Did magnetic cables ever damage your phone ? - General Questions and Answers

I wanted to buy a magnetic cable for my phone but a lot of people especially on reddit say that it can cause damage to your device.
So I researched a little bit and I can't find any threads about any damage on the internet so I wanted to ask if it is true or just misinformation from reddit ?

What is humidity level in your area? If it is very moist atmosphere then unplug adapter from usb port so that moisture doesnt remain in the gaps of the charging port. A moisture corroded port happens if we leave any usb device connected all the time to any metallic port in an environment with lot of moisture.

From central europe so it is a little bit humid sometimes but I don't think that it is that humid to corrode the metal.

Is it safe to charge after dip phone in water?

I know that our Xperia Z5 has waterproof without flap to cover charger port, but after dip in water, water falls into charger port and I worry about leaking out of electric when plug in charger. So is it safe or danger?
This is the funniest thing I've read. Leaking electric? There is loads of posts about waterproof Sony say no but I've put mine in loads of times.
The phone needs to be completely dry before plugging into a charger
Sorry for my bad English so I can't describe clearly. I mean may the electric damage phone when plug charger in after dim phone in water?
Sony say make sure all ports are dry before using them
Ok my apologies, well that's up to you Sony are backtracking but I've personally never had any issues.
I would make sure port is dry before applying electricity

waterproofness in rain whilst plugged in

hi folks,
i would like to use the s7 mounted on my motorbike handlebars for satnav. been doing this with my s4 for years with great success. i have an ultimateaddons waterpoof case for it when it rains.
i'm sure the s7 would be fine in the rain on the bike without a case, but what about with the charging cable plugged in? i'm not talking about plugging the charging cable into an already wet phone (ie pushing moisture into the socket), the phone would already be plugged in and charging by the time any rain hits it. also, the phone is largely protected by the bike's screen so it wouldn't be subject to a constant deluge.
opinions?
with the s4 setup when its in its waterproof case, i have a mini extension coming out of the case (so as not to have to open the case in the rain), which i attach and reattach to the charging cable all the time in the wet with no problems, so connecting a usb cable doesn't seem to cause a shorting problem per se in the connector itself.

Slight wiggle with cable and charger port ?

Hey guys. I've searched but couldn't find a solution.
I've got a very slight wiggle between my cable and charger socket on my honor 8.
Now I don't know of this is normal or not ? I can very slightly wiggle the cable from right to left, and up to down.
Is this normal ? Do other people get this as well ? When I say wiggle I mean literally a mil or two up and down, left and right.
Edit. Literally just tried wiggling the power connector inside the phone with a pair of tweezers. And it literally doesn't move. So I'm thinking it's the cable that is giving the couple of mil wiggle room??
Cheers !
Why are you even fidgeting with your device like that? Is it charging when plugged in? You're going to cause more damage.

Eh?? All I did was plug my cable in to my phone and it felt a little loose/wiggly. So I'm just asking a legit question ?? I'm not going out my way to cause damage.
I've jumped from an iPhone 7 to android. (which to be honest is a good thing right ?) I'm just asking is all?!
And yes it is charging. But when you plug a cable in like that, is it supposed to wiggle as much as it does ?
There is room for movement left to right this is normal. What is not normal is placing foreign objects inside of one's connect and trying to pull it.. Like the other member said if it's working as it should charging sync etc leave it well alone..

Okay. Thank you. As I said. I'm used to an iPhone 7. Where the charger cable fits like a glove.
If this is normal to have a bit of wiggle room then I'm okay with that.
There shouldn't be allot of movement when you have your device plugged into the charger. If you can get allot of movement when wiggling the cable then I suggest you send it back to Honor for inspection. As the USB port maybe loosely connected.
it shouldnt wiggle, get it fixed on the warranty
It isn't normal, when I charge my phone, the cable is fixed like a rock
Ok. Thank you for the swift replies guys.

Take it to a repair center ASAP
I have a bit of wiggle too. The port is solid and does not move, so it must be between the port and cable connector. I would not worry about it. There is a lot of different connection types that has a bit of wiggle sometimes. You will notice if it becomes a problem.
Type C Port Wiggle
I just bought a new factory sealed Galaxy Tab S3 from B&H Photo and the charging plug when plugged into the tablet does have about a millimeter of wiggle room in all directions, left, right, up, and down. The charge never drops. The slightest touch doesn't cause the plug to wiggle, I'm talking about actually using a little bit of force, not much...just a little.
My other devices use micro B and the charging ports in those devices fit tight so I had the same concern too but it turns out that the Type C charging port is designed with that slight wiggle room for some reason.
Just wanted to add my 2 cents to this concern on hopes that this information serves useful to someone.

How to clean dirty USB cable Connectors

Hello this is my first time posting , i have an LG G6 and i got a USB cable type C , the problem is that i spilled Pepsi on it ! due to that happening now my phone won't charge using the cable .
The phone gives me a notification saying "charging Blocked"
I dried the cable but it still says the same , i think that the problem is that the connectors have Pepsi residue on them and they are sticky so the phone keeps thinking there is a liquid inside them!
The problem is that i would've bought a new cable but the cable is really good and has the Fast Charging ability and type C cables are really expensive in my country!.
How can i safely clean them ? can i clean them with water and then make sure they are dry before using ?
Cheers.

Try using denatured alcohol or rubbing alcohol that's above 90% ratio. Use a clean toothbrush or something similar to clean the area of corrosion. If that doesn't work it may be best to just purchase another cable. also, try using electronics duster (canned air) and clear out the charge port on the phone, you can use alcohol to clean that area as well. Hope this helps.
Isopropyl alcohol (aka: Rubbing alcohol). You may be able to buy some at a local pharmacy/chemist, but I usually have to get mine online. It's great for cleaning off cooked-on thermal paste - it shouldn't have an issue with some sticky finger stuff.

Black screen after battery replacement

Anyone have any ideas as to what could have caused the blackscreen?
I replaced the battery, reconnected everything and never got a screen again. Cant se any obvious damage to the screen or any connectors.
when pressing the power button for longer i will get a quick screenflash but no visible picture. its also very brief (under a second)
any ideas would help me getting this solved.... i am assuming i did something wrong, i just have no clues as to where
Does it charge?
Allow to charge for 2 hours if you haven't already.
Does it work with the charger connected?
Could it be a defective battery?
Review your work. Is everything exactly reassembled the way it was including different screw lengths?
Are the ground pathways preserved?
Inspect all connector pins carefully for damage.
Did you damage a ribbon cable going to the display?
Try disconnecting, then reconnecting the battery.
ESD damage is always a possibility especially when handling components out of circuit. The mobo and display have little input protection on some of their i/o's.
At least bring room humidity to >50% before working on sensitive assemblies!
Wear all cotton clothes... no wool sweaters
A ESD mat and wrist strap is better. Earth ground the mat. Understand ESD and the mitigation protocols.
