Hello, I need a new phone and I'm looking at the Nokia 3 because it has an e-compass and gyroscope, sensors that are a must for me.
Sadly most brands are leaving e-compass behind. So I got really exited when I saw that all nokias have it.
So far the only thing that keeps me from buying it are the bugs I read about the phone in this forum and others: screen that doesn't turn on, battery drains, charging that stops at 80%, phone getting slow/choppy, phone that hangs after using the camera.
So I need to ask you this... how serious are those bugs? do you believe they're gonna fix them or they are not doing anything to improve it? is it worth it?
Thanks.

Personally I haven't experienced any of those bugs, the only thing that once happened to me is that once the phone ran down and refused to charge or come on for a while. That said, I'm not sure other phones don't sometimes have similar or worse issues.
Might I ask, why do you need a phone with a compass sensor? Can't you just get a camera app from the play store, or wouldn't such an app work without the sensor?
Anyway bottom line is, the choice is up to you. I believe getting a phone without issues is sometimes a hit and miss situation. Ultimately you'll have to make the decision for yourself. I'm not really sure I can advise you on that. I got my Nokia 3 because I'd always liked the Nokia brand (but couldn't stand the WP os) so this was my way of declaring solidarity with Android on Nokia.
My biggest issue with the phone is the lack of backlight on the navigation buttons, which can be inconvenient in dark places. If that is not a deal breaker for you, you can go ahead and get it, but I'd recommend searching for info on people who have used the compass sensor first

Hi there !
First,I want to say Nokia 3 phone is for me a very good choice :
-have a clean pure android OS without bloats(thats why I am not sure it is a wise choice to root it or unlock boot)
-is a very fast phone if you disable apps you dont need(faster that a rooted debloated Xperia)
-I use MX or FV5 camera for taking very nice photos (at 8Mpx)
-Charging never stops if you know that Nokia 3 have a new protection system for battery-if phone is on charger and you use it a lot on 4g internet the temperature of battery is increasing over normal and automatically is trigged the protection suspending the charge until temperature drop to normal.
So is not a bug,is an enhancement for better battery life.
-If you search the guys who are over complaining you will see they work for competitors of Nokia.Dont forget is a tough competition and there are a lot of high end phones who are not on Oreo update program.Nokia until now keept their promise to deliver monthly updates and upgrades .
Also suspicious is the fact that MTK had double time to deliver drivers but is still delaying.
If you want the best budget phone Nokia 3 is by far the best choice !
All the best !

Hi, I'm using this phone about 2 months, and i had no bugs so far. I didn't tested compass so i can't really tell you about that function. I think that Nokia will fix those "bugs" that other users experienced because they release OTA updates often so you can be sure that you are on latest version. Design of this phone is nice, my friends like it too. Battery life is great for me, it lasts whole day without charging. Sound quality of speakers are ok, i would say average, sound quality through headphones is behind average, but that's my opinion. Customization of this phone is so far good. We have unlocked bootloader, TWRP, SuperSU root and Xposed. I hope that Nokia 3 can have some good Custom ROM. Performance in games are good. I play GTA:SA, Asphalt 8 without bugs in medium settings. Multitasking is ok, i can have 5 apps in background and no apps will be restarted.
I recommend you this phone, i think that it won't disappoint you.
Thanks for your replies!

I use a few astronomy apps regulary, those need e-compass/magnetometer to work. Also I'm a mapper and use a lot the GPS, GPS without compass is only half as useful. Being able to register where you were facing while taking a shot or registering a note is very useful in mapping, astronomy, hiking, etc.

My advice is to buy TA-1032 variant which is European variant and have dual-sim because it have twrp and stock rom in case you bricked your phone.
Other variants are ok too, but only TA-1032 have twrp and stock rom at this moment. I hope that twrp and stock ROMs will be available for all variants.
I'm from argentina so I don't know wich variant i'm gonna find here... I know it is dual sim, but that's all i know about the nokia 3 they are selling here, EDIT: appearently the most common variant here is the TA-1028, very few sellers has it at this time that aren't even official stores and it's not that cheap, they are selling it here for USD 200-270. That's why i'm worried too because probably I can't get any local support.

TA-1028 is single sim, TA-1038 will probably be the dual sim most common. I don't know if Amazon ships to Argentina, if they do and it doesn't cost too much, I think you can get the TA-1032 model there

sellers says it has dual sim :/
Sadly I'm not willing to buy it outside my country because there are high chances that the postal office steal the package when it enters the country. Also import taxes adds up to 50-60% the price, so the risk is worthless. Easily I prefer to pay those USD 200-270 and be 100% sure I'm getting the phone. After all these troubles I need a really trustworthy phone.

hello
i bought the phone from amazon but it's still on the way
t the beginning i was trying to find a budget phone and the option was SAM S4 mini, but i dont like Samsung and want some official OS like nexus, and BOOM the MOTO G is the answer !!
read and watched some reviews and by that i decide to buy it -GLOBAL SIM ver-
now while i'm reading the threads, i found some people complain from signals issues, low calls volumes, kitkat issues and battery issues :crying:
i don't believe the whole stock is defective, maybe some, but still , the numbers are increasing
should i worry ?

Don't waste your time worrying about that.
If you have a defective one getting a replacement from Amazon is quite comfortable (you probably know..).
I think the mayority of the phones are fine so the chances are good that yours is, too.
I have zero issues with my phone. I have turned the volume down for calls, my battery is usually at 50% after 14 hours of use, and there is no lag.

i'm really exciting bout this device for both specs and price, Motorola is a great company, even without using their devices since long time , they are well known
even tho i'm an importer, but i know Amazon and their CS are top notch, so i can figure it out with them if something goes wrong, but i really hope everything is gonna be OK
thank you all

Just to tell you to have fun with this device
This device is still brand new so stalk the roms section to try new roms, pretty fun.
Ps: Never had battery issue or software issue or having a defective model
i received the mobile, but my SIM went out of service so i need to buy a new one lately
anyways, the first thing im doing is charging it to 100%, then upgrade to KitKat, i wished to test somethings on JB before upgrading just to make sure everything is OK, but i'm excited lol
after the upgrade i'll shut it down till i bring a new SIM, hope everything is ok
i noticed i can't charge the phone via USB cable while it's OFF, it'll turn ON right away, trivial but whatever
can i upgrade the system from Motorola Device Manager ? cause i think from the WiFi it's taking around an hour and half
lol
the battery as 100% while downloading KK update
after completion in 2 hrs still high percentage
after installing the update and rebooting,i'm at 40%
is this natural?
i hadnt done anything else yet
That happens when you update. Just use it and you will notice that the 40% last for a very long time. Or just recharge it instead...
...
just wanted to confirm that i had the low voice problem on KK, i encountered only once so far
i was to open the speaker, but the voice was so low that i thought it wasnt on speaker, but when i pressed the volume button the voice went loud just fine as it should on the speaker
hope i wont encounter it very often

Not really digging on Sammy anymore. After having this phone I will never go back to a phone without front firing speakers and a "selfie" flash. I don't give two figs about Moto mods but give me a "refresh" of this phone with updated specs and I'm all in! Otherwise GoodbyeMoto.

Very happy with it, it'll last me another year or two at least If I keep charging up to 90% to help with the long run, but I would have to say my next phone definitely would have front facing speakers and has a big screen, which the newer phones are having bigger screens so that's an easy mark to pass. The front facing speakers though, that's a dying breed now a days because of the new bezeless design of newer flagships.

I switched to an OnePlus 3T over a month ago and I couldn't be happier. It has really long battery life(6 to 9 hours Screen on time), depending if you are on WiFi or LTE/3G. The performance is the awesome. No Ram management issues (like the Galaxy Phones), everything is smooth and opens instantly. It's the first Android device in 7 years, since I'm using this OS, where my Device isn't modified, cause Oxygen OS is the stock Rom, which I would flash as a Custom ROM. You could modify the Screen density, you have gestures, network traffic monitor, battery percent, no bloatware...(except the gapps)...
The only things I could complain about is the camera in low light and front facing speakers would be nice. Otherwise if someone wants to buy a new phone: get the OP3T.
I recommend the phone to someone who isn't a nerd like me and had the S7 before. He had awful battery life on the S7 and the phone wasn't really faster then the MXP. He had nothing to complain after the switch. He hadn't called me once. I called and asked him what battery life he get's and he told me that his battery lasts 2 to 3 days, without charging.
I'll probably go over to lg g5, xiaomi mi6 ot oneplus 3t whichever gets cheaper

It is just a damn shame the OP3T is GSM only, for those of us in the US. I get it, though; it's an international device and the CDMA market is too small globally to be worth changing the whole design over. Other than that, it seems like as close to a perfect phone as you'll find in today's compromised market.
My next will be Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge or S8+. This probably won't happen until around Black Friday. I'm really fond of my Moto X but miss Touch Wiz.

Being disappointed in Lenovo is one thing. But in Android in general...a google phone is the only way to go to get consistent updates. Otherwise, there is no guarantees with any OEM. Nearly every OEM out there has pretty much pulls this same stuff. Typically devices within 12 months of release are updated quickly (relatively) and thereafter, the newest phones become priority. By 24 months support is non-existent.

I just don't like android anymore (and google phones don't work for me). Every OEM builds its propietary implementation of everything, no one want to "join" forces so they can make android a good, stable, securo and safe OS.
I'm tired of that. I just want something that works, that is built for the user (and not built so the user has to work to make things work).
I want the following:
1. Unlocked bootloader.
2. Works on Verizon.
3. uSDcard
4. Removable battery.
Suggestions?
I agree with the 3T if your on GSM get it I've also switched and man was it worth it I even relocked my bootloader and stayed on stock it's that good I get 4 or 5 hours SOT when I'm at work and I got terrible service there and don't even need to charge midday I'll have 15% before I plug in when I hit the bed when I'm not at work I'll get 2 days with 7 hr SOT it's a beast hands down no root or mods

Only 3 current phones fit 3 of 4 of these requirements... All are LG, the G5, V10, and V20... But the LG G5 is the ONLY device available that fits all these requirements since it has an unofficial bootloader unlock, the others do not have an unlockable bootloader.
Not much of a choice in my book...

Yep. This is the reason why I have given in on the removable battery option, hence this phone. I'm not on a CDMA network now, but I want the option to switch should I so choose.

Then I say go for the iPhone. My general opinion is that Android was partially designed with the idea of customizing the user experience.
As far as being a secure OS, Android itself is secure. With security updates being provided regularly now, it is more so. Honestly, a Google phone, aka Pixel, will get timely updates, doesn't require mods to be usable, and has the option to customize should you choose to do so. And not to mention no proprietary software causing security issues (here's looking at you LG).

Apple is doing its proprietary implementation of everything too, it's even worse than android devices.
And why having each OEM making their UX for android make it unsecure, unstable and unsafe ?
User having to work to make things work ? isn't your phone working as the OEM intended it to be ? you bought your phone not knowing what it can or can't do ? I wont buy a phone that can't have a specific feature that i need and then complain that i have to implement it by myself
Your arguments to explain why you're moving to IOS are flimsy.
You can be bored of android, or wanting to try IOS, but man android unsafe, unsecure or unstable ? custom roms can be unstable, but it's not the OEM fault.

I gave up on CDMA and Verizon in general about 4 years ago with a Nexus 4... I've bounced between a few providers since then, will never go back to Verizon. I pay $36 per month per line for unlimited calls and texts, and 8GB of unthrottled AT&T LTE data per line. I'll deal with marginal service in a few rural areas I rarely go as a trade-off.
I have had this phone for exactly 24 hours, and until then the fingerprint scanner installed in it worked relatively well.
After 24H the sensor decided to activate repeatedly automatically (without me touching the sensor) and finally, stop working.
It will not register any new fingerprints or react to the unlock feature or nothing at all. Rebooting won't fix anything, I have yet to try a hard reset.
My question is, even though the phone is really new, has any of this happened to you guys before?
If so, How have you fixed it?
Thank you and sorry if this is in the wrong section.

I hope it works, mine is still broken, and now the audio doesnt work at all, if im playing music for instance, it will not sound, and every now and then, play 0.1s of the song, it's really a good phone but its getting on my nerves
Also, update me about the case
Also wanting an update on the case, dimensions look to be near enough identical and there are more case option around for the non pro.
So, a new update
The fingerprint scanner decided to work suddenly today, I opened security and decided to see if I could add a fingerprint to unlock it and to my surprise it decided to work.
Regarding the speaker, I found out that if I suck on the speaker (yes, i put my mouth on the speaker hole and aspire air gently) the music, app, game, anything begins playing, and as soon as I stop breathing in it stops playing.
Why is this happening to me? It honestly is super strange, I already contacted gearbest and I hope they help me solve it or give me a new one

The case for the mars fits, pretty much perfect. Did you try a hard reset in the end, at all? Mine is working really well although ive heard the phone is compromised by malware/spyware (did manage to find the folder but you can't disable anything) that's why I am trying to root asap. Other thread is here to follow: https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software-hacking/tutorial-vernee-mars-pro-root-t3652213
Did post this one in another thread but this one seems better:

I have this device a week and it's great. Directly installed the OTA of September. Everything worked fine.
Up and until yesterday the fingerprint scanner was really sensitive maybe too sensitive. Then yesterday evening the phone was charged to 100% before I went to sleep so I plugged it out and powered it down to be fully loaded at 100% this morning.
After starting up it seems that the fingerprint print scanner is a lot less sensitive and sometimes it feels sensitivity is degrading during the day of use, to just no sensitivity at all.
Does someone else experienced the same? Does someone have a solution?

It doesn't seem to be a software problem, but a hardware problem. For me the fingerprint sensor works for some time, then one day it messes up and stops working for a week or so. I really dont know what's wrong, seems to fix by itself.

Thank, so it is a matter of ups and downs?
I did some gaming while on charge yesterday so maybe some heating can cause this?
I also have some Bluetooth issues while calling on my carkit. Music on my carkit is fine. Will an app like Bluetooth Auto connect be of any help?
Besides that I really like the phone overall.

Yes, it seems to be a matter of ups and downs, same with the speaker. Apparently when the humidity is high, my speaker refuses to work at high volumes ( it crackles and then it stops working)
My charger blew up recently actually (But that was because of some problem with my home's powerline). I got a Samsung charger, slightly slower charge, but my battery now lasts for much longer I have realises (I'm speaking 9V charging instead of 12V)
It is true the phone heats a lot, that's why I'd avoid using it while charging or at least if I plan to charge it all the way, since by the end it will be really hot.
Regarding bluetooth, I really havent had any problems whatsoever, therefore I can't really tell, for me bluetooth has always worked well with cars and speakers and so. I doubt an app like that be of any help, since it should pair automatically with the closest bluetooth source so perhaps that could cause a conflict, but I havent tried it so I can't know for sure.

This morning I took it of the charger. Now fingerprint is quite acceptable. Not that over sensitivity which I disliked, and a lot more responsive than yesterday.[emoji2]

Cheered too early, messed up again... It seems that a moist finger works better. It notice the touch better, but then it doesn't recognizes it....
Bleutooth calling went ok today. Seems though that I have the P20 or P25 lite version of the Mars Pro. Not the regular P2t
Should have chosen the Xiaomi Note 4 Global instead... I will monitor it a couple of days but I think I will look for a better 64gb/6gb USB type-c device in the near future....[emoji19]

Hi guys, I have a quick question for you.
I am considering buying a new phone but don't want to spend too much. I have noticed how the Mix 2s has singnificantly dropped in price lately.
With regard to the camera in particular, how does it compare to let's say the s10e? If I install a custom rom/camera will it still be below the s10e one? Basically, is the hardware of the two too different for the mix 2s to reach s10e level via software optimization? Thanks to those who will help me out
That depends, the camera is good on this phone, no doubt about it. I don't know how it compares with the S10e, but I think if I had the chance I would not buy the Mi Mix 2s again. My main problem, the selfiecam that's below the phone. I don't take selfies very often, but when I do it's annoying to flip the phone every time.
Regarding the software: I've been using a lot of custom roms, but ended up with the Global Beta MIUI-rom. It's stable, receives weekly updates, and gives me the best battery life. No more custom roms for me.
Good luck with your choice!
Hey, you ask about the camera, and i can say when i first got my phone , the camera blew me away, amazing shots, good quality, the selfie cam takes nice shots in good light, video quality improved alot with 1080p 60fps and 4k 60fps, for its price recommended, the ceramic back is just gorgeous, about custom roms, we got google camera from good devs, and also a port of MIUI CAM for AOSP ROMS, with working 60fps recording.

Thank you both guys! Yes the price has gotten very competitive lately. I like its design but I understand the selfie camera position is quite inconvenient. Not sure I will get this phone yet, there are some things about it that I don`t really like (lack of headphone jack above all) but it`s nice to see most users are liking the phone despite some minor downsides. Thanks
DON'T BUY IT!
It has good camera, but since january there are so many problems with gsm and connectivity that You should not treat this device as phone Right now I needed to get another phone and move one of sim card there, because mimix2s usually is out of range. My operator sends me sms each time I was out of range and somebody tried to call me, in last months I had hundreds of them being in center of city with "full range". Many callers complains about voice quality, often You are disconnected on call. When signal is not strong You will be offline, phone gets got trying to connect, sometimes restart helps.
I told You in january there was a change that brake connectivity, last ROM without problem is 10.0.7.0. User reports that some AOSP ROMS are good too, but I can't confirm that on my side, signal is just weaker on them. I have now one of cards in samsung A40 and this phone just works, has full signal when this struggle to get anything, bluetooth don't disconnects, and nobody complains about voice quality, data connections works. My device is not broken, many other reports this issue right after ROM update, this depends on country, region, maybe some specific GSM operator settings. Xiaomi needed to make change because of SAR: https://piunikaweb.com/2019/04/01/x...port-weak-no-signal-and-other-network-issues/
Problem is still not fixed: http://c.mi.com/thread-1896725-3-1.html
I also don't experience any of these problems you're describing
i was thinking to buy MI mix2s too. Is it a good phone? I surveyed all other phones with similar specs (except camera) and found this. Probably the cheapest sd 845 phone in my country for now. I dont care about camera quality but i am a serious multitasker and gamer. Is the battery life good? Someone guide me please and very appreciated. Thanks :3

I'm having problems with this phone also, I'm in Canada, and I get constant network drops, 10-20sec before it reconnects back to any network.
Entering big buildings like shopping mall, or for example Home Depot (Obi) I get no signal anymore.
Love the phone for it's value, but it's starting to be useless when I need it to work.
What would you recommend to switch to, mi 9 or mix 3 maybe ?
Just wanted to find some opinions on what to get basically it's been awhile since I was on her and my note ten is having the cold battery can't charge issue so Im looking what to replace it with and need root and loved the functionality of a fully unlocked bootloader but I missed the great speeds of a US phone since I'm in the US so wonder what I shoud do?
Too cold, won't charge?
You think it's a mobo failure on the 10+?
I've never seen that warning. Use something like DevChek to view all the sensor temperatures.
May just be a battery failure. They're good for about 2 years on a heavily used phone, my lasted 1.5 years and failed.
I'm looking at getting a second Note. My choices are another 10+ or a new 20U. It will likely be another 10+; it a solid, stable, fast phone with no glaring issues. If still running on Pie, that's a huge plus, Android 10 and especially 11 just suck. I don't have high hopes for 12.
So if it's the battery or C port PCB*, just replace and wait for the 2022 Note release.
From what I've read the Snapdragon has a better chipset architecture and instruction set.
They seem to be notoriously hard to root. Probably not a good choice for rooting.
I know you can optimize a stock 10+/Pie, not sure how well that will go with Android 10 and above. Some of the functionality isn't there for valuable 3rd party apps like Karma Firewall's logging feature. You can still use Package Disabler or ADB edits to kill the bloatware though.
On newer high dollar phones is many ways rooting is a liability especially with warranty/insurance and you lose Knox, Samsung Pass etc if you use that junk. There are those especially on this forum that swear by it but won't acknowledge their cost in time (which can be and typically is huge) and inconvenience.
Stock Androids/roms are easier to troubleshoot and more secure. If there are issues with a stock setup there will be thousands or more with the same issue making solutions more likely and easier to find. With a custom setup you are on your own which can quickly implode into a time sucking blackhole in more ways than there are stars.
If I was going to root it be an older Note... not a brand new one... risk/time vs reward.
*the C port PCB may have a temperature sensor, not sure. It can cause a lot of bizarre issues in seemingly unrelated systems like internet connection, I know that for a fact. Make sure if you do replace it you get the exact PN that on that PCB or it will not function properly! Both the battery and C port PCB are relatively easy to replace with the proper tools and skillset. Both are cheap, under $50. Make sure you replace the back cover OEM seal with the same or equivalent if you open it up. Do not use generic double sided adhesive tape!

Yes ,
i had this same issue of yours ,
"to cold to charge" can't charge ,
notice/issue .....many years back .
Can't remember which device of mine it was , think it was a Samsung Tablet A 2016 .
Anyway ,
Took devices to Samsung Service Centre.
It was the USB charging port .
They did not charge me much for the repairs .
Got it fixed and device charging normally / working fine afterwards.
My point is whatever you do or decide do not "throw/give "device away .
It's a small fix.....!
good luck
I am running the US snapdragon spammy 20 - ultra rooted up with boot loader unlocked thanks to afane and his advanced bros, although due to the lock down on many features such as scoped (controlled) storage preventing apps from being installed outside of the control room (googel store), did I mention notification sound got locked down too?
