If I buy a brand new S22 Ultra (12/256, Snapdragon) and install Nova Launcher as my default launcher, then go to phone settings and change navigation to gesture navigation, will it work decently or will the phone not work with gestures and force me to use the nav bar?
It works fine for me

I have the same phone and gestures work great and have on many other phones. All the standard Android gestures work plus Nova allows many more gestures and taps that are completely customizable.

I'm using S21 Ultra with Nova 7.0.57. While the gestures work it is definitely laggy when it returns to home screen. There is a slight delay when you return to home screen from an app before you can launch another app or go to a different home page. Is there a fix for it?

I see 3 animation settings in Developer Options in phone settings - Window animation scale, Transition animation scale and Animator Duration scale. I tried changing all three to 0.5x and I still see the lag. After I swipe up to get to home and immediately touch another app icon nothing happens. There is clearly a delay before I can do anything. Am I missing anything?

No you're not missing anything that I know of. Are you using the free version or prime version? I have the prime version.
Also, keep in mind, I have the S22 Ultra, so my results will be different because of a newer device with a newer faster processer.
Nova Launcher 8 is in beta, maybe you can snag that and see if that helps any.

This isn't a bug. Google changed the way Android handles gestures and the recents screen in Android 10 I believe. 3rd party launchers will have this delay on home and recents swipe. Neither the app developer, nor Samsung can do anything about it until Google decides to change it
Zero lag for me....been using it forever now on all my devices. Nova pime.
Your browser is not able to display this video.
I would not say a lag but there's a delay if you use gestures with 3rd party launchers when swipe and hold for recents. It happens in my S22.

I wouldn't call it lag either, but gestures definitely work differently with 3rd party launchers now. This is a well known change that Google made.

Yes. I've read this multiple times before. But many users like @ZayaanAhyaan report that they have zero delay. I'm wondering if it is a limitation with Android how it is working fine for some users?

It's technically not quite as fast as stock. My guess is that they don't notice it because they have been using it for so long. It's definitely real, you can Google the documentation on it. I deal with it on custom rims all the time

Are you sure you're on Nova prime? My Nova doesn't give me the option of having the stock single navigation bar . Also, the animation of swiping to go home and it goes to the app is not available on Prime.

I prefer to use Nova launcher however there is one big problem that I am experiencing while using it on my Samsung Galaxy S3 Verizon version. The dock divider disappears at random. It happens far too frequently to just ignore. It happens on the play store version and on the beta as well. I would like to buy Prime, however will not do so until this is fixed. It will only return after I enter and exit certain apps or if I restart Nova Launcher. I have switched to Apex until someone can find an answer to this.
Stupid question, but did you accidentally uncheck the option to show it?
Look in dock settings. There is an option for it to be off, in addition to an option to have it fade.

I do not have it set to off. It comes and goes without changing any settings. For example, I go into the play store to update an app and when I back out to get back to the home screen the divider disappears. it does not happen all of the time which makes it harder to pin point where the bug is coming from. If I enter messenger and back out of messenger then the divider comes back. What does the fade option do? I thought it might be the beta version, however it happens on the official version as well.
It just fades away after a few seconds. Uncheck that and test.

That was not checked. I do not see anyone else reporting this issue and I have done a good amount of searching. I am starting to wonder if it is a setting or app in my individual phone that is causing the bug. It is too bad because i believe Nova to be a smoother experience than Apex.

I switched from Apex which I have used for a long time on previous devices to Nova in my G3 (I have the paid version of both apps) & I tried everything I could think of & could not duplicate your problem.
I prefer the dock divider to be hidden, but when I set it to show it works perfectly for me.

Try going into facebook and looking at someone's photo that they had posted and then back out of facebook. That produces the bug for me.
I believe I found out what my issue was. I realized that this only occurred on one of my homescreens. This particular homescreen had many app shortcuts on it as it had two folders with 6 apps each on it along with the other apps taking up the rest of the space on the homscreen. I reduced the amount of items on the homescreen and upon the launcher reproducing the screen after entering an app, the divider no longer disappeared. I believe that there was just too much going on with this particular screen.
That's cool that you figured it out, I agree 100% that Nova is better than Apex for this phone.
I thought I had it, but it has returned. I know what the issue is as I can recreate it every time. I do not know of a fix yet. If infinite scroll is off and you scroll to the homescreen on the far left or right you get a blue animation basically telling you that you can scroll no more. I personally like this animation. If I do that, and then click on my messaging app in my dock and then exit the app, the divider disappears on my galaxy s3. It does not happen every time, but I would say that it happens more often than not. If you change the dock height to large, it does not happen. It only happens when the dock height is on it's default which is medium. Once again, this is using nova launcher prime and it occurs on the official and on the beta.

I swipe up from the bottom right to show recent apps, and I use One Hand Operation+ to swipe left from the far right to go back.

Me neither, waiting for the right ROM to flash because I'm really used to full screen features but that prevents me from using Niagara... Also never really liked MIUI at all.
But maybe that's also related with the battery drain. Maybe something happens under the hood when you're using third party launchers that makes the CPU to be constantly working... I wouldn't be surprised.
Maybe try switching to POCO Launcher for a couple days to see if you notice a difference.

The only issue I have is the navigation bar becomes enabled on each reboot. You need to enter settings->additional->gestures to re-enable full screen gestures and no issues until next reboot.

In order to hide navigation bar on MIUI 12.x (Android 11) you need to enable full screen gestures on MIUI settings.
Full screen gestures aren't working with thrid party launchers, but navigation bar becomes hidden and gestures are working perfect on FNG, even if discontinued (like I've explained some posts ago).

Hi Jotasejota,
I had similar drain issues that were resolved by playing with location permissions (via Privacy protection), I set it so no app has permanent access and selected just few apps I need to use location only when an app is in use. For gestures I can't help as I don't use Miui launcher.
I'm rooted and have mods installed, so they could be part of the problem too.
Anyone else seeing this? Every once in awhile, I'll press the "home" button on the navbar.
And instead of showing me my home screen with icons & such, it only shows my background.
I have to press the home button a second time before my icons and folders show up.

Plenty of people have this issue, some launchers don't work properly, I'm getting others issues as well like folders showing up in recents.
There's no real fix at the moment, you either change launcher or keep the issues.
Darn. Okay, thanks for letting me know that it's not just me.
I haven't had any issues with Nova Launcher. I'm using the Prime version. Perhaps that makes a difference?
Have you changed the settings within the config utility?
Yep, I've had Prime Nova for many years.
I change a TON of settings in the Nova settings.
It doesn't happen often enough to make troubleshooting easy.
I guess I could try resetting it back to factory defaults for a week or so.

You mention that you're rooted and have mods installed...I would definitely look there first. I say this because I use Nova Prime on my 7 Pro and have zero issues. In fact I have been using Nova Prime on all my phones for years without any problems. YMMV
Every single third party launcher and device has this issue (and more) ever since Android 10 came out and tied Recents and Launchers together, it's worse with gesutres but can happen with navbar too.
Those who claim to not have it either ignore it, don't use their device fast or don't mind lag
Lawnchair alpha 4, no issues
Not rooted, qp beta, nova prime, no issues like that on mine.
..certainly no one can have accessibility function for gestures in nova launcher, this is due to google - android 13 security,
double tap would be a bless, so i don't understand why google is providing double tap on the back of the phone, but only strange single tap (lock screen) on the front of the device.. ?
I ran into a similar issue with Android 12 & 13 - it's a little tricky to get the gestures for Nova to work on the lock screen and provided a couple of screen shots to make things easier for you.

I only have that occasional issue if I have a **** ton of memory hungry apps running. And I think it started with the January update
Using total launcher and something similar happens to me. When I use gestures to pull up recent apps, I'll just see my homescreen instead of the apps themselves. Very weird but the behavior still works in that I can press the screen and it goes to the last app, which is what I want majority of the time.
Nova gestures work for me via Accessibility - but only for a few hours. Then, I can't see a note in Accessibility menu for Nova non-malfunctioning. Turning the Allow toggle off and on resolves the problem, temporarily.
I'm using this nova launcher, and whenever I attempt to use split screen I receive the error "pixel launcher has crashed." Nova is set as my default launcher though. I'm on a p7p latest update.

Works fine as we speak
I really loved split screen when we had the three button navigation. You could double tap the recents button and then split your screen immediately. I wish Google would make it easier than it currently is. I really wish if you went into recents by swiping up to your right from the bottom and it was an option below like screenshot. This is one of the things that drives me nuts with Google and there horrible human factors
Here's the log.

I agree. I've wondered for a long time how Split Screen went from being so easy to no longer anything I think about anymore
I just went back to the pixel launcher to see if it would do split screen. It does. Whenever I go back to nova it crashes and split screen doesn't work. What are the motions/ gestures to get it to work on a13 on a p7p? I've read on some older threads where people had the same issue that they had to find a way to make it work with seemingly "secret" gestures.
You have to swipe from the bottom up to the right to access your recent apps. Press the app icon you are currently using in recents. A selection menu will pull down and you select split screen. The current app will move to the top of the screen and allow you to select another app to split screen with.
With split screen in the past, you would have a three-button navigation at the bottom. The button on the right was recents. If you double pressed the reasons button, the app you are currently on would go to the top of the screen and allow you to select another app to split screen. It was easy and one of the best functions of Android. When they move to gestures, they took the function away and now it takes three more touches to get to split screen.
At the same time, Android has not worked on this function and over time it has become bug laden mess. I find it crashes often.
Have you tried nova launcher 8 beta? Split screen works fine with that build. Also the prime if you have paid from it works too.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I updated to 8.0.3 last night and I still have the same issue. I think aosp mods through lsposed is causing me trouble. I'm asking for help in that tread. Others have similar setups to mine, so idk what's going on. Anyone here in a13 with nova launcher on a p70 and have split screen working?
I use nova on a13 but I'm fully stock and there is no issues. So it might be the some mod. Typically if searching for the culprit of a bug you would first disable all the mods and go from there testing one mod at a time. It's very hard to find a solution when you have a modded environment. Basically since on stock android with no mods it's not having issues most likely it's one of the mods you are using that is perhaps causing the issue.

Wow. You got it. This was it. I DESPISE animations though. They make the phone feel slow like an iphone. Disabling animations is always the very first thing I do with a new phone. So is this a nova launcher problem? If I go back to the pixel launcher with animations totally disabled there is no issue.
I typically use split screen at least once a week, and sometimes it's more or less. I've been using nova for almost a month it seems. Maybe I really hadn't tried split screen prior to making this post, but that seems odd. What I'm getting at here is that it seems even nova had to have functioning split screen while animations were totally disabled. I have all animations disabled except for the "animator scale." Now I have animations when swiping back from apps to go home. Popping a new app open still doesn't have an animation.
The lowest animation scale I have is . 5x. On past phones and older android versions I think there were even smaller options. Anyone know of a root or Xposed module to give me more options? If I can cut this down to .1x or even . 25x I will deal with it.
At . 5x animations and only using split screen 1x/week or I might just deal with not having split screen. I despise animations.
Edit: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/animations-set-scale-set-to-25.4365695/
Will those adb commands through my on-device terminal work? Can I use other scales like . 1 instead of just . 25x? Will this add animations for everything? Currently I only set the animator duration scale to . 5x. All the other animation options are still toggled off.
I also found a scaleR magisk module, but the last activity in the thread was in 2020, and I don't wanna message round with bootloops, wiping, and restoring my phone this weekend.
EDIT 2: I issued the command "settings put global animator_duration_scale 0.01" in terminal (had to use SU /root command) and the command itself works, but anything below the menu options of . 5x makes the nova launcher behave as if you have animations off, ie split screen doesn't work.
I also turn animations off first thing. I'll rather pass on the dual screen feature than turn animations on.

So the limitation is on the nova side? The feature still works on the pixel launcher with animations off. Any suggestions on overcoming this? So I just need to email the nova team or report it as a bug? I would consider it a a bug- flip a switch (animations) that has nothing to do with the functionality and that functionality then works? That's a bug. I wonder if a magisk module could do this or if through tasker the animations could be toggled on only when the split screen option was selected. Whenever split screen was exited another shell command ran through tasker would turn animations back off.
Guess a bug report is always good. For Tasker I think autoinput can do this

Collect a bug report through android system?
I have autoinput, but have never used it a single time. I was understanding that it actually had to do its tasks in the foreground. If I use it to toggle the animation scale does that mean I'm going gto see the settings app flash to the foreground, an automated button click on the animation scale toggle, and then have things revert back to where I was in trying to split screen something?
I don't know how Nova launcher devs can receive bug reports. They probably have some support link somewhere.
My idea was sending the command via Tasker as soon as you open the recents view which can be recognized with autoinput. And then you can come up with an idea for an exit task condition. Just play around with it.
