How to change the image selection app when using Chomp SMS - Google Pixel 4a Questions & Answers

This seems like a simple question, but I can't find an answer. Any help would be appreciated.
0. Pixel 4A running Android 12
1. In Chomp (my default SMS/MMS app), when I want to send a picture, I click the small picture icon under Tools to select an image.
2. This opens an app with "Gallery" at the top and all my pictures.
3. The Gallery app has no date seperators or controls to change the layout of pictures - it is just one long grid of pictures.
4. Unfortunately, Gallery seems to sorted by date taken only. As I scroll down, there is no way to tell when a picture is was taken (no breaks between dates). So, when I need to find a picture from last year sometime, I scroll forever - back and forth - trying to figure out if a picture I see was before or after the picture I want. This is nuts.
5. So, I want to stop using Gallery and start using something better - preferably F-Stop (where my pictures are organized by folders, keywords and dates.)
6. My first try was to disable Gallery - however there is no app listed as Gallery, Photo Gallery, Google Gallery, etc (At least I could not find it)
7. My second try was to disable Google Photos (and it sorts by date taken but it has breaks between different dates ) - I disabled it but no change. Gallery still opened as the selection app.
8. My third try was to attempt to change the default app for pictures - but there isn't one. I see defaults for Browser, Calls, Digital assistant, Laucher, Phone app and SMS app - nothing about images.
I'm stumped (but that is not hard to do to me)
Does anyone know how stop Gallery from opening or use a different app when in Chomp?

I use Chomp but don't use it to send pictures, but try this
Let the gallery app open and in the top left hand corner there should be a Recents icon, this should open a file viewer that also shows a 'Browse in other apps' bar where hopefully your app of choice is shown, tap that and you should then be able to pick F-Stop organised the way you want.
You may have to do this each time though

Thank you. The frame in the upper-left corner looks like a broken picture. However, when tapped, it is a search box that also lets me change apps. Thanks again for solving my problem.

Photoview app (wallpaper help)

Just flashed (yet another) rom and I seem to have lost the 'photoview' app.
When I would go to change a wallpaper or icon I USED to have the option to view with photoview (or photoviewer) as opposed to 'gallery'. The icon for it was the two semi-photo frames.
This is important to me (and probably others) because the 'gallery' takes forever to load and looks like crap because of the accelerometer. ALSO, and this is a big one, when I select a wallpaper through galley it comes in kind of 'grainey' and not clean... as if the resolution is bad even when usung the same picture as earlier.
Any thoughts?
It seems that whatever program I use to view photos, the image is clear but it loses resolion when I set it as a wallpaper.
Is this something in the framework?
i don't like the gallery either, i wish we had the htc gallery for the g tablet somehow. to view pictures i use astro most of the time.

S4 Camera / Photo / Email Problems, you too?

Anyone else having these problems:
(1) blurry photo's - I have removed the sticker and still get a lot of blurry photos. Sometimes it could be due to me moving the camera but most of the time I try to hold it very steady. I get the issue with HDR, Sport, and Auto modes. I did some research on this and tried chaning some settings but I still get the problem a lot. Some full sun photos look great, but way more blurry photo's than I would expect (coming from iPhone 3GS as a reference). I have these settings for past couple weeks:
PhotoSize: 4128x2322(16:9)
Burst Off, FaceDetect Off, Metering CenterWeighted, ISO Auto, AutoNight Off
Antishake Off (I think this was On and still had blurry photos so tried off),
GPS Tag Off, Review Off, VolumeKey Camera, Timer Off, WhiteBalance Auto, Exposure 0, Guidelines On, Flash Off, Voice Off, ContextFilename Off, ShutterSound Off
(2) edited/cropped pictures (from the Gallery) are saved in PNG format, why not JPG!?!? Did I miss an option for this somewhere?
(3) I use yahoo mail, occasionally I share a photo from the photo Gallery app to email (from the s4 to my email account). After receiving the email, I cannot view the pictures in the yahoo email webpage or on the computer after downloading them from yahoo). Same for JPG and PNG. Windows Photo Viewer says "Windows Photo Viewer can't open this picture because the file apears to be damaged, corrupted, or is too large". In the stock S4 email app, I have the Default image size set to Original. What is going on???
(4) Pictures are not rotated correctly when viewed in Windows (browsing DCIM folder directly from Windows). Is thi camera or Windows... this is frustrating that this type of issue still exists in the camera world with all the sensors.... the image should not need to be rotated! Is there a fix for this?
I did some searching and I see some people have crashes with the S4 Gallery app... I have not had that problem.
Thanks!
Another problem
(5) in the Gallery, if I use "Set As" to set lockscreen wallpaper from a photo I edited with the Gallery edit feature.... it won't set to lockscreen. I wonder if it is because of changing images to PNG???
I tried going into Application Manager and clearing cache and defaults for the gallery.... same problem.
My picturers rarely come out blurry, and I can set pictures that have been edited as my lock screen or home screen wallpaper...unsure about the whole yahoo email thing as I don't use yahoo. And I don't see the big deal of edited pictures being saved as PNG instead of jpeg...than again I'm not a picture snob so I wouldn't know the difference.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk 4
I have problems with the galllery it freeze every time it look that now that i change the rom it was fixed. But the camaera is not really 0 lag

[APP][4.2+]Pure Rss - An Offline Rss Reader

Being an avid news reader, I really missed the good old Google reader when it shut down. After that, a couple of services like FlipBoard popped up...but I didn't like the curation done by them. Feedly is an awesome service...but its UI has become really old and no longer interesting.
So, I decided to make an app with everything I wanted in it as a user. I feel like this has come out really well so far and now, I can use some feedback from the XDA community to perfect it.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.udn4hc.purerss
The app doesn't have any ads right now. The Screenshots provided in the listing are a little outdated, but I have created a new promo video. Please access it from the play store, or use this link https://youtu.be/ZjzhKE36OrM
I want to provide Feedly sync functionality in the application...but the Feedly team is currently upgrading their API to v2 and won't give access to new applications in the meanwhile. So, that will be a future upgrade whenever they are ready.
To list out a few features in the app -
- flip scrollng - similar to flipboard
- pager scrolling - similar to feedly
- standard Android scrolling with lists and cards
- Offline access to articles/images
- Custom sync/cleanup intervals
- Alternate Themes - 6 currently, including a dark theme
- Multiple fonts available to choose from
- Material Design
- OPML Import
- And many more
Please go through the app and let me know your feedback
Very nice app. I must say that during use the " please refresh feeds, new stories downloaded" message seems a bit passe. If I'm on the app, isnt it better to just refresh the stories automatically, or have a pull down to refresh action ? Also I have no feeds chosen in some categories , however I still need to go through those empty tabs to reach the next tab. Any option to delete unused tabs ? or maybe reorder them.
Whatever the case you are making the appropriate category of app. So far there has still been no google reader alternative.
Importing OPML file is doing nothing...
Maybe it's due to the categorization that could (and would) be different from the default ones?

Can you open the left slide-in pane and see if your feeds are added? You need to press the refresh button for the app to download articles from the imported feeds. Maybe I need to start refresh automatically after importing the OPML file. Another thing on my mind is to hide the empty category tabs that doesn't have any content(as suggested by the above post).
I will push an update in a couple hours

Automatically refreshing the feeds automatically will make you lose your scroll position etc., if you are in the middle of browsing. I like the idea of pull to refresh though. I will have that in. Thanks!
Hiding the empty category tabs seems to be a good suggestion too.
Thanks for your suggestions They are really helpful!

Oh, I've got it. Now I miss:
1. View options, as the feed is shown with a larger picture (thumbnail) that I want. My list become very long...
2. A way to sort the categories (alphabetically, for instance) and, for sure, hide the empty categories.
3. Check duplicate feeds (if any) in different categories.
4. Mark as read until here, till the end, etc.
5. Show feed for just one (or some) URLs within the categories (or, better) allow showing contents with a scrolling menu at left where you could choose which feed you want to read).

Awesome. Glad you found the feeds
Now, let me explain the app and its different "Screens". Firstly, we have home screen, which is visible when you open the app. Then there is a category/topic screen, which is available when you click on topics(Technology, Business etc.,) from the left drawer. Then there is the feed screen, which is available when you expand the topic on left drawer( by clicking on the arrow next to it) and then select the desired feed.
There are multiple views and options available when you are in the category/topic screen and the feed screen. I cannot believe I made it hard for users to get to them The views/layouts are what I am actually proud of about this app! I need to do something to make it easy.
Please refer to the screenshot attached for now or the video that I have provided in the first post.
Only card view and listview can be used in home screen, and I will give an option to toggle between them in the settings. The other views mess with the scrolling on the home screen.
Now to answer your concerns...
1. Will give an option to toggle between list and card for home screen.
2. Sorting/ordering the categories is not available right now. I need to look into that and will get back to you
3. I believe I already do that...but will double check. I check if you have already subscribed to the feed url. I will get back to you on this.
4. That seems like a good option. Will do.
5. I believe that is available from the left drawer. Please let me know if that is not what you specified.
I will post an update tonight addressing these issues(except 2 and 4).
Btw, thanks a lot for taking time to go through this app!
Hi there. All in all a very nice rss. I dare to say the best at the moment while it is new.

Thanks for trying out the app Am really glad you liked it.
I can give a setting to turn notifications off. Is there a particular notification type that you felt was unnecessary?
You need to go to the Feed screen to remove the source:
Open left drawer> Expand category(Technology, Business, etc,) by clicking on the arrow left of it> Click on feed > Click on the more icon at the top right corner of the screen there> Click actions.
I have an option to unsubscribe there. Please check the youtube video that I have posted in the first post. It has a lot of information
Also, please refer to the screenshot posted in my previous comment here.

1. In my phone, the list view without pictures still take a lot of space in the screen. I will move the share button to most top right and let the source (feed) name + time use just one line (not spaced). Buttons are also not aligned. Maybe a non-thumbnail view option to avoid the "weird" view with and without thumbnails (picture 1).
2. Swipe left and right in the list view is moving between categories and not bookmarking or deleting (as I've thought reading the settings). Maybe, at least, allow this as keep pressing option over the article list.
3. I miss a full black theme (not just changing the colors).
4. Refreshing is moving the category to "all" feeds and I lost where I was reading.
5. I miss options such "mark as read until here" and "mark as read to the end".
6. I definitively will remove the "title" as categories and move all the quick buttons (share, mark as read, remove, etc.) to there. In the place of "all" categories, a button with a menu.
7. Thanks for the option "leave the app". Other readers, while tapping the return button, just close.
8. A way to sort the categories (or manually or alphabetically).
9. Option to open full article in external browser.
10. Option to choose "default" share option (and not needing to choose the long list all the time).
11. The default view in settings is not changing the "new rss feed" default view. When we add a rss and tap the tool to set the advanced settings, the default view is not the same as I've set for the whole program.
12. Tapping the green mark after adding a rss feed is not unsubscribing and the tool icon does not have an unsubscribe option. If I add a rss feed by accident, I can't remove in the same screen (picture 2).
13. Duplicate rss feeds seems to be allowed (at least, manual one + internal list ones).

Thanks for the feedback. I will fix these defects in a while.
From your comments, I understand that you haven't accessed the Feed screen or the category screen yet. Please open the left slide-in pane and try clicking on a category. Swipe left/right works only in that view. As specified in the settings, that feature is not available on the home screen. You can also access any individual subscribed feed from the left slide-in pane....just expand the category by clicking on the arrow next to it, and click on the feed name.
I am not familiar with the full black theme. Can you point me to an app which has that feature? I need something as a reference.

Firstly, thanks a lot for helping me get the app right. You have been really supportive and I really appreciate your help This is what I love the most about xda community!
Now, let me address your concerns one by one.
1. Fixed partially. Share button should not be at the top of the article - that takes up valuable real estate on screen, and for some reason doesn't feel right to me. I aligned the items properly and resized the icon now. Thanks for pointing that out. I will give a setting to choose if you want to load any images in the app at all. CardView is more optimized for scenarios where you don't have an image for the article. ETA before the end of this week.
2. That feature is not available on the home screen. Navigate to any category or feed through the left swipe-in pane and you will see it working. You have many other options there as well, including new layouts/views. Please watch the video that I shared in the opening post.
3. This will be a future update
4. Fixed. I made it so that hitting refresh will keep you on the same tab. The articles will be reloaded though.
5. I will get those options in before the end of this week.
6. I didn't quite follow that. Can you please explain it in detail?
7. Removed. I saw that feature implemented in a couple of famous apps. Thought it would be good to have it here since exiting by mistake will make you lose your scroll position. I will bring that in as a setting in the future.
8. I will get this in before the end of week as well.
9. Done. Please check for the option in settings.
10. That needs some work. I will probably have it in by the end of this week. I am using the default android's share screen and which is supposed to be "smart", as in remembering the most used app/service or contact.
11. That is a feed specific setting, and is only available from the feed screen. To get to that, navigate to the feed from the left drawer! Please watch the video I posted in the opening post to see how to get there.
12. Fixed
13. I fixed it with the previous update. I check if there is any other feed with the exact url in the list of subscribed feeds. An extra slash or a space might break this. I will look into it further.
Check the screenshot I posted below to see a list of available layouts/views from the category or feed screen. Please don't forget to watch the video(mark 1:48). You are missing out on a lot of features present in this app!
The magazine views work really well only when the articles have a decent quality images present. I am working on optimizing them further.
I will post the update out soon to the play store.

[Guide] How to make 3D photos for Facebook

Hi guys!
Before few times i asked this question, but no one answered. Looks like I found a way through. Usually, this option is available for iOS users only.
1. Your photo needs to be blurred - Live Focus, Portrait Mode (gcam) etc, you got the point.
2. Upload the photo to https://www.depthy.me
3. You will see some kind of error. Click load and upload the same picture to create depthmap.
4. You will see the preview of the 3D image now in the next step you need to look at the bottom and click on the image icon.
5. Here you will see the Depth Image Map. Save it.
6. Rename both files to 1.jpg and 1_depth.jpg
7..Upload both files to the desktop version of Facebook.
8. After few seconds you will see new window which says Creating 3D Photo.
10.Done!

Ticwris Max SmartWatch

does anyone have any experience with the Ticwris Max Android SmartWatch? mine is freezing at least twice a day, and fails when trying to do firmware updates.
Mine failed too, how did you recover?
I own one and 6 months ago the screen went blank and staticky. I have been looking for someone to repair it and have emailed ticwris and kospet at least 4 times each but no one even bothers to answer. Any suggestions?

I recently got the Ticwris Max S and so far it's been great. The connection to the phone drops every now and then though. I haven't done the firmware update yet. Mine says it's on V1.9_20201221_20201221-2014.
I'm looking to customize it to get Nova Launcher working and for it to hopefully work to get notification from my phone like my TicWatch Pro 3 GPS is a phone companion.
I just bought a DM101 Max S (unbranded) running on Android 7.1.1 and so far I havent found any custom ROM for it.
These watches go by the name LEMFO, LEM 4, LEM T, TICWRIS, DM98, DM99, DM100 MAX, DM101 MAX S, etc..
Does anyone know about these watches? Theyre high quality little smartphones basically. If only the ROM was customized a bit more for app font scaling and size of font on apps. It runs apps but the font is so small on some and so are nav buttons (on most apps).
The best thing is I installed Blockchain app on my watch and now I can access my bitcoin wallet on this thing! insane!!
I also installed Chime, Cashapp, Facebook Messenger and they all run fine, but some have such micro sized fonts as I said.
Maybe someone can develop a magnify app that expands areas for this watch.
So Im requesting anyone whos interested to start tweaking this cool watch! Ill be trying a few things like trying to root my DM101 Max S, creating a magnify tool for expanding app interfaces.
PLEASE SOMEONE HELP DEVELOP THE FIRST ROM EVER FOR THIS AWESOME WATCH!
IM GOING TO TRY TO COPY MY ROM FROM MY WATCH AND UPLOAD IT HERE. ITS ANDROID 7.1.1

I know these watches can be flashed. Ive read that the ROM on it can go bad (largely due to premature ROM development). The trick is to not go overboard with apps. install only a few apps. the ROM isnt stable from the get go. There is a flash tool I saw somewhere with the ROM to reflash it. There is also a way to boot into recovery on the Max and Max S. Ill try to find it all and upload it here.

Here are 2 things that may help.
1. Go to settings, scroll to the bottom and click more, scroll down to third-party apps adapter and turn it off (this causes apps to "fit" the screen better by reducing the size to the elements in the app, you don't want this).
2. download and install an app called Hidden Settings on the play store. In the app hit the search bar and type accessibility, the setting you are looking for should be the 1st of three results. Within that setting scroll down to font size and set according to your liking. There may be some text that is small but this should help.
I've had my Ticwris Max for a few days now and the more I discover the more I'm enjoying this watch.

I just got my Max S yesterday. I have it running through Nova Launcher (pro) and so far it's been a lot smoother compared to the default launcher. I'm also using a "sync notificator app" to forward my notifications from my main phone.
I'n my opinion the watch has a lot of potential. Just need to figure out a few minor issues.. like lack an always on display volume controls and/or Navigation overlays disappear (and the apps premission settings get reset to once the screen is locked.

Thank you ninpo! I really appreciate this. Ill try it out. Im working on a dark mode next. If its not in hidden settings Im going to try to modify the firmware image and other various tweaks with Android SDK and other tools.
Theres not much more to be displeased about. This watch is awesome.
For those who need the info, here is the USB wiring diagram and useful photos for the DM100 Max and DM101 Max S for whatever reason you might need them for. I found it useful for buying DM98 and DM99 chargers which are way better than the box shaped charger the DM101 comes with. The thing is so loose and doesnt stay in place. Thats where mods or other chargers come in. HOWEVER, you must place the charger of the DM98 or DM99 in the PROPER ORIENTATION with respect to the contact diagram.
Reverse this and you can burn out your watch. Heres a diagram of DM98, 99 charger as well. They line up fine. Only thing that may/may not line up is the magnets but mods are up to you. Ill post about it as soon as I get my DM98 charger.

The one that I'm using is called "Hidden settings for Android" by developer, Common Tools.
I've seen " Settings Search" heavily recommended here but like you, I've found many with that name and wasn't sure which to use.
For those that are interested, I've uploaded a screen recording of my Ticwrist Max home screen setup on YouTube. Take a look if you're so inclined.

I posted this on another forum but thought it might be a good fit here it describes my setup in greater detail.
Launcher:
The launcher that I'm using is called Lightning launcher. Lightning launcher is a highly customizable launcher that allows you to have an unlimited workspace. The launcher gives you complete control over all desk top items such as widgets, shortcuts, icons, and text. These items can be resized, rotated, placed on a grid, or placed freely within the desktop space. The launcher also allows for unlimited horizontal and vertical scrolling. Items placed on the desktop can have up to six assignable actions using gestures such as swipe left, right, up, down, tap, and long press. Assignable actions can include launching apps, shortcuts, and system actions. You can even have multiple desktop setups and easily switch between them. That is just a small sample of what this launcher is capable of. My current setup has a center page with an additional page to the left, right, top, and bottom of the center page.
Home page widgets:
I have two widgets on my home screen, BobclockD3, and Battery Reborn 2020. I've added seconds above the clock widget using lightning launchers dynamic texts feature. I have assigned gesture actions to the widgets in my setup.
Long pressing the clock widget opens the native clock app.
Tapping the battery reborn 2020 widget will give you comprehensive data and stats about your battery.
Long pressing the battery widget will launch an app called flashlight. This app simply turns your screen bright white which you can use to softly illuminate your surroundings in the dark. I like it because it does not kill your night vision but provides just enough illumination to see your immediate surroundings.
Swiping left on the battery widget opens a lightning launcher folder which slides down from the top right of the screen. This folder is a three-page vertical scrolling folder with each page holding three apps. The apps in the folder include Gmail, Google Voice, Google Duo, YouTube vanced, calculator, hi-q voice recorder, watch Droid assistant, Google translate, and wyze (home video surveillance monitoring app).
Swiping up on the battery widget opens the app drawer. The app that I am using for the app drawer is called JINA drawer. I like this drawer app because it is highly customizable and it gives you a great deal of information about your apps as well as the ability to manipulate the apps such as uninstalling, hiding, etc.
Top page:
The top page contains a lightning launcher panel that holds a calendar widget and an agenda widget. These widgets populate the entire screen and can be scrolled horizontally. The app that I use to get the widgets is called Digical, I am using the pro version.
Bottom page:
The bottom page contains a widget called weather & clock widget for Android.
Left page:
They left page contains a widget from an app called YMusic. This app is similar to YouTube music and allows for background play, audio and video downloads but is free. I like the widget because it fills the entire page with the album art of the song that I am listening to.
Right page:
The right page contains a widget from an app called accupedo. I prefer this app over the stock step counter because it gives you a lot more information in the app as well as within the widget. The widget is long but not very tall so I added static text from lightning launcher saying "Step Count" to help fill the screen out a bit.
Navigation:
For navigating the phone I use an app called fluid navigation. The way I have it configured, a short swipe from the bottom center is for home, a long swipe from the bottom center launches Google voice assistant. A short swipe from the bottom left would open a volume app called ultra volume this allows you to have many different volume panel setups, the one that I'm using is a horizontal bar that populates the entire bottom width of the screen. A long swipe from the bottom left would launch the native volume control panel. Swiping long or short from the bottom right would launch my app drawer. A short left swipe from the right bottom half will execute the back command, and a long swipe left will open the recents menu. A short swipe downwards from anywhere along the top will launch the bottom navigation bar app, and a long swipe will drop the navigation panel. I customized my navigation panel with an app called power shade, I have the paid version.
Apps:
I have quite a few apps loaded on the watch too many to mention here as this post is already very lengthy. Feel free to check out the video that I posted in this thread and you can pause while I'm scrolling through the app drawer to get an idea of some of the apps loaded on the watch. I have added a few more since the posting of that video, if there is enough interest I will compile a list of the apps and games that I have installed.
Conclusion:
I love this watch. I love that I can make it my own using the customization options that Android provides. The watch does have some quirks. I have to monitor it when charging because it tends to get pretty hot, sometimes. Also when running memory intensive apps the watch would heat up as well. There are times when the watch becomes unresponsive and I would need to do a soft reset, but thankfully that doesn't happen too often. The battery life is very impressive however, I cannot give an accurate estimate as to how long the battery would last during normal use because I am constantly tinkering with the watch. My main gripe is that although the watch is constantly connected to my home Wi-Fi or tethered to my phone, it would not always pick up notifications from apps that are connected to the web. I find myself periodically turning Wi-Fi off and then back on only to have a flood of notifications come through. Perhaps this is user error, or maybe it is a flaw in the watch software. Although these issues can be annoying it is by no mean a deal-breaker and has not tainted my enthusiasm or enjoyment of this watch. I hope this helps those who own this watch or similar watches to enjoy theirs as much as I enjoy mine. Feel free to engage me with questions or conversation as I really enjoy talking about this device.
