Won't charge unless I restart - Samsung Galaxy A71 5G Questions & Answers

Some weeks ago my phone developed a strange behavior. Very often, but not all the time, when I plug it in to recharge, it doesn't start charging unless I restart the phone.
My son suggested rooting and replacing Samsung android with Google android.
Any other suggestions?

Try in safe mode to rule out a 3rd party app.
Any new apps added or uninstalled when this started? If one was uninstalled it may have altered hidden user settings.
Try clearing the system cache from the boot menu.
Try a hard reboot by pressing the power button until it restarts.
It may be hardware, C port pcb. Try gently cleaning it with a clean toothbrush. The C port pcb can fail in a number of ways.
Regardless of the cause this isn't a good reason to root. Factory reset if you can't find it although it's far better to find the root cause. If you suspect malware a factory reset is in order.
Backup all your critical data now in case the problem escalates and obviously before a reset.
It's also very remotely possible the firmware was corrupted, reflash to stock rom if a factory reset fails. A Samsung Experience center at Best Buys can probably help you if you can't fix it. They have advanced diagnostic tools and can also reflash it.

[Q] LGL45C factory reset problems

Hi all, I come to you all in this time of great need. I have in my possession a LG Optimus Net or LGL45C as its know technically.
I started to suffer from problems from gapps resulting from uninstalling the Google Talk app(yes doing this in retrospect was incredibly stupid). After failing to resolve my problem when trying to re-install it, I decided to take the easy way and just do a factory reset and start from scratch. Little did I know what was to meet me. I was given the "Touch to the android to begin" screen like so many others, but it was not meant to be that simple. I would touch the android, and it would light gleefully but it would not reveal to me the next step and sit there motionless. So I proceeded to the next logical step, touching each corner in succession to skip the setup process. But no matter how many times I repeated it, nothing came of it. Next I booted into recovery mode(stock I never bothered to install CWM, another one of my mistakes) and did another factory reset, clear cache, etc. This too did not work. And I thought, there was always installing CWM through ADB where then I can then just flash to a stock ROM I downloaded. But Alas!! USB debugging some how got disabled and it was all fruitless. A little google-fu later I came across a method to flash .kdz using obscure LG utilities. With renewed hope I followed the steps but to no avail. Now I come to you stranger, and plead you in somehow help me in recovering some use of this phone. I have exhausted all my options and I hope someone out there read this and comes in my time of need. Sorry for the long block of text :silly::silly::silly::silly:
Having the same problem as you, bookface.
I couldn't install CWM from the links provided in another post, all lead to a 404 Dropbox page. This sucks. And when I tried to use the installer from Play, I got a dialog saying it's not compatible. Some would say to ignore it, it would be fine...
But if something doesn't feel right, don't do it, I've always been told...
So, I was rooted, but phone started acting funny. Done a factory reset. Since I didn't have CWM, I thought it would clear that mess up.
Nope, almost all apps crash. I'm lucky that at least the browser, Gmail, and music apps work, but everything else, including Google Play Store, all crash upon launch.
Net10's forum is a lame excuse as a "forum." Seems like TracFone employees have NO concept of how a forum works. I looked at there for the same issue, and they rather take software/hardware issues to private messages?
I have NO computer, my hubby's friend who helps him says "You have an Android tablet, that is a computer!" Technically, yes and no. Since I can't root that thing, it's useless. (If you want to know, Polaroid PMID709 4.1 with Rockchip RK29xx, and impossible to root fully, it's "semi-rooted".)
And I'm lost. I and my hubby need this phone to work. Because we need it fpr work (our jobs). And I'm getting sick of TracFone screwing up Android ROMs.
Please help!
youve made much more headway than i. trying to help my neighbor with his. he set a lockscreen password on his lgl34c and then promptly forgot it.
so upon a bit of research, this model is a doozie to work with. i had intended to overdeliver by flashing him a ROM that might allow some hotspotting and the like. upon closer inspection, i dont believe that i will be able to do that. at best a towelroot...
but ONLY IF i can get past this lockscreen. i've tried to factory reset by:
1) removing/replacing battery then holding vol down+power and waiting for LG splashscreen then releasing power (still holding vol down ) and then re-pressing(holding) power again
2) turning phone off and holding home+vol up+power and holding 30-40 sec
ive repeated both methods many many times, and these are the only methods that i have seen described in my google searching. in fact, yours is the most advanced post i have found yet.
how can i factory reset this phone without access to the settings menu?

Mate 9 factory reset itself without any reason

Hi everyone,
My device hard reset itself without any reason. I was walking outside and listened to a podcast through headphones when suddenly sound stopped. When I pull the phone out of the pocket I saw recovery screen “Low-level factory reset” and after a while, everything I had had on the phone before was just gone. I don’t remember that any other piece of human engineering made me so upset.
So, I didn’t touch my phone and it was offline (data disabled and no wifi around). It had MHA-L29C567B167 firmware and was rooted by this guide and then TWRP was replaced by the standard recovery (which probably made this hard reset possible). I haven’t done anything system related with the phone during last several weeks.
Did anyone else have the same problem? Do you have any ideas why the phone did it?
I had the same reset, when backup password on lockscreen (normally fingerprint) was filled in wrongly about nine times in succession.
Rogue app running as root? *shrug*
So frustrating
I had the same issue sooooo many times... The only way I found to stop this is to remove the password... I do open apps and all whilst the phone in my pocket... But at least it doesn't factory reset!!!!
so it happens after you input incorrect passwords after x amount of times?
Yes. After nine or ten times a wrong password, it did the factory reset. It happened due to a connected Bluetooth keyboard that wasn't turned off with key pressed for a long time by accident.
To prevent this problem from happening again I left TWRP flashed to the recovery partition. Now if the system requests recovery to factory reset TWRP will just ignore it.
Also, I found out that having Microsoft Outlook installed makes the problem worse. It reduce the number of incorrect PIN enter attempts. E.g. despite the fact that it displays "You have 4 more attemps" the device tries to factory resset.
I have these hard reset on me 3 times over the last 7 months. And 2 of these times, were happened when I was oversea. All my data are gone after it reset, and what make it worst was that I was oversea, and the 1st restoration process asked for WIFI setup & connection. Common, you are a foreign land on roaming (even with data), they still insist you need a WIFI connection before the restoration can continue.... a very frustrated experience especially you are oversea, and it happened to me twice with the most recent case - 2 days ago.... So, how do I activate TWRP?

Phone restarting after unlocking network

My phone was network locked, so I gave it to a technician to help me unlock it. The problem is now my phone restarts (I can use it, open apps ...) just after a few minutes which makes it unusable. I probably should do a factory reset but I still have some precious data on my phone that I don't wanna lose. Since the phone keeps restarting, I don't know how to copy said data before performing the factory reset. Another info that might be useful, my micro-usb port isn't working, which makes my problem worse. Can anybody help me with this?
If you have a second hand phone, try transferring all the data needed via Smartswitch

Weird stuff happening on phone

Hi all, my mom has an Motorola Moto G3 phone. Have noticed many weird things happening on the phone since yesterday.
The notification panel won't slide down. Also, no notifications are displayed in the notification bar, even when there are notifications, like receiving sms or messages on Whatsapp.
The phone has a swipe lock screen. But, the lock screen won't work, even though it shows in Security settings, that there is one.
Calls are being made from the phone, but no calls are being received. For example, if I call the phone, it says that the person is busy and the connection ends. My brother had also tried calling... same thing.
No apps can be downloaded or updated from the Play Store.
I tried to connect the phone to the PC, but, since I cannot slide down the notification panel, there is no way to change the connection mode to transfer data.
I should mention that the storage on the phone was getting close to being filled, and the phone was showing the warning that storage was less and that some of the functions might stop working. So, are these things because of that?
But, I did delete a lot of photos and videos and uninstalled apps, and now there is sufficient storage for the phone to run properly, but it still doesnt work, and these weird stuff are happening.
I suspect from the weird behavior that there might be a virus. Is that so?
What do I do? How will the phone return to sanity? How do I backup the data... if the solution is to factory reset the phone. There are important photos and videos and whatsapp data which I would like to save before performing a reset.
Any help will be appreciated.
A lot to cover there.
First Long press the power button whilst the phone is on.This will reboot to Safemode.See if you can now use a USB Data cable to backup what you need to your PC/Laptop/Tablet.
Note:Some USB cables are,"Charge Only" so check the USB cable is Data transfer capable.
Then if you have a Google account and are connected via Phone data or WiFi go Settings/Accounts/Google and untick and re-tick all sync options to make sure all your Google stuff is updated.
Then do a,"Hard Reset/Factory Restore.
Just put Moto G3 into youtube with the words Hard Reset,
https://www.youtube.com
Although a Hard reset seems like a big move I do one at least a couple of times a year as a kind of 10,000 mile service for my Android phones even if they are running well and it clears out all the junk I tend to accumulate and keeps them slick, fast and problem free.
HTH
Thanks a lot for your reply. Your post comes as a lifesaver.
I took a backup of the data by transferring stuff on to the SD card and then transferring the data from there to the computer.
I had booted in safe mode, but there too the phone showed same behavior. I also noticed that the home button, or the task manager button were not working too.
After taking the backup, I also changed the password for the Gmail account for security, in case the mobile was somehow compromised.
Then I wanted to do a factory reset, but the button seems to be greyed out, and there seems to be no way to perform a soft factory reset. So, your post comes at the nick of time to save me, as I was thinking what to do now. Thanks a ton!
Performed a hard reset of the phone, and the phone is working fine now. Everything is normal.
What might be the reason for such behavior though?
Not being able to lock the phone, install/update apps, factory reset... all this makes me think if it was some kind of malware.
Another reason I can think of is that the storage got full, and so these strange stuff started, but it should go back to normal when stuff was deleted and sufficient storage became available. Still, doesnt explain why lock wouldn't remain.... and other stuff. Really weird.
Modern,"Smart Phones" are very complex computers. With so many apps on them that get updated some updates don't always play nice and mess up the phones. You could spend hours tracking down a single app that might be a cause of a problem.
As you say as well the the storage on the phones might well have got clogged up with old Temporary data that has not been cleared out as it should.
For future reference another trick is to wipe the Cache partition from Recovery mode.I would have suggested this first but as you said space was running out it's best to have a clean start
Yes, it was good to have a clean start with the phone.
Thank you for that trick to wipe the cache partition from Recovery mode. Will keep that in mind.
Thanks a lot again.

Question ZFlip 3 won't fully boot occasionally

Hello,
I have a ZFlip 3 that will sometimes boot up properly, and then work fine until it turned off again. But sometimes the phone will boot to the "Samsung Galaxy"/"Powered by Android" screen then turn off.
The phone is fully stock/non-rooted.
Any ideas?
Thanks.
Try clearing the system cache.
Try in safe mode repeatedly, buggy 3rd party app. If so find it.
Did you do any major firmware upgrades without doing a factory reset afterwards?
Did you use SmartSwitch?
If so factory reset; do a clean load and don't use SmartSwitch.
Look at the Log files or...
A Samsung Experience center at best buys can run advanced diagnostics on it if one is convenient to you.
There
I have had this exact same issue with mine, but when I took it to the repair place they said that the phone had nothing wrong with it. my theory is that some internal process is sending large amounts of data to the cache, its strange because even if I factory reset and clear cache it still goes back into the state after a few hours.
