Xperia 5 wont enter recovery - Sony Xperia 5 Questions & Answers

Hello all- I have been trying to enter recovery for an hour now. Power button and vol-, wait until screen starts and release power while holding vol-.
The phone then does one of two things;
The phone boots as normal but into safe mode.
The screen does not even start and while holding the buttons I get a one short vibration followed by 3 quick short vibrations.
The phone goes into fastboot (blue LED) but is never recognized when in the adb/command screen.
Does anyone have any suggestions ??
Thank you, LL13-

[Q] How to boot to Hboot to recover

My HOX is just rebooting over and over I did boot loader unlock with the one all in one app and then flashed a kernel for CM10. I got the boot.img from the zip file as the directions said but now it just boots to HTC screen with red letters then reboots again.
If I could get it to power off and then boot to recovery I could try to flash another ROM or if I could boot to Hboot could try another kernel flash but nothing I do seem to make any difference it just keeps rebooting to HTC screen with red letters saying this is for development purposes.
I tried holding the down volume and power to reset it but does not work tried holding up volume and power to get to Hboot but nothing changes. As long as I hold down the power button it says off but one I let go it comes back on after a few second but volume up does nothing.
Any suggestions?
I got into recovery finally hold down just the volume down with out pressing power
Glad you got it sorted out. For the future, and for benefit of other users, I point out the following: Instances of not being able to get into bootloader are almost always just not knowing the proper button sequence.
If the phone is stuck with screen on, hold and press the power button for 5 seconds or so, until the capacity button flash, then the screen turns off (this should work in virtually all circumstances as long as the screen is on). The moment the screen goes dark, press and hold volume down, and don't let go until the white bootloader screen comes up.
If the phone is "stuck" on, you might be able to press and hold vol down before, or the same time you press power button (then as described above, keep holding vol down until hboot comes up). But if the phone is booted, the timing of this method can be a bit tricky. Press it too soon, and it has the effect of making the volume go down, then to vibrate, instead of the desired effect. Press it too late, and it will probably boot into Safe Mode. But as long as you start holding vol down when the screen is black (before the white HTC boot splash) you should have it right.
If the phone is fully powered off, press volume down, keep holding it. Press the power button for about 3 seconds (don't need to hold it until the capacitive buttons flash). Then release power, don't release vol down yet, until the white bootloader screen comes up. This will only work if "Fast boot" is not selected in Settings>Power.
Many people seem to think you press and release the power button and vol down a the same time, which will only cause you to boot normally, or in Safe Mode, or in your case the boot splash.

Stuck on Nvidia logo.

Hello all,
I recently picked up a Nvidia shield off of Ebay and everything was working fine until yesterday. I was browsing the Play Store when the device turned off and now when I try to boot it will only go as far as the Nvidia logo. I have tried holding down the power and volume down buttons but it only turns off. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Try entering recovery mode and wiping data. Do this:
1. Hold vol. down button for 3 seconds the rapidly press the power button while still pressing vol. down
2.You're in the tablet's bootloader. Navigate down using the volume keys and select "recovery mode". Confirm by pressing power.
3. Select wipe data/factory reset using the vol. keys once again and confirm with the power key.
4. Reboot and see if it works.
Ty for help. I tried that but it just turns off.
Boot into bootloader
Start with shield tablet off.
Then hold down volume down for 3 secs.
Then tap power button and release while keeping volume down pressed.
This should get you in boot loader mode.
Took me a while last night to find out timing that works for me. I always held the power button too long and didn't get into boot loader mode.

Stuck in bootloop, can't get to recovery

I have a Moto G XT1034 that is stuck in a boot loop. I am not able to get to fastboot or recovery, it just keeps rebooting over and over again. It started at about 50% battery, now it's at 0% even though it's been plugged in for most of that time. This device has an unlocked bootloader, is rooted, and has been running kitkat for almost a year. Nothing that I can think of has changed today.
Things I have tried:
Holding vol up + vol down + power for 4 seconds
Holding vol down + power for 4 seconds
Holding power for 120 seconds
Letting the battery drain completely, and then plugging it in. It just starts with the reboot cycle again.
Any ideas?
That doesn't seem right. Try holding volume down and power for longer than 4 seconds.
Here's a video of me holding vol down + power for 120 seconds, as advised in Q28 of this sticky. Doesn't get me to fastboot.
I have a second moto g here, and have swapped the batteries, so the broken one has a fully charged battery. The bootloop continues when fully changed. Video here. Holding vol down + power for a few seconds, or 120 seconds also doesn't do anything when fully charged.

flash costom recovery....using adb fastboot command
Thanks for the replies.
I am not able to power it off. I have found two ways of "powering off" which are to either let the battery drain, or to hold buttons during the black screen part of the boot loop.
If I wait for the black screen part of the boot loop, and quickly press vol down + power, it will stay black as long as I'm holding those buttons. If I hold them for 4 second and release, it then enters the boot loop a few seconds later. If I hold them for 120 seconds and release, it does the same thing a few seconds after releasing.
I am not able to open an adb connection to the device. "adb devices" shows no devices in all phases of the boot loop.
To predict future concerns, I have the proper drivers, and have used adb quite a bit to work with this device. Also I can use adb on the second moto g with no problems. So my pc is set up and configured correctly.

Just remember to acess it when you have time to do all the tutorials that I've linked. Doing it with attention probably will solve your problem;
:good:
BobDiaz thanks for the suggestion. I still can't get to fastboot though, so this never does anything other than "waiting for device" If i plug in my second moto g, of course, then mfastboot works fine once I boot into fastboot.

in black screen you must do vol+power process 2 times..... first time nothing happen... in second time you press the power+ volume down the fastboot menu is shown...
That's very strange. Makes me think there's a hardware problem. The only point I can mention (sure you've tried this, but just to be sure) is to keep it simple: if your phone doesn't reboot after holding the power button down for about 10 seconds (with or without pressing the vol down button), then you almost certainly have hit a hardware issue. Especially if you've taken the lengths of swapping batteries and not seeing a difference.
I know that with my 1st gen Moto G, when I'm stuck in a boot loop after too much mucking around, I just hold vol down and power for ten or so seconds, and then it boots into fastboot mode. That's how the phone was designed. Best of luck.
Correction: the phone shuts down in just over ten seconds, and when it does I let go of the power button but continue holding the volume down key for several more seconds before I reach fastboot. As well, since I'm about to use fastboot, I've always got my phone plugged into USB when I do this. But, I just tried it unplugged, and it worked the same.
Try pulling the battery then holding up on volume and power button and home same time

Hi TracvisTx, T
I just ran into exactly the same issue as you have mentioned here.
After doing downgrade from Lollipop to Kitkat, my moto g is stuck at bootloader warning. It power on's, gets stuck on warning, reboots. Does not charge to more than 0%.
I was wondering if you could come out of this issue and how? I am also unable to enter into fastboot mode! I have tried all the described combinations of power + vol (up/down) buttons.
Please help.
Thanks,
@beerbarfly - Hold vol down (or up) while turning on wall charger.

You said the phone is bootlooping - hold vol down (or up) immediately after reboot.

lost101,
The screen blanks out, then it shows battery charging (0%), then goes to "bootloader unlocked warning" and then back to black screen.
In all this, even if you keep vol + power buttons pressed, nothing happens.
Infact, if it is in blacked-out screen step, and i keep these buttons pressed, it remains in black-out, does not even go to charging screen....
Looks like that is what is called as bricked phone

Only hold either Vol up or down - forget about power button.

boot loop into fastboot or normal mode

On a nexus 5, I cannot boot
into normal mode ---> first screen google boot loop
into fastboot, I see android and I cannot select recovery or other thinks because the phone reboot !
- I also try to boot without internal battery connector and the nexus make the same thinks.
Batterry seem to be ok and charge.
Can someone help me.
Thanks
Do the volume and power buttons work?
At the google screen, the phone reboots or just stays at that screen?
No, volume and power bouttons enter into fastboot. The nexus reboot 2 seconds after.
And in fact I can enter into fastboot just with volume bouton. And I don't think that the power on bouton is broken.
At the google screen, the phone reboots alone.
Sounds like the phone may have a defective power button.
Thanks, You are right, I tested every switch and the power button seams to be defective. In fact all 4 pins are conductive as if the button is pushed.
Oh god, I have to change the button and it's so tiny !
A defective power button is pretty common on the N5.

Honor 8 boot loop - no fastboot no erecovery no dload - is it dead?

I think my phone has gone forever, but I'd like to check here if someone can save it.
I've been using this phone for 3 years, no changes besides OTA updates. Suddenly, screen froze and I held POWER button until it turned off. Then it rebooted and showed honor powered by android in blue background. It shows only that screen for a minute or so and then reboot again. If I hold POWER button, it'll reboot again (it won't turn off). The only combination of keys that produces different result is combo of VOL UP + VOL DOWN + POWER, which will turn screen black, then vibrate and then turn off (if I release keys before it vibrates, it'll start over).
I tried to put dload\UPDATE.APP in sdcard and nothing happened. I also tried all combinations described in a post I found in modaco forum (www[dot]modaco[dot]com/forums/topic/377629-honor-8-button-combinations-clarified/) and I don't get any other result besides what I described before.
Is there any way to fix it??
Did you try to press power and vol- ? When it boot, release power and keep your finger on vol- while connecting to a computer using USB. Normally, you should access to fastboot
EDIT: Oh sorry, in hurry I have not pay attention to the website you quote :'(
