Question Help S22 Ultra bought on BestBuy - no 5G on Chile - Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra

Hello, this is my first post, i bought on launch week a s22 ultra on bestbuy (US model), SM-S908U1, and i can't connect to any 5G network, i have 1 simcard and 1 esim no neither of em connect to 5G, only LTE+
doing some research i found Chile use the n78 band, and seems this version of the phone doesn't support this band.
So there is my question, if i change the CSC or the whole firmware to Other like one of the Providers from here ( ENTEL or WOM , etc) this will add the support for the n78 band, or it's hardware related and there is nothing that can be done?
Thanks you very much in advance
ck.

It is hardware

your specific model does not support that 5G band on your country so no choice. check bands first before buying

You need 908-E (Taiwan) model to use n78
PS: why do you need more than 120-160 mbps on LTE+ networks?

Are you sure? If he needs n78, it is very well supported on the U1

Uh, it sure does. Did you either select SIM2 or check on a network that doesn't need n77/78? Your screenshot says no n77 so you'd better explain to the people on c band that they shouldn't be on it.

The network I am currently on requires N78 thus I cant connect to 5G where I currently am. and the u1 only has 1 physical sim and I dont use eSim. The three telcos here in The Philippines only support N78. My s21u which is G998B has N78 and can connect easily on any network here on 5G. Can't comment on band C as I am not back in the US till Dec. Correct me me If I am wrong but afaik the u/u1 does not support n78 unless it is locked via CSC. I am on XAA, XAA, XAA csc

Pretty sure all U/W models, including U1 supports n77/n78. The cacombos site does hw dump on radio support. If I check 2263 menu on my SIM2 (ESIM) / tmo, I see what you see, but on sim1 it shows what I posted.
Service provider software version
SAOMC_SM-S908U1_OYM_TMB_12_0021
TMB/VZW,TMB/XAA
And yes, I'm on cband on vzw n77, which shouldn't be possible if your data was correct.

gsmarena shows for the U/U1 model (and probably the W model) the following for 5G:
1, 3, 5, 7, 8, 20, 28, 38, 41, 66, 71, 260, 261 SA/NSA/Sub6/mmWave - USA
I wonder if the hardware is there and it just disabled by the U/U1 software (but without bootloader unlock, I do not think you can flash the E software on it; this would only enable n77/n78 if the hardware was there but just disabled by software).
The B series is missing n2 and n71 (though in Canada, Telus uses n66).
Not sure how reliable the gsmarena is but this is what they say.

GSM arena is almost never accurate. It is also not disabled by the software, since obviously people on vzw and att in the USA can use c band on the U/U1

Already linked above, cacombos.com, as they only use data retrieved from the phones themselves from crowdsourcing, so the data is sparse but all popular devices should be there. Check under "Select Country / Provider", if "hardware" is available, then that is the most accurate data you'll have. If only a provider name is available, then you'll only see support for that provider.
All the other sites just gets the info from manufacturer websites or have useless tech journalists run some commands they don't even understand. See the FAQ on how the data is collected and how you can contribute.
Still, CSC can modify band selection, so it's possible (for example, the TMB csc) will not enable n77/n78, but the U/U1/W hardware for sure supports it

Then, we can deduce at leastbone or more of the following:
Both or either of the previously mentioned sites for band info have incorrect information (related to the E series of Samsung is used in MRU that has 5G in 4 spots on the island currently should work in Chile and possibly the B series (yeah, I know exynos)).
That carrier does not yet have 5G.
That carrier does not yet have 5G in that area where the OP is attempting to use the device.
The carrier uses bands other than N78 that that are not activated or oresent on the phone or recognized by the sim.
The carrier is blocking 5G based on the IMEI since it is not a carrier phone (I won't call Telus and Rogers out on that).
The plan is not a 5G plan (not all carriers include 5G on all their plans) and some only for tab users for that matter.
The sim is not a 5G sim or is defective (though I would think the account would determine what the sim is using).
Best Buy sold a defective phone.
Best Buy sold a phone with incorrect software like froma return or repackage or refurbishment (like when I install U or U1 cleanly on my direct from Samsung W series s22 ultra and neither Telus or Rogers will activate with 5G then forget to put back on W before I return it) though that seems far-fetched but possible.
Carrier-lock would appear not to be an issue as the OP gets LTE+.
Funny story: bought the a71 5G u1 series from the US and whether using XAA or TMB software, the Telus sim shows N41 and N66 (Telus 5G offering) when query of ths settings is initiated but the phone will not activate in Telus 5G (LTE only).
I say funny as an American living in Canada, the carriers here just copy the states (except for that carrier lock crap; forgot what is like).

I'm pretty sure Canadian carriers are actually worse than USA, just purely based on available plans and prices. There's the usual whitelisting BS as well. Thank God we still have TMobile, while having it's own BS, is bringing the competition and allowing pretty much anything on it's network.

What I think now is n78 is hardware supported but is locked or hidden especially on carriers outside US or by csc combi

So on that cacombos page, there is no "hardware" dropdown, so the hardware dump wasn't performed and is not a complete picture of what the device can do.

when i bought on bestbuy i told em i need the International one, unlocked and such, they said this was the one

Question 5G bands in the SM-G996W

Hello,
I am looking to buy an unlocked S21+ from Samsung Canada store (SM-G996W) and I checked here :
S21+ Differences that the following 5G bands: n2, n41, n66, n71 are the ones supported by the Candian model so my question is:
Is it possible to change the supported bands? For example, if I travel to a country where the used 5G band is the n28, will the S21+ support this band. If so, how please?
Btw, I have seen some users changing Network bands on Samsung devices without root so I want to make sure that it works with the 5G bands especially from someone who have a S21+ please?
Here is the link of the short tutorial: Un/Locking LTE Bands on Samsung I am talking about.
Thanks for your help

AFAIK this 5G bands are hardware related, not software related. So no "unlocking" in this case.

Question Will the S22 Ultra 'U' edition be dual sim (sim plus esim) ???

I know there will be B and '0' versions like s21 ultra that are dual sim, but does anyone know if the US versions of s22 will have their esims enabled like the s21U (well, they finally were)? I hope so. Anyone know anything?
Samsung US claims the US models will have Nano + ESIM, but I trust Samsung info like I trust a politician.
A little eSim hope

No, he's not. He promoted a scam phone, sold by a scam artist. then went on a racist rant when he was called out on it.

For all wondering, I received my ultra 22 unlocked and it has a SIM card manager, and I have set it up with SIM and esim. So yes is the answer to my original question.

You did it with the Unlocked version from Samsung right? OP was wondering if it would work the carrier variants. I'm also interested in this. Want to run dual sim, on different networks using a carrier branded version.

Yes, on the unlocked U version from Samsung. I have TMOB on esim and another carrier on SIM. Works same as my previous s22 which was a dual SIM. The only thing I haven't figured out is why I only see 5G and not 5G UC on TMOB, whether I get it or just dont see it.

I think you may be a little confused. There is no unlock u version from samsung. If you got it from Samsung and it's unlocked then it is the u1 version. The unlocked only means the SIM card. If you don't see the 5guc then you have the u1 version. If you were on the u version of T-Mobile's firmware then you would see the 5guc.
I am on the AT&t firmware on my s22 ultra. In the SIM card manager I don't see an option to turn my physical Sim into an esim. And the only way I can add an esm is if I have the QC code.
It am not confused! I have the U1 , that is correct. Though that doesn't answer why I would not see 'UC'. I have seen it for example on an unlocked Pixel 6 pro. Do you know for certain that no one with unlocked U1 sees UC?
With a physical dual sim model, can you use both physical sims and an esim?
mine is 1 nano +esim
Just finished setting up eSIM on the US SM-S908U1 S22 Ultra today working great better then expected.
I'm running my Sim biz card number off Xfinity mobile and activated the eSIM personal number off T-Mobile coz Xfinity don't support eSIM. Feels great to finally not have to carry around 2 phones for the first time.

Question CSC and 5G

Hi there, I have a new S22 ultra SM-908E but the region is for Latin America and other places in Europe. Everything works except 5G. Is there something I can do to fix this?
I look around for SM-S908E firmware with CSC TMB but there is none. I have Odin and tried different versions for the same model but no luck with 5g. I did this with an S21 ultra and 5g light up once I was able ti find the correct firmware for usa.
Thanks in advance..
There is no TMB CSC because no US carrier carries the SM-S908E. There is zero US firmware for that model.
What carrier? If T-Mobile you dont have 5G because its missing T-Mobile's 5G bands. Most specifically n71. It does support n41 on paper but I wouldnt count on that actually working.
Its also missing LTE band 71 for T-Mobile which for my area as an example mean you'd have no service while everyone around you would.

Hi Sorry to dig up an old thread. I'm in Canada and I have the same issue with no 5G on my 908E. When you say that there's no 5G mmWave, can't it use DSS to get 5g instead? If it can shouldn't it still be able to catch 5g that way?
TIA

Same issue here. No 5G on Telus, Bell or Rogers. I double checked the bands and the S908E should be compatible.

Same here on ATT and TMobile.. on att 5g bands are 5 and 77, both supported by s908e
On TMobile the 5g bands are 41 and 71, the phone supports 41 but not 71.. obviously no mmWave, but I should still be getting "low" or "mid" 5g, but I only get 4g/lte..
I have this app "net monster" that says 5g nsa is available at my location, but unable to connect
Anyone find any solutions?

As I know T-Mobile use B2, B4 and B5 for its 4G network.
Due to the NSA type, the phone needs to get information via 4G and it looks like S908E doesn't have these Combo.
S908E for n41 Combo: B1 B3 B8 B20 (information from https://cacombos.com/device/SM-S908E )
So this may be the cause that S908E cannot get 5G access via B2 B4 B5 ?

Will installing the Indian ROM work?
According to youtube link, it may work but u need to buy unlock phone only and it should be bought with full payment with no emis
And regarding warranty only Google support would answer best.
5g update will be included in December with feature update
The model sold in India is GP4BC, and the one in the US is GE2AE. The main difference is the radio bands, but I believe it should work fine.
For example, the GP4BC model supports LTE band 32, but GE2AE does not. However, from what I see, LTE band 32 isn't used in India. In any case, carriers support multiple LTE bands, so you should be fine for LTE coverage with the US model GE2AE.
For 5G, GP4BC supports two additional sub-6 bands (75 & 76). From what I see online, these 5G sub-6 bands aren't used by any carriers in India as well, so 5G sub-6 should also work fine if you buy the US GE2AE model.

Question S22 Ultra SM-S908U1 - it's the best choice?

Hello
I have a question. S22 Ultra SM-S908U1 - it's the best choice?
I am looking for a phone that I can use in the USA and in the EU (mainly in Poland).
In USA I use T-mobile USA and I'm looking model which one have dual sim or sim+esim.
In Poland I use usually Play P4 (need bands N1-2100 for 5G and B1, B3, B7 and B20 for 4G)
and sometimes T-mobile Poland (needs bands n1-2100, n78- 3500 for 5G and B1, B3, B7 and B20 for 4G)
Will the S22 Ultra SM-S908U1 be the best choice for me?
all S22 Ultra SM-S908U1 unlocked version from ebay have available 1 physical card sim + 1 esim?
other available variants S22 ultra:
SM-S9080/DS, SM-908E/DS, SM-S908B/DS
these above models are probably less compatible than SM-S908U1?
Thank you
I have looked at these options, I have always went for the dual SIM (SM-S908B/DS) for example. I have no problems with 4G anywhere I go, but 5G is limted as all the bands are not available out of the box. US model seem you can unlock these bands, however I have yet to find a way for SM-S908B/DS.
Not really sure why I need 5G to begin with, as I use less than 200Mbps a day and 4G it pretty robust in the countries I have traveled to in Asia and EU.
I checked this model on this site.
But I am not sure about the trust of the site....

The 5G compatibility option is important to me, because I want to buy a smartphone for more than 1 year
