from my experience with LG devices and updates, firt G5 will receive the 7.0 until ends of September/October and next V10 until ends of December or earlyer January! Dont bother too much, we will receive it anyway!
There is no root for Marshmellow so likely nougat will be more impenetrable. I'm sticking to Marshmellow and waiting for a root.
There is way, way too much crap-ware on verizon phones not to be rooted.

depends wich variant you have, in some variants the bootloader is unlockable and then have root like mine!
i am sure LG will make all variants unlockable-able bootloader so, you need to wait if you have a locked one!

Verizon (or any other cell company) has no vested interested in giving root access to it's customers. The phones are loaded with crap ware to data mine what you are doing. That is valuable data to Verizon and they are not about to lose that income stream if they can help it.
I've had previous Verizon phones with the same "locked down" problems. Even though the phone would play MP3, etc; that made it so you HAD to buy any music you wanted to play through their Verizon store. Outrageous when I have 250GB of music archive I want to choose from.
I held my nose and went back to Verizon because we are planning to move to a rural area and Verizon was the only company that had any coverage. Stuck again in locked down hell.
Someone PLEASE find a way to root these phones!

Root the V10 with bootloader locked and Android 6.0 Marshmallow is impossible...
The only method to root V10 with bootloader locked is on 5.1.1 Android Lollipop with some kind of dump, i know its possible because when i have my G Flex 2 i have bootloader locked and i root it in 5.1.1, but when update to 6.0 Marshmallow i cant root so, if you want root for now you need to be in 5.1.1.
We will get android 7 for sure but i also do not expect it before the end of the year. They will first focus on G5 which most probably will get it around september/october and after that will work on V10 and G4. Android 7 have some good new features like the multitasking and advanced doze mode but frankly my V10 is working perfectly even now with marshmallow so i am in no rush to get the update as soon as possible. Lets hope that we will get it as christmas present before end of the year.
Outside of vulkan I couldn't care less about nougat.
In fact I think it should be called 6.1 not 7.0, there is nothing interesting about it multiple windows? This has been around for awhile if the app supports it.. My note 3 had multi window support and so does the LG v10 it's pretty useless

It should also be noted that marshmallow doze features can be enhanced with 3rd party apps such as ForceDoze which can decrease the time it takes for doze to kick in when the screen is off.

LG Android Nougat Update
LG has earned pretty good reputation among devs for updating their flagships faster than anyone else to the latest Android version. Last update also, LG updated their flagship, LG G4 to Marshmallow soon after the update was released for the Nexus devices. We can expect that for the current flagship LG G5 and the previous flagship LG G4 with LG Android 7.0 Nougat Update.
Here is the list of all devices which will get LG Android Nougat Update :
LG G5
LG G4
LG V10
These are the devices which are confirmed to get the Nougat Update from LG, we don’t have any confirmation till now. We’ll be updating the post when it will be available.
Also, LG’s updates are generally lagged by the carriers in US, so the LG Android Nougat Update timeline may vary from different carriers like Verizon, Sprint, etc. And we can expect the updates to come to the devices listed above just after 2 months from release of Android Nougat.
Long story short, at least we're getting it. After rumors of the V20 coming out already many people believed LG would forego the update to pressure people into buying the V20. We know now, that's not the case.
I for one would really like the Nougat update. Split screen might have existed since a long time ago but official support from Google means wider adoption. Vulkan of course is another must have feature along with the improved Doze. I also love the interface seen on the V20 including the notification/quick toggle shade. The V20 also allows the second screen toggles to work whilst the main screen is on (sound, wifi, flash, camera etc.), something that the V10 does not allow. Hopefully this will be implemented as well along with other second screen improvements like allowing all notifications to go on the second screen.
The doze improvements can be brought to marshmallow via ForceDoze which can make doze kick in immediately when the screen is off.
Multi screen I have never found particularly useful for even big screen phones, there is simply not enough room to legitimately work with. Great for tablets nearly useless for phones.
Correct me of I am wrong but The hardware has to support vulkan in order to take advantage of it right? Pretty useless unless you've got a newer phone that can use it.
Nougat to me sounds more like a minor update (should be 6.1 not 7). It sounds like the most lackluster update to android yet.

LG G5 F700L Korean version has got Nougat 7.0. I am from India and I got this update via LG bridge software,
I do have LG V10 but still no luck with LG bridge. I manually downloaded MM kdz file from LG site and flashed.
It was quite unfortunate though, as back when Nougat was released last year, LG initially listed G4 and V10 to receive Nougat. I just hope with the re-affirmation by them that they will test the firmware well and not do a botched job of the Nougat build. Since it is highly unlikely we are getting the next O software by Google, let's hope we atleast get the latest Nougat 7.1/7.2.
question: I love and hate this phone...camera is great in steady shot, but when fast focus is needed it fails. When I take pics of kids, lots of pic. came out blurry, now, what do you think, can Nougat fix this or it's just slow hardware?

i think Nougat doesnt fix what you want, only thing Nougat will bring to us most likely is the new UI from G5/V20 or G6, some doze optimizations, multi-window will be more friendly and nothing more...
hope they can fix the Hi-Fi DAC to be used with the speaker and not only with the earphones, hope to less system storage ocupied by the system and more to the user, and really hope the GPS will be fixed too because my V10 fixing time of GPS is fast but, every 2/3 minuts lost signal and this is really what have dissapointing me in this device!
...and (i dont belive this will happen but) i hope they remove the sh1tty beauty mode for the front facing camera, this make the photos look ugly and have 0 quality!
Since this probably will be the last OS to our V10 i think users deserve unlockable bootloaders and then users can cook their own rom's and kernels (this is a dream for me since day 1 of have the phone in my hands, since july last year!).
Root LG V10 - TMobile
It's possible with Dirty-Cow root.

I'm due for a upgrade on my Verizon plan. I however need it to be rootable. I currently have a rooted LG G3 so that I can use the native tether app without having to pay for a tether add on to my data plan. I also use Titanium Backup to save apps & data.
It looks like it's between the S7, S6, or Note 5. I'd even consider the Moto Z, Priv, G5, V10, Pixel, or HTC 10 but those seem to have smaller communities and less of a chance of a good root.
I did some reading on here and it seems like the S7 is rootable but has some performance issues that need to be fixed after. The S6 also looked like it was rootable up until the latest marshmallow update. Didn't read much about the Note 5. I would prefer a device that works pretty much the same rooted as it did stock, just with root access. If I can avoid having to purchase a tethering app like FoxFi and can find a way to use the native wifi tethering app (regardless of my plan) like I can on my G3 that's a huge plus.
Any recommendations with my specific asks? Additional information around rooting the devices I mentioned? I didn't add to the "what phone should I buy" stickie because my asks are a little specific.
Thanks!

Hi everyone I've heard that the support from the company to it's devices is poor. So is it true ?
If you mean support as in new software updates, then yes. Moto has a history of not updating software for anything that is not their flagship after about a year or so. I've had the Moto G5 (orieo) and Moto E4 plus and both are not on Pie, and most likely never will be.
Note that I do have security patches though. The latest one I have for both was in February 2019.
Since bootloader is unlocked, at least the one I bought, not sure if all of them are...once we get TWRP we will be able to get custom roms rolling.
title says all
I join the question. Maybe somebody has an idea about creating custom roms. From the manufacturer's side, there is nothing to count on too much. They gave it a correction from January. About Android 10, nothing is known and it is not known if it spends on this model at all.

It's just a fact that some devices are well developed, others aren't.
That depends on the devices the developer own by themselves, that's why every Pixel or One Plus has a lot of development.
I was about to buy a G8+ (I own a Moto G 2014 and a Moto G5+ which are in active development until today) but I saw that nothing was happening here so as I got the chance I bought a Xiaomi mi 9T. It's cheaper than the Pixels and a lot of devs own it.
It's one thing to buy the device of your choice and another thing to have a lot of ROMs, kernels and tweaks to choose from.
You have to make your decision.

I have seen some AOSP been marked as tested on G8 Plus.. I tried to find out how to install a GSI, but no success yet.. As i understand, the G8 + should be Treble compatible. Have tried to install some AOSP images but it only goes into boot loop..
have you been successful in installing AOSP?
In regard to that matter I don't know if I should buy G8+ or G7+
I hope G8+ will get some good custom firmwares...
I might also consider the purchase of a Realme 5pro for the same price but I don't know how in compares in terms of sturdyness to the moto G.

Doesn't mi show ads on they UI at homescreen, and they also have some privacy issues right?

I never had any ads on my homescreen/UI and about ads in general: Even if you don't root your device to get rid of this stuff: It's easy to freeze/deactivate apps that have privacy issues or ads in them.
I used ADB to get rid of the Xiaomi browser (one of the most privacy problematic apps) and several other ones. I'm not rooted atm (will be in the future) but even without root privileges you can use DNS66, Adaway 5 beta or blokada and I see no ads at all.
I was aware of the problems a Xiaomi device could cause but it's more than easy to find ways to solve these problems and I'm happy with the decision to buy the 9T.
I will root it in June when miui 12 comes out and I think that will make things even easier.
Also there are custom ROMs or EU.builds etc.
That's all better than no development. I'm a big fan of the pure Motorola software but without any development the G8 is not the right thing for me.
I don't regret buying that Xiaomi device.
Hey guys, unfortunately it doesn't appear that the Stylo 5 threads are very active, but maybe we have some skilled devs here who may be able to lend a hand at some point. Right now it would appear that there is no hope for root on any Stylo 5, but I believe I may have an idea for someone more skilled than I am to work off of. If anyone follows the V50 threads, you know that root was achieved without a bootloader unlock initially. The G8 was cracked and from there it seemed LG Android 10 phones may have some hope after all. After some deep browsing through the system files that I was able to access without being given the strongarm from the "No root access" message, I noticed that strangely enough, many files are not specific to the Stylo 5 and don't even mention the models name, they are taken straight from the V50 filesystem. We know that LG likes to do this to cut costs anywhere possible, so I'm thinking this could be key in taking the first few real steps towards root.
The G7 was rooted using the V35 engineering bootloader, so this isn't a crazy , out of the question possibility. Take some time and check out as many files as you can get access too and report back. I truly believe that the Stylo 5 has huge potential if we could gain root access and fix LG's shortcomings with this build. The Stylo 5 maybe a budget phone with lower specs but I've used phones with 2 gigs of RAM and a 32-bit OS that have been twice as fast if not three times quicker than the stylo. I have an old Aristo 2 that runs circles around this guy.
