How to authorize adb in stock recovery? - OnePlus 8T Questions & Answers

Hello. Sorry if this is answered somewhere else and I can't find it, but is there a way to authorize ADB (have root access) in the stock OnePlus 8T recovery? I have it with TWRP running OOS 11, but am about to upgrade. I'm doing an ADBSync SDCard backup (@osm0sis tool) and wanting root to zip up a folder with long-filename files. I can do this in TWRP only. If I upgrade to OOS 12, I'm worried I won't be able to restore that backup. Note that this tool works fine with the phone booted, but here again, I don't have root access over ADB even though the phone is shown as authorized.
Thanks

You can use this guide to modify the stock recovery to activate insecure adb it works for all versions of stock recovery.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...n-os-stock-recovery-with-adb-enabled.4084487/
Be aware though that oneplus removed the ability to decrypt data in stock recovery on OOS 12 and there is currently no working TWRP for android 12 for Oneplus 8T, even though it is being worked on by the developers.
So currently there is no way to decrypt and access the data partition from recovery if you have OOS 12 installed.

KB2005 C20 ( latest ) stock Recovery with ADB enabled ( and few minor changes :D )
I found out that since not yet having any custom recovery for OOS 12 so the stock Recovery with abilities of using ADB may very useful in many cases.

Question TWRP for Oneplus 9?

Today I tried to install twrp from this link
Install TWRP Recovery on OnePlus 9/9 Pro [Android 13]
In this comprehensive tutorial, we will show you the steps to install the TWRP Recovery on OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro devices.
www.droidwin.com
I have the CN version (LE2110 ) with Oxygen 11.2.9.9.LE25AA. I was able to make it unlocked but on the step where I am in the temporary TWRP I can't now browser to any files I copied before. I have no access to the SDCARD, to flash TWRP permanent.
Is there another workaround to get TWRP running on the OP9 and root it after?
thanks
Andy
Great the twrp from op9 pro works perfecet. magisk and root as well. thanks very much for the great work.
Is there a way to disable the unlocked message which appears on the boot?
what happen if I lock it again? does TWRP and root work then?. Bit scary to try as yesterday I was hanging in a boot loop with trying twrp...)
thanks
I unlocked the bootloader with adb fastboot flashing unlock.
what do you mean by MSM?
right now I am on stock rom with all updates, TWRP with Magisk and root.
should I look the bootloader with ad fastboot flashing lock ? Do I still have TWRP and Magisk with root running after I lock the bootloader again?
thanks
Do not ever lock your bootloader with TWRP installed or root! It can and very likely will brick your device! You can only get rid of that message by going back to stock without root and without TWRP and then relock. You have been warned, do not even think about it
Hi,
ok thanks for the information, then I better leave this message,
thanks
Hi,
ok I will leave the message then.
thanks to all for quick support
It is/was "possible" to remove, but the difficulty and risk are not worth it.

I just did this today. I was coming from Pixel Experience. It's super simple. You will lose all your data.
Download the FULL OTA to your computer: (This is a link to global version)
REMOVE any security settings you have -- pin, etc. (not sure if this is necessary, but i did it anyways)
Reboot to TWRP / Recovery
Wipe system / data
Reboot recovery again (don't worry if you cannot access the internal storage from your computer, that will get fixed after flashing)
Plugin phone to computer
Enable sideloading
Install the OTA zip by sideloading with ADB
Bash:
adb sideload OTAFilename.zip
Reboot after flash and wait several minutes
Done.

I am trying now since 5 over 5 hours to get stock OS for my 7T (hotdogb) with LOS 20 back to stock OS cause of safety net not working as well as some other stuff which i want to reset… But i am unable to install neither TWRP nor default stock OS. I am stuck with LOS recovery and cant install stock OS cause LOS is newer, and it would be a downgrade, letting it fail the upgrade via ADB. I tried with payload dumper and there the partitions are locked even tho oem is unlocked. I ran out of ideas, anything I can try?
Regarding TWRP: i tried both stock and other rom version, it did not work.

Is it possible to pre-root a TWRP image prior to flashing it?

Hello. I'm trying to flash a TWRP custom recovery on a SM-A305G (Galaxy A30). While reading the official A30's post on the TWRP website, in order to properly flash the custom recovery, they recommend me to first root my device with Magisk (which I understand how to) but THEN flashing a pre-rooted TWRP image for my device. How could this be done?
Related link: https://twrp.me/samsung/samsunggalaxya30.html
Thanks in advance to who could answer this question. Internet hero.
Rooting Android OS is adding an user with elevated rights ( comparable to adminstrator in Windows OS ) to it, nothing else.
TWRP recovery does not require a phone's Android is rooted.

That just isn't how it is done, we don't root TWRP, we root the phone's OS. There isn't anything to "root" in or about TWRP because TWRP has the power to modify a device without needing root.
It isn't required, but, it is possible to root a device and then use an app such as Rashr, Flashify or TWRP Manager along with root permissions to flash a TWRP img or even use a Terminal Emulator app with root permissions to install TWRP via dd commands. It doesn't "have" to be done this way, it's just an alternative way to achieve root and flash TWRP on devices that are capable of doing it this way, in this order, not all devices can do it this way.
I want to have Magisk AND TWRP.
I rooted the phone with Magisk and had Magisk running.
Then installed TWRP app and flashed TWRP with root permission.
Now TWRP is installed but Magisk is gone again.
How can I have BOTH?

Flash the Magisk.zip via TWRP just to be sure binaries are installed, then wipe cache and dalvik cache in TWRP then boot into system and install the Magisk Manager app(if it dosen't get installed when you flash the Magisk.zip).
Unfortunately not working.
I installed Magisk via Odin wirh a Magisk-patched stock rom ( Galaxy A10). WORKED
Then installed TWRP via Odin and got TWRP and Magisk working by immediately booting into recovery after flashing.
But then I installed the CrDroid custom rom via TWRP and now Magisk is gone.

Question Downgrade LE2115 from 12 to 11 - confused.

Hello all,
My phone came with ColorOS OOS 12 and I hate it. As soon as I rooted it it started crashing daily, I even reflashed a fresh oos12 image using the local update tool and only granted superuser to one app (solid explorer so I could access user files) and it still crashes. Not to mention all the apps i want to use don't work on android 12 (call recorder, busy box) and no custom recovery.
I've been reading through the forum and I found a downgrade package that looks like its hosted by oneplus: https://oxygenos.oneplus.net/OnePlu...all_2107082125_downgrade_059624cc7298428b.zip
I just wanted to make sure I am doing this correctly...
Do I use the OP Local Update app to flash?
Will I be able to flash TWRP for android 11 afterwards?
Will i need to relock the bootloader?
Should i re-root using the magisk slot b method or wait until its flashed and use TWRP?
Will it try to OTA back to android 12? If so, what's the best method to get on the latest version of android 11?
Thanks for the help.
I am running COS C.62 on my OP9 with root and having no issues. Did you make sure to do all the things in this guide?
Root OnePlus ColorOS 12 OxygenOS Android 12 via Magisk
In this tutorial, we will show you detailed steps to root your OnePlus device running ColorOS 12 Android 12 via Magisk Patched Boot.img file.
www.droidwin.com
Anyway, yes, use the local upgrade APK, put the downgrade file in the root of storage, run it. Reboot. Factory reset and wipe data to clear out any leftover crap (don't restore a backup - if you want to use Clone Phone you can do that but only restore app APKs and messages). When it reboots it should offer the latest OOS11 OTA first. If not, just download it and place it in the root and use the local upgrade function in the settings menu of the OOS11 system updater.
There is no need re-lock the bootloader and if you do, you risk a brick that has to be recovered with MSM Tool.
Root by following the guide I linked. I just went through this yesterday after flashing COS broke mobile data. I have Magisk 24.3 working with denylist, Widevine L1, and SafetyNet passes so I have Google Pay.

Thank you, ill give it a try.
First i used the payload.bin method and it was crashing, then i reflashed the latest OTA using the local update tool and used the magisk slot b method. still crashing.
It might have less to do with the root and more with me using root to disable certain apps (youtube, chrome, OP community, google news/podcast/tv) i dont want them on my phone but they might be too tightly integrated. If its still crashing on android 11 ill re-enable them and see if that helps.

Okay you're on OOS, not COS. COS doesn't have Google apps by default (but has plenty more bloatware, I just don't use it).
It's certainly possible that disabling Google apps is your problem. If you don't want Google apps, you're better off with a custom ROM that doesn't have them. CalyxOS has a beta for OnePlus 9 and it's totally de-Googled. There's also Lineage.

ahhhh. i didnt realize there was a difference. I thought OP was just calling their android 12 build ColorOS.
Either way, for custom roms i would have to go back to 11 to flash TWRP right? or can you flash custom roms using fastboot?

You would need to back to 11 because OnePlus hasn't released working sources for 12. Just use the downgrade package, factory reset, then upgrade to 11.2.10.10 and you'll be good to go for custom ROMs. TWRP isn't used for flashing them, they all generally post their own recovery. StagOS was the best one I used (plus the dev is really responsive when there are issues) and people seem to really be enjoying Nameless but that came out after I went back to stock so I haven't tried it yet.
Before you mess with custom ROMs, make sure that you download the global MSM Tool and make sure you can connect it. Honestly since you have to go back anyway, might as well download and use the MSM Tool to get the device back to 11 anyway.
GLOBAL OnePlus 9 MSM TOOL UPDATED
Frist off Im not responsible for anything that happens to your phone!!! VERY SIMPLE IF YOU ARE BICKED,BOOTLOOPED OR JUST WANT TO GO BACK TO 100% STOCK THIS WILL WIPE ALL DATA!!! AN RELOCK BOOTLOADER OOS 11.2.4.4.LE25AA MUST HAVE QAULCOMM...
forum.xda-developers.com
Easiest way to get it into EDL is adb reboot edl but if you want to practice the key combination in case you can't get into the OS, I found if you open the MSM, check use lite firehose, and click Start before you connect the phone, it has less connection errors because it's waiting for the phone so as soon as you connect the cable, it pops up.

Yeah TWRP has issues. I soft bricked last time I tried to do anything with it and had to use MSM Tool to get back to working order.

Question Root Oneplus 9 with android 12 already installed

Can i unlock the bootloader and then boot to twrp recovery (from pc) to install magisk.zip or does this not work for android 12 ?
TWRP not compatible with android 12, yet.
i presume you know that when you unlock the bootloader, your device will be reset to factory?
Yes I know that unlocking the bootloader will factory reset the device. Is there some recovery I can use with Android 12 ?
I can't find a guide on how to root from scratch android 12.

https://www.droidwin.com/root-oneplus-9-pro-9r-magisk-without-twrp/ Just sharing what I've learned. Have to patch boot.img and vendor boot.img and flash out of folder in sdk on desktop. Then use vb_meta.img to disable verity flash. Guide above...

Didn't look very hard. I made this thread months ago. It's here in op9 section how to guide.
