Question How does this phone compare to the Asus ZenFone 8? - Sony Xperia 5 III

Thinking of buying this phone, after my ZenFone died for the 2nd time. How do they compare, and does Sony allow you to unlock the bootloader?

Good to know! Will the warranty be void if I do this, even if I relock it?

I have the 8 Flip (same spec with the 8 and same OS) and the 5 III.
The ZenFone 8 have best a more powerful grip of the cellular network.
Sony better audio quality and screen quality.
Both have os experience like android stock with minor options like dynamic vibration for Xperia 5 III and native call record for the Fone 8.
Warranty void depending on your country. For me in France no warranty void with unlocked bootloader.

Good to know. Telecoms in my country don't support anything besides Samsung and Apple, so poor cell support is a given anyways XD

New phone. Money no object. Help me select.

New work phone that will be bought from the carrier. Price no consideration. The carrier is selling these phones unlocked and types modem shouldn't be and issue. The company just gives me a phone every 2 years and pays carrier fees. No maintenance, extras, out of warranty fixes or accessories added. Will own this phone in a year of working for them. I tend to update and maintain my phones and I dabble in Android development.
Most important critera:
Good reception and call quality
Sturdyness
Easy and cheap to fix
Good mod community and long time mod support (preferably with NFC intact)
Middling importance:
Battery.
Size (not 5.5+)
Camera
Decently dust/waterproof
Not important:
Screen quality (above 720p)
Storage (above 16GB)
CPU/GPU
Weight
Wifi reception
MicroSD
Wireless charging
Fingerprint/retina scan
Speakers
Front camera
Available choices (leaving out some older generation devices):
HTC 10
Huawei P9 Titanium
Samsung Galaxy A5 A510
Samsung Galaxy S7
Samsung Galaxy Xcover 3 G389
Sony Xperia M5
Sony Xperia X
Sony Xperia X Performance
Sony Xperia XA
Sony Xperia XZ
ZTE Axon 7
Leaning towards the Xperia XZ. Samsung seems to be no good for mod support in recent generations. Don't know about HTC, ZTE and Huawei.

Don't go for Samsung their ram management is not to good
And google out the other models and compare them
OP3T is sadly not an option. Work is buying what I ask for from the list above. The main criteria is ease of repair and mod support for the models in the list.

I have a purchase question

So I've been meaning to trade in my ZenFone 2 ze551ml for a while now after I heard its not getting nougat and that the one marshmallow update is all ZenFone 2 is getting due to Intel limitations
So well I wanted to get a new phone and I have a budget of 20,000 rupees
I have a few requirements that I need apart from that everything additional is just a cherry on top
1. Decently fast and optimised with minimal bloatware
2. 4gb ram minimum
3. Something that may be update at least 2 years down the line... I used to be well informed about these things after I got my zenfone 2 and heard its disappointing update schedule but right now I'm kind of busy with studies and have lost track of it
4. A nice display with sunlight legibility
5. Fast charging and over 3000 mah battery preferred
6. VOLTE like really badly with dual SIM functionality
Dual volte if there is any or one volte and one LTE will do
6. Fingerprint scanner isn't a must but would be appreciated
7. And also a phone that has a decent xda community for roms and is relatively the easiest to root and unlock as I used to do it a lot on my note 2 but have lost practice in the past 2 years
I short listed a few devices and would like ure opinions about them before I purchase any...
1. Zuk z2 plus (zuk subsidiary as I know has been shut down recently due to Lenovo doing budget cuts)
2. Mi5 the 4 th ram variant isn't available in India so I'm missing out one of the key features there itself
3. Moto g5 plus
4. Nubia z17 mini
5. Or should I wait for the one plus 3 or 3t prices to drop in a month or 2 ( preferably don't want to wait too long but if I must I must)
6. Redmi note 4
7. Decent storage options in the price point.
Thank u for ure replies and I'm sorry to be a bother
Yes I can check all these and previously I have but right now I'm kinda on a time constraint to do the research
Also if u have any suggestions that may be Better than the ones listed please do tell
Also as a bonus if I can find a phone with ois in this price point will be even better

OnePlus 7 Pro vs ROG phone 2

Thought I'll start a thread on a comparison between these two phones. Just looking for people that owns both ROG phone 2 and OnePlus 7 Pro to do a comparison on which they prefer with like pros and cons
Ok what is a ROG phone 2 ?
And if you owned one would you own both, and be able to compare. ?
But a ROG phone 2 is ???
ROG Phone 2 has 2 USB C connectors, a non proprietary fast charging spec and a headphone jack. Also you can get one with more storage space.
The ROG Phone 2 in its currently released version has terrible band support in the US, in other words its ability to actually work as a phone is a joke within the USA.
The ROG phones also do not have as good as software support as compared to Oneplus.
Reasons to buy a ROG phone:
You want a headphone jack and fast charging, you want to charge and listen to music at the same time
You live in china where it gets signal or your do not plan to get phone service
Reasons to buy 7 Pro:
You plan to have a phone provider and want to use the phone in places without wifi.
You want stable software and updates.

Not for me....

Pls give your opinions

1. I have recently bought remi note 7 pro(6gb and64gb) but I am over thinking that I should have bought Vivo u20 at 11000 rs .
2. Am I right or I am over thinking.
3. I have to use the phone for at least 4 years Or
4 .should i have bought another phone that I have not thought about.

1. In comparison between the Note 7 Ro and Vivo U20, RN7 Pro has a clean win.
Here are some cons of the U20:
i) Lack of USB Type C port
ii) Plastic Backside (RN7 Pro has Gorilla Glass 5)
iii) Lack of 48MP sensor
iv) Lack of community support (You can never get as much community support as a RN7 Pro)
And all this at a price difference of ₹1000 ($14)?
2. Well, even now the phone's on the road to being outdated by its own successors within 6-8 months. This would occur to every device you buy, unless it's a high end flagship. At this range even the Note 8 Pro gives you better specs. The hardware is quite good tho, even though it might become out-dated, it's capable of running almost any task... The community support is amazing as well. Check out the ROM section and you'd be surprised to find the vast number of ROM's available.

Opinions welcome: ROG Phone 5 vs Xperia 5 II

Hello,
I am going to upgrade my good old LG G5 (running LineageOS 17.1) next week,
and after careful filtering in GSMArena, I have narrowed down my options to ROG Phone 5 and Xperia 5 II,
both models are similarly priced, and they feature most of the specifications I was looking for, with some (less painful) difference:
3.5mm Jack, Dual Speakers, Big fast storage (although ROG doesn't have microSD),
Good Screens (although my G5 has 1440p..), Top notch Cameras..
I wouldn't do much gaming on either phone, but naturally, some gaming features are always welcome and they have benefits,
like the dual speakers, and the quad-dac setup in the ROG Phone,
I mainly want a fast feature packed phone, great for vacations and content consumption.
Now, the ROG isn't out yet, but what are your opinions looking at both devices, or owning a current xperia?
(or old xperia and old ROG?)
Things that confuse me include:
ROG Phone 5 has a 64MP Sony sensor, but in photo comparison it looks about the same as the 12MP on Xperia,
I know MP isn't everything, and Xperia does have it's own advanced camera apps, apart from the point and shoot basic app
ROG Phone 5 has a 'special' quad DAC, with advertised hardware, but the DAC in the Xperia in unknown as far as I know
ROG Phone 5 doesn't have a microSD slot, so I'd be stuck with the internal storage forever, this is potentially a slight issue
ROG Phone 5 doesn't pass durability tests of 'JerryRigEverything', it fails pretty easily on hand..
Repairability is also a factor for me.. (apart from Magisk and Xposed goodness, which are available for both devices..)
P.S the ROG Phone 5 would be available in stores on the 29 of march, 3 days from this post
P.S#2 Xperia 1 II is more expensive, but Also looks like a good choice
