Asus support have confirmed that the official unlock tool will no longer work, which explains the network errors running the tool recently.
Customer Service Feedback
Dear Sir/Madam
Due to a recent upgrade to our FOTA servers, old unlockers no longer function as this does not function on new infrasturcture
So we have no method of unlocking bootloader unfortunately.
Kind regards,

Unfortunately "All Devices" seems to mean all current devices, as there are none for any of the transformer series at all. I think we are SOL.

Unfortunately you are right! @panoRemiks got following quote from ASUS:
Dear ASUS customer,
We checked with our head office and they provided use the following information:
The FOTA server had an update at the end of July. That made Phone and PAD products need to update the unlock tool. We already upload the new unlock tool for Phone products, please refer to the following list. But PAD didn't have the resource to build and test a new unlock tool. Please refer to the following statement. This's a couple of years ago product, we didn't have a further plan to launch the new FW version. And the server has been terminated, that why the unlock tool can't unlock the unit. We suggest you can try other ASUS products that have a similar function.

Yes. I believe you have to do a manual update by getting the new firmware off the Asus website.

I like my droid mini so much I went out and got another.
To my good fortune, I discovered this "new" one has SU4.21 !!!
That means the efuse has not been blown and I could bootloader unlock.
The question is, was there ever a free method or is sunshine the only way?
Dreaming of cyanogenmod and twrp on the mini, would be perfect.
aha, motopocalypse by the original researcher Dan Rosenberg

Droid Mini/Maxx is not listed but there is always a tiny chance it will work.
Well NOW there's a free bootloader unlock

No, there isn't. Just like the other 10 motorola device forums you posted this in, this vulnerability is for MSM8974 ONLY, and its not new.

very sorry for the posts, I was excited and genuinely thought this was a new cross-motorola exploit and didn't realize the specifics
8960 is different enough from the 8974 to be immune?
again my apologies
ps. the Droid Razr series was also 8960, how come motopocalype doesn't work on the mini/maxx ?

No worries. I haven't looked into Razr much, but typically these vulnerabilities are quickly patched by Motorola. I would guess that device released after motopocalypse was released or was patched shortly after.

very exciting update
I've been told (very reliably) that a new exploit is on the way and will work on the 8960 pro (ie. mini/maxx/ultra)
unclear if it still requires the SU4 rom from June 2014 vs will work on the newer SU6 patched rom (even sunshine will not work on SU6) but it was verified by directly examining aboot and that the trustzone is only slightly different on the 8960pro vs 8974
(this time I won't post it in a dozen places - I suspect the release will pretty much spread like wildfire on its own)

Will for one your not well informed Motorola is not sending down any more OTA updates for us they told us they were not they left us dead in the water and stuck on 4.4.4. Also you don't have to contact Motorola about bootloader unlocks don't know who told you that and who would take the time all its doing is allowing us to install user made/custom roms and android is open source so its legal.

1. there are plenty of minor updates from SU4 to SU6 that were OTA and it stayed 4.4.4, they are just patches and there could easily be one that makes it SU6-7.4 - are you misunderstanding me that I am saying they are doing something more? What I meant was, if there is a a SU6-7.4 do NOT install it - though we can still always roll back to SU6-7(.0) via RSDlite - the nightmare would be a SU7 that prevents rollback to SU6
2. I assure you there is another bl unlock coming, this is completely confirmed.
I just don't know exactly when he is releasing it and I don't want to pester him - he's already proven he knows darn well what he is doing and is fully capable of producing the unlock and has already done so for other models - the catch is the unlock is not going to be phone specific so someone is going to have to package it for us
You've got me curious now. I haven't seen anyone else release a bootloader unlock in years.

Oh you know who it is, he just did the other one.
He assures me this one will work on far more devices and even inspected the aboot on the droid mini for me - exact quote:
the TrustZone code there is slightly different, but it has a variation on the vulnerability I'm releasing and so it should work more-or-less out of the box

He didn't release a bootloader unlock for "the other one" either. In fact, the POC he did release required an unlocked bootloader, and custom kernel.

I'm not sure what you mean. Motorola sent him a bootloader locked X and he unlocked it. He even shows every step and released the source.
Unless I am completely missing something.

He (re)documented the vulnerability and documented a full exploitation technique(and did a great job). However the code he released can not be used to unlock a production device. The code requires an unlocked bootloader and a custom kernel. If you read the comments on his disclosure page, you will see that.

I'm not implying he's lying it all. The vulnerability he documented is certainly legitimate. I'm just stating you might not get some "clickheretounlock.exe". Somebody might have to do some work to code/package/turn the vulnerability into working unlock solution. Or maybe he will do it.

oh I get that distinct feeling that he does not intend to release an actual executable, for reasons unclear, either legal or less responsibility
but I suspect he is going to lay out the steps pretty clearly and likely some source code and there is enough talent and desire around here to make it happen shortly after that
I cannot get the bootloader unlock code from Huawei. When I fill out the phone info form I get the error "SN and IMEI are mismatched." I've tried both IMEI1 and IMEI2.
Is this because it is the US version? Is there another way to unlock the bootloader?
I am having the same issue. I am very disappointed that they would lock the bootloader on a non-carrier branded phone. I am unable to port certain app data without root which is making it very hard for me to justify keeping the phone vs returning it and going with another brand where root is obtainable.
I'm getting the same error. I emailed them last night about it and just got a reply a little bit ago. They told me that Huawei USA does not provide bootloader unlock codes. Since they're apparently refusing to provide codes for the US version, does anyone know another way to get one?

I doubt that it will work and will ultimately result in a bricked device. Per the FunkyHuawei website:
"Warning: EMUI 8.1 devices are not yet supported. EMUI 8.0 and below only for now."
There is also a warning about the USA version of the Mate 10 (Different phone but same idea) and trying to re-brand to another region.
Rebranding it is not possible (It's an EMUI 8.1 device) and will not help.
I'm highly ticked over this, I'd never bought this phone if I'd known you couldn't unlock it and root it!!!

I am right there with you. I keep trying different departments at Huawei in the hopes someone will provide the bootloader unlock code. I wish the OnePlus 5T (8GB/128GB) was still available b/c I would return this phone and get that one instead. I only bought this one b/c that one was no longer being sold and this phone seemed like the next best choice. They need to have a disclaimer on their store site if they don't intend to allow unlocking for a specific region regardless if they present the option upon logging into my account with them.
That is b/c you didn't register your country as United States. I know this b/c of the URL of the website you used to log into. If you had, you would have been prompted to be redirected to a different site as it won't let you log into that specific URL if you registered with United States. I attempted to register with a different country using another e-mail account but since I already attempted using both IMEI numbers under my United States account it was logged as being not allowed already.
This is Huaweis official reply to this problem!

No. Realme 2 has no fastboot binaries even. Hence, though it has settings to OEM unlock, but apparently you can't flash anything.
Realme 2 will not get support in unlock bootloader..as per realme 2 executive
This is what thier response to me when I contacted them on mail about bootloader unlocking
"Thank you for writing to Realme Customer Service regarding Rooting of the device inquiry.
We would like to bring to your notice that it is not advisable for users to root the device as this will void the warranty of the product. This is in line with the terms and conditions mentioned in our warranty card provided with every product at the time of sale. In this case, the user has to bear the expenses of any repair that the phone may need in the future.
Moreover, we have taken your feedback and shared the same with the concerned team so that they can look into your suggestions.
In case of any further suggestion/inquiry, you can also contact us by calling on our toll-free number 1800-102-2777 from Monday to Sunday, 0900 AM to 0700 PM or you can also reply back to us on the same email."

Oppo-RealMe = Won't allow you to unlock your bootloader!
Best Specs killed by bad OEM+OS!
One of the worst OS I have ever used. Never buying any Oppo family device again. Neitheerthe ROM has any theme manager, nor can we install using its apk from other handsetd. Moreover, we cant hide the Nav bar using adb. No root, no fastboot binaries, hence no custom ROMs. Its firmware has such an extension (*.ofp) which cannot be extracted except the latest version of UFI/Miracle box, which needs you to buy a new hardware not available in my country(wanted to extract boor.img). Still phone has OEM unlock settings under developer options. This is worse than even the latest iphone(which too has nothing and the high price is just for their logo).
Would never recommend anyone to buy any handset having ColorOS ROM.
They will allow to unlock the bootloader as the ceo said they will soon upgrade the ui and will launch there own color os and will also help developer.
