Possible to force 4k streaming on Android? - General Questions and Answers

I know Android is likely limited to 1080p by widevine L1, but is there any way to force / trick Disney+, Netflix, Hulu, HBOMax and other streaming services currently serving low quality 1080p streams to Android phone / tablet users to serve proper 4k?
I get that most Android devices are FHD+ but they would still benefit hugely from 4k steams that are much higher bitrate, have much wider gamut color (bt.709 vs bt.2020) and more coherent HDR mapping.
I have an S22+ and a Tab S8 Ultra on 1gbps fiber. Watching 4k YouTube is awesome, but recent content like Obi-Wan on Disney+ or Love, Death & Robots on Netflix are an unbearably grainy low bitrate mess - an experience that's remarkably poor for a premium device. Worse than even 1080p streamed via edge/safari or a pc/mac desktop Disney+ app.
Is there any way to make the (non YouTube) streaming experience on Android less terrible?

I really wish there was a solution to this It's 2023 and it is shocking that YouTube is still the only app that can do this

Hello my friends. Havent we had any solution so far ? I have a google TV stick and I would like to force 4K or 2K instead of 1080p.

Any In Depth guides on how to use VR with the XZ Premium for 4K Content?

With a 4K display, I wonder why there are only 2 threads asking about VR, (one opened by me) and why there are no guides at all? I mean there are lot of people who would like to buy for VR but don't wanna risk it because there are no proper information.
All i could gather is:
- you have first to change the native resolution of your android to 4K, for APPS.
- MXplayer shows 4K content. (I guess). and so does youtube. But still no one definitely answer is you can watch 4k 3D 360 videos with this device.
- Most apps dont support 4K so forget games in 4K. But no one says if the phone at least support 2k VR.
- Also no much information on which Headset is best compatible with this device.
- It is said everywhere that the LCD Screen response time is not fast enough for VR. Is this the same for videos, or is it just for games? Or is it even as big of a deal as they make it sound?
Aren't there any VR enthusiast who also has purchased a 4K display phone who could maybe clear some questions?
tnx
I can confirm that YouTube, MX Player, VLC and VRTV Player display 4K properly. For more information see my post in another thread.
And I was able to watch this YouTube video in 360° 3D mode with 2160s60 quality without any issue.

This is a big factor that's got me interested in the XZP. Give Car's VR player a try. It seems to play videos for me that other VR video apps won't but I'm still on my Le Pro 3 so I can't test 4k myself. It's my go to headset video watching app (I like watching shows and movies this way). If it supports 4k, that'd be amazing!

My Youtube no longer have the 4k Option after Oreo update. is this normal ?

Hi.
so after the update, I no longer have the 4k viewing option. only full HD. is this normal ?
How do I get it back ?
Thanks
4k is still there. It is removed, however, for 4k HDR content due to an issue with the app.
For normal non HDR videos 4K is still there. But videos with HDR is now limited to 1080p due to performance issues with pretty much every device: http://www.androidpolice.com/2017/11/04/hdr-youtube-app-now-maxes-1080p/
Shame they don't offer an option to just watch the non-HDR version instead.

Android TV support for Ultra Wide Displays like WQHD 3440x1440

What is Android TV support for "irregular" display resolutions?
I cannot find the answer anywhere online so I turn to the experts. I found conflicting answers, most to the negative, but no definitive explanation.
The story:
I recently bought an ultra wide monitor (Samsung S34J550 with 21:9, 3440x1440 WQHD resolution) to work from home that I occasionally would like to use as a smart TV in the living room, without hooking a PC and HDMI cable to it. Currently I can see some Netflix movie in full screen when played from my PC via HDMI to the Samsung monitor. For convenience, I'm looking for a PC-less solution where I would remotely control the device. I'm ready to buy an Amazon Fire Stick 4K or any other Android TV device, or a ChromeCast as long as I can leverage the full ultra width for 21:9 movie playback.
Would any Android stick adapt to a WQHD resolution? Or only 4K sticks? Amazon Fire 4K? Google ChromeCast? None of the above? And if not, what are my options?
Alternatively, a lower 21:9 resolution would still fine with me for movie watching. Like 1/4 of full resolution: 1720x720.
TIA
Same
I have exactly the same situation, 3440x1440 display, and it is annoying to be forced to use a laptop for proper 21:9 watching experience.
Support for wide formats is needed for Android TV.
I am using Xiaomi's Xi Box S as it claimed to have support up to 4K resolutions. Unfortunately only regular 16:9 modes seem to be supported so have to use it at 1080p only.

Can i Watch 4k YouTube video on poco 3x?

good evening,
i wanted to kindly ask you if, with this device, i could see videos in 4k, for example on youtube (i read that on xiaomi mi 10 lite you see videos in 4k, but i am afraid of having ghost touching problem with that model ). as for LIVE VIEW inside GOOGLE MAPS, how does it behave? go jerky?
I await you and thank you very much, it is important
Hi. The 4k option doesn't show up for me. Not that it matters though. 6.6" display at 1080p resolution wouldn't make a difference anyways (except for huge increase in data usage). As for Google Maps live view it seems to be working just fine though to be honest I find it being a useless gimmick. Some old Nokia phones had a similar feature and it was just as useless back then as it is now.
FYI I use Vanced not thr stock YT app so it might be different there.
You can try to to look for Vanced Youtube
Like I said I use Vanced and even if you set 2160p as your preferred resolution there's no visual difference only in the amount of data pulled to play the video. On like a PC monitor or TV you might notice less compression so it might make sense to use a higher resolution than your display can support but on a tiny smartphone screen? Unless you absolutely have a need to burn through your data without any profit I'd say stay away from 4k.
Trying to watch a 4k or even a 2K video on a 1080p screen ? What's the point ?
You can't display more than effective screen pixels...

Netflix on the 14 pro max?

Hi does anyone else feel the streaming quality on Netflix is poor on the 14 pro max?
I have an ultra HD plan and I’ve made sure the playback quality is set to high but it’s just a little pixelated and overall pretty poor.
Watching videos on moviejoy it’s clear to see that the picture quality is better
you got any background apps open or any resource intensive apps in the background? that might slow down video encoding or it could be your internet
