The last couple of months I've been having cell reception issues. The phone shows that there is a network, but the data doesn't work. I cannot send or receive texts. The only thing that fixes the issue is a restart or turning airplane mode on and off. This works maybe 60% of the time. I have the Snapdragon version (on ATT...I know that doesn't help....)
Has anyone else had issues with cell reception? If so any fixes or could my unit be going bad?
Also, this usually happens after entering low reception areas. It's like the phone "forgets" how to do data.
Hey there, I wanted to let you know that it's definitely not Hardware, but a software problem. I've had this for a long time, usually at work I have little to no signal and after a while of connecting and disconnecting from the operator network, when I get out of work, it does exactly the same, so I usually disable the sim and re-enable it. So far you're the first person other than myself that I've seen talking about it.

Sounds like an issue with data roaming - do you have it turned on under Settings-Connections-Mobile networks? My S22u SD (T-Mobile) transitions very well in low reception areas.

I did not have it on. I will turn it on and see if this solves the issue. Thanks!
I tried it and it didn't change one thing :/

I would recommend a reboot after changing the setting for data roaming just to ensure it is fully working.

Nope. Once I step outside I immediately get reception again.

It fixed the texting issue (I now get all texts in low signal locations), not the data issue. It shows bars, but I have to switch to airplane mode and back for it to get data.
Reception on my S21U and S22U have never been as great as other phones. Even the Free $0 TCL phone T-Mobile gives out will get signal in a fringe area while S22U no service.
I've noticed this too. My S20 did not have this issue.
This is what it looks like

Same here with a S908B.
Coming from a S21 Ultra, without mobile data problems, have it with the S22 and the same sim card.
It happens only when I move around as a pedestrian but I've never experienced it during car driving.
Locking mobile data to G3 never shows a problem (but I payed for G4+ and a functional device)
It happens at all places where my S21 and my spare OnePlus 7T was/is working flawlessy.
I have no idea how the repair shop could emulate the behavior and be convinced to replace the correct part

Woke up this morning, no service, keeps saying current network (T-Mobile) is unavailable, the only way it'll work is if I pull sim card out, power it down, reinsert it and start it back up, it'll work fine for about half an hour and drops network again.
I'm running latest mahdi ROM, nothing else modified.
Any help appreciated.
BTW sim card is relatively new( about 5 months old)
Try a different ROM and if it still does it RMA the device I was having problems with service to where when I was using data it would decide to switch to h/3g I'm on T-Mobile as well

Thanks for the suggestion, i don't think its the ROM, but to put my mind and ease and eliminate that possibility I'll flash another ROM tonight.
Btw how does the RMA work? I've never had to go through this before
Thanks
If you purchased it through T-Mobile just call T-Mobile and tell them you're having problems with it and just do troubleshooting stuff and if what they say doesent work unroot it and send it back and if you purchased it through google same exact thing
Although I bought it brand new, it wasn't from Google or T-Mobile itself. If I can't rectify this with software I'll have to contact lg and see what they say
No bueno, flashed other ROM and currently on stock ROM still having same problem, service drops off rendering phone useless. Emergency calls only is all i get.
Any advice?
Try going to the service menu which you can get into by dialing *#*#4636#*#* in dialer. Go into phone information and try changing this setting:

Since you're on t mobile I'd recommend trying anything but CDMA. WCDMA is fine though. Maybe one of the options will help solve your connectivity issues.
Personally I'm on WCDMA only when connected to WiFi. This gives me 3G. Otherwise I am on LTE only. GSM should give you 2g.

Have you tried different modem?
Figured it out, in short I got scammed. Called tmobile today, they blacklisted the phone for non payment, I guess the guy that sold it to me hadn't paid it off/paid. I guess lesson learned, call service provider and make sure device is paid off.
It still works with att. At this point I'll sell it as such and or for parts.
Thanks everyone
I am trying to figure out if WiFi calling is enabled or not on this phone. I cannot find it in the settings. I know for Sprint this is turned on, But I know on the S6 Edge this feature was hidden and could be used with a root.
When making a call connected to WiFi I have had a message that stated it was using standard cellular connection and rates would apply. But then when making another call I did not receive that message. In the call log next to one of my calls is a WiFi Logo. So I am trying to figure if its on.....and if not how can I get it?

Hi Notice the same on my Galaxy S7 edge from at&t.
Yesterday I made an international call and I notice that it was through WIFI but there's no wi-fi calling settings in this phone.
Does anybody knows if this feature still in beta or what does this icon means?

I've been seeing the wifi icon on my phone as well. Seems to be random, went back through my call logs and it happen once on the 13, 12th, 11th, then back on the 9th and 8th. I caught it because I have really bad signal at work but I connect to their wifi network, I received a call one day and noticed I was able to talk for more than a few seconds without it dropping the call. Also I do not or have ever used google voice
Has anyone noticed the GPS signal strength is rather poor compared to other phones.
I have my 6yr old HTC incredible and it can keep a lock better.
As a hobby, I like to record GPS tracks when on an airplane as I travel alot. That is a good test environment as the signal is typically poor. When I have both phones on side by side, I will see that the satellite signal levels are about the same from both eventhough the Z5 is capable of seeing more satellites. However, the HTC is capable of holding a lock for nearly the entire flight whereas the Z5 will often lose a lock randomly.
Sometimes, I will notice the Z5 not getting a GPS lock even in my car (although this is rare)
I asked Sony support about this. They claim GPS wont work in a plane eventhough I've recorded hundreds of tracks. Then they said they'd forward this concern to the engineers to perhaps get improved in a future firmware.

Haven't got any issues with GPS lock outdoor, but you might need be on the window side on your next flight to get a better reception. =)
The thing that i noticed mostly with Z5, is they have quite weak receiver antenna's wherein even cellular signal is very weak compared to 1 year old phone.

I always sit on the window side and it doesnt matter since I stated that I in comparison to another phone side by side by side, the Z5 is much worse. Unless you normally look at the signal levels you probably would notice just driving around outside.
Like you, I also noticed the cell antenna is worse too.
Made a quick research for the Z5 teardown, based on it only has a small antenna at the lower back of the unit.
Seems this might be the reason for very weak receptions we are experiencing with this unit.
Hope their engineers can make an improvement via software or radio drivers and release it sooner.

The small "L" looking bar on the center, together with the board is the GPS antenna (most likely)
I bought my S7 less than a week ago and I notice something odd happening with my mobile data connection.
When I'm using 3G (Mobilcom-debitel_Vodafone/Germany), my connection is consistently laggy. Every action that I require connection for takes a couple of seconds to be executed, if executed at all. For instance, click to download an image/audio/video/etc in whatsapp, it takes 5+ sec to start the download; open the browser, takes 5+ sec to load the page; open Deezer, takes 5+ sec to start loading the data... and so on. I notice this problem since the first time I used 3G on the phone. Everything is up-to-date and I installed the phone from scratch, app by app, no backup/transfer from other phone. On my previous S6 I didn't have this problem.
Some information that might be useful:
- I use 3G/2G (auto-connect), no LTE/3G/2G
- I'm usually with BT/Wifi/3G enabled at the same time, not necessarily connected to a device or network
- The data icon keeps the up arrow on, but the down arrow off until I actually receive data and the request is processed
- If I try to turn off the mobile data connection/put in airplane mode, it takes the same amount of time for the connection icon to disappear (5+ seconds)
Is it a known issue? Anyone with the same problem?

Just checking: you know that the phone is brand new, 2 days old, right? Just checking... Also, since the first time I went outside to use 3G I noticed the problem.
Did you have this Problem by using WiFi only?
2nd Option is run a Speedtest (Ookla) to Check the ping.

I did it already and there are no problems there, as you can see below. 3G speed on my plan is limited to 21mbps.

On a side note, I did a reset of the network settings and apparently it got better. I'm still testing it, can't say yet it's fixed, but I noted some improvement for sure.

As I posted, resetting network settings was apparently a solution, but this morning it was clear that something was still pretty odd.
I will consider starting from scratch. I'm so lazy, it takes a long while to config the whole phone again, but apparently it's worth a try.
So my 8T is converted to global, and I have the EU 11.0.6.9 update installed.
I'm not sure if its just the updates or just the phone in general but I noticed it struggles, or rather sucks in certain areas that do not have the greatest reception in comparison to iPhones. I was recently on a job, where just about everyone with an iphone was able to lock in with a decent signal, meanwhile my 8T couldn't even get a single bar. Same carriers too.(TMO)
Anyone else notice this?
I think it's just the phone. There's an area on the highway near my house that has a low signal (in between two cell towers) and the 8T will drop out with no signal, where every other phone will be able to maintain at least 1 bar.
Oddly enough I've been signal in places where I didn't get signal with my last phone? Same sim card, both phones were running Lineage.
Of course there are so many factors, it's going to be hard to get "real" results.

If you happen to have the R14 or newer SIM card and 5G turned on, your phone could be preferring upgraded Sprint band 41 over other frequency bands. I've found that in some areas this doesn't work so well because the band is really touchy without having overlapping coverage. For that reason I change my data setting to 4G/3G/GSM. I don't believe the iPhones have that band or access to that band yet. It depends on the iPhone I guess.
I have a Sprint purchased, on TMO sim card per their instructions after the merger. I'm seriously considering MSM back to the T-Mobile software. For the simple reason of what you just described. I was blazingly fast 5G before the conversion. Now I struggle with even connection on Wi-Fi calling or no connection for phone calls at all out of my house it's horrible.
And what the hell is the the H in my data on notification bar.

The room may have put an older baseband on the phone which can causes issues like this.
