ok im running haykuros latest htc rom and also overclockin with open overclocker my cpu speed was set to 384 eeverything was working fine until the battery was under 5 percent..the screen turned off and was really hot...i charged the battery and know the fone wont boot! all i get is a blue led when i press the power button! no commands work! home and back dont work or the camera button command either! plus I dont have insurance! Im screwed!
Damn...sorry to hear man. So the screen doesn't even come on? It doesn't even allow you to enter into recovery mode?
I would take the battery out, leave the cover off and leave it alone for a day or 2 in front of a fan or at least in a cool dry place so it can cool down NOT THE FRIDGE LOL. Some hardware even if it overheats, if the components aren't completely shot just needs a little resting time and it'll work fine. If by any means you can get it to boot i'd take out the memory card pop it into your computer and load the modded rc29 build onto it right away and then let it update OTA......Sorry about the loss I know the G1 is still pretty expensive 250+ most places I see...except craigslist which can be cheaper depending on which city you live in. Good Luck.
Happened to my old tmobile MDA a long time ago when I got overclock happy and I just let it sit for a day or 2 naked with the battery out and it powered up fine. Hope it works out for you......
Thanks for the help man.. i think imma jus leave it off overnight...
i dont think ill be able to put rc29 kuz i cant even get to that screen on the fone
I don't know if there is anyway of telling if the battery is damaged or not (doubt you have a digital multimeter). But even if you don't have insurance on the phone, you can complain that you are having battery problems and have tmobile send you a new battery, that you can try out. Good Luck bro.
I would go into a T-mobile store if you can and ask if they could switch out the battery for you. Most will unless they are complete asshats. If that doesn't work I would call T-mobile and do a warranty exchange. Don't tell them you have customer firmware or using an OC app. Just tell them the battery got really hot and now your phone won't work. It should be covered and they will send you out a replacement one.
T-mobile best CM!
Called T-mobile and they are sending me a brand spanking new fone for free! thank yo guys for all the help, much appreciated!
bricked
Your phones is not bricked you blew it up god over clocking your processor is dangerous unless you know what your doing guess this goes to show everyone overclocking the g1 is very dangerous unlike with great motherboards this will not shutdown if you overheat the proccessor

He wasn't over clocking it. The "overclocking" apps do not actually overclock, they just set the clock speed to the max its made to go. The G1 is actually underclocked.
underclocking
Htc underclocked it for a reason cause it overheats and blows up come on people just because you can does not mean you should in the apps text in the market tells you about this. I was just pointing out that when you fry your phone it's not called bricking it's called blown up. It's not like htc put a fan to cool it down like a pc mac or linux box plus batery heat screen heat. Using an app that's designed to defeate safety features put in the phone is idiotic.

You don't seem to understand the definition of a processor's clock speed. The clock speed represents the maximum frequency the processor can run on safely. Therefore, there is no danger in running it at its full designed speed. Granted, it will decrease the overall processor's lifetime, it is still a safe thing to do in short bursts. Like you mentioned, the G1 doesn't have any cooling on it, meaning yes, the processor in a sense could overheat from running at such a high frequency, but it shouldn't be enough to permanently damage the phone. And finally, this is XDA Developers, we are all about defeating these safety mechanisms and things along that line

says you, i personally like to test anything to it's max potential as long as it is under warranty. i figure if i goof it up i can claim i have no idea what is wrong with it(i'm a pretty good liar) right now i have a PC notebook quad-booting ubuntu 8.10, ubuntu 9.04, windows XP pro, and windows vista. if we never pushed anything hard enough to crash things would never get better. i wish i had a bigger hard drive in my comp(only have a 360 GB with 4 partitions) so what am i gonna buy ASAP 1 exabyte just because i CAN. i know i will never fill it up but hell i can store all my DNA info on it and still have room for any movie/mp3 i could possibly think of
hello
i bought the phone from amazon but it's still on the way
t the beginning i was trying to find a budget phone and the option was SAM S4 mini, but i dont like Samsung and want some official OS like nexus, and BOOM the MOTO G is the answer !!
read and watched some reviews and by that i decide to buy it -GLOBAL SIM ver-
now while i'm reading the threads, i found some people complain from signals issues, low calls volumes, kitkat issues and battery issues :crying:
i don't believe the whole stock is defective, maybe some, but still , the numbers are increasing
should i worry ?

Don't waste your time worrying about that.
If you have a defective one getting a replacement from Amazon is quite comfortable (you probably know..).
I think the mayority of the phones are fine so the chances are good that yours is, too.
I have zero issues with my phone. I have turned the volume down for calls, my battery is usually at 50% after 14 hours of use, and there is no lag.

that's really comforting guys
i'm really exciting bout this device for both specs and price, Motorola is a great company, even without using their devices since long time , they are well known
even tho i'm an importer, but i know Amazon and their CS are top notch, so i can figure it out with them if something goes wrong, but i really hope everything is gonna be OK
thank you all

Just to tell you to have fun with this device
This device is still brand new so stalk the roms section to try new roms, pretty fun.
Ps: Never had battery issue or software issue or having a defective model
i received the mobile, but my SIM went out of service so i need to buy a new one lately
anyways, the first thing im doing is charging it to 100%, then upgrade to KitKat, i wished to test somethings on JB before upgrading just to make sure everything is OK, but i'm excited lol
after the upgrade i'll shut it down till i bring a new SIM, hope everything is ok
i noticed i can't charge the phone via USB cable while it's OFF, it'll turn ON right away, trivial but whatever
can i upgrade the system from Motorola Device Manager ? cause i think from the WiFi it's taking around an hour and half
lol
the battery as 100% while downloading KK update
after completion in 2 hrs still high percentage
after installing the update and rebooting,i'm at 40%
is this natural?
i hadnt done anything else yet
That happens when you update. Just use it and you will notice that the 40% last for a very long time. Or just recharge it instead...
...
just wanted to confirm that i had the low voice problem on KK, i encountered only once so far
i was to open the speaker, but the voice was so low that i thought it wasnt on speaker, but when i pressed the volume button the voice went loud just fine as it should on the speaker
hope i wont encounter it very often
Is anyone having their phone heat up a lot while on a phone call?
Sometimes while the phone is in my pocket my leg starts to sweat due to the phone getting that hot. I just got a case but that only cuts the heat in half(but still hot).

I picked up my Samsung Galaxy S6 and yes, it heats up abnormally..and it does it fairly quickly. I can hardly hold it to my ear while talking because of the heat.
Thought I was the only one with the issue for a bit.. the longer the phone call the hotter it gets.
OH man here we goooo
portable frying pan make sure you carry eggs and bacon with you at all times lol
Well try it your self if you think we are kidding.. get in a 10+min phone call and feel as it gets hotter
I will try to recreate this when I get back home. My guess is that it has something to do with the volte.
I was on the phone with T-Mobile for over an hour yesterday and my phone never got hot..

Ok, I have Sprint...but I doubt the heating issue is carrier specific Just run a simple Speedtest 8-10 times and you will see your phone heating up. If not, I need to go and get a new phone. This may be an isolated issue with a few phones.
My phone is from tmobile so maybe it's not related to specific carrier models
I'm on Sprint and my G6 gets super hot as well....... Why is it anytime I get a new phone, it has issues? Ughh..... And I'm coming from a Nexus 6
Interesting, I do not see any other site reporting this issue yet. Probably they will report it on Friday when more people will get the phone in their hands. And yes, it sucks that much anticipated galaxy 6 heats up so much.

Heating is common, I remember my galaxy s3 heating upto 50 deg in summer while browsing or heavy use. I got a nexus 6 last month and it had an uneven display, so I replaced it and the replacement had the same issue but not that severe. I returned it got back my money. Now I am planning to get the s6 tomorrow. The always flash on is a problem for me. Check out the forums many people are reporting their flash is always dimly lit. Heating isnt an issue, both my n6's would go upto 45 -48 on intensive use.

Not trying to troll, I apologize. It's just not real world usage running 10 speed tests in a row and then thinking there would be no heating of the device. Anytime you run a performance test is going to push the device to it's limit, you're downloading & uploading tons of data over and over at max speed

I believe he was meaning an internet speed test, but it happened to me from just starting my phone. It was so hot that it felt as if I could cook a burger on it, and I wasn't running anything. I will say that it does get warm now, but ever since the update it hasn't gotten that hot. Maybe that was part of the update, a voltage setting or something.

Yes there was an update pushed out for the tmobile version of the phone. I do not know if the other carriers got an update for that aswell.
Just did a non-VoLTE(HD) call test and the phone did not heat up . I cant test the VoLTE right now as I don't have anyone available to call. It could be an issue with Volte and I would have to take it to the store if I can reproduce the issue.
I would like to add that on first setup when I started downloading all my apps (did a NFC user swap), the phone got too hot to hold in my hand.
i am also on sprint i have noticed my device get really hot what should i do
When I was downloading my apps onto it the back got very warm but that's the only instance I've noticed so far.
Just want to report today I was in an HD voice call with the phone in my jeans pocket walking around and the phone overheated and did a self reboot. Might take my phone to T-Mobile to have them look at it.
overheating as well when listening to music... VZW
Hi all,
I'm confused and very hesitant about upgrading , I have a note 4 and like I said I'm very hesitant and reluctant to upgrade because I don't want to be a slave to a charger.....this is the number one reasons I hate Iphones besides not being able to expand the memory you can't switch out the battery, and you become as I stated a slave to a charger. Also I want to know if you are rooted & running the latest software does it make a difference what device you have? I know a friend of mine who has an s6 and I know one who has a note 5&6 their constantly charging it because the battery is constantly dying. can anyone tell me why I should upgrade to a note 5 if I cant expand the memory?
Can anyone tell me weather I'm doing the right thing, Or can anyone tell me anything to rest aside my fears concerning upgrading. ......thanks

How did you root it w/o being able to take off the back or taking out the battery especially if it overheats ?
A friend of mine just got a brand new note 5 & a s7 & she's complaining the battery is over heating & dying quick.

Well, I was trying to help. Perhaps a better choice would be a Samsung Jitterbug.
The Note5 is an amazing phone. I wish there weren't as many variants around the world, so that the development was consolidated, though...
Anyway! You don't need to take out the battery to root. You cannot access the battery with this phone. If it overheats, and I don't think mine ever has, it will just shut off (theoretically), or you can hold down power, home, and down volume buttons to reboot it.
If you wait a few weeks, the market will be flooded with used Note5's, so you might be able to pick one up for cheap.
Just wait until the Note 8

ROFL. I'm dead!
Hello, I need a new phone and I'm looking at the Nokia 3 because it has an e-compass and gyroscope, sensors that are a must for me.
Sadly most brands are leaving e-compass behind. So I got really exited when I saw that all nokias have it.
So far the only thing that keeps me from buying it are the bugs I read about the phone in this forum and others: screen that doesn't turn on, battery drains, charging that stops at 80%, phone getting slow/choppy, phone that hangs after using the camera.
So I need to ask you this... how serious are those bugs? do you believe they're gonna fix them or they are not doing anything to improve it? is it worth it?
Thanks.

Personally I haven't experienced any of those bugs, the only thing that once happened to me is that once the phone ran down and refused to charge or come on for a while. That said, I'm not sure other phones don't sometimes have similar or worse issues.
Might I ask, why do you need a phone with a compass sensor? Can't you just get a camera app from the play store, or wouldn't such an app work without the sensor?
Anyway bottom line is, the choice is up to you. I believe getting a phone without issues is sometimes a hit and miss situation. Ultimately you'll have to make the decision for yourself. I'm not really sure I can advise you on that. I got my Nokia 3 because I'd always liked the Nokia brand (but couldn't stand the WP os) so this was my way of declaring solidarity with Android on Nokia.
My biggest issue with the phone is the lack of backlight on the navigation buttons, which can be inconvenient in dark places. If that is not a deal breaker for you, you can go ahead and get it, but I'd recommend searching for info on people who have used the compass sensor first

Hi there !
First,I want to say Nokia 3 phone is for me a very good choice :
-have a clean pure android OS without bloats(thats why I am not sure it is a wise choice to root it or unlock boot)
-is a very fast phone if you disable apps you dont need(faster that a rooted debloated Xperia)
-I use MX or FV5 camera for taking very nice photos (at 8Mpx)
-Charging never stops if you know that Nokia 3 have a new protection system for battery-if phone is on charger and you use it a lot on 4g internet the temperature of battery is increasing over normal and automatically is trigged the protection suspending the charge until temperature drop to normal.
So is not a bug,is an enhancement for better battery life.
-If you search the guys who are over complaining you will see they work for competitors of Nokia.Dont forget is a tough competition and there are a lot of high end phones who are not on Oreo update program.Nokia until now keept their promise to deliver monthly updates and upgrades .
Also suspicious is the fact that MTK had double time to deliver drivers but is still delaying.
If you want the best budget phone Nokia 3 is by far the best choice !
All the best !

Hi, I'm using this phone about 2 months, and i had no bugs so far. I didn't tested compass so i can't really tell you about that function. I think that Nokia will fix those "bugs" that other users experienced because they release OTA updates often so you can be sure that you are on latest version. Design of this phone is nice, my friends like it too. Battery life is great for me, it lasts whole day without charging. Sound quality of speakers are ok, i would say average, sound quality through headphones is behind average, but that's my opinion. Customization of this phone is so far good. We have unlocked bootloader, TWRP, SuperSU root and Xposed. I hope that Nokia 3 can have some good Custom ROM. Performance in games are good. I play GTA:SA, Asphalt 8 without bugs in medium settings. Multitasking is ok, i can have 5 apps in background and no apps will be restarted.
I recommend you this phone, i think that it won't disappoint you.
Thanks for your replies!

I use a few astronomy apps regulary, those need e-compass/magnetometer to work. Also I'm a mapper and use a lot the GPS, GPS without compass is only half as useful. Being able to register where you were facing while taking a shot or registering a note is very useful in mapping, astronomy, hiking, etc.

My advice is to buy TA-1032 variant which is European variant and have dual-sim because it have twrp and stock rom in case you bricked your phone.
Other variants are ok too, but only TA-1032 have twrp and stock rom at this moment. I hope that twrp and stock ROMs will be available for all variants.
I'm from argentina so I don't know wich variant i'm gonna find here... I know it is dual sim, but that's all i know about the nokia 3 they are selling here, EDIT: appearently the most common variant here is the TA-1028, very few sellers has it at this time that aren't even official stores and it's not that cheap, they are selling it here for USD 200-270. That's why i'm worried too because probably I can't get any local support.

TA-1028 is single sim, TA-1038 will probably be the dual sim most common. I don't know if Amazon ships to Argentina, if they do and it doesn't cost too much, I think you can get the TA-1032 model there

Sadly I'm not willing to buy it outside my country because there are high chances that the postal office steal the package when it enters the country. Also import taxes adds up to 50-60% the price, so the risk is worthless. Easily I prefer to pay those USD 200-270 and be 100% sure I'm getting the phone. After all these troubles I need a really trustworthy phone.
