Question 2G on A13 - Google Pixel 6a

Can anyone who has already upgraded a Pixel 6a to A13 tell me if the "Allow 2G" option is still available in Settings-->Networks-->SIMs ?
Some people on twitter are saying that they cannot set 2G as a "preferred" network anymore, not sure what it implies.

The option is still here yes. However, you can't set 2G as the preferred network type.

Try this..
Open Dialer
type :- *#*#4636#*#*
Click on Phone info
Select Preferred Network type & Scroll Down & select "GSM Only"

Thank you guys.
Current situation is bizarre for me. I need 2G working for voice only. My carrier is switching 3G off, and I cannot have VoLTE working (despite the corresponding option being enabled and carrier saying that it should work). Currently, when I make a phone call, the 4G data connection gets disabled and voice travels over 3G or 2G. When the phone call is over, 4G data connection gets back on. Since 3G is being switched off, if 2G suddenly became totally unavailable, I simply couldn't make phone calls anymore.

Any chance of automating this with tasker?
I used "Toggle Network Type" app on earlier android, but not it can't set 2G as preferred type anymore.
Edit: actually it was Automate app that I used, but neither it nor Toggle network type work.

Not sure if you have tried enabling this option in the SIM settings (something to do with the Tensor Security settings as Google deem 2G to be less secure.

I didn't, because I don't have it. I'm actually on a different phone and rom, and just trying to find a workaround, this is the closest thread to my problem that I found on xda. I'm using Samsung S8, and this rom: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/rom-13-crdroid-android-9-x-for-samsung-galaxy-s8-s8-n8.4516883/

Yes I sow on my Korean SGS3 SHV-210S and in this menu you could change some factory settings fro SMS, GSM settings and etc., for example instruction for Korean SGS3 like here http://people.sarang.net/2963084

I want to know just for information, because for example in Korean version SGS3 possible to change setting for network priority and etc. see on picture
Maybe no one knows the codes yet.... It should be set on Automatic, My settings by default are perfect ,switches back and forth from 4g to 3g and the change is very quick, It does not lag or stutter at all. Even if there was a code i would never use it lol, But I guess google is your freind for now
Could this mean there is a hidden setting to just switch between WCDMA and GSM automatically?
I'm not yet in an LTE area so its pointless having the phone try to find an LTE connection. Currently I just have it locked into WCDMA but sometimes 3G reception is patchy and I want it to pick GSM automatically.

Maybe
Just Leave it In auto mode its not like your hurting the phone, If it receives a 4G signal it will switch if not then it wont, It doesnt waste any battery
The phone has this option in Settings>More settings>Mobile Networks>Network Mode>AUTO MODE (LTE/GSM/WCDMA <<<<<<<<< This is the default setting. It will switch bands depending what the coverage is. LTE being Priority then GSM then WCDMA
I am 90% of the time in a 3G area and I have it in this mode
*#197328640# - almost the same code as the SGS1.
UMTS->Debug Screen->Phone Control->Network Control->Band Selection would be what one would want to lock only into certain bands.
Guys may be this will be useful for somebody.
*#0*# - using this code you could enter to the hidden service menu and test all main phone hardware functions psychically

Wifi calling enabled but not working (VZW+Airplane mode)

Trying to test the feature before I go overseas. Wifi calling is enabled, HD voice/advanced calling enabled. When I check the hidden menu in *#*#4636#*#* everything is checked.
I turn on airplane mode and enable wifi. When I try to make a call, the dialer says "turn off airplane mode or connect to a wireless network to make a call". I am connected to Wifi though and signal strength is solid. What is the problem?
You rooted? Don't know if that really matters but, I had use adb to edit the settings database. I never could get it to work till I did that. No root needed. Just Google wifi calling preferred ADB.

I am aware of that guide for ADB. However that is for preferred WiFi calling when both cellular and WiFi are available. It shouldn't help when I'm in airplane mode.

Had same problem with Verizon Wifi calling, fixed it
I had the same problem on my OG 2016 Pixel (rooted) running stock 7.1.2 ROM on VZW, but now fixed - here are the steps:
1. Open Testing Menu (dial *#*#4636#*#* on dialpad).
2. tap the "Phone information" menu.
3. Toggle on the "VoLTE Provisioned" slider (this was toggled off by default on mine). (Also make sure "Wifi Calling Provisioned" is toggled on.)
4. Using the Quicksettings dropdown menu, toggle Airplane Mode.
5. IMPORTANT NOTE - When I tried the 1st time it didn't work because entering Airplane Mode greyed out Wifi icon and disabled all Wifi connections (and data icon showed "no service"), even though Wifi was previously toggled on.
6. To remedy this, drop down your Quicksettings menu again and simply touch the Wifi connections shortcut, wait a couple seconds and all Wifi connections will repopulate, and default Wifi connection should re-connect.
7. Now hit the back button to the Quicksettings dropdown menu, wait another couple seconds and the data icon should change to "Verizon Wireless Wi-Fi Calling" - Wifi calling should now work

I appreciate the suggestion. I had tried toggling all those options previously but I did it again per your instructions. It did not work.
My quicksettings text goes from "Verizon Wireless" to "Airplane mode" when it is enabled. Then when I put WiFi back on it goes BLANK. It does not say "Verizon Wireless WiFi Calling" like yours did. Any ideas?
I don't understand. I have a cellular signal and my wifi calling just stays on. All I did was change 2 values in the Database.

I guess I never caught that fact. Mine doesn't stay on all the time. But, as soon as I walk in my house it pops on. My wife has an S7 and I can't get hers to work unless I turn the cellular off. Evidently Samsung does not have the same settings database.

I've heard that a local Wi-Fi router mis-configuration may be the reason Wi-fi calling fails in some instances.
I would test it out on a different router, or have someone with a known good Wi-fi calling phone setup test on your router to eliminate that possibility.
I've also heard that Wi-fi calling breaks when upgrading to Oreo for some folks. Curious what Android version you're running?

I ran into the same issue, possibly after Magisk install on custom RR Rom (Marlin/Latest April Oreo build). It had worked one time but I guess installing Magisk was the most recent change I could think of after which it stopped working with the error message reported by OP. Anyways the only thing that worked was to do a "Network Setting Reset" , then setup Wifi (Airplane mode on) again and Wifi Calling settings back to On with Wi-Fi preferred.
Note: Also in "Mobile Network" in Settings, need to ensure "Roaming/Connect to data services when roaming" option is selected for the "Wifi Preferred" option to stick.

Network Type/VoLTE Problem

Not sure if I'm being stupid here....and did search but couldn't find anything quite like the issue I've got.....
I live in an area with pretty flaky LTE coverage and because of that, I struggle with VoLTE....basically it's rubbish and can't hold a call very effectively.
On my old 6T I could switch off 4G in the preferred network setting menu thereby forcing the phone to 3G and a circuit switched call.....no problem. With my OP7 Pro, I only have the option in that menu of "4G/3G/2G (Automatic)".
Is that right? Or should I be able to select "3G/2G (Automatic)" like I could on my 6T?
Or is there a way of turning off VoLTE that I haven't found yet?
TIA!

Well, this is weird.....have reset to factory, flashed the 9.5.7 full ROM and still have the same issue.....
I suspect their is a SIM card provisioning flag that the phone is respecting......i.e. EE have said they want the phone to prefer 4G always and therefore can't deactivate the ability to use only 3G/2G.

I am also on EE, EE is the only network in the UK that had volte on by default. I have spoken to them about this same thing and the reason the toggle to switch off volte is missing is because EE can't switch off volte on their end without disabling 4g too. So it's normal if using EE, if you use a sim from Vodafone for instance the volte toggle should reappear in the settings.

How To Guide Xiaomi and Verizon

The followong devices have been tested on Verizon in the US:
Xiaomi 11T
Xiaomi 12 global version
Xiaomi 12X global
Working:
5G
VoLTE
SMS both sending and recieving
Phone calls both sending and recieveing
IMPORTANT:
MMS on stock Global/China ROM wont work on anything other then Verizon messages
Verizon Messages - Apps on Google Play
Stay connected using Verizon Messages on your Smartphone, tablet, and PC
play.google.com
Please install and set as the default sms app.
However MMS does not work on mobile data only wi-fi. Luckily there is a way!
Getting MMS on data:
So this gets complicated. The xiaomi phones come with the wrong APN settings. So what needs to be done is copying the APN settings of a known good rooted android.
1. Copy the telephony.db off the good verizon phone
2. Install signal spy on the xiaomi https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.novvia.fispy
3. Once thats done find out what the verizon carriee id is, it should be a next to verizon, ie. Verizon(######)
4. Now pull the xiaomi telephony.db off the device
5. Install https://sqlitebrowser.org/dl/ on a computer
6. Open up the dbs
7. Now delete in the xiaomi dbs all entries ror LTE - Verizon, delete the rows dont NULL it.
8. Almost done
9. Now in both dbs search carrier: Verizon and numeric: ######
10. From the known good db copy everything except the _id column.
11. Past the data into the xiaomi table from row 0
12. Now delete whatever rows were NOT altered.
13. Now both tables should have the same exact verizon settings except for the _id column
14. Push the telephony.db back onto the xiaomi
15. Reboot
16. Open the dialer
17. Enter *#*#4636#*#*
18. Click phone info1
19. Set prefered network type
20. Select the second to last option NR/LTE/TDCDMA....
21. Turn the radio off and on
22. Reboot
23. Open settings and select the VZWINTERNET as the APN (thank you bjs339)
24. ???
25. Profit
The xiaomi can be unrooted and the telephony.db will survive a reboot and a sim removal.
One thing of note, you may need to enable roaming and 5g for the phone to register properly.
RESETTING APN OR RESETING NETWORK WILL ERASE THIS TABLE.
Other apps will now work for text mms, but will be limited to downloads of 30kbs, uploads are unaffected.
Let me know if you need help or have any questions.
I am so sorry for my terrible spelling.
One thing to add, I couldn't send or receive group text messages with iPhone users until I set the APN. I had to actually go into the settings and select VZWINTERNET. This is on the 12x global.
Interesting, did you have to change any of the other settings or did just selecting the APN fix it for you? Also are you able to recieve mms on data only? Thank you.

Selecting it was all I did. In fact, the other settings are locked down. I think I can get mms on data or wifi if that's what you're asking. And I could message with individual iPhone users prior to making the change, just not groups.

Interesting. I'm in Greece. There used to be a time that connection didn't go down but I never figured out the specifics of why.

Are you sure that you're not referring to VoLTE?
If 3G is shut off on your network and you don't have VoLTE then you call with 2G
2G doesn't permit data session with a call going on
Really not sure. All providers here support VoLTE but not sure how to check it. I think there used to be an OOS version that showed an indication for such calls but I then lost it.

All you need to do is to go to Network and Internet - SIMs - VoLTE (turn it on) & Preferred network type ( set it to LTE or 5G).
