Hi!
I just got my SK4G the other week, and migrated over from a Motorola Milestone. I was using the brilliant 'Tasker' App on my Milestone, and when it came to getting the SK4G, I backed up my tasks and profiles, and am using the same SD card with the Sidekick.
My problem is that while all of the profiles I had set up are working fine, I am unable to create new ones because of the app continuously force closing. Whenever I try to set up a task, as soon as I get to the dialog to choose what actions to run, I get a short vibration, a pause, and then three quick vibrations followed by a force close. The rest of the app functions fine, and the tasks I'd already set up work perfectly.
I have tried:
Uninstalling and reinstalling the app,
Removing my backed up preferences and creating tasks on default settings,
Using a task killer to free up RAM,
Rebooting,
Waiting a few days and trying again,
although nothing is working. I am still unable to use the app, as this unexplainable force closes prevent me from doing anything.
I know what you're thinking, "Go ask the Tasker forums!" but I just thought I would try here, seeing as it's a fairly popular app and the phone is only new I think I would have better chance finding someone who also uses the app on SK4G and might be able to enlighten me or tell me they have the same problem.
So, anyone got any ideas? Anyone using Tasker without problems on SK4G?
When you tried to install it on your SK4g, did you download it from the Market or did you just install the APK from your old phone?
I downloaded it from the market again, although its not impossible that there could have been some app files left behind on the sd card. Do you know what they would look like?
Thanks for helping!
Also, I'm just headed to bed, so don't expect another reply immediately
I've got Tasker working just fine here, that might just be some part of having the old files on your phone. Can you pull off everything that you copied over and try to redownload it from Market to see if that works without an FC?
I'm cleaning out my SD card now, getting rid of any extra Tasker files, and going to try that, although I can't actually uninstall the app. I do it via the market and it still shows up and I can still open it... This is with the SD card mounted and unavailable...
why can't you uninstall it? you should be able to just click uninstall in the applications list? it isn't a system app so there shouldn't be a problem there. also, why is your sdcard mounted but unavailable? that's just confusing. maybe that's why it can't uninstall? if it's installed to your sdcard, maybe it can't get to the application to uninstall it?
Sorry, by 'mounted' I meant to say that I was using the usb mass storage so the SD card was unavailable.
I ended up working out that I had given Tasker some kind of permissions in security settings, and had to disable that to uninstall.
Went through with uninstall, formatted my SD card and tried from scratch with Tasker again. No luck. Have now restored my profiles so I can keep using them until I sort it out.
huh. that's weird. and you reinstalled from market, not from an apk?
Yep! nothing makes sense!
Have you been able to completely uninstall it from your phone through settings?
I did completely uninstall, yes. I then re-downloaded from the market and I'm getting the same thing.
and what exactly are you doing in tasker when it force closes?
I get FC whenever I try to click the + button to add an action to a task.
I also asked the Tasker forums/google groups thing, and they told me to install a beta version, and I have and it fixed everything
So if anyone else has been having these problems just grab the latest beta of Tasker from here:

The reson it fc is cuz u r stopping processes which are need to run for the device to work.......Well I will be honest with you,if ur talking about a task killer....ITS POINT LESS....unless u are a dev and plane to us ur phone for deving....because no matter how much ur stop things well they will just start runing againg and well the appes are waste of space if u want to spot app, go to mune, then apps, manage apps and stop the ones u don't want....
No, Tasker is something completely different - it lets you automate lots of Android things
I rooted my phone tonight, everything went great.
When I restarted my phone and signed in with my account, all of the apps I had on the phone before the root immediately started downloading. For whatever reason, they have all stalled and the market won't work.
I've cleared the cache & data, done a force stop on the market, restarted, taken the battery out and restarted, still, the apps are stuck. Is there a fix for this? Am I the only one who has experienced this?
Did you install any rom after rooting?
I've had this problem as well, and so do many other people. There is what seems to be anecdotal fixes for it. My personal fix that I've become reliant on is leaving the Market open while the download(s) completes, and this seems to work most of the time. I've researched the issue quite a bit and unfortunately it seems to have been relegated to a "oh well, we're rooted and have installed a custom rom, I guess this is an unfortunate consequence that can't be fixed". From cm7 to aosp to the sense based roms, the problem seems to occur on all of them.
If you open up Titanium Backup and run "Market Doctor" it should fix the problem. You may need to restart the phone afterwards, but I can't remember if I usually do or not, lol.
Let me start off by saying Im not a n00b at this stuff by any means...I did however decide to go cell phoneless for a couple years, so Ill admit Im probably way behind on everything, but I usually dont have any problems. I got my S5 brand new around Christmas, it had 4.4.4 already loaded on it. I decided instead of going crazy like I did with my GS2 and Vibrant, wanting to customize every aspect of it, Id keep it simple, root it, debloat it myself and be done with it. I rooted it no problem, but everytime I rebooted my phone Google Maps and S Health would force close repetitively, until I went into the priv-app folder and reinstalled Health Services and same with Google Maps. Theyd work fine until I rebooted then it was a rinse was repeat situation every time. I updated to Lollipop through Odin, Rooted it, same issue, same 2 apps. While its not The worst problem to have, it is very tedious. So for the time being, Im unrooted, and I really hate the 734 apps sprint preloads on their phones, and Id like to change a couple things in the build.prop, but Im going with the less annoying option for now. Anyone else have a similar or even the same issue?
Also I guess I should mention Ive tried doing a full Factory Reset, wiped cache and dalvik, and before I have time to login to sync my accounts to my phone, if its rooted they force close over and over.

Click to collapse
Is this when you are simply rooted? Or after you have debloated? If so, maybe you removed or disabled something important.
I have tried to keep it simple so far as well. I updated to Lollipop OTA. Even though I took the normal OTA update something about the phone was not right. Maybe some old settings or data causing problems. I did a full data wipe and then flashed this stock ROM. It is Deodexed and has a few things removed, but it mostly stock. I also ran the Debload tool included in that thread to rid myself of all of the Sprint apps. The phone has been super stable and smooth.
This happens once its rooted before I remove anything. I learned a long time ago to be careful what I remove, lol. But like I said, once the phone boots up before I even have the chance to set it up S Health and Google Maps force close and continue to do so until I go into the folder I believe its /system/priv-apps/ and reinstall the Health Service and same with Google Maps. and Ive wiped the phone clean, clearing it of any settings. I knew it wouldnt work, but figured I had tried everything else, but I even tried moving them to my external sd. I guess its just one of those things, Ill either figure it out or just keep it unrooted for a while.
That doesnt mean if someone has any ideas I dont want to hear them though.
it's not a big deal, as I can easily reboot to recovery and re-flash root.
however it's getting annoying, and I'm trying to figure out what could be the possible causes that might cause root to "randomly" disappears.
I've tracked down a couple of possible scenarios where root can be lost, due some failed patching of some sort, but it still doesn't explains other cases like when launching a game from the Google Play store, then hanging and after End Task, to find out that Root is gone.
I use an app called Auto Mount along with my 120GB microSD so I can keep all my apps/games running without filling up the built-in storage. I also use Titanium backup and Droid Wall, BusyBox and many other Utility Apps that needs root.
Yet all those are well known trusted apps, so I have no clue what or if anything is being send down from Google Play store to reset root
Recently Google Play have been doing weird things, and needs to often delete the cache / data, so things can be downloaded or updated properly, otherwise you'll get those typical play store error codes.
Anybody else suspect or got an idea what could be causing this issue?
so, after additional test, I noticed anytime I make a change to the blocking rules in DroidWall, it causes the problem after applying the new changes.
Another app that seems to also kills root is CSR racing update by itself, after letting it update, it also kills root.
newer version of CSR does not uses google play to update, also it ignores the blockings in DroidWall
Alot of the issue could be that the way android mounts the SD card it was never made for apps. I will bet that if you stop using auto mount and store the apps an the normal storage you will stop seeing this issue.
Hi. Thought I could get a little help with something. I got my 1+8pro and I rooted it with Magisk only. It was a little tedious but my root check app says it is rooted. I had trouble with my bank apps. One was so stingy that I had to redo the root using a different app name instead of Magisk. Finally got that working. Then I started getting notifications for a system update. Well, in order to update I had to wait until that version was posted on 1+ website so I could download it and patch it in. I finally did that and eventually got everything back up and running with the update. It was tedious and the phone is finally working again, just like I want it to.
About another week later it began nagging me again to do yet another update and I did not want to go through all that all over again. I went into the settings for that system app to disable the notifications but the switch was greyed out, locked in the on position. I live by important notifications and having that up in my notification area constantly is distracting. So I contacted support and asked how to disable the system updates or the notification. They told me to do what I already tried and I had to send them a screenshot showing that it was greyed out. Then they were trying to talk me into resetting my phone which is scary considering it took me many weeks to set everything all up.
So I said "uncle" and ended up going through the update baloney all over again and getting it rooted like before. Tedious. I checked after doing so and the notification setting switch was still greyed out. So, now it started nagging me to update again only this time wants me to go to OS11 which I am certainly not even ready to try as it is still in its infancy and not interested in taking a chance that something stops working properly on the phone.
I have a root uninstaller app on the phone that disables apps, but it is so old that it is no longer supported and apparently doesn't work with this newer Android version like it did on my old phone. It just brought the app over when I transferred everything from the old phone to this new one. It has app disabling features that apparently do not work for this version of Android. So I cannot use it to disable the System Update app. Now, I can probably install the Pro version of Titanium Backup which has an app freeze feature but not sure if it will work after paying for it. So before I do such a thing I wanted to see if there are any other options to maybe get this switch un-greyed so I can block these notifications. I know also that I can clear the cache and data for the app and it stops for a few days, but then I have to keep doing that once or twice a week and that is just a pitb to keep doing. Besides, 1+ said that it shouldn't be greyed out.
Anybody got any ideas for me to try without jeopardizing having to lose it all and start over? If I knew what I was getting into with Magisk, I would have installed TWRP first so I could have backup images to roll back to. But that is an afterthought now. I don't think Titanium Backup can create an actual flash image of the phone like TWRP. Maybe I should start over and just do it right with TWRP, then Magisk in the first place. But I want to leave that as a last resort.
Ideas, thoughts?
Thanks if you can.
