How To Guide T-Mobile OnePlus 9 (LE2117) Stock OOS Android 12 Root Guide & Pre-Patched Images - OnePlus 9

Hello all, I have found a method for T-Mobile users to easily download boot.img files from your device with MSM Readback Mode so you no longer have to wait for TWRP to work for A12 or can stay on Stock OOS if you only want root. I will also include a pre-patched boot.img for those who just want to flash and not go through the whole process, as well as an unpatched boot.img for c.19 if you want to patch it yourself.
Open the MSMDownloadTool for the T-Mobile version.
Login with "other" per usual.
Press F8 to open the Readback Menu select whichever partitions you want to copy. (if you want to backup whole system or just "boot").
In the password field the password is "oneplus".
The copied partitions will go to the root of your "C" drive.
Your all done now. Just patch the image and reboot.

Yeah last week I pulled my modem and persist via this method, but I wasn't sure if those partitions were valid files or not since all the comments I've seen they mention needing to use Partition Manager via root. Either way, no one responded and I received my unlock toke, so I ended up just rooting and using Partition Manager

The files are valid, they’re direct backups from an official tool.

Thank you for the confirmation

Try to say Software Version LE2117_11_C23. But now is LE2117_11_24.
I being reading about OnePlus 9 5G lot. But no one can explain in detail how to root it without risk. I understand a little when you say extract boot.img. But I need to see how you do that with MSM tool. Last time I follow this method I got lost because the MSM tool have already a frimware to flash and install. I can't use that boot.img version. For what I understand, I need to get same boot.img version my phone have. Am looking for LE2117_11_24 (software version) Of Android 12, but I can't find it anywhere. I can downgrade to Android 11 but I need a good guide or video that explain everything. I have windows 11 with MSM tool for OnePlus 9 5G. Qualcomm driver installed, USB driver, and Adb. My phone can be detected with Adb and fastboot, but when I put the phone on Edl mode, MSM tool do not find the phone. Edl only last for 10 sec and reboot. I check divice manager on windows 11 and Qualcomm driver is working. Any Idea or help will be good me. I just don't want to brick the phone. Thanks for answering my question.

What I've just learned over the past 2 days, with MSM and such:
Yes, EDL mode will only be active for about 10 seconds with the MSM Tool, so you must be prepared to hit the "Start" button as soon as you see the connection is Active;
When talking about extracting the "boot.img" , it is discussed in this Post:
safely-convert-regions-includes-t-mobile-as-well-as-restore-the-ability-to-use-oos12-after-using-indian-msm-to-recover-from-a-brick-windows-only.4460859/

T-Mobile IN2017 Root Method?

All of the similar threads just end after a few replies (I think because people didn't have unlocked bootloaders) so I thought I'd try to ask again. I have a T-Mo OP8 (IN2017) on 10.5.22IN55CB. I already have the bootloader unlocked. But all of the root methods I can find need a payload.bin from the stock firmware, and I can't seem to find that. Is there another method or a source for branded firmware? I wasn't sure if I could do it by just booting the TWRP found on this board without flashing the recovery.
TIA.

I booted into TWRP and took a backup of the device. I then transferred the backup to my local PC and took the boot file from the backup, renaming the extension to .img. I then put this boot image on my device and downloaded magisk manager and set magisk manager to install magisk by patching a file. Once completed, I downloaded the patched file to my PC and booted to fastboot. While in fastboot, I flashed the magisk_patched boot image to both boot slots (boot_a, and boot_b). Upon rebooting, I had root. One thing, as soon as you have root, I recommend taking an image of your persist file (for fingerprint) to prevent any issues if the persist partition gets corrupted on your device. Search the forum for instructions on how to do this.
Cheers,
B.D.
You literally don't have to do anything special. Boot TWRP, flash Magisk zip in TWRP, reboot. Done.

I should state one thing that I didn't in my original post. Booting TWRP and flashing that way ONLY works if you are still running Android 10. Since you have a T-Mobile variant, I knew this was a non-issue (we STILL don't have official A11). For those running Android 11, you do have to patch the boot image and flash it like stated above. Also note that this will likely change if we get TWRP on A11. Once we have that working, flashing Magisk from it should work fine.

Following up on this just in case you know anything new. My IN2017 just updated to A11 without any action on my part, and I lost root. Is there a TWRP or patched boot img that you know of for us on TMo now?
There is no working twrp for us on Android 11. I also haven't seen a patched boot image of 11.0.1.3.IN55CB around yet. I have that firmware extracted on my laptop so I could grab the boot image and patch it for you, but I won't be able to do that until later tomorrow. If no one else has it out or if you don't find it before I can get to it, I'll post it up.

Hi, big thanks for this. I'd rather patch the image myself, using a tutorial like this one – https://www.thecustomdroid.com/root-xiaomi-mi-a2-a2-lite-android-pie-magisk/. Where do you get the stock images?
Is this the right place? https://c.mi.com/oc/miuidownload/detail?guide=2 (search for "Mi A2 Lite")
Or this one? https://c.mi.com//miuidownload/detail?device=1700354
Thanks, I figured it out. The newest version can be downloaded at https://c.mi.com/oc/miuidownload/detail?guide=2, extract it using `tar xvzf daisy_global_images_V11.0.18.0.QDLMIXM_20210126.0000.00_10.0_286d778cee.tgz` on Linux and the boot.img is located in the images/ directory. Then you can follow the guide at https://www.thecustomdroid.com/root-xiaomi-mi-a2-a2-lite-android-pie-magisk/ to create the patched image and boot from it.

I managed to find a way. Lol I'm just going to have to squeeze the old brain to to get this done it looks like. Thanks for the tip. The methods provided all require a system dump of stock firmware to patch TWRP for the phones recovery partition. I may have to cross my fingers and flash the generic unofficial boot image TWRP for android 10 and hope it fits lol. There are absolutely no custom fits at the moment. Of course I accepted the security patch update which made this a bit more tricky. QP1A.190711.020. I found a thread talking about almost the same update except it was two digits more than the version I got. It's been 6 or 7 years since I stopped theming for the galaxy s3. Course I was only changing xmls and pngs for custom roms back then. None of my old team are active anymore. Team Venum and team nOObz are long history. I even lost my log in info for my old profile. Anyways. Wish me luck. I'm going to learn how to port and develope this time around.

Can anyone quickly tell me the easiest way to brick this device? My wife will buy me a new phone "when this one stops working"
Did anyone manage to root this device without bricking it? Firmware is not available in the Blu Repo (at least not yet). Our team would love to find a workable method for this phone. We have access to a bunch and want to be able to run Linux Deploy on them and also write app to automatically reboot the phone if the network connectivity is loss.
Hey, I was able to figure out how to deal with this bootloader stuff after many hours of work
Give this thread a look, it pretty much details every step needed to unlock the bootloader: https://forum.hovatek.com/thread-32287.html
Keep in mind that the OP of that thread is using a way older version of fastboot. For me, r26.0.1 worked best:
Windows: https://dl.google.com/android/repository/platform-tools_r26.0.1-windows.zip
Mac: https://dl.google.com/android/repository/platform-tools_r26.0.1-darwin.zip
Linux: https://dl.google.com/android/repository/platform-tools_r26.0.1-linux.zip
The above step is essential as newer versions of fastboot do NOT have the "fastboot flashing unlock_bootloader <bin>" step
again YMMV, but good luck
Me again, 6 hrs after the fact
Trial and Error enabled root on the V50 - follow these steps
1. Unlock bootloader as above
2. Create a custom signed vbmeta https://forum.hovatek.com/thread-32664.html (I used the same .pem from https://forum.hovatek.com/thread-32287.html to do this) - Make sure the VBMETA IS ANDROID 10 despite G0350WW firmware saying it's Android 9
3. Create custom boot with magisk (plenty of instructions to do this online, go with the github instructions)
4. Sign the custom magisk boot with THE SAME PUB KEY FROM STEP 2
5. Flash your new vbmeta and boot onto your phone via fastboot
6. Reboot, hope and pray it turns on
This is what worked for me, but again YMMV.

Android 11 and OOS11 OnePlus 7 Pro

Hello,
I have scoured the forums ever since the update to try and get back to where I was, with TWRP, and a rooted phone. TWRP is not as important as root is.
I saw that there is a way to get root if following these instructions:
Rooting OP7 Pro OOS11
Where can i find instructions to root my phone having Android 11?
forum.xda-developers.com
However, are there any specifics or edge cases I need to be aware of? For example, if I am on the newest update versus the first beta update that rolled around a few months ago? At what point on Android 11 and OOS 11 do these instructions not work?
And I was wondering if someone can please provide some links to make it a bit easier for me (of the boot.img file and other things?), I actually leave the country in a week and so I really want to get this done before I leave, it would really make my life easier
Is there a way I can root without wiping my phone? And if I have to wipe, is there an app similar to Titanium Backup that's reliable that I would be able to use without root and restore some important data of apps?
Thank you!! Any help is appreciated

It's pretty simple. You just need to make sure you flash a patched boot image from the same build your device is on. The OP7 Pro forum is not very organized, and most of the available boot images are gdrive links buried in threads.
If you just so happen to be using the T-Mobile OP7 Pro, then I can help you. Otherwise you'll need to search around for a boot image for your device.
If you can get your hands on a stock boot image, you can copy it to your phone's SD card and use the Magisk Manager app to patch it. It will put the patched boot image in your phone's downloads folder. copy that to your PC and then use fastboot to flash it to your active boot partition

Thank you for the response.
I'm running a OnePlus 7 Pro
Android Version 11
Build Number: Oxygen OS 11.0.1.2.GM31CB
Model: GM1915
Is that the T-Mobile variant?

Yes it is. The boot image linked in this thread is exactly what you need. Flashing boot will not affect your system image or user data.

Thanks!
So after I download this boot image, I flash it using fastboot?
Because TWRP isn't available right?
Then after that, what do I do to root it?
Download the latest magisk?
Do I download the apk or flash that too using fastboot?

Question Nord 2T 5G Full Factory ROM/Firmware with Scatter file for Unbricking

After successfully rooting my Nord 2T by backing up and then patching the stock boot.img I proceeded to patch the inactive slot within Magisk (it was unecessary of me..) and after rebooting entered a loop. Anyone know where I can get the factory ROM? I was on the May patch. Thanks in advance!
I am also looking for the factory OTA image.
How did you get the boot.img exactly?

Good ol SP Flash but I think the backed up images are corrupted hence the need of factory firmware to use it to restore my device.
Apologies I did not realise you still needed the firmware. I have mirrored it here if you still need it May Patch Full ROM

So extracting boot. img from your file won't be enough to do Root right?

You can't extract from the firmware. You must use spflash tool to pull the boot.img from the device (mediatek devices are a bit different to Snapdragon devices)
I'm going to do it today but I had to bring my daughter to the hospital after a fall she had which required stitches.
Once I have it extracted I might write a guide on how to do it with links to all firmware needed and have a thread where we will have both the stock and magisk patched boot.img's available.
Been like 6 weeks and no root on my device, this is the longest I have went without rooting in almost 7 years

Thanks. I rooted mine within a day but went too far with patching the inactive slot via Magisk and now phone is soft bricked. If you are still interested in extracting the boot image for patching then use this tool. I tried to use it to flash the payload.bin but phone still not booting. I even flashed all the extracted images manually in fastbootd. I guess the OTA file doesn't contain all the files needed to restore the device back to its factory state.
Anyone with the full firmware containing the SP Flash Scatter file please share it. You'll be saving everyone else. I bought my phone on a trip and there are no OnePlus repair centers over here so won't be using my phone until I can restore it myself

Hello
Can't you upload this zip file somewhere else?
Each time download is not finished.

Saw you were able to fully extract the payload.bin so could you mirror the files as well..
Issue is now resolved Thanks @Riski3Run and @garylawwd
Alternatively extracting and flashing the payload.bin ALSO works. No need to extract the images just use this beautiful tool

Hi Garylawwd, when I click on the link it displays an empty folder. Can you perhaps reupload the firmware? My device is bricked and I'm unable to find the stock rom and scatter file for CPH2399 :/

Yes I was on the June patch, but I completely messed up my Phone.. can't boot into recovery or fastboot, screen stays black.
When I plug in the phone my computer recognizes it as Mediatek usb port.
When I try to use mtk_gui it is able to connect but it freezes after DA extension and thus I'm unable to read or write anything from or to the device via mtk_gui.
I hope that I can flash the stock firmware via SP flash tool, otherwise I will probably need to send it to OP repairs centre.
But to flash via SP flash tool I do need the firmware + scatter file. ATM I'm unable to find them.
I am unable to create the scatter file via MTKDroid it says --- Unknown ROM structure, backup NOT possible!
