I have tried many ROMs but i just can't seem to find one that suits my needs. The one I'm looking for is a ROM that has the most customizability, but when i google it, i can't find anything. The closest to the ROM I'm looking for was CrDroid, it had a lot of tweaks and features, but it wasn't passing safetynet, so i tried Corvus, it was great for customization, but it was really outdated. I have found resurrection remix, but it's on android 10, and that's a problem for me.
It'll be great if it would be on Android 12, however if there's only A11 then i can live with that. My main goal is to personalize my phone from every aspect of it.
(I'm on Redmi Note 9, but there's lots of unofficial ROMs that work)

I just sold my Shaomi Readmi Noat 10 two days ago for half the price I bought it for 10 months ago. I never used a sim card on it, It was just like brand new still within warranty. The reason I sold it off is because :
> Shaomi devices look too glossy & the components like speakers, display etc. don't last for more than 3-4 years with heavy usage. Just the other day a guy walked into the retailer outlet complaining that rain water had seeped into his Shaomi Readmi Noat 10 Pro camera module & it was out of warranty i think so the retailer says "If you're lucky we might find its parts coz its an old model". Thats how fast devices are getting obsoleted.
> The newer andoid 11 versions are being shipped with A/B partition devices with Super Partition & with system R/W disabled. You can't even find a System Partition or Cache Partition using Custom Recovery. Any Custom ROM gets flashed straight to B Partition that causes more problems while switching ROMS, you have to reflash the Stock ROM each time & it takes 17 minutes to reflash the demn stock rom every time!
Also TWRP backups don't restore.
> I purchased the Shamshung Galhaxy M21 2021 Edition (M215G) instead. It comes with Andoid 11 out-of-the -box with Virtual AB Partition & it has 6000 MaH battery (A.K.A. 2-day Battery). The Custom Recovery (SoulR344 TWRP) can mount System Partition, Cache Partition, flash GSI ROM images directly to System Partition etc. on it. I'm using the CAOS11 GSI along with MicroG and Data Calling works good. Theres no Gapps or OEM Apps on it just basic AOSP. Magisk 24.3 works fine on it with Zygisk and Ainur Narsil Sound module works good too. If you tinker with Phh Treble Settings you can tweak the OS Skin to your liking. If the Home Screen Status bar is too rounded or doesn't display things fully then Display Settings tweaks that perfectly. It feels just like using CrDroid or DotOS etc. GCam works well except portrait mode. Open Camera works really well and even allows the user to switch between ultra-wide mode etc. and presumeably Camera2API works. It comes with FOSS Browser too. I played Modern Air Combat Team Match for 3 hours at 60 FPS and the battery drain was about 8-9% somewhere around that, there is a heating issue with higher FPS but when I used 30 FPS the heating was just mild and the graphics change was not noticeable.

True, whatever floats the boat is fine for me, but I didnt find much difference between CAOS11/CAOS12 GSI and any ROM for that matter, even banking apps are working with microG, just saying. I use Resurrection Remix 10 on my Galaxy J7 Prime, I use CrDroid on another phone..I find all these ROMs and GSIs the same under their skin - lineage. :-/
What works with CAOS11 GSI so far:
1> MicroG
2> GCam (without Portrait mode), Open Camera works even better in daylight with Camera2API, ANX Camera flashable zip works.
3> Banking apps
4> 4G Data Calling (normal calls work haven't checked Volte), no call drops.
5> Under 1GB games work fine (no heating issue at 30 FPS)
6> TWRP Backups restore well if you don't try to restore Super Partition
7> NetGuard VPN works
8> Magisk 24.3 works, all modules flash well.
9> Battery backup might not be as good as Stock OS but 8-9% battery drain in 3 hrsof gaming at 30 FPS. Its 2 days since I charged the battery 92% and still 35% juice remaining.

Hello,
first, I have to admit, I have not much idea of custom roma and kernels.
I bought a new oneplus 6 a6003 8GB 128GB and Im thinking of installing a CustomROM, but Im not quite sure that its the right thing to do to match my user expectations. Ive read on reddit that many people are happy with the OEM Oxygen and that the dont see no need to install a CustomROM. Or does it makes sense to only change the kernel?
What I want to achieve by installing a CustomROM:
- stabme and reliable operation
- no pre-installed Bloatware
- no pre-installed indespensable google-apps and services
- nor other pre-installed undeletable Apps/Services
- eventually longer battery running time, but not if it would damage the battery over time and shorten its lifespan
- possibility to adjust fine settings like change the vibrationpattern for incoming calls/sms/notifications individually
- smooth parallel running of multiple apps
- automatic OTA updates
What I do NOT want to achieve by installing a CustomROM:
- putting my device at the risk of a write-off (or is ir always given when flashing other OS)?
- deterioration of stock performanceralating to the battery life time/ life span, reaction rate etc
- missing support of some (banking?) apps, cause they dont classify the new os as trustworthy
Thank you very much for your help
PS: While searching the web I found a lot threads on diferent forums where people compare they smartphones to the Google Pixel 3 (as the better device?) and install the google pixel 3 OS on their smartphones. whats so special about this phone/OS?
In my opinion all the custom ROM's have just as good battery life or slightly better then the stock Oxygen OS. Good thing about OnePlus phones is if you "brick" the device you can easily restore it with the MSM Download tool, so no need to worry about writing it off. If you want to remove all bloatware and control what google apps are installed maybe you would like OmniRom with a custom kernel (I feel like most of the kernels on here are all great, can't go wrong with any of the popular ones). If you want your phone to feel like the Pixel 3 (comes with a lot of google apps but using the OS feels pretty nice) I'd recommend the OmniTreskmod ROM.
If all you want to do is remove the bloatware xXxNoLimits ROM might be a good option. If you edit the script there are plenty of debloat options.
Hard to go wrong with this phone, it's pretty amazing. Good luck!
I recommend you:
treskmod
or stock + magisk + custom kernel
Do open beta 12 with smurfkernel
Settings for if you prefer battery life or performance.
I got an antutu score of 309,000 with smurfutil_flex

If you want an incredibly customizable experience, you have to try havoc os. It doesn't come with gapps preinstalled and is compatible with microg and battery life is pretty good too. This rom is very stable as well and it is more customizable than any other oneplus 6 custom rom.
Liquid Remix seems to be more stable (than HavocOS) for me.
It has a great Battery life (without any GApps installed) and about the same amount of features as Havoc does.
GApps always impact the battery life quite negative, but I don't know how much the difference exactly is in comparison, because I never installed any GApps package
Anyway, I can recommend that you look inro this thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-6/how-to/custom-rom-t3867290/
(The mentioned bugs for Liquid Remix are fixed in the recent releases)
For a clean, fast, reliable and polished ROM, you could try Pixel Experience. I've been using it on 3 phones, it's really amazing.
Or wait for Paranoid Android to get a bit more advanced. It's le Rolls Royce of Android ROMS.
About kernels, Smurf is my favourite. Awesome performance, AND awesome battery life. The phone last two days with a single charge and around 5h of screen-on time.
If you flash a custom ROM, wiping your phone data is mandatory though.
Edit : I'm a bit off topic, as you asked for something without preinstalled Google Apps and lots of customization, which is the opposite of Pixel Experience. I'm personally waiting for Paranoid Android, loved it since Nexus 4. This guys created head-up notifications, Oreo-style recents and floating window multitasking on Jelly Bean, for f*** sake, they are unbelievable.
Mi A2 Lite ANDROID 10 UPDATE REVIEW BY ALESSIO1989 :
1. SD crap performance still not fixed (and it's not related to the SD itself, only on this phone)
2. BT is still laggy, no additional codecs working, SBC only with 500ms lags (sometimes even more)
3. Poor 4G signal - 4G+ not working (at least in Europe), while the SoC is perfectly capable to do intra brand carrier aggregation.
4. Performance degradation after a couple of days, needs restarts
4. Customize your pixel is still appearing
5. Cannot hide suggestions in settings
6. Direct share is still broken
7. Xiaomi never cared to enable Camera2Api (a workadound is possible thought)
8. Xiaomi never cared about AR Core.
9. 2/3 of these issues come since Day one from Android 9.
Completely Written by ALESSIO1989.
JUST CORRECTED SOME MISTAKES & GAVE SPACES BTW LINES.
conclusion, stay on stock oreo, or flash custom rom.
Can confirm 3, 4, 4 and 6, on June update. The others haven't noticed/tested.
tried various custom roms but all with bugs.
In my opinion the best I have tried for battery life and speed is the bliss vanilla 12.8 even if it had
camera and gps problems ... What do you recommend? ?Do you think there is a custom rom without defects??

Is there a way to back to the first Android version on Mi A2 Lite? It was the only version that works fine.
After the first update a lots of problems comes. The first one: Call Recorders stop work!
I'm with the last Android 10 update, and my cell phone is a tash now. I cant use it. Lot of bugs!
I need to change the android Version, install a MIUI stock, or buy a new phone(I cant do it now!!). I think this is my first and my last Xiaomi Phone.
lets keep all the reviews / complaints of this rom in one location so everyone can enjoy the conversation.

I would like to know which is the best custom Rom to install it and that I can use the tablet 100%.
What do you recommend?
Preferably android marshmallow or higher
Which custom rom did you install?
Hi
At the moment i testing out following Roms:
Stock 5.4 (debloated by myself)
This is the latest Rom from Nvidia which has all of the oem apps and features this Tablet offers. But on the downside it has slowdowns and freezes. In my case i debloated the Rom by myself where i deleted apps and the systemapps like twitch, squid, fallout and ota or feedback for example. With this the device is barely useable with some slowdowns and freezes but way better than before.
LineageOS 14.1 by Saint2k
This is a stable, fast and secure Rom. Secure because it get almost every month a security update like on a new device and is the perfect Rom if you use it as a normal Tablet and play Games from the Playstore. On the downside Nvidia Games doesnt work and the Old Controller is just useable with the USB Cable + OTG Adapter. Also the Console Mode is buggy and some say it has a bad Batterydrain at idle what i cant comfirm yet.
AOSPExtended 5.8
This Rom is based on Android 8.1 with working Hardware Acceleration. But it has the same issues with Nvidia Games and the Controller and Consolemode. This is the more stable Version of the AOSPExtended Roms.
AOSPExtended 6.7
This Rom is based on Android 9 and the Nvidia Games App works but only when the App Signature is deaktivated with LuckyPatcher. For the GAPPS you also should use the OpenGapps Nano Pack instead of the older MindtheGapp. This is the less stable Version i also had 1-2 Restarts and 3DMarks had some Graphicissues. But apart from this it is a interesting ROM where i hope the Developer still is working on
One thing to the DRM Issues:
Every Rom also the Stock One is affected from this. Its because our Devices has Disconnected from the Widevine Service run by Google without a warning or a reason.
That means no Copyright Protected Medias like from Netflix are able to use atm.
I hope this was helpful for you and dont hesitate to ask if you have more questions.
i am also curious about this! looking for the best ROM for my k1

If you flash Magisks it has a few different modules that fix DRM so Netflix and other streaming apps work correctly. I just learned about them the other day when I was checking out some options in Magisks Manager.
As far as the best custom ROM goes I am going to have to go with ASOP 6.8. The reason being is it is the only ROM that will let my PS4 controller connect wirelessly. Also, it is the only ROM that screen casting is working for me on. However, it does not work when I use cast by swiping down on the screen and selecting it. I have to download a 3rd party app to get it to work. I found one the other day that worked perfect for allowing me to watch Cinema apk movies on my TV. I ended up factory resetting my tablet though and now I cannot remember what app it was.

Cool that means you be able to watch Netflix, Amazon, ... In Full HD ?
Because i also tried out the liboemcrypto disabler on my rootet oem tablet and i was able to start at least the netflix app but it wasn't going above 540p i would say because the Widevine CDM Securitylevel is now L3 before it was L1 with only Current HDCP Level stated as "Disconnected"
But i try out the second modul with DRM in name when the Tablet is done with charging

I tried the 5.8 aex 5.8 and it worked very well, until playing a google play game I realized that the tablet was locked and I closed the apps. Apart from that the screen mirroring does not work, it freezes the image.
Now I have installed the 14.1 , it works very well, the same game freezes, but it takes a lot longer. And this standby spends little battery, but on consumes that gives taste. And with this screen mirroring does not work with a smart tv, like stock.

What I'm looking for in a rom for my tablet is: to be able to play google play games, something demanding (like when I buy it), also be able to use screen mirroring to watch videos and movies on smart tv. And if it's possible for the battery to last.

Hi
In your case i would give the Unofficial LineageOS4.1 from Saint2k a try. Its fast, reliable, and secure because of the almost monthly security updates. Also Games from the PlayStore shouldn't be a problem. I also have a mirroring option which gave me no issues so far.

Ok i tried the screen mirroring again and you are right it also crashes for me when i start it direct with the button from the dropdown menu. When i use it to cast the youtube app it works fine for me and thats the only thing i use it for atm so thats the reason i didnt notice it.
About the demanding Games i play occasionaly COD Mobile with the Tablet. Its really slow at starting because most of the time the game does updates and loads a lot of annoying ads
It just needs a bit of patience but when you actually in the match itself it runs just fine and it doesnt crash a lot for me.

I recently upgraded from a 2 year old 14.1, to the latest. I found on the androidfilehost for the-saint2k sometimes had the latest on the right side, under recent files. I checked now and its updated to the latest
https://androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=297059
I found the kernel from BitObession
https://forum.xda-developers.com/sh.../tweaked-kernel-nvidia-shield-tablet-t3069776
K12-002 works fine and fixed my battery drain during sleep
https://androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=282989
I dont use screen mirroring, but i do use HDMI out for use at school and that works fine. Nvidia console is still included in this builds, and I'm glad its standard.
Now I've noticed Kernel Aduitor is no longer available in the appstore, and is over 2 years old. Is there a better kernel auditor app for changing the governors? My tablet is a e-book reader currently, I could happily downclock it to get more out of the battery.
I hope you find your solution. I wouldnt expect too much more development for this (in before lineageos16.0 becomes the bees knees for this device).

Ok sounds for me the Games running out of memory and the ROM cant handle it. You could try to change the Low Memory Killer Settings. For this you need Root Access and with the Kernel Manager App from the PlayStore you can easily change those Settings it even have some Presets as shown on the Screenshots.
It also have Settings like KMS which reduce the Memory Usage too and you can set the Read Ahead Buffer Size.
I think it may need some tinkering with those settings to find the perfect ones.

I agree with Scavenger87, I've also tested Saint2k 14.1 & 15.1, AEX 5.8 & 6.7. By far the most usable is Saint2k 14.1 the second time I've loaded it up (so far).
AEX 5.8 has outstanding deep sleep battery life but the random reboots to the OS or TWRP in the middle of doing something eventually had me loading up Saint2k 14.1, which was stable but ate battery at idle despite running the BitOb K12-002 kernel.
So I tried Saint2k 15.1 but had a lot of problems launching apps and also RR, then wiped & flashed AEX 6.7 which seemed to have even more problems with app launching. Both were quite laggy compared to LOS14.1 and AEX5.8 when the apps finally started to run.
Today I reflashed Saint2k 14.1 with BitOb K12-002 kernel and so far the device feels like is should - clean and snappy. It just finished being fully charged so I'll get an idea of sleep battery consumption over the next few days.

The App should be also what you looking for
EDIT: For some reason i cant upload the Screenshots i try it later again.

I would like to make an installation as clean as possible of 14.1.
What do I have to clean when I reinstall the rom from twrp?
And if I have to do a separate installation to make it work better, when should I do it? Thank you
For a complete wipe down you should go to TWRP -> WIPE -> Advanced Wipe and Wipe Everything apart of the Micro SD card for obvious reasons
Then install the newest build of the 14.1 by The-Saint2k which you can found here : https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=8889791610682953905
The Filename says its from the 6 October 2020 which wasnt revealed by The-Saint2k in the Forum and i wasnt able to test it out myself but i never had any new Problems with his ROMs.
I dont get the second question what do you mean with seperate installation ?

Some zip file that improves performance, or the operation of the tablet or rom.
Ok i don't have any expirience with such improvement files but i guess as early as possible maybe like the gapps direct after the rom.
Which files are you mean ? And did you try to test the Games without those packs ?
I mean because you facing instability issues..

My installation was only of the rom and gapps.
But there are times that they recommend you install some more package from twrp to improve the functioning of the tablet. As for example the one from aex 5.8 there is one to use fast loading (or so I understood).
Hi everyone,
I've been away from the ROM scene for a few years and was pleasantly surprised to find out that even a MediaTek phone these days can be flashed with a ROM different from its original. With a lot of bumps and information from this thread and others, I was able to test the Lineage, Havoc, and Treble ROMs, flashing through adb commands on fastbootd on unsigned xiaomi drivers. The one with the best compatibility so far is an older ROM, the Treble 10 GSI bundled with go gapps. Treble 11, the latest, doesn't have a working "recent apps" button (multitasker/app switcher). I'm not using this phone as a camera phone, but I did install an older Gcam (Gcam 2.3, I think) by googling the phone's mediatek processor, Helio G25.
On stock android, I do feel like the phone is much improved from the MIUI OS's bloat. I feel that Xiaomi as of late is putting too much adware, a far cry from when I bought my first phone from them (A Redmi 1S).
I would like to thank everyone here for the recovery files, twrp, etc.
I'd love to know how you accomplished this, as an otherwise decent phone is, I feel, crippled by MIUI's ridiculous bloat.

Hi @Bludwurst ... I'll see if I can write something semi-coherent about it. Please give me a few days. But the general method was pretty similar to flashing other treble-based ROMs, the important thing is that the phone boots into FASTBOOTD ("elevated" fastboot) and the rom you're flashing is the correct architecture with some Google Go apps (if you want it to be easier to set up). They update every few weeks, so depending on the progress, it may even be feasible to try out the other more popular ROMs. Lineage was 2nd best in my experience, and Android 11 to boot with its own recovery, but it doesn't come bundled with Google Go apps, you'll have to flash the Google apps yourself.
Major caveat about the treble GSI i'm using though -- the Gcam with HDR on has a chance of shutting down (exiting). It's less of an issue when the setting is off. I do have a separate primary camera phone so that wasn't an issue to me.
I've had the phone for about 3 weeks now. I think the biggest difference between this ROM and the MIUI OS is that the MIUI OS is very aggressive about killing my VPN (Ad blocker) and other background apps. With this Treble GSI (Android 10, not 11), I won't claim that my mediatek phone suddenly became a snapdragon, but there's no unexpected app-killing, which is very important for Blokada to stay alive.
**Has any other app crapped out (crashed/exited) since I changed ROMs?**
I don't run games on this phone, so I can't say if there's a difference between MIUI and Treble, but most of the productivity stuff is running okay (time tracker, markdown editor, pdf viewer, etc.) there IS some slowdown when running mobile youtube on my browser (yes, i don't run the youtube app... there may be an improvement if you're using a dedicated app.
I bought this phone as my work tracker phone. Before, with the MIUI stuff, it would stutter after a few apps were loaded. This is improved, but under heavy loads (10+ tabs, video playing), the phone is likely to complain.
**How's the battery life**
I bought this phone for the battery life, so I'd say I'm pretty satisfied on that front. The difference between the MIUI and the Treble GSI.... there's some small improvement with the Treble GSI. But it is (after a few weeks of use) not as much of a "battery boost" as I initially thought. Maybe this is because MIUI keeps killing background apps that now stay on? Can't tell.
**Any other issues**
I had to fix brightness and I think the headphone bug. I still have the commands somewhere, I'll dig it up.
Next, I am not sure if this phone will get security issues moving forward, or if i'll have to keep reflashing to a later GSI. I haven't checked if there's a way to sideload kernel security patches.
**Worth it to switch?**
Yeah, absolutely. Not having to reload apps is a huge deal, and not losing working data while typing helps. Tradeoff is camera hdr and security.
This all sounds very interesting.
I've admittedly not kept up with the Android scene (to call it something), so I'm a bit lost regarding Treble ROMs and such; I'll try to catch up a bit.
Take your time, I can wait.
(It goes without saying that, should I not like the results, I can always bail and reinstall an official Xiaomi ROM for this device, no?)
Yes, MIUI is extremely aggressive killing apps, and getting it to stop is rather confusing (it's not enough to turn off battery optimizations... You need to dig into Settings).
I managed to stop it from killing Netguard, at least...
I also don't play games or otherwise make extremely heavy use of the phone; I also don't care much for camera apps, so such disadvantages aren't dealbreakers for me.
Thank you for your reply

You should use arm32_binder64-ab variants for this device, and you should flash an image that is THE SAME ANDROID VERSION you currently have or 1 version above. Example if you have Android 11, Flash Android 11R version, if you have Android 10 only flash ANDROID 10Q versions, etc.
To find out what GSI image should you use, this app makes it easier, it recommends you which one to download. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=tk.hack5.treblecheck&hl=&gl=US --

2 Years later, i made a guide on how to flash it , maybe it can be useful to you.

by the way can you share the links you used to download those roms? I wanna try em out too
Hi guys,
after almost 2 years with MIUI, Android 10 and Android 11 with MIUI 12.5, I would like to try a custom Android 12 rom before selling the device after the summer and buy something new.
As usual, there's a lot of custom roms. Even with A12. Onestly I would prefer to focus on a specific rom avoiding to try all the possibilities, this phone is my daily driver at the moment.
So I can see CrDroid, Evolution, Aosp, Voltage, Arrow... etc etc. Maybe seems a newbie question but which could be not a best rom but the first one to be tried ? Mainly I'm using the X3 to make call ( of course ), surf the web ( of course ), take photos to my children ( so the quality is very important for me ) and use it for GPS ( Mapy CZ and Here Maps ). With an eye on the battery duration...
Which A12 rom could be a good initial attempt ? Not so hard to be installed, I don't want to spend hours in bootloops or issues eheheh.

If you want something stable with good long-time support, there's only Lineage, ArrowOS and maybe AospExtended
If you take lot of photos, ArrowOS offers you unlimited storage in Google Photos. In Lineage you can add that feature using a Magisk module.
I went with ArrowOS for the unlimited photo storage and a few pixel features.
I have found a phone app that automatically records all calls and a Gcam that makes great photos.
Everything is better than MIUI really
On other phones, I was happy using AOSP Ext and CrDroid. What about this last one? I can start trying Arrow maybe...

CrDroid should be good as well.
The developer made a break of 2 - 3 because he gave the phone to his wife but now it continues to receive regular updates.

Could you provide the name of that phone app that records calls and gcam which makes great photos?
I am looking for exactly the same thing as the op. Right now on stock but it is so sloow

Mod Edit: Link Removed
AOSP dialer has to be installed in Magisk.
GPay SQLiteFix is a fix to make Google pay work, has to be flashed in Magisk as well.
After installing Aspen (GCam mod) create a folder called ConfigsSettings8 on your phone's storage and paste the aspen2.xml there.
Start Aspen, double click on the black area of the screen and select aspen2.xml
@Noter2017: I'm curious here about your setup, so a few questions?
Is Bluetooth working alright with external audio devices?
Does GPS work reliably?
Is general wireless connectivity stable?
Can advanced reboot be enabled easily?
Is button navigation possible and can buttons be reversed?
I see you have Magisk, so no questions about rooting...

1) Bluetooth works fine for me. I use it with my Mi Band and a portable speaker. Personally I never had problems with Bluetooth, no matter which ROM I used.
2) I use GPS on a daily basis and it also works.
3) Works. With a speedtest get 400 Mbps on my 5 GHz WiFi at home (1 Gbps cable).
4) Can be enabled in Settings - Gestures
5) I use button navigation and didn't face any problems. You can revert the layout in Settings - Gestures - System navigation
Only problem I face after moving to ArrowOS 12.1 was that some backups made with Migrate didn't work. A few apps would crash immediately (Tailscale, for example) after starting (had to clear storage), my taxi app asked to verify my credit card again which didn't work. Had to remove and add the same card again.
Also customization is pretty much absent which might be a problem for some people.
I had a long free weekend, so I decided to spend a few hours upgrading. If the ArrowOS wouldn't have worked reliably, I would have changed ROMs to something else. ArrowOS 12 is EOL and I will stick with ArrowOS 12.1 till the end of the year. Really getting too old to do clean flashes all the time
I think CrDroid 12 (8.4) is superior. I use it with ANXcamera and Magisk
