It's kinda slower but not that much. After trying lots of custom roms on this phone, i think that Emui is the best option. I like Emui 12 features so i'm keeping it.
These are the changes I spotted.

Ram consumption aint that bad. Just dont look at it and you wont care much. Most of the usage are cached apps which will close when more ram is needed.

Have Huawei disabled the System UI Tuner ?
Just pull down the notification shade twice (to expose the Quick Settings menu), then press and hold the cog icon for a few seconds. It will begin to spin, then a little wrench icon will appear next to it—this is your indicator that the System UI Tuner has been enabled.
Yes
There's a Phone Manager that closes background programs, clears caches, etc. That may accomplish some of the same things.

It is completely different.
System UI tuner was removed because of the skin Huawei uses.
Although the 7.0 update adds those settings back in as standard, so hopefully the update will run out to you soon and you'll be able to change icons to your heart's content.
I try not to make it a habit of not resurrecting old threads, but I thought I'd share this because ... well ... no one else has
I was actually searching for a battery tile and found this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.leedroid.shortcutter&hl=en
It not only includes a battery tile, but a tile straight to the System UI Tuner. Win and win!

Hmm, basically none of the ROMs is stable. They all have GPS reboot bug, poor camera and due to no hardware composition support you'll face serious lags in video streaming (especially 60fps videos on YouTube)

for the clock/statusbar thing u can try this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.treydev.msb
for the buttons i would search for something like HW remapper, button remap, etc...
i failed for trying to remap navbar buttons, ... (xposed additions not usable i guess in actual android 7.0 emui 5.)
i'm missing some things too, for example i use "Cool Tools" for display actual date in (on top of) statusbar. look screenshot.

Nope. GPS will give you issues but changing it to Battery Saving mode will fix them. Apart from it, everything works including fingerprint and the smart key button.
(And if you do flash it make sure you flash the latest version of Lineage before flashing crDroid)
I'd say have a try with crDroid.

[Update]: Turns out this is a new feature in MIUI 10 8.10.18 global beta.
To enable go to settings->notifications->show incoming notifications
Please ignore the below.
-------------------------------------------------------------
This is my first post, please don't mind any amateur mistakes.
I was going through the settings and found that turning off MIUI optimisation in developer settings will enable notification icons getting displayed in clock region.
I have tested this in MIUI 10 8.10.18 beta version. It'll be good if few people can test this in stable version and post the results.
Procedure
1) Enable developer options by clicking MIUI version 7 times.
2) go to Additional settings->Developer options.
3) Scroll to the end and disable MIUI optimisation.
Optional
1) Disable notify about high risk features. This will turn off annoying notifications stating to enable MIUI Optimisation.
2) Set the display size to small for better looks.
Below are the screenshots of the settings and the notification icons getting displayed.
Please feel free to comment your opinions.
Cons:
Need to provide app permissions again for few apps.
Some of the UI won't look good (limited to app info and settings app) trade-off
Reserved
Already did it , but still show clock instead of notifications icons?
and also unable to remove high risk feature notification.

I have not done any modifications. Maybe something is wrong.
I'm on 8.10.18 and notifications are displayed normally inside clock region. I didn't fiddle around with any settings, just updated and set up my own region (Croatia), everything is working as it should finally.

Greetings.
Ive updated my mate 9 to emui 9 a few days ago and i found that the swipe notification panel is very big rather than before and i made all the text and font on the smallest size and restarted the mobile with no hope.
Its really big that i cant see more than 3 notification specially if i swiped the whole list down.

If you have root, you can change display density from build.prop from vendor folder. I set 441, it is nice now.

Nope I've the original system. And it's weird as I've used some other mobile with android 9 (not mate9) and the icons were fine.
there is not a workaround to modify it without root this is fugly....

I've tried everything and even adjusted the DPI in the developer mode but nothing is changed in this notification panel … but everything else is getting small except the notification panel … i'm really frustrated.

You need to root and add qemu.sf.lcd_density=xxx to the vendor/build.prop if you want to shrink the systemUI.

Same here. The user interface looks really ugly now. The first thing I always do with my Mate 9 is to change the "Smallest width" in developer options to 520 db. Everything looks fine then except for the notification bar/panel and the navigation bar, which are muuuuch to big in comparison.
I much regret the update to Andoid 9 and even think about buying another phone. Root might be a solution, but what's about side effects like problems with banking apps etc?
Yes it's really annoying and wish that i can go back to android 8.
Same problem I think that this update is a beta version and it is not completed there are many problems like camera and music because I can t play music and open another application at the same time
I hope that Huawei post a new Updates for Mate 9
Since emui 9. I started to hate my phone. Because of this big notification panel. I guess ill be going back to xiaomi again. Much easier to have and customize. Jeeeez.

Hi all.
Today I received the new android p update. But unfortunately differences are little to none.
Have you received the update yet?
Whats your experience with android p on lg g7?
Have you noticed much improvements?
I noticed notifications are little bit different, you have option to minimize those permanent notifications without being able to see them in notification bar. And you get options for fast reply messages form viber... probably some other apps. But it wasn't there before. And Gestures are here. I still use app called Gesture control for this coz I like it more like that. And ofc there is different recent apps look. Looks better. Other than that, everything is same.
I use google sms app and have had the notification and fast reply already.
Unfortunately I am disappointed that lg did not put any time to improve the ui.
What about camera? I do not see any improvements.
I noticed also magnified view when I try to select some text. And in camera there is now cine shot which lets you make some photos with some part moving like animation.
There is probably more of changes that I dont notice. I use nova luncher with custom themes so I knot nothing about UI how it looks like now and can't remember how it looked before.

Cine video was in oreo. But not cine shot. Its not the same thing. Before I was using some apps yo do that.
I updated and my lockscreeen just wouldn't show, its just black and i can't do anything about it.
Do not disturb still don't work auto on for months and the notch was not in my way until now when you pinch in you tube that notch now get in the video as it was just a nice black bar.
Sent from my LM-G710 using XDA Labs
Anyway to get back the old recent apps menu?
