Download MIUI hidden settings activity launcher, and look for radio band mode. It lists all the bands. I did not try the toggles or anything as this is my work phone, but figured I'd share for some that need better service.
Thank you for sharing this. Is there anyone on here that is willing to test this? I was in doubt between the 12s Ultra and the ZTE Axon 40 Ultra. Went for the Axon, but as you can read elsewhere in this forum, that didn't end well.
One of the things that was holding me back on the 12s Ultra, was the lack of Band 20. So if that can be fixed that would help me a lot.
Any Dutch in here that can say something about the effect on service in the Netherlands without the Band 20?
Any info is appreciated, thnx!
Tried it, but to my knowledge it didn't have any effect. At least on Vodafone it didn't. The band support, it's processor related and not software related.
3G support is turned off in NL. So the areas where you don't have 4G (or 5G), you would be getting edge. It's extreme slow to the point that you'll be clawing out your eyes. The districts where I regularly visit are Friesland, Groningen, Drenthe and Overijssel. So the other ones I don't have any knowledge. What I do is search for a free wifi or connect to the KPN or Ziggo hotspots. Overall not a very big problem or annoyance, but something to remember and consider if you live in the Netherlands.

Hi Taghdir6,
Thank you for trying and the extra info. Very useful for me.
If you would determine the percentage of the time you have network issues, what would be your estimation? Do you have indoor issues?
So if I understand correctly, if there isn't 4g coverage on a different band, it switches to band 20 which most of the time is the only band available in the more rural parts? Since the 12s Ultra doesn't support this, only edge is available outside de Randstad? 3g isn't available as well?
Sorry for being such a noob on this matter and thank you! Any reply is appreciated.

I didn't experience any network issues related to reception, but only internet speed. If I'm not mistaken t-mobile is the only provider that hasn't turned 3G support off yet. They will eventually. The other providers don't support 3G anymore. So you're right if you're in an area where there is no support for the frequency, then you will be on edge. In my experience it's not very often. In my case I still have B1, 3 and 7 for 4G support. I still get 4g most of the time, but I did experience a couple of times.that I needed to search something on the internet and I was on edge. So the speed was very very slow. The other times I had 4g so the speed was great.
No indoor issues by the way. Downstairs it's edge most of the times and upstairs it's 4G. Very strange but it's true.
Thnx for the info, again; really appreciate it! One sim will be T-Mobile, one will be KPN. So I think I will be fine most of the time. I think I will go for it. You helped a lot

1) How can I tell if my phone is running on a 3.5G network? I am on T-Mobile in Virginia Beach, VA.
2) I know there are different bands out there for different carriers, so can I change to a band that can get me better 3G coverage? I have slooooow 3G coverage where I am right now.
Any help in the right direction would be awesome, and don't be afraid to dumb it down for me. I am getting pretty savvy on all this phone stuff, but bands still elude me.
Hi
until recently, 3.5G was known as HSPA7.2. If your device shows "H", then your device can use the HSPA (real) speeds.
If so, and your browsing is slow, then this is mainly due to saturation and low signal strength, but exists more factors.
To use another bands, you must change the service provider (and change your device). No manually way to do it.
Best regards

I recently visited Jacksonville Florida where my CM7 Rom showed me I was running on 4g. When I came back home to Virginia Beach it is showing me a H. Stock rom shows me as 4g but CM7 still shows me as H (HSPA). Is this truly telling me that I am operating on 3.5G network here in Virginia Beach?
Ho peeps,
just a quick question. I just moved to 4G but I'm experiencing some funny issues.
On my OPO under "Mobile network settings", I changed Preferred network type from 3G to LTE (recommended) and I got 4G. But, occasionally, all of a sudden I can't make or receive phone calls anymore, even if there is good reception signal. If I change the setting back to 3G, then everything works again. So, I checked the frequencies just in case and the OPO, has we know, has LTE: Bands: 1/3/4/7/17/38/40 and Three UK (my provider) for 4G has 800 MHz (0.8 GHz) and 1800 MHz (1.8 GHz). Granted that I don't know much about frequencies, bands, MHz etc, could anybody confirm that the frequencies that the opo has are fine with the ones that Three has? If that's the case, why the opo occasionally plays up when LTE is selected?
cheers

Unless this has changed recently Three uses 2 bands for LTE(4G). One is Band 3 which the OPO supports which they use it big cities and towns and the other is Band 20 which they use in rural areas which the OPO does not support. I am guessing you are in a Band 20 area at the moment and that is why it is not working.

Well the 4g actually works, sorry maybe I wasn't clear, although it is patchy, but the issue is that often when the 4G is on, the phone doesn't allow incoming and outgoing calls even if there is full reception. When I switch off the 4g back to 3g the phone works again.

Here is something I just found on the subject.
Only two UK carriers offers LTE support with those frequencies: EE (supports band 3 & 7) and Three (supports band 3). Other carriers won't be able to support LTE coverage for the OnePlus One as they operate within band 20, which isn't supported by the phone.
Band 3 has limited usability in weaker signal areas, where it has difficulty penetrating built up areas and the interior of buildings, but it can carry more users. Band 7 (only supported by EE) offers wider coverage, as it can reach further, but cannot support as many users.
If you are an EE consumer, you wont experience any LTE problems. However, if you are a Three consumer (as I am), you may experience problems with LTE coverage, when you get outside of the major cities or in weaker signal areas within cities.
However, as Three offers extensive HSPDA+ coverage (or Advanced 3G (DC‑HSDPA) as they call it), you will still be able to get very fast data speeds (up to 42 Mbps). As Three offers 3G under the 2100MHz you will be able to get this speed with the OnePlus One in major cities and regular 3G in the rest of the UK.

thanks, that's useful, although I still wonder what causes that problem as I had it a few times now (can't make/receive calls when on LTE) as I assume the band won't have anything to do with it. I was hoping to find somebody else with that problem on Three, perhaps it is just a Three thing...
I'm on Three and I either get LTE (mainly London where I work) or H+. Either way I've never struggled, as far as I know, to receive phone calls or texts. Worried now though

I am having the same problem, have tried different serivce provider sims in my phone and they work fine, just the three sim, which I can't change as I am in a contract with them, and OPO customer service is horrendous! I have tried the sim in another phone and it works fine. I have tried to chnge to 3G only, but all the three sims are 4G enabled, so when I select the Three 3G network, the phone wont register on it, I can only register on the 4G network. I have tried installing CM11, CM12, Paranoid Android, OxygenOS and had no effect, tried safe mode, tried rooting the phone, and still no effect.
Really need a solution to this, but not finding any
To be honest this problem happens at random, at least for me, so it's difficult to find the exact cause. Touch wood I haven't had it for about a month now, but like I said, and from previous experience, it could happen anytime. Read what flumpster has found in the previous post. As for a solution, I'm not sure what to say, other than switch to 3G, wait for the 3g network to pick up and then switch back to LTE, (you might need to repeat this a couple of times if it doesn't work) that fixes it, at least temporarily.

I am currently in Levant Maine visiting my wife's family. I was so excited because I thought I could finally test T-Mobiles 600mhz spectrum! Though I have not noticed any better service through out our travels and in some cases worse than my wife who has a iPhone 7. T-Mobile shows there is customer verified band 71 coverage where I am, yet I have zero service... what gives? I there something I need to do to activate it? (might sound stupid but I'm desperate!)

A quick Google search reveals that this band is kinda shiiite
https://www.pcmag.com/news/361295/heres-where-you-need-a-band-71-phone-to-boost-t-mobile-cove
Sorry don't see how that link makes the band out to be ****... it has not been fully rolled out and visit far from it's full potential. There have been lots of users who verified drastic changes in coverage in the areas they have added the the 600mhz spectrum.
Also, my question is in regards to whether or not there is something I need to do to utilize the new band on a OnePlus 6, as I am not seeing any service in an are that has been verified by several T-Mobile customers to be fully covered by the 600mhz network. But thanks for your input?
There is nothing you need to do to utilize it, Take a look at t-mobile's service area map to be sure it's exactly in your area. I assumed it was in my are but I found it is actually only in more rural areas of my state.
How are you checking if you are using band 71? I recommend an app called LTE Discovery.
Also I think you are expecting too much from it. Band 71 will increase coverage and building penetration, But you shouldn't expect big jumps in speed unless you are in area where your service is marginal without it.
I don't really care about speed at this point . It's just that I'm sitting right on top of areas confirmed by customer to be covered by it, but I have absolutely no service at all. Also based on the T-Mobile map this area should be well blanketed by 600 mhz... I doubt their map is 100% accurate but ive got nothing at all..

Perhaps Network Cell Info from the Play Store will give you some idea of the signals in your area. I use it frequently on my OP6 and used it often on my N6 and N6p in the past to get an idea of signals/sites. There is a free version and an inexpensive paid version.
edit: Root is not required.
So if you have zero service, and not just unable to use band 71 then I would say check you apn settings.
https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-2090
If everything matches and still no service I would go to t-mobile location and get a new SIM.
Again this is all of you have NO service and not just trying to force band 71.
As t-mobile doesn't directly support Oneplus devices and claim Oneplus is difficult to work with, will offer very little help to you regarding getting band 71 over whatever band is prevalent in the area
I have Mint Mobile, which is a T-Mobile MVNO, and I can access band 71 in southeast Maine. Check Cellmapper to make sure that band 71 is actually live and it's not just an error on T-Mobile's coverage map. I've realized that band 71 isn't really that much better than band 2 from a coverage perspective, as I monitor my signal and once I switch from very weak band 2 to band 71, the signal just drops out seconds later. A lot of the areas that claim to be covered by band 71 on their map I get 0 signal in.
The OnePlus 6 has band 71 which is T-Mobile's new band. I read that the future 6T will have a version sold through T-Mobile that is"optimized for TMobile." I'm curious what is meant by optimized for TMobile. Any thoughts?
I'm very interested in this, but I've never owned a one plus device. One question that I have for one plus owners is how fast does one plus update their os to the newest android version? I know you can have P beta on the 6 which is really quick. Has it always been like this? And do you think since this phone will be on tmobile, would that make the update slower then the global version?
All it means is t-mobile will tweak the modem. And as for band 71 unless you are in a rural area don't expect much from it. It won't give you amazing speed it willl allow for better signal in buildings and other areas that cause signal difficulties.

Well, I don't live in a rural area, but I did start working in a rural area, and my tmobile sucks, but I did notice there's some tmobile network that I can't access. I'm only allowed to be in their partners network. I wonder if that tmobile network is band 71. I currently have a s7 edge. Is there anyway to find out if that's really band 71?

It's possible that it is, but since you can't connect only way to check is t-mobiles map or call them and ask if it's in the area they won't mind, but may be in hold a while.
The OP6 will connect to 71, I have when passing thru area that had it.
And main reason it's rural areas right now is that's where they've been able to get the tvv stains to clear the bandwidth first and where it's most needed.
Should start to see it Lot more in bigger cities next year. T-Mobile working with them to speed it up
Hi Members
I'm based in UK (North West London), my network is 3 uk, and my mobile 3 data is my only source for getting on the net I don't have home broadband.
I would like to buy the Asus ZenFone 7 Pro but have checked that it's missing one of the 4G frequency bands that 3 uses, it's band 32.
The phone does cover the rest of 3's frequency bands.
Are ther users or knowledgeable members here, who know if this phone will still work to it's full signal connection using the other frequency bands it has, or is it that the coverage of the phone could not be good in my area because it's missing the 4G band 32?
Thanks for any advice, or help.
Regards
I did s bit more searching, and for anyone out there with the same question, I think the answer is not good.
It appears that the 4G requency band 32 is essential for providing a good signal for 3's 4G data, as it seems it was especially acquired to resolve low data transmission in built up areas, see link below for details
https://www.ispreview.co.uk/index.p...nd-rollout-and-recycle-3g-spectrum-to-4g.html
So it's not an ideal phone to go with, given the missing frequency band coverage in the phone
And here's another link for useful related info...
https://kenstechtips.com/index.php/uk-network-frequency-bands
Mine seems fine.
I have a ZenFone 7, and am on the Smarty network, which I believe runs on the three network. Once not noticed any issues in my area (West Yorkshire), but I guess this may be an issue some places.
