with light use (stock 5.0.1).
My N4 works great, and he has 2 years old LOL.
Battery works great also :3
So i've been having a lot of issues with my N5 lately, mostly small stuff like general slowness, poor battery life, not surprising on an almost 3 year old phone. I also lose cell service way too frequently (not an issue with my carryer, all my friends are on the same network and are fine). Camera won't focus anymore (though im pretty sure this was my fault, probably broke it while taking it apart). I'm pretty sure the battery connector on my motherboard is damaged. I've had many problems with the battery reading its temperature as -30 C (battery heath "cold"), i've replaced the battery 4 times now and i still get that problem every now and then. Pushing on the connector fixes it temporarily, so im pretty sure some pin is bent slightly out of place and i don't know how to fix that. It recently started having this issue where just moving or bumping the phone the wrong way would cause the phone to shut off. Probably an issue with the battery connector again. I tried fiddling with it but it didn't do much.
The other day i turned it on and the LCD was backlit, but black except for one single vertical white line. Rebooted and it looked normal. Few hours later i got really pissed off with it for shutting off in the middle of an important text and threw it at the wall (not the best idea i know). Screen was already cracked so i didn't really care. Ever since then the LCD has been a real pain in the ass. i can turn the phone on but there's nothing on the screen. Ii get haptic feedback when the Google logo would up, and the notification LED is flashing like i have a message. The backlight is on and pushing hard on the cable connecting the motherboard to the daughter board i can see it start to turn on, (Google logo, few seconds of boot animation) but then back to black (while still backlit).
I can post photos if it would help diagnose/fix this, my phone is my main camera and i don't want to bother anyone if i don't have to.
Anyone know any tricks that might squeeze another mouth out of this dying phone? Any response is appreciated, Thanks!
The issues could have been related to the power button or physical internal damage. My suggestion: replace the screen with a cheap 3rd party screen if the internal components are still working. This will give you more time with your existing phone and allow you to have a working backup.
Hello together,
I have a Z5 (6653) that didn't start anymore and got extremely hot while charging. To be more clear: after connecting the phone to the charger the red LED turned on, then after about 10 seconds later it turned off again. From this moment on the phone's back started to get extremely hot. The source of the heat is about 1cm right and 1 cm down to the back camera (so you can say 1cm diagonal from the camera to the phone middle). Because of this I doubt it has to do with the battery as it should heat the lower two-third and not the upper third of the phone. Maybe the processor is at this place?
I tried to connect the phone in flash mode with the PC and it connected, but disconnected after a few seconds, probably because battery was empty. I repeated this procedure (connecting to charger, disconnecting, reconnecting, connecting to PC) a few days and suddenly the red LED kept on and the phone didn't get hot anymore.
So I charged the phone fully and wanted to start it, but the screen won't turn on anymore. Connecting it to the PC and the Phone drive (MTP) is displayed but empty, because you need to unlock screen. Also I hear the connecting sound of the phone and touch feedback sounds.
I tried the following things:
Xperia Companion Repair
Flashtool flashing newest ROM
Flashtool downgrading to 32.0.A.6.152_R5B (LP ROM)
Nothing helped. Well, the idea it is an hardware issue might be at hand, but maybe there is something else I can try first?
And if it is an Hardware issue, what is the cause? The Display itself? Then why was a single point at the phone back the source of heat and not a large area on the phone front?
A short summary:
Phone gets hot while connected to charger
Battery won't charge (LED indicator turns off after few seconds)
Source of heat is 1cm to the right and down to the back camera; after 2 minutes whole phone is hot and you can't recognize the source
After days of repeating the action (connect to charger, disconnect, connect to PC, connect to charger) it suddenly charged the battery and didn't get hot anymore
Display won't start anymore; still responsive
Tried Xperia Companion Software repair
flashed latest Stock ROM
flashed Lollipop Stock ROM
Phone has locked bootloader and is/was not rooted. I'm grateful for all help!
I guess its a dead screen maybe u droped it and the pins of the screens got ejected from the motherboard.. Ignoring the fact that it was empty of charge and you charged it.
From what i understand that the phone is working but there is no screen.
The best thing u can do is to check a hardware store that is capable of diagnosing the issue.
Im not helping here i know but wanted to share my thoughts..
Gd luck with that.
Thanks for this anyway. But phone didn't drop.
The fact that the phone wasn't charging and got hot instead at the beginning is very irritating. Especially that it wasn't the front but a point at the back near the camera. Is there a way to check if it's a Display issue and not a Mainboard/Processor/other Chip issue?
At least in Germany are a lot of stores that aren't too competent at all. But nobody would tell you, so its very helpful to know as much as possible before going to a store.
I think it might have something to do with the gpu inside the soc? The heat might have burned something inside the mainboard (how hot was it btw, like running intensive apps or even hotter than that?) Another thing that might have happened is the display cable is loose.
I've seen some Z5's screens and they're not that easy to die.
The best thing I can suggest is that you repair it in a trusted shop that lets you observe the repair procedure directly (open the phone, take the parts out, identify the problem).
Good luck with your phone.

I never played any game so it is hard to compare, but I never had a phone in my hands that got this hot before. You didn't get instantly burned touching the phone but it was already inconvenient hot for your fingers/hand.
There might be some trust able stores to find, but I doubt somebody will let you observe it, not even Apple store does. If you see the trick of how to repair it easy and fast, you might do it yourself next time. And it is also a question of the price. If I can buy a used but totally unharmed Z5 for the same price, why should I let it repair?
As far as I could see in Germany repairing Display starts at 99€ for the Z5. Buying display with adhesive would start at 49€. But if they change the Display and it's still broken you have to pay for the Display and also for the mainboard i.e.
To give some context, my S10e (Verizon SM-G970U) decided to boot loop out of nowhere. Since this happened, I have factory reset the phone, no success. I brought it to a local repair shop who said they couldn't fix it. Now I have flashed the phone with Odin and despite the phone being flashed it STILL is boot looping. At this point, I'm assuming something went wrong with the hardware but I don't even know where to start with that. If anyone has any suggestions I would greatly appreciate them.

If it is a hardware issue (which sounds likely), there's an old electronics trick you might try: Power it off, put it in the refridgerator awhile, take it back out and power it on. This has work'd for me with stereo components, for example, as well as a phone. It once revived a hard disk drive long enough for me to capture important data. Oh, but the phone this has brought back for me, an S10e BTW, works only while still cold and has issues with charging while its temperature is low. Still may be worth a try.

Wow, I just did this and to my surprise it worked! Prior to this, I wasn't able to get past the Google sign in page on start up (on good attempts) but now I was able to get it all the way to the homescreen and even install some apps before my battery died. Any idea of what this could mean for the actual hardware? I.e. this means the battery needs to be replaced etc

Great; glad it work'd. Did you attempt to charge it while it was working? Mine actually took charging after warming up only a short time, once. Got it back all the way to 100% charged. But then it quit with dead black screen, and now revives only for a minute or two.
In the old days of individual transistors, we used to turn on a non-working electronic device and blast a shot of freeze spray on various components until the device started working; even with IC (integrated circuit) chips that have lots of transistors. This way, we knew which part needed replacement. But with today's phones, you replace the entire circuit board because the soldering is done by machines; it's too finely detail'd to replace one chip.

I haven't tried charging the phone when it's on. Only when it's off and has returned to room temperature. Seems to me that about an hour in the fridge equals about 5 minutes of screen on time until the phone heats up again.
As for the internal component's you bring up a good point. Even if I were to determine what is causing the issue, I don't have the will/technical know how to buy the parts and do it myself. Outside of just replacing everything, in which I'd just buy a new phone haha.

That's what I did. Look'd at lots of possibilities, ended up buying another S10e.
Hello.
For maybe the 5th time I just took apart my old 3a that my son's been using. I was going to replace the battery, but turned out the battery I'd ordered (OEM and fresh from the wrapper) was bad (puffing up). Needless to say, I didn't replace the battery just now. The old one was managing ok, so definitely wasn't dead. I removed it carefully, so figured I could just reinstall it until I got a better one.
Having put the phone all back together (unfortunately, breaking the cable for the fingerprint sensor along the way, but AFAIK, that would have nothing to do with my problem), I found the phone was bootlooping. Not just that, but once I took it back apart, I found that as soon as I plugged in the battery to the motherboard, it started to boot. Holding any combination of buttons didn't stop the bootlooping. I'm just seeing the start screen (it's rooted) and maybe a flash of the Google logo, then back again. I can't turn it off without unplugging the battery.
So now I don't know what to do with the thing. I thought I'd just put it back together and let it limp along for a while, but suddenly it's hosed. Has anyone else experienced this kind of behavior and found any fix?
Thanks

Never took my Pixel 3a apart, but first thing I'd check would be power button - it might be stuck (always pressed), might be "shorted".

I didn't want to complicate the story, but I did also replace the entire power switch. No matter, it does the same thing with the old power switch, the new power switch, everything connected to the motherboard, or nothing connected at all except the battery. Also, whether or not it's plugged in. IIRC, the battery had over 60% charge when I started this morning, and it's been keeping the phone going for a whole day. I feel like something must be up with the motherboard itself, but don't really know.
Could the touch sensor being broken actually cause this problem? That's the only thing that's different. I don't even know how that cable got broken, as I tried to carefully remove it from the motherboard. But it's done, and to test that theory, I'd have to buy another.

how is power switch connected to the motherboard? Is that connection 100% intact nor damaged? By the way, if fingerprint cable is broken, maybe that connector is damaged too and is causing short circuit?
And can you enter fastboot or recovery mode?
Sorry, this might have gotten buried in my last reply:
it does the same thing with the old power switch, the new power switch, everything connected to the motherboard, or nothing connected at all except the battery

I don't have the broken fingerprint sensor cable attached at all. Tried it once, but figured that was pointless if not counter-productive.
I've also cleaned all the accessory contacts, including the one for the power switch, using 91% isopropyl. The only thing I haven't done, and the last thing I can think to try, is to really hit the motherboard with compressed air, especially the contact for the power/volume switches. I just know it worked fine after taking it apart multiple times, before this last time.
If it's not some damage to or debris in the power-switch connector, at this point I'm thinking the motherboard's gone bad in some other way.
Asked over in iFixIt, and was informed that it may well be that not having the fingerprint sensor attached could cause POST to fail, so I'm going to try a new one and see if that helps.

New fingerprint sensor, per this recommendation. Phone still endlessly bootloops. Seems to be permanently powered on, cannot stay in bootloader/fastboot mode for more than about 2 seconds. The buttons all register -- e.g., if I hold down all 3, the phone goes black, but only until I release them. There seems to be no way to intervene in the problem. I think I may have to give up on this, unless anyone has further suggestions (beyond a new motherboard, since I've already invested too much time and money in it).
