I am desperately looking for any pre-2016 firmware. OPPO seems to have wiped them from every corner of the web that I have searched. My phone is currently not been rooted, and also has been updated with the 2016 firmware which has removed the ability to access bootloader. Very disappointed with OPPO but my focus now is just trying to root this thing to jump across to CYAN-MOD.
If anyone can point me in the direction of stock firmware from 2015, or an alternative way of unlocking bootloader, I would be forever greatful.
Thank you.
Try the vietnamese oppo forums !
Well... I think we truly have been abandoned by Oppo. Their international forum is down since yesterday (AFAIK)...
There international forum has been dead for months. The moderators who cared jumped ship in around April. And ever since (and even before that) it has absolutely not being managed by any Official Oppo member.
My guess they left because they received some behind the scenes information that Oppo will abandon that forum completely.
They don't care about the community at all.
They have become developer unfriendly.
They haven't released kernel sources for their latest phones at all.
They have not just locked bootloader access but also removed the fastboot binarys.
It was completely shutdown for a couple of days, now came back.
As for forum activity, yeah, it pretty much a ghost town now. I didn't pay that much attention until recently notice how dead the forum has become.
If you do have R7sf device, you might want to look at this tutorial http://forum.xda-developers.com/r7-plus/development/recovery-official-twrp-oppo-r7sf-3-0-2-0-t3358552. A good R7sf tutorial for stock ColorOS firmware. Once you get your bootloader unlocked & twrp installed, you can easily install any latest firmwares then simply install supersu update through twrp to get it rooted.
Here is a link.

According to Sir Zelendel's recommendations and this website's list of top smartphones, I have the four products to choose the refurbished/pre-used smartphones from:
Google Pixel
Samsung Galaxy
One Plus
Honor

So my next query is:
Can the earlier editions/versions of these products also have their bootloaders unlocked/re-locked and be rooted/unrooted?
The explanation behind my brief query in details:
I have assimilated what my teacher here has advised.
I decided that I will buy a 2nd hand, Out-Of-Warranty smartphone for regular use and all sorts of experimentation.
I have been perusing the forum threads. I then searched the forum threads via Google (I know how to ) for better results . Appears that I have found some encouraging posts.

The problem is that people don't leave proper information about whether their problem was solved. This creates problems for the newcomers. They dont have enough guidance.

Skimmed them. A few of them look encouraging. Will take some time to assimilate
I also found that the forum lists the following as the top SmPh:
Samsung Galaxy S9
One Plus 5T
Google Pixel 2
One Plus 5
Samsung Galaxy S8+
I assume that these mobiles can have their bootloader unlocked as well as the OS rooted?
I remember from my earlier lesson that Honor and One Plus 5T are definitely compatible with my plan to experiment.
Since these are new arrivals in the market, I might not find a 2nd hand SmPh from these said models.
So based on your vast experience, please feel free to advise me to go ahead and buy a SmPh in which I could exercise either of the two options: unlock the bootloader and root/unroot the OS.

Just a little clearification. All devices come locked when you open the box. Unlocking the bootloader and rooting it are allowed on those devices and on the One plus devices it doesnt void your warranty. Unlocking and rooting are really easy. a couple of PC commands, and one zip flash and boom you are unlocked and rooted.
Thank you, Sir.
But can those smartphones, that can easily be unrooted and their bootloaders, unlocked, be again re-rooted and bootloaders, locked, after necessary amendments, respectively?
After I have bought one of these devices I shall proceed to seek advice on how to do these.
In the meanwhile, and needless to say, I shall also search the forum posts using Google, for further info.
Thank you, Sir, for replying to the post.

Yes removing root is as simple as flashing a stock rom and then relocking the bootloader with one PC command.
If you have Firefox on PC you can use the XDA search plug in. It is far better then the built in search.

Not all devices can have an unlocked bootloader. The vast majority cant. I have never even heard of that device so I cant say for sure. But is you cant unlock the bootloader with the switch in developer settings and the PC command then you may have a device that you cant unlock the bootloader on.

Yes, Sir. In Linux it is very simple, almost a no-brainer. But I don't know why the Android programmers have made the issue complicated.

In Linux you don't really remove root access. It is still there in the system. Not so on Android due to it being turned off in the kernel and having no built in UI.

Yes, true, we just allow some commands and users to become root, and then remove the root privileges.

This part I don't really understand because of my lack of experience with android.
I am studying android-x86, but I am not making much of a headway.
I would really want to know as to how is it turned off in the Kernel. Which portions of the kernels are removed, or hashed/silenced.
Please create your own thread & post your questions there, Mr.Shivom
A minor request to Mr. Shivom786.
Could you please create your own thread and ask your questions there please? This is my thread where I am seeking advice. Only my advisors are supposed to have posted here. This is an unwritten decency code that is supposed to be maintained in conversations.
I apologise for using the word 'decency' explicitly, Mr. Shivom, and hope that I shall be apologised.
If you have a problem creating a thread I could help you. You could click in xda-developers → General discussion → Questions and Answers, and use the "New Thread" button.
Please don't forget to click the 'Thanks' button below this post if you believe you were helped .
Also depends on your carrier. Like the S7 Edge on T Mobile is locked. Sucks. I'm searching for a new phone but a lot is locked on T Mobile it seems

This is the official FunkyHuawei support thread.
FunkyHuawei is a (mostly) paid service which allows you to do the following:
1. Install the latest system software, even before it's released by OTA.
2. Install beta/prerelease system software, without needing to be a beta tester.
3. Recover a bricked phone.
4. Rebranding / Change the region of your phone (China -> Europe, for example, to get Google and so on.)
5. Enabling dual-sim features on single-sim phones.
6. Root your EMUI 8 phone, even with stock recovery (This feature is free)
--NOTE: SOME OF THESE FEATURES NOT AVAILABLE ON P20 SERIES YET. SEE NEXT POST--
You do not need to unlock your bootloader, or void your warranty to use the service. (except the free rooting feature)
To find FunkyHuawei, please Google it. Or you can find a link to the service as well as our rebranding tool within the following XDA Portal article.
https://www.xda-developers.com/exclusive-att-huawei-mate-10-pro-firmware/
We are pleased to announce FHUnbrickFlashTool -- You can now repair any recent Huawei phone via fastboot, even if you cannot access eRecovery or boot the phone! Even if it doesn't show the Huawei logo, as long as you can get a fastboot connection to your computer, you can recover the phone! Google FHUnbrickFlashTool or check FunkyHuawei's reddit for details.
In cooperation with XDA, FunkyHuawei is offering a free credit to Recognized Developers and Recognized Contributers on XDA.
Please PM me for more details.
We will continue posting in this thread with updates regarding new software versions and releases regarding this device.
We will also be monitoring it so we can help anyone who has issues.
FunkyHuawei, due to popular request, is now offering an unlimited pass. You can break your phone all you want, and turn to FunkyHuawei to unbrick it however many times you need to. You can also install all the latest updates, beta versions, and so on, without worrying about spending credits. You can check out more details on FH's reddit or homepage.
For device-specific information, please see the next post.
Please be sure to read the terms of service as well as the instructions very thoroughly before using the tools, to understand the potential risks of using them.
FunkyHuawei can now offer bootloader unlock codes for all Huawei models (including recent models like P20, P20 Pro, Honor Play, and so on.)
These unlock codes can be provided for free to customers who purchase an unlimited pass from today.
See details from the link on the main page of the site.
P20 and P20 Pro Device Information.
Currently, here is what we support on the P20/P20 Pro series.
Installing new firmware/unbricking via eRecovery: SUPPORTED
Rebranding with unlocked bootloader: AVAILABLE NOW!
Rebranding with locked bootloader: COMING, MIGHT BE A WHILE
Unbricking from fastboot: COMING, MIGHT BE A WHILE
Since it is a new device on a new OS, some things have changed and we need to update some of our methods to fully support it.
Those who would like to test rebranding with an unlocked bootloader before we release it, please contact us.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How much does FunkyHuawei cost?
A: You need to buy credits on the FunkyHuawei website. The price per credit varies depending on the number of credits you buy. Different operations cost different amounts of credits. However, the Root feature of the Mate 10 tool is free, and as mentioned above, Recognized Developers/Contributors of XDA can ask for a free credit.
Q: My phone is bootloader locked, and FRP locked. My bootloader unlock code dosen't work. It won't boot. eRecovery doesn't work. Can you help?
A: Yes. With the Mate 10 this is now a common situation. Contact FunkyHuawei for help in this situation. We'll need to access your computer remotely and the procedure is a little bit complicated, but the phone can be unbricked.
Q: I can't get my bootloader unlock code/don't want to unlock my bootloader, but I want to change my phone to something other than Chinese. Can you help?
A: Yes. Our new FunkyHuawei Rebrand Tool works on recent Huawei phones (Sorry EMUI 8.1 phones not yet supported. Coming soon), to rebrand them to another region even when the bootloader is locked.
Q: I'm not seeing the latest version listed on FunkyHuawei or elsewhere as an OTA. Why not?
A: Huawei has a very odd and unpredictable way of rolling out OTA updates. You can use FunkyHuawei to install the new version immediately, or can wait for the update to be rolled out. It might be a month or more after release until the update reaches your device from Huawei directly. We have no idea why.
Q: Why isn't FunkyHuawei free?
A: Because many of FunkyHuawei's features cost FunkyHuawei money to provide. Features that don't cost FunkyHuawei money to provide, like rooting the Mate 10 or our TWRP build for Mate 9/Oreo, for example, are generally made available for free. There are also bills to pay, kids to put through school, and so on.
Q: I noticed FunkyHuawei in an XDA Portal article!
A: FunkyHuawei loves XDA, and is cooperating with them as much as possible. Recognized Developers and Contributors on the XDA forums are welcome to claim a free credit from FunkyHuawei as well.
Q: I have a different question.
A: This is what this thread is for! Post away!

Yes. But it's possible the phone has an internal secondary IMEI which it simply doesn't show on the settings. We haven't had a way of figuring out exactly how it works IMEI-wise, but both sims do work. It's been this way for generations of Huawei phones.

Unfortunately you are right! @panoRemiks got following quote from ASUS:
Dear ASUS customer,
We checked with our head office and they provided use the following information:
The FOTA server had an update at the end of July. That made Phone and PAD products need to update the unlock tool. We already upload the new unlock tool for Phone products, please refer to the following list. But PAD didn't have the resource to build and test a new unlock tool. Please refer to the following statement. This's a couple of years ago product, we didn't have a further plan to launch the new FW version. And the server has been terminated, that why the unlock tool can't unlock the unit. We suggest you can try other ASUS products that have a similar function.

Hi there -
why is there no developmemt for the Find X2 Neo going on?
Nobody has this device? I have it since a week.
Is it maybe possible to root this device without unlocking the bootloader like installing magisk Manager and let it patch the original boot Image?
THX for Reading this and for replying.
-regards realrobman
Oppo Find X2 Neo is not available in all countries. Sometimes I think OPPO is not very interested to support this device by themselves. If you look at the UK-Supportpage you will find an update from 05/06/2020, at the Australian-Supportpage (and many other countries) from 02/09/2020 aaaand on the German Page you'll become only a description to make updates via OTA.
That could be a reason why nobody is interested to develop for this device.
But I have this Device and it's doing his job.
