This morning I found my Uni hung up (like so often since the last week) and after a reboot, I got an empty Today screen and the Start menu only contains "Today" and "coldinit". Inserting my SDcard doesn't do anything. I think this is the right time to play with a new ROM. But I'd like to know how it is possible that the ROM destroys itself into this state?? Anyone else experienced such a thing?
Cheers,

My phone worked perfectly for a few days with ADP1.5H r3 on it, but now it refuses to boot, it seems to be looping forever. The blue android logo comes up, but the "shining" animation stops moving after usually 1-2 seconds, then the screen flashes back and the same thing repeats over and over again. I have already tried a wipe earlier, but now I'm having the same problem again. Any clues on what causes this or (better) how to fix this?

Are you doing Apps to SD? It could be your card.
Did you move any caches?
Do you have any nandroid backups? (just fastboot flash if so)
Did you recently try to update to anything and fail?
Try to use the update.zip again. If that doesn't work then start over from scrap.

Wipe worked for me. It was sticking on the Android flash screen, but worked after the wipe.
Yeah, a wipe fixes it. Later today I stumbled upon a thread which suggested the problem is the "Contact Owner" app that doesn't play nice. Can anyone confirm that?
In answer to binary: yeah I do apps on SD but I've been doing that since ADP1.1, so I doubt the card is the problem. Didn't move any caches. Yeah I have a nandroid backup, and all the updates I did went smoothly. I had the whole system working for about 2 days until this happened (probably, because this was the first time I rebooted since installing Contact Owner, though I can't really remember that 100%)

Contact Owner caused my phone to go into a reboot loop, but that was on the 5.02H build. I haven't had the guts to try it on JF1.5 or 1.5Hr3. If you look through the market comments for Contact Owner you'll see quite a few complaints of the same issue.
Hi there,
And sorry for reviving this old thread. I am the developer of Contact Owner an I kinda need your help in debugging this issue. I got a small number of messages from users of custom builds a while ago (about a month or two) but thought it was an issue with those builds.
Now it came back to bite me in the ass, as it seems the HTC builds in various countries (Canada, Sweden, South Africa) have the same issue: the phone goes into a reboot loop. I've tried (and failed) to install a custom build on my dev phone (almost bricked it) so I'm going to ask nicely if someone is willing to debug the issue for me. Please, please, please!
All that's needed is to install and run Contact Owner and if the device goes into a reboot loop, simply attach it to USB, run 'adb logcat' and then post the output. To recover from the reboot loop, simply start in 'safe mode' (hold Menu down while booting) and then uninstall Contact Owner.
I suspect the problem lies in SQLite, because I've seen similar complaints from Klaxon users and that app also sets the alarm message (which then ends up in a SQLite db, I guess). The Alarm Clock app that comes with Android also does that but I imagine it's because the message set by Alarm Clock is always short and has no newlines. I also don't think the issue is in Dalvik code, because the device should not crash if managed code causes an error.
TIA,
Paranoid Android.
hi guys, well i just woke up not to long ago hearing my TP restarts by its self, when it did, the task bars were like grey instead of the EnergyROM theme, my Lumos icon looked bizerk and the screen was at full brightness, the connection wizard was launched for some odd reason, scrolled to my Pictures tab and i found like 4 pictures that looked blank O_O, i decided to shut off my phone and guess what? it wouldnt by pass the boot screen, i had to hard reset it manually....what could cause this problem? did anyone else had this problem?
yea, i got the same problem earlier, but only the restart part. everything else is fine.
I have been having this strange problem with Pyro-Ice & undeadk9's liquid ICS v1 where whenever i reboot the phone it would go into a reboot loop of two or three reboots then when it stopped it would have reverted to original wallpaper that the flashed rom came with from the wp-clock live wallpaper im using.
I noticed this when i would reboot into recorvery to mount SDcard it would get into a reboot loop. When the loop stops and i put back the wallpaper everything would work fine till i reboot again.
Up until yesterday, the reboot loops were three at most. When i rebooted from recorvery it went into a reboot loop that wouldnt.end, i actually had to go back to recorvery where i cleared all caches then it rebooted once more before it stopped.
The reboot usually occurs when it prompts me for the pin, which i dont get past the second digit when i get the reboot.
The wallpaper tells me SSID of wlan network im connected to, time, date, cellular network its currently registered to and battery level at a glance. Thats why i use it.
Anyone else experienced anything like this?

Oh that's a super easy fix...DONT USE THE APP. There problem solved. Just kidding. I believe that app is not ICS compatible. Contact the app developer.
The wallpaper changes when the reboot loop ends, its never caused the phone to reboot. the phone Works okay till I reboot. I will remove it for a while and see if the problem goes away.

havent you tried some wifi tethering? built in in android? that would cause bootloops as you describe it.

Nope, I actually tried using it without the live wallpaper the problem went away. But after putting it back, a reboot would result sometimes into a reboot loop. Strangest thing is that I don't get any problem if the phone stays on. In fact if I revert to a static wallpaper just when I reboot I won't get a reboot loop.
Those are my findings

The wallpaper is wp-clock as indicated in my first post. Gives me the time, ssid of wlan if connected to any, battery level and cellular network the phone is connected to.

Not just a couple of reflashes, but also undeadk9's liquid ics rom which is also based on pyroice.

Will give this a try again with the new Pyro-ICS 1.1.0 and see if it behaves the same.

Problem with the live wallpaper is still there. If it wasn't compatible, would it work well with ICS then only cause reboot loops when I restart the phone?
So far I could say things have gotten worse. Because any small change I make on the phone(like installing an app, changing wallpaper, swapping sims etc etc) initiates a 2-3 loop reboot loop if I restarts the phone. When the loop ends it reverts to the first wallpaper I changed too(maybe not the original because it was abit garbed)

Trust me...ITS AN APP COMPATIBILTY ISSUE RELATED TO ICS.

I thought all the ICS ROMs had a live wallpaper issue.
Hi,
I am in Belgium, my phone is unbranded, I bought it in around may, and everything was working fine.
I do have 1.29 that I upgraded OTA, the problem is the device loves to restart itself.
I thought it might be just the sim card not sitting well, i take it out, out of the blue, not very often, will restart itself.
sometimes, it even gives a message, something like, if you don't do anything the device will restart itself in 5 seconds or something like, or sometimes, just restarts.
the most annoying problem is , when I turn on the camera app, in 5 seconds, even if you don't move the camera will initiate a freeze and restart.
if you re quick enough to go to gallery, for some reason, and when u get back to camera, it is fine, until you decide to restart the phone.
One reason I bought this phone is its camera, right, and when you need it, it is not there.
To make sure, I went ahead and did a factory reset, guess what, nothing has changed.
I turned of geolocation, gps etc, nothing is helping.wifi is off.
i turned on airplane mode, it doesn't help.
I never rooted it or anything.
It seems to happen more frequently if the battery is around orange level.
I sent error report like 50 times to htc, perhaps, i thought it might take their attention.
Can you guys suggest something about it???

Perhaps, you guys want to keep this, because, I have this problem solved with todays OTA update to 4.0.4 by htc.
