4.3 "gremlins"- wifi/data drops on sleep, partial screen responsiveness, black screen
Background: I went from rooted 4.1.2 (stock TW) to old&slow's 4.3 TW ML1 ROM just a little over two weeks ago (ROM thread found HERE).
-Full data wipe, cache, dalvik, etc
-Reinstalled all apps CLEANLY (didn't use any TiBu backups at all)
-No modem-related problems, etc (I'm still using the MF1 baseband version- I had no connectivity problems when I installed this custom ROM)
-Using Xposed framework (various modules: AndroidTunerFree, Disable Clear Default Diag, DisableBatteryFullAlert, Greenify, SamsungMultiple Widgets, and a few others that are app specific like Snapshare and Keepchat)
Very impressed with the ROM. I plan to keep it.
Problems (these only started happening this past week):
-Almost every time I unlock my phone (using a PIN), it's just a black screen. Every time I have to hit the home button and then it brings me to my home screen. Is there a way to find out what is bringing up this black screen (surely it's an app? Right?)
-All wifi and 3G/4G data signals are dropped as soon as I turn my phone's screen off. I know this is a common problem reported with 4.3, but with the hours and hours of reading I've done, there doesn't seem to be a consensus about what causes it, or a solution.
***RELATED TO THIS MAY BE THAT I INSTALLED the "JellyBean 4.x Airplane Mode Helper 1.0" Xposed module. My phone started being stupid once that was installed. I disabled, uninstalled, reinstalled, etc but to no effect (I find no way to configure the module's behavior itself). And no, wifi-lock apps have had NO effect.
-It's happened semi-regularly that my phone will not register screen touches- on lockscreen, home screen, etc. Not even the capacitive touch buttons. Hardware buttons work, but there's no way for me to make screen selections. The ONLY thing I have found works is that I am for some reason still able to drag down the notification bar and play around with things through there, so I think it's related to NovaLauncher Prime. To that end, I enabled "Aggressive Desktop" in NLP, which has "solved" the problem...but I want to know if there was an underlying problem so I can just solve it once and for all.
-Waze voice guidance only speaks the last syllable of the directions it's giving me. Never had this problem with 4.1.2. I've read some places that it's related to 4.3 specifically--so it's Waze's problem to fix--but I might as well ask about this one too. It makes Waze navigation almost useless, and a safety issue as I drive (since I can't just use the voice- I'd have to look away from the road to look at my phone, which can get me a huge ticket here in Utah).
Some more info on the wifi/data drop issue:
-Telephony services do NOT drop, and all pushes DO go through (Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, etc) as if the data signal is present. But looking at my system's battery settings, it is obvious that data of any kind is on ONLY when the phone's screen is turned on. It's essentially acting like Mobile Data is turned off unless a push is received, which normally I wouldn't mind (since it means apps aren't using data on their own when my phone is off). Problem is, I don't want things like Skype (which I rely on for work) dropping just because my screen is off. Nor do I want to keep my screen on forever, to preserve battery life.
-I considered that it might be an issue with my router. So I assigned my router to reserve my phone's IP, and locked the IP my phone uses on my home network, so I don't get any of the "signal is unstable" problems. None of these had ANY effect, and it happens with all wifi access points I've used in the past with no problems.
Any and all insights on any of these three issues would be absolutely great.
Hi everyone !
I've been using this phone for a week now and I'm super happy with it, great performances, awesome screen, very well built, an all around good experience. Except for one thing.
I've been testing many scenarios with it to try to understand what is going on with my phone...
Whether it's on aeroplane mode, on mobile data or on wifi, once the screen is off, the pedometer and the GPS stop working. When the screen is on they work perfectly. The pedometer sensor (I use the "sensors test" app) shows me only 493 steps whereas the pedometer sensor on my Xperia Z3 Compact shows 8905 steps for the day (I walk a lot at work). And yes I've got both phones in my pockets.
Apps such as Google Fit, Lifelog, FitBit don't count my steps. On Google Fit I can no longer "start activity" because when I checked the phone the GPS is inaccurate. When the screen is off, my location is in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean and it goes back and forth like that.
I precise that I already checked every setting needed for the apps to work perfectly such as:
Access to my location is ON
Mode is "Use GPS, Wi-Fi and mobile networks : High Accuracy"
"Apps with usage access" is enabled for the specified apps
Specified apps are "protected apps" which means they're supposedly "running after the screen is off"
Background data is allowed on those apps
"System Wakeup" & "Keep running after screen off" are enabled for the specified apps
And finally, for my Xperia Z3c, even if in airplane mode, the phone tracks my steps all day long and once I'm back home connected to the Wifi, it uploads my data to the server.
If anyone can help me, it'd be greatly appreciated!
Put those GPS accessing apps and your Pedometer app in protected list, they might be getting low priority after screen off, putting them in the protected list will let them run even after the screen is off. To put them in Protected Apps list go to Settings > Advanced Settings > Battery Manager > Protected Apps
I hope this helps you.

They're all already protected apps. That's what I don't understand... Everything is done so that all the apps should be running perfectly.
The thing that intrigues the most is the actual step counter sensor of the phone that stops just a little bit after I lock the device (screen off). I use for that that the "sensor tests" app. That application is also protected (and doesn't require any mobile network or Wifi to work) so even if it stops, wouldn't the number of steps increases/updates once I put the screen on? It's like it literally stops recording my steps/just goes into a coma ;D

That's strange, it should get updated. Well, it should be updated even the screen is off, have you tried doing factory reset? Maybe it can solve, but it is highly unlikely though.

I've done a factory reset for something else I couldn't solve at that time (on the day I got the phone and personalized it lol) which is now solved.
So now that I know more about the phone and its settings, I've created a backup and will do another factory reset (likely tomorrow). *Fingers crossed*
My brother got a Honor 5C, I'll try to take his phone for a day and see if he has the same problem or not (doesn't have the same utilisation for his phone as mine)

Okay, do it and report, so that we can know if it solves the problem or not.

So I did a factory reset this morning and went on a walk after installing my two favourite apps: Google Fit and Lifelog.
*
Everything was tracked during the hour walk! The GPS worked perfectly! Even the application "Health" from Huawei worked too. All 3 had almost the same number of steps.
*
Seeing that everything worked I therefore reinstalled all my applications and stuff, being careful of the settings.
*
But, and unfortunately there is a but ...
*
This afternoon I went for another walk, and oddly only Google Fit recorded my steps. The number rose to 6,500 while the number of steps from Health and Lifelog remained unchanged at 3700 (those at the end of the morning walk)
*
I really don't understand anymore...

When I go to the "apps" menu, I counted 84 (~35 apps from Google Play + Huawei own apps).
Could there be one app messing with everything?
I think so, try deleting all the apps which requires location except the two which you use to measure your steps.
Hi! Did you worked out what was wrong with the pedometer? I am having the same issue.
It is a software issue. The way the oem coded the OS for good battery life has come with many issues like many things shutting down when the screen goes off.
Hello! I have extensively searched for a resolution but found nothing.
Device: Samsung Note 4 SM-N910W8, Android 6.0.1, Rooted
Problem: The NFC toggle to turn off option grayed out and shows as on. BetterBatteryStats reports nfcservice.mRoutingWakelock as causing a lot of Partial WakeLocks causing a lot of battery drain.
Potential solutions not worked: Reboot, change battery
Can not locate the file on Android Phone Drive to manually edit the option to turn off e.g. at http://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-galaxy-s5/help/nfc-options-disabled-t2806521/page2
I am reluctant to try factory reset (again) as it does not seem to help other people http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/help/nfcservicemroutingwakelock-t2339220
I can try Titanium to freeze the nfc service. Never used Titanium before but again I am reluctant to do that.
I mean there should be a sensible way to turn off NFC on my phone? Any help appreciated.
update: after spending a few days trying to solve this problem a few hours after making the above post the problem magically dissapeared. That is I did nothing and the NFC icon appeared on my status bar and when I went to the NFC setting it was no longer grayed out and I could turn it off.
I don't know what fixed it but I think likely Android/Samsung pushed out some update.

Not sure if anyone can help, or if it's been covered before but I'm a new oneplus 6 user and have scoured these forums, oneplus, reddit etc and cannot find a working solution to my problem.
I currently have no real issues receiving push notifications on wifi, however mobile data is different. Once the screen has been locked for a small period of time I stop receiving push notifications. When I wake the phone some will show up, some won't show until the relevant app is opened.
Advanced battery optimisation is off.
Individual apps I want notifications from all have battery optimisation set to "Do not optimise".
I have cleared the phone cache through recovery mode.
All notification settings for the apps are on, background data on etc.
There is no option for doze mode in developer mode to turn off.
I have a Tesco Mobile and a 3 sim card. The issue seems worse with the Tesco mobile sim card. The 3 one seems to work better but slowly reverts to the same issue the Tesco one has. I've tried other people's tesco sim cards and replaced my own but none have worked.
Any help would be appreciated, it's driving me mad.
Just to make sure, under Advanced optimization settings there are two switches which are "Advanced Optimization" and "Sleep standby optimization", keeping the latter off might be the problem. Though if they're both off, I assume that it's just the native Doze working to save battery

Yes both are turned off. Do you know of anyway to turn off this "native doze". As a football (soccer) fan, I want instant score notifications for games, I used to get these fine on my iphone 6 but now I have to wake my phone all the time to get them to come up, even then sometimes they don't come through for another 15-20mins.
Have you tried settings in Wifi preferences?

I've looked in there but can't see anything that would affect mobile data. The notifications work ok when on wi-fi. I've checked mobile data settings and there are no settings for the apps in question which would restrict data usage.

Is this happening to all apps (ex. social apps like twitter or whatever) or just the football app? If it's the latter it should be a problem with that specific app. While if it's the former case, It should be something system-wide, so I'd recommend doing a factory reset maybe?
Btw my phone performs the same as yours with the "sleep standby optimization" on, while it operates as normal with it off, so your case seems pretty hilarious :/
I've experienced on all apps, it's most noticeable on the football one as you can time the push notifications exactly so can tell when they're late but WhatsApp, facebook messenger etc both the same. It seems as if the device just goes into a form of heavy sleep mode after around 5mins of lock. I've tried a factory reset already and nothing changed. OP have advised me to try and reinstall the OS but I don't hold any hope. It's almost as if the phone cuts off all mobile data after 5mins of downtime.

If factory resetting doesn't solve the problem then reflashing the system likely wouldn't either I suppose.
I still have two options in mind that you may be able to try.
First option is to use apps like "Doze" or "Naptime" both on play store, and mess with those advanced Doze settings to try to disable the function itself and see if it works.
The other would be to try the new HydrogenOS P beta or other custom Roms such as Havoc and see if they don't have this problem.
If neither of these work, I really have no other ideas
But I think these are worth giving a try though

I tried the Naptime app but that required root and doze didn't seem to do anything.
I've now tried Android P beta. Exactly the same issue. Once the phone has been locked for a few minutes all updates stop. Once I unlock the phone I get flooded with notifications. So frustrated.

no idea dude sorre
I'm having the same problem
I have similar but different issue with a few apps that I don't use often.
The push notifications only come through the second I put my phone on charge
Sent from my unknown using Tapatalk
Which mobile networks are you on? I found the issue to be resolved when using an o2 SIM card instead of my Tesco mobile one
Edit: Since this I have tried again with an o2 sim card and it didn't resolve the issue. Leads believe it's an issue with my handset.
Since few days, i have the same problem here, i try severall things but no solution at the moment.
I also had notification issues. Then I installed the stock rom of this topichttps://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-6/how-to/rom-stock-fastboot-roms-oneplus-6-t3796665 and my notification returned to normal
my notification come onl;y when i turn my screen on -> https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-6/help/notification-android-p-stable-t3849170
I have this issue and I can't understand why more people aren't complaining about it.
Don't suppose your apps are restored from some kind of backup?
EDIT: Okay, people are complaining about it: https://forums.oneplus.com/threads/push-notification-issues.451149/page-121
have this exact same issue on my note 8 with android pie on vodafone network and so far nothing seems to help or fix the same really frustrating.
did you manage to find any solutions so far ?

Hello everyone!
Today I updated my HTC U12 + (128GB) to the Android Pie version (9.0):
First I received an update of approximately 350 MB, which was downloaded and installed without any problem, the cell phone restarted without any problems (I clarify that my cell phone is encrypted and when it restarts, ask for a password to continue with the restart). For now everything is going well.
After a while the main update was downloaded (950 MB approx) and I had it installed as soon as the download was finished.
Again the cell phone restarted, he asked me for the password to decrypt it, but after that, it went completely black, he did not advance anything else for several minutes. Amid the panic, fear and despair, I pressed the power button to restart the cell phone, asked for the password again, and apparently charged the rest of the installation.
When I went to use the Camera application, the option thath appears in the lower right corner to see the last photos taken (like a gallery) is not working well, the application crashes and is not letting me see the photos taken. (Here goes the first problem).
Another problem I have is with the Google Play Store app: It doesn't allow me to download apps from the store, as if it were locked or something like that. (Here goes the second problem).
Now, the main problem is: Like any good engineer, any problem can be solved with a reboot to see if everything loads well, but I already tried and it didn't work. And following the good traditions of the good engineer, it can be said that I do a hard reset (erasing all the settings and content of the cell phone, which I also consider an effective solution, I will not deny it), but currently I am outside the country where I have hired My phone number, and for work I need WhatsApp (and as you know, I need a text message with the code to login), and I have no way to activate Roamming.
Can anyone help this good citizen with any advice, trick, recommendation or magic spell that does not involve formatting the phone and solving these problems?
Thanks!
PD: A friend with the "same" model (64GB) had no issues with the instalation, and we compared the camera version number, and everythings is the same.
Delete camera and gallery data in settings and reboot. If that don't work do a factory reset... Sometimes after an update it is necessary to delete old caches that get stuck

I have already deleted the cache of the applications with problems, but it still does not work properly.
Thanks for your answer and support with this.
(Until I can return to my country, I cannot do the hard reset... sadly)
no issues here since yesterday evening
So far it's great, very smooth, phone (64GB blue on TMO US w/ 128GB SD) is faster & battery life seems to have improved a lot though it's only 1PM here so we will see...
Upgrade went the same way like yours except I waited patiently to come back from the "blackout" after the decryption was done, thanks for the heads-up (though I usually wait a while anyway.)
UI is a tad more responsive - I have a lot running on my phone, I use it heavily for business all day long.
I like the clock's new location in the upper left corner actually more than the previous one - however the new UI design is a too bubbly and too colorful, too 'pop' for my taste, the previous one was far more elegant, I think. I will give it some time, see if I get used to it - if not I will just look up some more subtle theme.
I only had to re-apply my notification sound setting, everything else was kept intact so it's all good.
All in all I'm satisfied so far, very smooth upgrade - it did worth the wait, thank you HTC!
