General ***CLOSED*** Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 Review: The S22 Ultra User's Perspective! - Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4

Hi folks,
I have been using the Galaxy Z Flip4 for about 10 days coming from my primary device the S22 Ultra. This is also the main theme of my Z Flip4 review - is this phone good enough to be a primary phone in 2022?
Are the camera & battery on point? We know that the previous 3 generations of flip-foldable phones were bad in this domain.
Those are the main questions that I seek answers too... This Galaxy Z Flip4 review is not the one that focuses on technical details, specifications, those are well covered and well known. I focus more on the practical side, on the human side of things.
Also - the fact that the Flip4 flips in half, is there any real value for an average user, if yes, what is that? But also - what are the negatives in using a flip phone? Hope you will find some answers there.

What's the closest or better competitor (same size & specs) in your opinion?
HTC One Max.
It's a beautiful phone with comparable specs to the Note 3.
Course, that's if you can get over the sealed unit with non removable battery and no memory card slot.

Costs the same as the LG G3 but has no camera lens stabilizer and less memory. Besides... it's made by Oppo!
Oppo = unreliable!
Oppo has a very bad reputation amongst Home Theatre lovers... it's a young company that cuts corners on warranty and tech support.
Looks like LG G3 or another Samsung...
I think the xperia z2 is the closest to the note 3

I made a little matrix and I agree: the Xperia Z2, LG G3, hTC One Max are the closest devices to the Note 3.
Oppo is in a completely different reliability, quality, reputation, brand, etc league. It's like comparing a shoot off between Maradona and Pelé and trying to squeeze in a player from a 3rd level local league only because he can boast o good goal average! Specs alone mean nothing...
 LOL!
But I do appreciate, very much, all the suggestions, including the Oppo. I looked up all these devices and I'm considering the LG G3 and the Experia Z2. In the end the screen size will decide it, I think... Experia Z Ultra is a generation behind the Z2/G3
Last question: does the android community develop for both the One Max, Z2 and G3?
The Note 4 will be announced at the Samsung Unpacked event on 3 september 2014, two days prior to the IFA, in Berlin.
It'll be available in the shops around the last week of September worldwide, and the first or second week of October for the US.
Most high-end devices today have specs near to the Note 3, the only difference lies in the amount of RAM.
OP trust me. If you were using note 3 then only the Note3 itself or Note 4 can meet your expectations. No other phone is worth it.
Let me tell you some of the major faults in current flagships that is like a stab in the back of N3 user if he tries to move away from N3 :
1. HTC M8: low res camera. Boomsound grills placement uncomfortable to pick up calls on left ear. I.E 1/3rd of the grills on the phones left side are not open. You need to carefully see it. Well note also that 2/3rd of the grill holes are not cut out on the bottom boomsound speaker.
2. One Max : Low res camera.
3. Z2 : inconsitant camera photo quality at all but 8MP superior auto. Overheats a lot. Unable to record 4k > 1 min because camera app force closes because of overheat. 4k recording is pretty inconsistent. Sunlight visibility is pathetic.
4. G3 : Beware of this beautifull monster. The contrast ratio is pathetic.. its in 3 digits. Everything will look dull to you as especially you are going from N3 infinite contrast ratio screen. Sunlight visibility is, let's put it this way, screen is not visible in sunlight.
S5: Lesser battery life compared to Note3. Lesser internal memory compared to Note3 , if 32GB version is available then it's ok. Also the dimpled back is no match for N3's professional stylish black leather finish plastic back. Also black N3 has brushed metal look in bezels.
So my suggestion is to wait for N4 or buy another N3.

I read with your post with attention. Thank you, I appreciate the time.
- hTC M8 has a 5" display which is too small for me: I want the 5.7" or more.
- hTC Max One is closer to the N3 in size at 5.9". On the hTC One Max I like the fingerprint security but I don't like the 2GB Vs 3GB RAM... I am constantly at 3/4 RAM usage on my 3GB N3 even using Greenify and Clean Master Apps... so I'm not so sure that 2GB is enough for me... Plus the Snapdragon 600 is a bit slower than the 800 but not really a deal breaker. What is a deal breaker for me is the lower quality display: I went in a shop and on a sunny day the display is invisible! An other problem, as you pointed out, is the images which it takes... overall, not as beautiful on my PC screen as the ones from the N3. So the hTC One Max is out of the contest.
- Z2 has a smaller display so I didn't consider it.
- Z Ultra has a nice size display but not as nice under the sunlight... and Sony won't help me confirm which version runs LTE radios on both band 1 and 3 as I use 2 carriers and I need both bands. So Z Ultra too... bye bye.
- G3 I read your comment:

Trusting you and other reviewers but I do like the Optical Lens stabilizer...
- S5: Display too small
So I agree with you... since my N3 is not working I have 2 options: buy a second hand N3 and wait for the new N4 or send my N3 for repairs to some repair shop as Samsung Hong Kong will not recognize my warranty (4 months old phone).
By the way, can anyone help me to find out which is the country of origin of my phone? Samsung Hong Kong said it's not an HK phone but won't disclose the country of origin which is the only place where I can claim my warranty!
And... beware of the Hong Kong internet shop www.imobilephonex.com!!!
Before purchasing I emailed them asking warranty details and they replied "it is covered by an international warranty".
Problem is that this is false: Samsung HK told me that it is not and to call the seller to obtain warranty. At www.imobilephonex.com a guy called Jacky Ng asked me 300US$ to handle the "international warranty"!

I wish...! but won't be that good as Samsung repeatedly said they won't join in the more MegaPixel race but, rather, go into better lens/flash/etc... 5.9" would be a dream come true!

[Completed] [Q] Best camera option for the Chinese Budget under £200 phone

Hi guys,
I am trying to find out which of the Chinese budget mid- to upper mid range phones that cost lower than £200 has possibly the best camera. I ve read many reviews and I am still confused - many manufacturers just interpolate their cameras from 8 - 13 Mpx that essentially degrades the quality from what I have seen. Also lots of phones field Sony Exmor 214 RS sensor as the bit costlier flagships like OPO, MI4 and such. Such an example is for example ZTE S6 Blade , Jiayu S3 and Zopo Zp920. But lots of pictures I have seen are not satisfying enough.
Here is my other question. Many claim that the quality of the sensor is one thing, but the software that handles it is another. Now, can it just be that many of these phones have inferior software solutions for their cameras ? If so, that can be treatable by downloading 3rd party camera apps or rooting the phone and plugging in some custom ROM, right ? Or am I wrong ?
thanks
Six

I don't think so, performancewise and camerawise I'd wouldn't touch that, there are more better alternatives for the money.
Anyway, after 2 weeks of relentless research and data hunt I have opted for Jiayu S3 Advanced. For couple quid you can also get an external battery charger and spare 3K battery, so I am hoping for a polished experience, it is also root friendly and Lollipop too is on tis way to fully unleash its 64 bit capacity.

[Completed] [Q] Camera phone

hello experts and friends,
I am not a photographer, but loves to capture day to day life moments. Had before Nokia N70, galaxy SII, iphone s4 but now shifted to samsung galaxy e7. Never had any issues with the picture qualities of the phones used before, the pictures were sharp and good quality, but I am very much disappointed with the output quality of the E7, it had to too much barrel distortion, so sold that phone. So guys can you suggest me a good quality mid range camera phone. I have option between samsung galaxy A5, nexus5 or oneplus one.
Dave.
Thank you for using XDA Assist. I'm sorry but that is not the purpose of XDA Assist. You can try asking your questions in the forums for those phones.

Hi!,
I'm currently owner of Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and I'm thinking to switch to P8 Max ? Which one is better in your opinion? TW (lags, freezes, Samsungs bloatware, knox flag wnen rooting) and some Amoled issues (pink white, screen burn-in) are kinda annoying...

no bro just buy mate 8 it is way better than p8max in term off all
i had p8max and note 5
mate 8 is way better and faster and desgin is fantastic
Huawei has potential...but...
Here's the thing,
While Huawei was on to something with the P8Max, any Sony Z Ultra fan was salivating at the prospect/specs of this phone, the phone, much like the company, leaves you wanting.
-Lack of support, no true western development community...support for the phone is well, Chinese. Which is to be expected, given the intended market. But, there's no footing for it. No solid base of people looking to take risks to dev for it. Why? I have no clue.
-The not so premium device. Take your pick of what that means; mid tiered specs, bland UI (although the double tap screenshot is slick), average camera, average headphones, lack of accessory support, bland user forum experience.
This is a premium device in idea/thought. It is not a premium device in reality.
-It is still on 5.1. Let that sink in. This is Huawei's premium device, that is still sitting on 5.1. No I don't want to argue that the Note 4 and 5 were on 5.1 for a long time. Those phones were NOT marketed as premium devices. They were marketed as top business devices. The reviewers, fanboys, consumers tagged it as a premium device. It has premium device status indeed. However, the P8Max, is/was marketed as a premium device. Think about someone giving you VIP tickets to the Playboy mansion. You're stoked and excited to meet Heff, the pool, the...well everything V.I.P. but when you get there you were actually given VIP passes to sideline sidewalk area where you get to see the real VIPs drive into the mansion. That's what Huawei did here.
The phone is a great one off idea that Huawei took a chance on but fell flat by not pushing it as a device worth choosing over an iPhone, Note 4,5 or S6 and providing the reasons why. The VIP program is laughable. As a result the phone was more of a gimmick than a serious piece of hardware. People talk about how huge it is and how dumb people look while making calls from it, they never want the specs, because well who cares. Then there are the cliche joke, you compensating for something guy? You can't read the screen on a regular phone?
It was more of the same, its just like its sibling, the P8 which has the better selfie camera no (because folks just look at numbers.) The Ascend Mate 7 was a healthy compromise/choice over this and its an older stable mate.
So to wrap up. Your Note 4, I had a Note 4 SE 910U, has better specs, better screen, removable battery, better camera, better supports, easier rooting, actual ROM development community, long list of accessory supports, better band support, forums and the list goes on....
The P8Max is a bloody amazing root for Huawei device road map but when you have nothing to compare it to it comes up short and miserably so when you compare it to the other flagships available.
IMHO, stick to a Note.
Huawei 6.8" gimmick is near the end of the course. There marketing team sucks and they have no plans to change their business to compete with Apple and Samsung on the Jailbreak, ROM markets.
Cheers.
As for the Mate 8. Same problem, lack of community. The specs are great if you just want the phone as is and don't plan to do anything but make calls and surf the web. But you're here. Seeing that, you want ROMs and control over customizing your phones.

Can you elaborate please...
How is it faster that the Note 5 and P8Max? Faster to game on? Edit videos? Music? Snap pictures? Type on?
How is better? What does it do better?
Is there something different that we may not know yet or can read on the internet?
Not to be rude but I ordered the Mate 8 and LeTV Max and the old LeTV Max blew the Mate 8 out of the water gaming, video editing on device, and in almost every other department except battery life.
Curious and looking forward to your reply.
Cheers.

No mention of fingerprint sensor?

Some leakers claimed that the Note 20 line would use the Qualcomm 3D Sonic Max fingerprint sensor. Considering how awful the previous fingerprint technology was in S10, Note 10 and S20 lines, I expected Samsung to tout the new and improved tech in Note 20 presentation, yet there was not a single word said about it. Nor can I find any mention of it anywhere yet. This gives me a feeling that they are using the same crappy sensor they've used for the past 2 years. If that's the case, I will not be buying the Note 20, for there is absolutely nothing that frustrates me more about my current S10+ than the fingerprint scanner that only works half the time, only on the 2nd or 3rd try or sometimes refuses to work all together.
Anyone has any knowledge of what's happening on that front?
Samsung's Note 20 ultra webpage just states that the fingerprint reader is ultrasonic. Doesn't mention who manufactured it.
Just watched one of the first hands-on reviews and apparently the 3D Sonic Max fingeeprint sensor that Qualcomm showed off last December did NOT make it into the Note line. I am beyond disappointed, because I feel that the retarded fingerprint scanner Samsung has been using for the past couple of years is the weakest and the most frustrating "feature" of their premium phones. That and the lack of rumored LTPS display along with the 25W "fast" charging are enough for me to skip the Note 20 Ultra, just like it was enough for me to send back the S20+ after a couple of days.
What a letdown! My S10+ is 18 months old at this point and I was so excited reading all the leaks, expecting Note 20 Ultra to fix the biggest painpoints. It did not. I can't justify its price tag, even with a $550 trade-in credit I can get.
I guess I can hang out yet another 6 months, waiting for the S21/S30 or maybe look to a different manufacturer. I feel that over the past couple of years Samsung has been concentrating on all the wrong things and skyrocketing prices are not supported by the level of innovation (or lack thereof).
Guessing new version might be in S21
Do you have a link to the review? thx

Edit: found the correct review
I just watched a review video by Lisa Gade from MobileTech Reviews https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pkMtRzlR-so
She has always complained about how poor the fingerprint scanner was on previous Notes and S-Series devices, but she said the one on the Note 20 Ultra is much improved and had no issues with it. So hopefully we might have a better experience.
.
AFAIK same as note10/s20 1st gen qualcomm ultrasonic sensor.
Two reviews have said it's a lot better than the S20 Ultra. I hope they're right!
This is funny to me because I've had zero problems with the sensor on the galaxy tab s6.
I have zero problems on my Note 10+ since they updated it. Before that, it was crap. I barely have to touch it now.

once i removed the factory screen protector my
note 10 plus worked way better.
with it on Id say it worked 70% of the time the first time, which is much better than my S10 plus was.
I've never had any issues with the FPS on the S10+ (US) but that maybe luck. The S20+ that I've used also had no issues but seems to be faster.
Ultra fps is much better compare to my note 10 plus.
