[Q] Anyone having issues with Gesture Typing? - Onetouch Idol 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Liking the phone so far, except gesture typing with the android keyboard will not work. I have enabled this in the android keyboard settings, and even tried restarting the phone, with no success. Is this a known issue? Anyone having the same problem?

I have no issue with the app. What is you problem? Is it that when you go to type the regular keyboard is showing? If so hit the globe icon next to the space bar. That will either auto switch to Google Handwriting Input or give you a menu to with the option to choose Google Handwriting Input. If that isn't your problem then please tell us what specific issue you're having.

Sorry, I was not too specific. In the messaging app, or search widget, or any time when the android keyboard pops up, I am unable to use swipe to input text, that is, inputting a word by sliding through the letters. This is in spite of gesture typing being enabled in android keyboard settings. Settings/Language and Input/Android Keyboard/Gesture Typing
Thanks

Oh OK. Yeah it's a known issue. Install the Google Keyboard from the play store. That one works fine.

[Keyboard] Google voice typing

I disabled this keyboard on my input. However, after each reboot, the keyboard will always appear on keyboard input menu. Amd when I go into my settings, the Google Voice typing is not selected. But once I went into the settings, the input will be disabled for the whole session until the next reboot.
Anyone encounter this?

Choose Input Method Option?

Hey all,
Got my HTC One S yesterday and first thing I went to do was change the keyboard to Smart Keyboard Pro, installed it OK but the usual step of long pressing on any text entry box doesn't bring up the option to choose the input method.
Has this been changed in Sense and I'm just not seeing the option?
Thanks for your help.
Russ
sometimes it will be in the notification bar..
Or just go to settings > Language and keyboard > then select preferred keyboard
Aha! I did have it turned on in settings but quite rightly the input method option now lives in the notification area. Many thanks!
I am using Black Dragon rom and unable to change keyboard also no matter if you set the settings for it.

"Select input keyboard" notification

So I don't know if this is a feature or a bug but I saw that whenever i had the keyboard open i would get a "Select input keyboard" notification (you can see it in the first image). When i open the notifications i get the dialog in the second picture.
So i went straight on disabling all the other keyboards: i disabled Swype and Google app (because of Google Vocal Typing or something like that) from the apps settings so the AOSP keyboard is the only one left (see third image) but again no luck, the notification is still there. I also tried replacing the AOSP keyboard with Google keyboard and ensuring that it was the only one active but it still didn't work. Is this standard Android behavior? Or possibly an Alcatel bug? A bug in my software? That thing is annoying as hell.

I get that dialog when I press a small button to the right of the nav bar (it only appears when the keyboard pops up). Did you try to longpress the notification and then press the "i" symbol, then disable notifications from that source?
I always get that dialog, even with only one keyboard app installed/enabled, so that's not normal.
By the way, i tried disabling the notification but since it comes from Android System itself it cannot be disabled but only set to priority mode.
It drove me crazy for a bit cause I'm a little OCD with my screen, but I just ignore it now.

After Nougat update, can anyone else change default keyboard?

I'm on the Verizon S7 Nougat. So far, it's really nice, but I have noticed that I can no longer choose a default keyboard like you could before in the settings.
In the Verizon S7 Nougat, there is Settings->Language and Input->Virtual Keyboard.
From there, it lists the keyboards (such as Google voice typing, GBoard, Samsung keyboard, SwiftKey Keyboard) and then a Manage Keyboards item.
Selecting any of the keyboards takes me to the settings section for that keyboard, but nowhere is there a way to set it as the default keyboard.
If I select "Manage Keyboards", each keyboard is listed with a toggle switch. The only way I can switch to another keyboard is to toggle off all the other keyboards, and toggle on the keyboard I want to use.
Is this the same for non-VZW S7s on Nougat?
I did a search from the settings screen for "Default Keyboard" and other permutations but there is no such setting in the Nougat version of the VZW S7.
Just curious if this is the same for AT&T, Sprint, etc models under Nougat or that VZW and/or Samsung screwed up?
Uninstall and reinstall SwiftKey, when you first run it it will allow you to set it as default
Yeah, had to do similar thing with my Finacee's AT&T Edge. She had to run G-Board from the app drawer and let it prompt to be set as default after the upgrade.

That's not the problem. The problem is there's. I way to change the default keyboard without going into the Manage keyboards section and turning off the other keyboards. But it does appear to be a common problem across all s7s whether they're on Verizon or not. But thanks for the tip but rather than uninstalling, I'll just turn off the other keyboard in the manage keyboard section when I want to try out other keyboards. Hopefully, they'll fix the issue and give us the ability to easily change the default keyboard like we could in Marshmallow.

I see what you mean, yea they seem to have removed a lot of default app abilities, including setting a default 3rd party video player, there is only browser, contacts, messaging and launcher you can switch between defaults for from the default applications setting
Most people including myself want MX Player as default, no can do, was a bit miffed when I realised that, even disabling all video players apart from MX results in it saying there are no apps that can open this file type when you try opening a video from the gallery

The Verizon version doesn't have that setting anywhere. There isn't any "Default Keyboard" option at all. Sigh. Verizon screwed something up after the Nougat update.
I mistyped... Settings | general management | language and input | default keyboard.
I also installed a keyboard switcher since I use various keyboard for various tasks. Android 7.0, I'm a Verizon customer.

Issues with AOSP Oreo ROM for OnePlus One

Hey guys,
I have flashed this ROM on my One two days back, and I was hoping that someone from the community could help me out with below issues that I am facing.
1. The default keyboard app keeps displaying a notification while typing, and when I directly press the home button while still typing, the keyboard stays open only. I know there used to be an option to disable this, but could not find the same in this build.
2. I feel that the camera photos are a bit blurred. I did follow the install instructions and have not made a single customization after that. Am I missing something?
Thanks.
Anyone? a little help here please.

You can swipe the notification to the right (see screenshot), press the settings symbol. Then click "all categories", then press the "keyboard section" on the screen that opens. There you can set priority to the lowest. The icon will disappear. The notification will be still there, but the icon not.
I think at the moment there is no "build in" solution on OREO roms.
Hope I could help.
