Question Is this really the best camera phone on Dxo mark?? - Huawei P50 Pro

Im at 12.0.1.242 version witch is Very laggy but anyway let's talk about night mode..
Wtf is this??? I think im capturing fotos with redminote 8 pro

Yes it is the best, and I also think DXO were quite humble while rating camera and sensors.
I rarely use night mode since sensor is quite sensitive to low light (P30P P40P RYYB, P450 is RGGB but very sensitive anyway). I do believe that P50 is a step ahead. With GSpace ... you have it all.
Back to laggyness - it usually takes 1-2 secs in Auto mode to get a decent photo in total dark. Real "Night mode" is slow on each phone, so that's another story.
I have my P30/p40/50 pros, I can send you some photos to compare if you wish.

DXO has rating the model with the Kirin processor, all the models with Snapdragon are disaster for the battery and image processing

OnePlus camera for Nokia 6

So here's the OnePlus camera for the Nokia 6, for those who want it.
It seems to be working fine but here's a list of issues I've found in this version :
1) Video isn't working properly, says there's an error.
2) Same with slow motion. Doesn't seem to work.
3) Couldn't see any difference with HDR off and On.
4) Panorama doesn't start properly.
BUT HERE'S A GOOD THING!
The Professional Mode is working perfectly. There's a histogram and all. In Pro mode, everything seems good and we have full manual control of the camera. So ISO, Shutter speed, Manual focus and White Balance and all that is working properly and the results are decent. Swipe up from below to see the options and to go Pro Mode.
Kinda disappointed cos Nokia 6 hardware only allows 0.6s slowest shutter speed but it's still good enough for casual photography I guess.
Anyway, install, test and have fun!
Have you tried Adobe Lightroom it's good too
Yes I have.

The highest and lowest shutter speed remains same in all camera apps for the Nokia 6. The highest shutter speed for this phone is 1/8000 and the slowest is 0.6s.

Oh, Thanks... Is it possible to increase the shutter speed?
ASUS Zenfone 3 Max uses the same processor as Nokia 6 and can take pictures with 32 second exposure.
Is it better to take Nokia 6 with its Google camera compatibility or Honor 8 Lite which has 8 second exposure?

No, I don't think it can be increased. It's fixed for this phone. But you can do Light Painting with ProShot. And Google camera performance is pretty decent with HDR. But of course a slower shutter speed is better. For some people anyway. I personally prefer slower shutter speeds. For night time and long exposure photography.

Thanks! Is the light painting mode in ProShot is the same as that in honor 8 Lite? I have in mind could achieve effects such as silky water, light trails, star trails, etc?And could light painting mode can be used simply for lighter night shots, not for any of these effects?
Here's an example.

I'm not sure about the Honor 8 Lite since I haven't tried it but yes, normally, light painting can help with silky water effect and such. You'll obv need a tripod tho cos light painting is very tricky. On this phone with Proshot anyway. It can produce good results, but It's still not better than a slower shutter speed.
Here's an example of what I did with a laser pointer and Light Painting. As you can see, the flow in that picture is broken and you'll have to move the pointer really slowly for it to be continuous. Idk if it's Proshot in general or the phone's HW, but yeah that's how it is.
If you're into photography, I'd say go for the slower shutter speed.
I tried uploading the image but it's not working. So here's a link for the image :

I've already seen this video but I don't know is there a difference between the honor 8 and the Lite version? I mean the build quality, if the same, the phone is good.
The new version of OP Cam allows to shoot with 10s of shutter speed but it does not work on Nokia. Are there any one who can mod it for working?

Still room for more improvement in Essential's monochrome camera? How does P20 do it?

So as seen on dxomark , the Huawei P20 pro is now the king of phone cameras, and one key thing is that it has a second monochrome camera just like the essential. Perhaps they figured out how better to "utilize" the monochrome camera much better than the devs at Essential?
i love my essential and i think is hope that it can be even better!

There are a lot of ways to use the monochrome camera.
You can possibly use the image for increased dynamic range or contrast.
I use the Google Camera port for most shots, and use the OEM camera for B/W shots, which it does very well.

How do they do it? Better hardware that's how
I don't think the way Huawei incorporates both cameras is better hardware, it's much better software. Huawei uses what they have better.

The hardware itself, i.e. the cameras, are better quality. We can argue this all day, but you can only polish a turd so much (fix poor quality hardware with software)
The P20 Pro takes amazing pictures because Huawei put an amazing primary sensor (and lenses) in the phone along with good image processing.
GCam demonstrates the limit of image processing (taking low-light images being more detailed than the monochrome camera on the stock app) but without better camera hardware that's as far as this phone can go.
What better hardware? The P20 can get about 50% more light per pixel which is half a stop which amounts to nothing in the photography world. DSLR sensors gather 10 times or more light than phone cams and yet DSRLs are dying.
In the smartphone camera world, software is everything. Remember that the LG G6 has the same sensors as the PH-1 and yet its DXO scores for texture and noise are way higher than both the P20 and the Pixel 2. And that's the scores for just a single sensor. The Xiaomi 5s also has the same sensor pair in the same arrangement as the PH-1 and the combined output trounces any single sensor in the smartphone world.
Essential is really behind in their software department, notwithstanding their commitment in software support. Despite of the fact the camera designer was the one behind the iPhone's portrait mode, their software still can't live up to hardware potential. The current stock cam app, even with combined sensor output, can't come close to some GCam mods which use just a single sensor.
---------- Post added at 12:08 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:03 AM ----------
The P20 Pro, on the other hand, got the good low light quality only in 10MP mode which pixel-bins the 40MP down to 10MP. Its texture and noise scores are still no better the than the G6. At 40MP its low light quality is worse than crap.
Yeah no.
You can't go using "it's nothing compared to DSLR's" when the difference is 50% more light per pixel. DSLR's are not dying because of quality but because it's convenient to have a good enough camera in your phone.
Obviously software is the key for modern cellphone imagery, that isn't even the point here. We already know what better processing does for the Essential sensor in the GCam mod. Which also works on the G6 incidentally and yields generally better results than LG's own app. But on the whole it's not nearly as good as the Pixel 2 for instance. Don't give me "but DXO said" because even G6 users don't believe they do better.

I didn't say "it's nothing compared to DSLR's" . If you don't understand, I'll say it again: 50% more light is half a stop which is nothing in the photography world. Do you even know what 50% more light means?
DSLRs have better hardware, but are dying not because of lack of convenience, but because quality from smartphone are good enough these days. Convenience was always there from the beginning of the smartphone age, but quality has only gotten good enough a few years recently. DSLRs always have the hardware advantage, but smartphone have the software and that's what make the difference.
And G6 users can't do better than Pixel 2 like DXO because they don't know what to do to get as good as DXO, at least in terms of texture and noise. "On the whole" is another matter since it's the whole package, which means Google software is much better than LG software. Well, it's the software that makes the difference. That's the point I'm making. It's not the camera hardware, it's the software. Differences in smartphone camera hardware are peanuts.
He also neglects to mention OIS on the g6.
Also, the Xiaomi Mi 5s Plus has the exact same design, with the same two Sony IMX258 sensors, one RGB and one Monochrome, no OIS, and it has the exact same problems with low light, even in daylight, and shutter lag. That phone was released a year ago. So Xiaomi proved this idea is a failure.

Since you mentioned OIS, what does OIS do to make the sensor output better, specifically texture and noise quality? If you don't know, it does exactly jack squat nothing to the sensor. It helps with the whole package, but that doesn't make people like it more than the Pixel 2.
And the Xiaomi 5s is not a failure, at least in terms of camera quality. The least you could do when trying to argue against it is to look up review results for yourself. Look at the comparison tool at GSMarena for the 5s in stereo mode compared to any other phone cam, instead of talking about something you know nothing about. People make the results and tools available and you don't even bother to look at. Sad!
Why people make unsubstantiated claims about something they don't understand or even try to learn about? Opinions can always be different, but at least have some informed opinion.

Lol you're one to talk. You don't think OIS effects low light photos? Interesting. You should do some reading. Noise levels in low light are highly related to OIS.
It is ranked about the same as essential phone by most reviewers.

Absolutely not. OIS reduces vibration from your hands to help getting sharper images. Same exposure parameters with or without OIS give exactly the same noise level. It does nothing to help noise from sensor. If you think it does, explain or cite how it does.
The effectiveness of OIS on smartphones is dubious at best due to the very short focal length on most phones. If it's really effective, those gimbals wouldn't be in high demand or that expensive. But this is another matter unrelated to the photo quality of sensor output.

"If your camera meters the need for a slow shutter speed which will cause camera shake, there are two ways to switch to a faster shutter speed:
1. Open up the aperture. Opening up the aperture (makes the hole bigger and therefore) allows more light to come in and so reduces the time the shutter needs to stay open. ["Shutter speed" is simply the time the camera keeps the shutter open.]
2. Often, especially in low-light situations, this will not even give you a fast enough shutter speed to hand hold the camera, so the second way is to use a higher ISO."
"At this slow shutter speed and without using a tripod, we will obtain a blurred image if we hand hold the camera. But, with Image Stabilization, we are now able to hand hold the camera without worrying about camera shake (1/15 sec. is 2 stops slower than 1/60 sec.).
If the light level falls further and the camera now needs an even slower shutter speed, say of 1/4 sec. (that's 4 stops slower than 1/60 sec.: 1/60 sec., 1/30 sec., 1/15 sec., 1/8 sec., 1/4 sec.), Image Stabilization will not help us eliminate camera shake in this case. It will, however, reduce its effect.
Note that IS works irrespective of the ISO used. Whereas High ISO forces you to use a high ISO (with resulting high noise and image degradation issues *1), IS allows you to keep at a low ISO while still reducing camera shake (thus keeping maximum image quality). That is, it does not mess with your selected exposure settings (you keep the shutter speed, aperture and ISO you want to use)"

Hmm, that's a lot of quote, but not sure how much you understand or believe in all that. How do you adjust any of those settings with any (except one) cam app?
Whatever exposure setting you take a picture at with OIS on, I can take another picture at the same setting with OIS off. The noise level will be exactly the same. There might be a difference in sharpness, but how much difference will depend on how firm I can hold the camera or if I use an external stabilization device or not.
Like I've said, it helps with the whole package, but it doesn't explain how the G6 get higher noise score than the Pixel 2 which also has OIS. It's all in the software.

What that user was trying to convey is OIS let's you use a slower shutter with less motion blur due to camera shake. Slower shutter equals lower ISO, which likely results in less noise. This doesn't help for moving subjects though.

That's the theory. Slower shutter speed *requires* lower ISO for the same lighting level, since the aperture is fixed. But in practice, I wouldn't give it up like that, but rather try to brace myself to reduce vibration or just use a stabilization device/tripod so I can shoot at the same exposure setting and get the same acceptable noise level.

I think you have it backwards.
A slow shutter allows you to use a low ISO.
A fast shutter requires a high ISO.
This assumes shutter an not aperture priority.
Also 1/focal length is the minimum shutter speed to not have noticeable shake at correct lighting.
I feel like this has gone a tad off topic. Not to say its completely irrelevant but I feel the starting point is, us comparing both the Ph1's and the P20 implementation to know whats different.

Which one should I buy? Samsung S9 or Honor 10?

Guys, I am planning to purchase a flagship recently, Samsung S9 was my favour before known Honor 10 from Honor hub of XDA ‘【The New Species in Color】Honor 10 makes Galaxy S9 looks boring!!!’. Honestly, the colour Aurora violet impressed me a lot. S9 looks a little bit boring (S9 still looks much better than iPhone 8) compared with Honor 10. Exclude the ID design, the specification of Honor 10 still not worse than S9.
It is no doubt the absolute performance of Kirin 970 is slightly weaker than Snapdragon 845 or Exynos 9810, but the high performance of 845 can do nothing exclude game! (Well, I’m not a gaming addict) In contrast, the NPU innovated in 970 is awesome, especially utilised for scene recognition and semantic image segmentation mode in camera. To illustrate this two AI technology, I quote the official explanation from Honor below:
The Honor 10’s AI camera was developed and supported by the NPU processor in the Kirin 970 chipset, which means it recognises 500+ scenarios in 22 categories real-time. It can pinpoint the outlines of various surrounding objects, like the sky, plants, people and waterfall, and identify their locations. This feature is supported by the industry-first Semantic Image Segmentation technology, which allows the Honor 10 to identify multiple objects in one single image. It is here where the Honor 10 stands out from the crowd at the first place. Furthermore, the industry-first Honor 10 features apply scene-specific parameters to each photo real-time when taking a picture, making every photo you take professional at just one click.
IT’S REALLY COOL!!!!
I’m sure there will be more AI utilizations in the future based on NPU. Currentlutilizationisation of new technology on the phone is much more rational than pursuing absolute performance blindly.
In the unlock aspects, S9 has iris recognition, facial recognition and fingerprint on the back. But I prefer the ultrasonic fingerprint on Honor 10 since it not only located on the front but also work with a wet finger. By the way, the facial recognition also present on Honor 10 lol…
And the battery of Honor 10 is 3400mAh which is more than 3000mAh in S9. I think Samsung is too conservative on both battery capacity and fast charge after the issue of Note 7, the small battery and outdated 18V fast-charging technology make S9 less attractive. Moreover, the SuperCharge of Honor provides 5V 4.5A = 22.5W keeps phone cool when charging compared with the high voltage 18W QC2.0 (9V 2A). The cool SuperCharge makes me feel more reliable than hot QC2.0, cause I always worry that my Galaxy S7 ‘Boom’ when I charging, it’s really hot!!!
Honor 10 has launched in China last week, ¥2599 (€340) for 64GB; ¥2999 (€391) for 128GB which is much cheaper than Galaxy S9 (nearly €1,000).
As the global launch event will be held on May 15th in the UK, I am so curious about the price. Here I listed some of the core specs of the two phones.
What price do you guys think this psychedelic new phone from Honor is going to be?
€400 or €500?
I have prepared €1,000 for S9 before, but now I think I can purchase two Honor 10 for me and my wife lol…
I would choose Honor 10.I just like huawei more.Price quality and specs ratio hands down for honor 10.
I would buy nokia 7 plus for superior build quality and stock android and faster updates and good battery
With Honor 10 in my hands for 4 days, I would say go buy it if you don't mind the over saturated camera, especially the overly airbrushed human faces in photos. So much for "AI camera"... I regretted my ¥2999.

Ok, that sounds terrible! Can you post some inages, with and without AI. some faces, plants, landscapes/city images? that would be greatly appreciated!
"especially the overly airbrushed human faces in photos."
Ah, but that makes the images 'professional' apparently. I think I'll stick to a proper, straight set of images that I can post process, should I so choose, with photoshop...
If honor 10 will launch in India with base variant at 35k then there is no competition with oneplus 6. Everyone go for the oneplus 6 at 37k. Also honor has unspecified version of gorilla glass protection. But oneplus 6 has gorilla glass 5. Last time honor launched it's honor v10 that has some of the better specs with it's bigger battery and price at just 30k of 128gb variant and also the display quality.
"Can you post some inages, with and without AI. some faces, plants, landscapes/city images? ..."
Unfortunately I don't have much spare time during the day - but I will try but not very soon.
"but that makes the images 'professional' apparently"
I guess those PS effect automation is the so-called "intelligence" of current camera-hype. I just don't like the overexposed and airburshed fake faces - some might like it though.
Colleage of mine who has s8+ said to me the same thing. He owned Piexl 1 before and would go back to Pixel 3 (when out) solely for the camera department.
Apart from camera the fingerprint recognition of Honor 10 is hardly usable with dry hands - face unlock is fatastic though.

You can, only partially. It has apeture, portrait and photo mode. In portrait mode you can set beauty level and photo mode has AI switch. I have set beauty level 0 and AI off - improving to some extent - but to me the photos are still overexposed and unnatual.
Selfie camera is more obvious even with beauty level 0.
BTW the phone was bought from China in a trip and I live in NZ so returning is a real challenge. I decided to keep it despite of the annoyances. I like the size and the looks of the body, dual sim functionality, and able to customise the UI to my liking...

Photo quality

Say "cheese", then rate this thread to express how photos taken with the Samsung Galaxy A70 come out. A higher rating indicates that photos offer rich color (without over-saturating), sharp detail (with all subjects in-focus), and appropriate exposure (with even lighting).

Compared to the camera of the 3 years old S8+ (my wife's mobile), I find the camera of the A70 very very weak.
takes good pictures in bright light, however, once your light levels get lower the quality is bad (very grainy)
Is there any app one can suggest to use the sensor better? i find the camera modes not using the sensor to full capacity
i found that ALL the apps i tried see the sensor as 8 Mpix only
All the photo apps I have found show the main camera to be 8 mpix, this is due to Samsung using pixel binning which combines 4 pixels into 1 large pixel to try and improve low light pictures. So 32 divided by 4 gives 8 mpix images and all the apps including the gcam apk only see 8 mpix. Even raw mode apps such as light room show 8 mpix and produce around 15 mpix raw images. I have just seen a youtube review of the new xiaomi note 10 with a 108 mpix camera that pixel bins down to 27 mpix but interestingly has the ability to take a full 108 mpix image, although the images are not as good as the pixel binned ones I assume it would allow for full raw images to be taken which could be edited in light room. So the xiaomi is advertised as 108 and has the option for 108 images. The a70 is advertised as 32 with no way to take a 32 image imho this is false advertising, I am not aware of an app that allows pixel binning to be turned off but the xiaomi shows it can be done. What is needed is someone to develop an app to turn it off or like gcam develop the xiaomi camera app to use on other phones including the ability to use the full resolution. If anyone does know how to turn pixel binning off please comment. I do love the phone but the camera is the weakest aspect.
I didn't buy this phone for the camera. The phone was half the price of a Pixel device. The camera is an upgrade over my previous device which has a camera from 2014. I agree the A70 is not even in the same league as the devices that cost more. I recommend using the money saved and buy a standalone camera if you are serious about photography. I can overlook this flaw because I don't take a lot of pictures.

You can use full 32mb mode. In the camera app you see 3:4 , change it to the one that has 3:4H
Well back camera is ok - but front ? ... am I wrong - doesn't it have autofocus ? Is that possible ?

Hi the 3x4h setting produces an 8mb image pixel binned from the 32mb lens, if you check the size of the images they are 4 to 6mb, they should be 4x as big with a 32mb lens. There is currently no way to get a full 32mb image either jpeg or raw, thats why all the camera apps show a max res of 8mb.

When I chose the 3:4H mode in the stock camera I get images with a resolution of 6528x4896 which is 32mp.

Hi, Swizzy, the a70 camera pixel binns at 4 to 1, once the image is taken at 6528x4896 the processing combines 4 pixels to 1 increasing the pixel size to improve low light, this gives a finished image quater the size hence 8mp.
Check the gcam port thread and the comments people made about gcam only showing the main camera as 8mp.
Install gcam 6.2
I use default camera only for ultrawide and to use depht sensor on objects

Camera is not weak, even if is good light. But keep in mind this is mid range. Older S8+ is flagship in which was added the best what was that time. So it's normal that Samsung S8+ maybe doing better photo, how u writing. But I have Samsung A70 and I can say for daily personal usage it is enough good quality and is not a shame to share it for others people, friends. Yes in bad light photo have a little bit noise. Keep in mind and fact that this is not professional camera, noise doing S8+ too. Noise at all is not good thing and with this facing a lot of smartphone and it doesn't matter which status it is: mid range or flagship, but that's why this phone or any newest other (probably, i'm not sure about very cheap mid range) have night mode which doing a little bit better photo as normal mode. Also, maybe my requirements is not so big as yours for camera, but a lot of experts, owners said that this is pretty good camera in generally. Photo is enough detailed and bright if you don't zooming it too much. If say honest strange thing is too take photo and zoom it a lot of at all. I looking into normal photo and don't looking for convergences of pixels, details
I found in youtube S8+ vs A70 camera compare (it is not yours? ), so maybe this will help to see others better and do not trust just yours negative opinion about this phone's camera (without fact that in bad light photo is really not good and have a little bit noises if say softy)
Video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BpvpPzRnpog
My opinion in this video S8+ doing too colored photo. I like photo in which is real colors, but is not too much bolded. Red looks like creepy red, too much red here as possible to see. That's artificial, not real image. Brightness is enough the same from both models, of course there is some fusions in photo taken with Samsung A70, but these fusions most time is see when you zooming a lot of photo or doing that with camera as I mentioned. Then details is with noise a little bit, But I really don't know where did you found weakness in A70 camera (sounds from you like A70 photo is very bad what is not true my opinion and how I saw from others about this phone ), my opinion as I mentioned A70 doing enough good photo. I'm not professional photographer, but I seeing into phone camera not like in professional device with which you can do very impressive quality photo - even in night or when is bad light, so maybe that's why my strictness is not so big as probably yours. Also keep in mind most mobile camera in bad light doing photo with noise, S8+ is not exception as I mentioned too and S8+ is flagship. So maybe compare S8+ with S9 or better S10???

I disagree. Sony than from afar does not match with Samsung's mid range or Samsung smartphones at all. For example: in my location is selling now Sony Xperia 10 Plus (price 360 euros) and Samsung A70 (price 337 - 350), the same shop, but Samsung A70 different colors have a little bit different prices. So prices is almost the same, right? But let's see what is inside phones:

This is not all specifications, but my opinion most important in smartphone. As you can see in most thing Samsung A70 is much more better as Sony which have biggest price a little bit, but looks much more worst as Samsung. I agree if you want to say that Chinese manufacturers making better smartphone for the same prices, yes i could buy Xiaomi Mi 9T, which in my location from the same shop cost 328 euros. But Xioami Mi9T:
1. Is Chinese smartphone. I have Xiaomi (Amazfit smart watch), so i know how they like to do a lot of bugs in software and how hard to fix it, to present world wide features, but most of them do not add in international versions.
2. Amazfit's, which is part of Xioami, support is very bad, agents looks like assholes from child's garden. But maybe with Xioami this problem is not exit, some saying it different support quality, but after smart watch i don't trust this company anymore. Even when is a lot of bugs in watch and so hard they fixing it.
3. This is compare of all these models https://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=9646&idPhone2=9591&idPhone3=9738#diff- in which you can see that Xioami Mi9T is a little more powerfull smartphone compare with these models (Qualcomm SDM730 Snapdragon 730 (8 nm), Octa-core (2x2.2 GHz Kryo 470 Gold & 6x1.8 GHz Kryo 470 Silver), Adreno 618), but i heard that apps like to force close often, maybe it's already fixed, but... also haven't memory card which for me is very important. Camera in Xioami Mi9T is much more better as Samsung A70 (48 MP, f/1.8, 26mm (wide), 1/2.0", 0.8µm, PDAF, 8 MP, f/2.4, 53mm (telephoto), 1/4.0", 1.12µm, PDAF, 2x optical zoom, 13 MP, f/2.4, 12mm (ultrawide), 1/3.1", 1.12µm), also recording is [email protected], [email protected]/120/240fps, [email protected], included steady shot. But battery is only Non-removable Li-Po 4000 mAh battery with only Fast battery charging 18W. So i disagree that Samsung compare quality and price is bad, coz Sony here looks much more worst and even compare with Xiaomi Samsung is not so bad. Some specifications better have Xioami, some Samsung. Which by the way is very important to me.

Ahem, no. Just no.
I agree with all who say that photo quality is terrible. I had an S8, the pictures taken with that looked very good out of the box. The picture processing on the A70 is just awful:
-It oversharpens way too much, especially in low light, the sharpening halos are painful to look at
-It does overly aggressive noise reduction which results in a serious lack of detail. Even by just zooming in a little bit it becomes clear that however the image looks "sharp" in 0% magnification there are literally no details captured as they are killed by the noise reduction
One other thing I don't really understand, is that the standard camera resolution is 4032x3024=12,1k=12 Megapixels. How can it be 12 megapixels, if the quad-bayer arrangement should result in 32/4=8 Megapixels, as the Gcam records in? If somebody could explain this i would be really happy.
I actually compared the photos from the A70 with my old (still working good) galaxy s5, and i was shocked, as in many scenarios the S5 actually produced much more detailed and vibrant pictures. That's when I decided to try the GCAM. I'm so happy right now, as this actually brings up the A70 camera quality to the level of the Galaxy s8 which I had previously as a company phone. With the GCAM the pictures are looking flagship-camera like with details properly captured, white balance is spot on (stock camera messes that up too, it takes too warm pictures almost in all scenarios), and the dynamic range is excellent too. And most importantly, there is no hideous oversharpening going on with the GCAM.
I'll link the images soon when i have a chance to upload them.

Can you elaborate on that? I just wrote a comment, let me quote the respective part:

8mp interpolated to 32mp
what the hell is binning?
it is good old interpolation
this is an awful phone, awful camera quality, (because of an awful sensor)
no software support, one ui 1.0 is far worse than its rivals.
they marketed the one ui 2.0 and android 10 updates, but they are constantly postponed... to an unknown date...
because the lier company is busy with releasing other crap phones (like the a71, 51 vsvs)
they do not have any respect to the old customers, they just flood market
by flood marketing, every 3-4 months they release 3-4 new crap models, they are almost the same hardware as the older models.
they have many marketing lies, and they hope to fool more new customers by these marketing lies.
Yep the camera is terrible.
I was hoping they would do something via updates - but no.
I love the screen, size is great for me. Performance is good for my use, battery good. In screen finger print sensor is sub par but I can put up with it.
But the camera - oh dear - it's not as if the phone is a cheap and nasty phone - but the pictures it takes look like it is....
In most respects it's the best phone I have ever had (I don't do flag ships) - but they camera!!
I think you get the picture (pun intended).
Cheers
I posted an article on samsung community with pictures to compare the stock cam to gcam in lower light conditions. Also, I explain how the 32 megapixel sensor ends up shooting 12 MPG photos with "pixel binning". Let me quickly sum that up here as more people were asking this:
The 32MP camera is used in pixel binning mode, that results in a 8 MP shot (4 pixels are grouped as 1), AND the software actually UPSCALES that 8 MP shot to 12 by basically stretching the image with some AI quality retain helping process. What the actual hell. So yeah. Basically this phone takes 8 megapixel photos, which are then enlarged to 12.
I would have never thought that samsung would pull something as cheap as this on their customers. I'm now at a point that I'm going to use this phone for now, as it was basically free when I joined a phone fleet, but when it will come to my money, I will never opt for a samsung again. This is a shame btw, as the phone itself is not bad actually. Screen is epic, the battery is killer, and oneUI is actually very good, seems quite fluent and polished. Unfortunately the photo quality is not only bad thing (WIFI download speed is sluggish, touchscreen has sensitivity and touch registering issues, and fingerprint sensor is very unreliable), but the most ridiculous is the camera by far.
Below is my topic for the photo quality.

108MP camera incompatible with MediaTek Dimensity 800U?

The more i read about the Motorola Edge 20 Fusion, i more i want to buy it, but there is a piece of information which i would like to make sense of.
The phone comes with a 108MP main shooter, but the phone's MediaTek Dimensity 800U SoC only supports cameras upto 64MP.
I need to understand what this means in a technical sense:
Will the phone, using either the default camera app or some other app, for eg. OpenCamera, be able to shoot 108MP images?
If not, are (108 - 64 = )36 megapixels just going to be dummies which won't be used at all?
If the whole sensor is going to be used, how is the SoC going to handle the raw data from the sensor? Will the SoC process the raw data in parts?
Is this going to keep the 108MP sensor from realising its full potential?
I am not basing my buying decision on the camera's megapixel count, it may be a marketing gimmick anyways. I know that megapixel count doesn't always translate to picture quality. My current phone, a Motorola G5S Plus has a 13MP rear cam and that megapixel count is enough for me. I am basically going for this phone for the screen and the stock Android experience.
I just need to understand if this is an indicator for any issues etc. which i should know if i buy the phone.
Thanks.

So i have already bought the edge 20 fusion. But even before buying it i was extremely confused when i saw that 800u does not support a 108 mp camera.
I even searched for this on the internet on various forums, but there was nothing. I guess no one else had noticed that till now.
So i went ahead and bought it anyway as i am a Stock android fan and also just like you ,i wanted to experience the 10bit Amoled screen.
So I think that it maybe a marketing gimmick because the camera performance is definitely not like a 108 mp unit, actually far from it. Lets just say it's bad.
Only good thing about it is that, it performs decently in natural light in the outdoors.. that's it.
BUT
if you are going only for the screen and the stock android experience, you won't be disappointed. The screen is really THE BEST in this range. No complaints with the OS as well.
I don't regret buying the phone. But yes, camera should be better at this price (maybe software updates can optimise it a little)
I found no other issue(software or hardware). The battery performance is also very impressive.
Make of it what you will.
I hope this helps
Hi,
I have also purchased Moto Edge 20 Fusion and using it for around 1 month now. Excellent phone. Regarding Primary Camera they are doing Pixel Binning and providing 12 MP photos. They are also using sensor for giving better low light images. There is also option to select full resolution which gives 80 MP image which has size of 12 to 14 MB.
They still have work to do on camera app which moto is working on. In their forum they have said that a update for camera is in the works and soon they will release the same. After the update hope everything will fall in place as far as camera is concerned.
Following are the points in which it accels -
1. Display
2. Battery ( It lasts for 36 to 48 hours for me with SOT ranging from 7 to 9 hours which is damn good
3. Stock Android
4. Hopefully Camera (after the update)
5. 3.5 mm Jack
6. 30W charging with Charger and type c to type c cable included
7. Thinkshield mobile Security
