I used to have basically four text input methods on my watch (4 icons): "Draw letters", keyboard , "voice to text" and emoji . Now it has all changed: for options I get "message" (within this message options are : emojis, gboard, (numbers), the mike icon meaning speach to text, voice message forwarding (as voice messge). Is it normal or just accidentally spoiled my settings? Thank you for answering!
Think it maybe you changed the input to Gboard from the Samsung keyboard. Try changing it back to the Samsung keyboard and see if that changes your selections back.

Thank you for your answer. Actually, I did not change the imput method: it is gboard. I've learned from the watch's online user guide that the screen I miss is called text input sreen. It has totally diappeared and I cannot bring it back. I made a factory reset and it has not resolved the issue. Aditionally, I cannot get the input by handwriting option (draw letters one by one) what I don't actually miss. It used to be available from the so called "text input screen". I send some screenshots. Thx
I am using the stock Samsung keyboard and if I want to compose a message (even though I don't because the screen is too small), I have the choice of voice, finger, emoji, text, or numbers. I do not know what Gboard supports since I do not have that loaded.

I am Hungarian and Samsung keyboard supports voice to text imput only in system langue ( no multiple language support). So I should change the OS to Hungaran what I don't want. And if I did I would have to answer English messages using Samsung keyboard. I can still use voice to text with Gboard but it got more complicated and inconvenient especially when driving.

Liking the phone so far, except gesture typing with the android keyboard will not work. I have enabled this in the android keyboard settings, and even tried restarting the phone, with no success. Is this a known issue? Anyone having the same problem?

I have no issue with the app. What is you problem? Is it that when you go to type the regular keyboard is showing? If so hit the globe icon next to the space bar. That will either auto switch to Google Handwriting Input or give you a menu to with the option to choose Google Handwriting Input. If that isn't your problem then please tell us what specific issue you're having.

Sorry, I was not too specific. In the messaging app, or search widget, or any time when the android keyboard pops up, I am unable to use swipe to input text, that is, inputting a word by sliding through the letters. This is in spite of gesture typing being enabled in android keyboard settings. Settings/Language and Input/Android Keyboard/Gesture Typing
Thanks

Oh OK. Yeah it's a known issue. Install the Google Keyboard from the play store. That one works fine.
I've had the Z1, Z2, Z3 and now Z5. I've always been able to add the microphone key during the personalization setup process for the stock Sony keyboard. It seems to be missing from the setup on the Z5. Any idea why? Any idea how to get it back? Searching led me to old threads which said to enable Google Voice under Language and Keyboard. The menus may have changed since then but Voice Recognition is enabled there. Thanks for any help, this feature is sorely missed.
So I said F-it and downloaded Swiftkey. During installation where you select a new default keyboard I saw Google Voice Typing and it was unchecked. I checked it, went back to Sony stock keyboard personalization and there was now a toggle to turn on the microphone key. What I don't understand is that under Language and Keyboard there is a menu under Google Voice but no toggle. I feel like in missing something but maybe this conversation with myself will help someone.
You figured it out yourself, but you have to turn on both a keyboard (either xperia or google or other) and google voice typing under Language and keyboard. After that you can add the button to the keyboard you use...
I'm on the Verizon S7 Nougat. So far, it's really nice, but I have noticed that I can no longer choose a default keyboard like you could before in the settings.
In the Verizon S7 Nougat, there is Settings->Language and Input->Virtual Keyboard.
From there, it lists the keyboards (such as Google voice typing, GBoard, Samsung keyboard, SwiftKey Keyboard) and then a Manage Keyboards item.
Selecting any of the keyboards takes me to the settings section for that keyboard, but nowhere is there a way to set it as the default keyboard.
If I select "Manage Keyboards", each keyboard is listed with a toggle switch. The only way I can switch to another keyboard is to toggle off all the other keyboards, and toggle on the keyboard I want to use.
Is this the same for non-VZW S7s on Nougat?
I did a search from the settings screen for "Default Keyboard" and other permutations but there is no such setting in the Nougat version of the VZW S7.
Just curious if this is the same for AT&T, Sprint, etc models under Nougat or that VZW and/or Samsung screwed up?
Uninstall and reinstall SwiftKey, when you first run it it will allow you to set it as default
Yeah, had to do similar thing with my Finacee's AT&T Edge. She had to run G-Board from the app drawer and let it prompt to be set as default after the upgrade.

That's not the problem. The problem is there's. I way to change the default keyboard without going into the Manage keyboards section and turning off the other keyboards. But it does appear to be a common problem across all s7s whether they're on Verizon or not. But thanks for the tip but rather than uninstalling, I'll just turn off the other keyboard in the manage keyboard section when I want to try out other keyboards. Hopefully, they'll fix the issue and give us the ability to easily change the default keyboard like we could in Marshmallow.

I see what you mean, yea they seem to have removed a lot of default app abilities, including setting a default 3rd party video player, there is only browser, contacts, messaging and launcher you can switch between defaults for from the default applications setting
Most people including myself want MX Player as default, no can do, was a bit miffed when I realised that, even disabling all video players apart from MX results in it saying there are no apps that can open this file type when you try opening a video from the gallery

The Verizon version doesn't have that setting anywhere. There isn't any "Default Keyboard" option at all. Sigh. Verizon screwed something up after the Nougat update.
I mistyped... Settings | general management | language and input | default keyboard.
I also installed a keyboard switcher since I use various keyboard for various tasks. Android 7.0, I'm a Verizon customer.
My partner's S6 has recently received the update to 7 from 6, and she dislikes the whole new style of the Samsung interface and the way the phone behaves.
I believe that most of this can be overcome, but the thing that seems to be bugging her the most is the keyboard change on the Internet browser.
All of the other keyboard on the phone show the "predictive text" bar, and when you press the "period / comma" button is allows you to choose your punctuation for that instance.
HOWEVER, on her phone, there is no predictive text bar, and pressing to add punctuation changes the function of that button to the punctuation you used.
I cannot for the life of me find a way of changing the behaviour or restoring the predictive text bar, and while "install a new keyboard" might see like a viable option, the question still stands of why did they change it!?
I have friends with the S7 and S8 phones that don't have these issues, so I am thinking it is something to the Samsung / EE rom that was installed on her UK phone, or a setting somewhere that I am missing.
Any help is appreciated.
Hello. Using S8+ Verizon with default Message+ app. Google voice typing works fine with the default Samsung keyboard, but when it doesn't quite recognize a word, and I touch the word to correct it, it shows a dark grey box with black letters for the suggested corrections. It is barely readable. I have tried to set the message app, and google voice to defaults, but there has to be a way to change this so the letters are readable.
Hopefully someone knows?
Thx
