I don't like the Mi Messages app that came with the phone so I installed Google Messages of course and set it as the default SMS app - but it always pops up "Failed to start conversation please try again later". In the Google Messages settings it says "No Compatible SIM card detected".
Noteworthy i can make phone calls just fine and in SIM settings it shows the KOODO sim card and phone number - somehow the Google messages app is struggling to detect it - is there anything I can do?
I've tried basic things like cache clearing or phone rebooting
Note - I figured this out but cannot delete thread
Browsing other threads here i found others discussing similar problem - I manually assigned some permission to the app and it seems to be working now

I had a problem with the stock msg app going into a continueoues looping resending a text because it was reprtoing that the number was incorrect.
So:
1. I couldn't find this, but is there a way to NOT have it resend on an error
2. If I load on any msg app, is there a way to disable this msg app?
3. any other options anybody can provide??
Thanks
I found this in another phone thread, so I guess this is how to disable the stock if I gho that route..
Open messages and hit menu. Uncheck received notification.
Very strange and anoying. I disabled the stock app, installed handcent set the settings where I thought it doesn't resend on error nd then it starting sending the same msg over and over that the stock one was sending.
FYI - msg is:
2288 error invalid number, please re-send using valid 10 digit number or short code. how can i clear out this msg or have my msg app stop sending it???
update, I did a search and found a number of peiople reporting this problem on other phones but no reported fixes related to this phone. So stuck right now with handcent uninstalled, it continued to resend the stupid msg even with the data off. So back to stock with data off, so NO text functionality at this time unles I can figure out how to clear. reset was suggested on the phone, but that will blow alot of instal apps and data away. so last resort..
EDIT: the last resort didn't work, factory reset and after reboot the d&*n text started up again... I don't under stand how it can send/receive text with no network setup... fyi - I using the phone on a at&t pre-paid network. The 3GS worked great, this phone has issues and thsi is the biggest one.
hi guys,
I enabled Voice+ during the initial setup but quickly realized I now cannot send any SMS out of the phone. (my Carrier number tied to GV is different from my current carrier number.)
I've read up on it and HAVE tried the following-
- Disable Voice+ in Settings>Wireless Networks>More>Voice+
- Uninstall Google Voice app
- Deleted Google Voice cache and app data in Settings>App>All apps
- Deleted app data and force stop Voice+ in Settings>App>All apps
restarted again and again. Yet I still cannot send any SMS out of the phone.
Calling out and receiving calls work fine however. Receiving SMS also works.
I've run out of options and the final solution I realize is to wipe the phone and start a new but this time ignore when they ask for Voice+. However, I would prefer if there was a way to completely wipe or uninstall Voice+, and only Voice+, as an individual app within CM11.
Any other users who experienced the same problem are also welcomed to share your steps to solving this issue.
- EDIT : Problem Solved, Solution below-
So after hours of searching and troubleshooting, I finally gave up and factory reset the phone from Recovery. After setting it back to how it was before without installing Google Voice and without enabling Voice+, SMS STILL WOULDN'T SEND!!
Now I figure the problem might be something else, I switched SIM card back to my old phone and sure enough, SMS would not send.
Then I went into *#*#4636#*#* and checked the SMSC, Googled my carrier's SMSC and change it to that, hit Update, Refresh, Reboot.
Works just as it should now. Turns out, SMSC (short message service center) number was messed up somehow, I might have changed it to something else in the beginning of troubleshooting this issue before disabling and uninstalling the apps.
Protip/TLDR : Google YOUR carrier's SMSC number and change it to that if you're having a problem like mine.
Cheers, Problem solved. Please close thread.
I have the Mate 9, but Android Messages will not function properly on it. It will only show "Unknown Sender" and will not allow me to reply to messages.
At the bottom, it says "Sender does not allow replies". Anybody else have this issue?
same here. aching for the fix!
i had same problem, switched to Textra app and I love it.
I was having a similar problem with my daughter (using a Samsung Active). Her messages frequently arrived as Unknown Sender, and in group MMS messages her messages would never download. Frequently her simple SMS texts to me would show as "Download Failed". So I switched to Textra and that resolved the issue, but I wasn't happy that I could not use the stock Message program or Android Messages. I called AT&T and they re-provisioned my Mate 9 on the account, and I reset the APN to Default in Settings and now everything works fine. Odd to say the least, but at least it works now.
Yancy
Not talking about mms.
ALL messages are from unknown sender
If rooted, have you tried freezing the stock SMS app? Did you restore your SMS from an application?
Sent from my MHA-L29 using Tapatalk
Not rooted. All other sms apps work fine.
There is another thread where I answered this question. Do NOT download Google messenger from the play store. For some odd reason it doesn't work. You have to go to apk mirror and download the apk from there. The only way to get rid of unknown sender is to delete all texts and start over with a fresh install from apk mirror. It fixed the MMS problems as well. I don't know why you have to do it. You just do.
So far I got the app to work. First, I downloaded it from the Play Store. Then I deleted my messages. Afterwards, I restarted the phone then it started working.
Bad thing is messages won't appear even after backing them up.
Hello,
I am trying to copy a messaging/voip app from my old phone. I used APK Extractor to copy the app.
The problem is with the app's login info. When I launch the app on my old phone, I get a message that the account is inactive and I need to contact customer services. But the app then works, I can make calls and check the credit remaining etc.
When I enter the account details (login and password, identical to the ones that are logged on on my old phone) in my new phone I get an invalid account message.
In fact the account is dormant, but still works. So obviously I don't want to contact the service provider.
The problem is not to retrieve the login details - I already have those - but how to flag the app as logged in.
Anyone have any ideas?
OK, I managed to solve the problem. I'll post it, in case it helps anyone else.
It turns out that the manual log in works if there is no SIM card present in the phone.
If a SIM card is present, the Freedompop app finds that either it is not a Freedompop SIM, or that it is an inactive SIM, so refuses to log in. If there is no SIM card present (for any operator), then the manual log in works.
Got a weird one here for you guys. My ATT Note 8 will not display the contact information when someone calls. If I do not answer the phone it will display a notification that I missed a call from that person (displaying the name). I have checked everything I can think of.
I've tried rebooting and toggling "only display contacts w/ names" (was recommended from a Google search). When it is paired to my company truck it displays the names on the radio as normal but only the number is displayed on the phone. I cleared the cache and data from my Google account. Removed the Google account and redone it. Toggled everything possible in the dialer settings.
When ringing it displays only the number with a button below it that says "add to contacts" but when you go to call history it displays the correct contact information.
The only thing I have not done, yet, is a factory reset.
Anyone had this issue or know how to fix it?
Anyone?
I've had the same issue.... Hope we can find a fix....
Have y'all tried the settings in the phone app (green phone icon)? There's a setting under "other settings" that says show contact info. Mine was on by default so I i don't know why it would be turned off.
Hope this help
Had a same issue. i am from India and i deleted the vodafone applications and boom it was solved.
could be similar issue. go to any phone number in your contacts and see which apps have use the permission and try deleting those apps.
