I observe that in my work where is poor signal GSM after unfold device i see jump from 1 bars to 3 bars in these place on my desk.
So fold device a lot of limits range?
Anybody observe similar situation?

I get continued lost calls at home where I have strong signals on all of our phones (Verizon). I learned about field test mode from a popular science article which directed me to this link:
http://www.wpsantennas.info/pdf/testmode/FieldTestModes.pdf
These instructions work on the TP2:
Enter *#*#364#*#* and your phone will enter test mode. Signal strength
follows RSSI. Number shown is not –dBm. Strong signal is 31 (approx
-50dBm), weak signal is 4 (approx -105dBm). The higher the number,
the stronger the signal. Press END or DONE to exit.
When I do this after RSSI there is NCell info1,2,3,4,5. They all come in at 0-99 dbm. RX Quality is 99. I have no bars on the phone at all, and I am continually dropping calls.
Someone that knows something about this, please talk to me!!!! What numbers are you getting? It appears that my TP2 gets lousy reception while other VZW phones in my house do not. This is a replacement TP2, and I do not recall problems with the first one.
I'm unsure as to why you arre dropping calls. Unless your signal is around -99db which WILL cause you to drop calls.
Go into your Windows folder and look for a file called "FieldTrial.exe" . Run that and take a look at both the 1X & HDR screens. You can find tower info along with acurate -db values for each. Easier than having to enter test menu codes. Also, when checking for signal strength, keep your hand away from the upper back portion of the phone. That's where the antenna sits. I find I will lose almost -10 db at times if my hand covers that spot and the phone is lowered.
Am I looking for RX Power, ie reception power?
That is coming in at -90 to -94 dbm.
1X is coming in at -88. My hand over the antennae changes it by 2-3, but it appears very weak already.
Now what do I do, I never compared the other phone, but I can hardly use it at home. I have been with Verizon and every other phone, and all the phones my family members have get great reception. This is my second TP2, I am not up for doing this a third time.
halo all, i come from hongkong,
i have my d2G running GSM/UMTS signal, and also the call quality. I get 2 bars or sometimes only 1 bar as signal strength when set to GSM/UMTS.
even i set is to global, it doesnt improve much.
what is the solution
That's how it works unfortunately. In GSM mode it shows signal normally. It is UMTS mode where signal is always shown as weak (despite signal readings showing ok in settings/about).
Despite the low signal indication, phone doesn't seem to suffer from that. On 1 bar I get 6+ Mbps download speeds and I never had a dropped call or even degraded call quality. It could be a purely cosmetic issue (inaccurate signal strentht display).
I only get 4 bars in UMTS mode when facing the tower within 100-150 meters at most...
Good to hear that, I suspected the same thing when I saw the signal bars on D2G and compared the speed with my N1
so the speed is as fast as your n1 , even it got only very little signal shown?
yes its more or less the same.
I have noticed that someone had suffered the same weak signal problem. After several days' observation, I have found my A2 had always full bars when the network is in 'G' but much fewer bars when it is in '4G' !! And it switches between 'G' and '4G' network automatically and I found no way to somehow fix it to only 'G' type !!!
Anyone have any idea how to fix the network type ??
Thanks in advance !!!
I constantly switch from 2 bars of edge to 1 of 4g and it is very annoying >.>
While it may be annoying to look at, are you actually loosing any data? Mine does the same thing but I usually don't ever see a drop in speed. Some times it does drop to G and then I will see a loss. Its usually not from 3 or 4G though.
You shouldn't notice any difference in a drop from 4g to 3g at all unless you live in one of the six major cities its launched in... Hahaha. I don't pay attention to signal type because of that very reason (unless of course its edge).
The annoyance for me isn't really the icon change, its the no signal for a moment while it switches over aspect.
I checked, and to the best of my knowledge, Im under LTE coverage. But for some reason, I have yet to see any LTE icon or speeds. Anyone else having a similar issue at all? Might this be an APN issue or something?
EDIT: Nevermind, please delete.
I've noticed that this device really drops reception as hard as possible when in low reception areas, which seems to be done in order to save power.... because I put it in my pocket and reception is often E or no reception in my school (usually 0-2 bars of HSPA+ or EDGE), even though it is more than capable of staying at around 3 bars of reception of HSPA+ where my old device could maybe get 1-2. I know that's not a good comparison but it's clearly dropping down to 2G/no reception when not in use.
Hallo, Vodafone Italy still not offers LTE coverage in my city, but there are some cells that already have it enabled.
I noticed that when I'm under 4G, my signal never got past 2 notches.
So I ask to who is covered: is this right or do I need RMA?
Thanks...
I'm supposedly in a very strong LTE area and I usually see two bars. Occasionally there will be three bars holding steady but rarely do I expect to see four (out of five). My speeds rarely change from 16-18 up and down (downloads always faster. Zero packet loss on T-Mobile. My Nexus 4, on the other hand gets low speeds and between 2-4% packet loss.

Are you talking about the signal bars in notification area as "notches"? Trying to see if thats what you said. If so, the signal bars do not dictate the LTE strength, just cellular call strength. The LTE download could still be great even in no signal bar areas as well, signal does not influence the data strength nor does data strength dictate the signal quality via the bars. Since the phone has to turn off LTE to "switch" to 3G in order to make calls, the "switch" may have something to do with the bars.
Thanks, that's exactly what I wanted to know! And, yes, Italians call signal bar "notches"...
