Question [Poll] What is your S22 Ultra? - Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra

Hi everyone. Out of curiosity, what processor is your device and it is rooted?

what is an idea of device rooting in 2022?
Everything is working just fine, spamware uninstalled by ADB, ads blocked on PFSENSE, never used custom icons\launchers\etc...
probably networks unlock? what else

I rooted because of Viper4Android. I tried Wavelet and PowerAmp equalizer (this one is kinda good), but none can replace Viper4Android, expecially for me, that uses Samsung Galaxy Buds+, which doesn't have a good sound. And I love leastening to music. It's a pitty that I couldn't make it work in my SD yet. I'll keep trying.
Other pros are completely customization (I use 3mini battery, hate that stock 2 icons for battery that takes too much space). Better adblock, better backups and better youtube (Vance or other of the kind).

Lets discuss what we can do with our rooted V20!

Hey guys,
Its been a while since I rooted my phone (I've been using Samsung phones with locked bootloader) and it sure feels good to be back!
Now, I've been out of the loop for so long that I don't know what I should do next with my rooted V20!
I would love to have you guys come in here and discuss how we can make our V20 even better!
Thing's I've done so far.
Install Adaway
Remove Bloatware using titanium backup (is there better way to remove bloatware beside titanium backup?)
So far I removed all the TMobile apps, is there anything else I should remove that will improve the battery life?
Thanks and lets get this thread going! :good:

I hear ya, I was on a S7 Edge and a S6 before that. It has been a while. With that being said, LG stuff can mostly go....unless you use it. It doesn't seem to be too bad, so you might be able to leave them. Download Better Battery Stats and see what is causing any wakelocks that can be prevented.
Has anyone managed to get rid of Lookout? I hate that thing and want it gone.

Might want to FREEZE apps instead of uninstalling until a viable stock restore is available
Adblocking for sure. Should help improve battery life a hair by not downloading data for ads and processing them to be shown.
I smell a brick about to happen. Way too fast....How would you recover ? Be careful people.....Paperweights are not fun

From what I've read, TWRP isn't doing proper nandroids, and there isn't a stock image to flash. At the risk of sounding "elitist," I'd recommend going slow.

I know what's in the root thread in the development section.
Is this what you're looking for?
The problems with the .tot files in a nutshell.
I'm not a dev. I can bearly muddle my way around ADB commands. I know what I know from watching the struggles in the root thread. Yeah, there's root and little else. The process doesn't seem quite ready for prime time which of course hasn't stopped the root commandos.
I CAN CONTROL THE WORLD WITH ROOT! LOL . No but really, what can't you do with root? you can do everything as long as the phone doesnt required to implement any new hardware within the phone... I like my Adaway, and greenify, and removes or freeze apps i dont like nor need, I like my pie bar for faster shortcuts (sure, the phone itself has the second screen to put up to 5 apps, but the pie bar give you a lot more options so i will have the 5 on the second screen plus the many mores in the pie bar which is a fast process too, maybe even faster than the second screen), i also like my xposed for every module i desire, AND MY BELOVED TITANIUM BACKUP! and many many more things
The one thing I hope and pray to see come from this newly acquired root is a camera mod that will allow 16MP in full 16:9. Please pull through devs! I would donate for that :highfive:

That's likely because the sensor isn't 16:9 shaped, it's 4:3. You have to crop the sensor to get 16:9.

S8+ being laggy?

So my wife and I both got s8+ when they first got released. It seemed as if when we first got the phones, they were running flawlessly and fast as hell. Now a month or so later, both our phones seem laggy and sluggish. I always run device maintenance on both to keep things cleared up. Dunno what else to try. Wish we had root already so I can get rid of all this bloat and unnecessary stuff. Any recommendations from anyone? Dunno if maybe debloating apps or programs with a app is possible without root?

Have you checked who the offenders are in your phone? Which apps/processes are running the most and see if they are 3rd party apps that ruin the experience.
Have you tried changing launchers, maybe try Nova

I never faced any issues or lag except *bixby* for sure. I am using the exynos variant here i am not sure if it's something related to snapdragon chipset or not but
* we encountered lots of problems with note 4 snapdragon variants with emmc bug failure. The nand seems to be corrupted within 2 years and no solution for this kind of problem unless you buy a new motherboard
I bought this phone month a go and it runs as fast as it should
* my only advice for you is to try enabling debug GPU overdraw under developer option google it, definitely it's a 3rd party app causing this problem but in both phones i doubt.

For me also it's the same...the shutters and lags are more when I unlock the phone after few hrours of inactivity and after using the phone for a while they seem to reduce...my one plus3 was way smoother than this phone...

Yeah see how much free space you have left... on your internal memory? I have noticed that my phone is filling up with all sorts of crap from a couple games I play and stuff the little advert videos and stuff it's taking up gigs of space...
The only place I see lag in the UI was when using the stock launcher. On the Snapdragon S8+ that i have the launcher that came with the phone is the worst performing launcher I've had out of the box in my 5 years of buying Samsung phones.

IS there a way to root your XZP on oreo without using XperiaFIX

Okay so i knw if you need to root your XZP you need XperiFIX , But you have to pay 20Eu for that. i dunno where you guys live but from my country currency that's a hecking lot. i Wonder if there is a easy and a free way to do the root on oreos newest security patch with DRM keys. Thank you
20 EUR is a heck lot, but paying 750 EUR for a phone is not. Probably you live in a villa and drive a mercedes s klasse?
Sorry for trolling but I'm still not convinced to root. What do I gain? A poor xz2 camera port who brings minor improvements to low light and... and nothing out there.
Snappatch is eye candy but i will root for one of these 3 reasons: 120hz display, or fullhd 960, or 4k hdr recording.
Stock rom is the best right now. I have disabled all bkoatware, even youtube, facebook and Chrome. Now I'm using youtube vanced and opera browser both with adds blocking and the phone is super fast.

Actually you don't need to pay first that wasn't his full works coz there was some people who helped to find the drmfix and twrp and androplus kernel are free and you can find the drmpatch anywhere

Everything you want to do is available, but you have to be willing to use ADB and Fastboot to flash files. You don't "do root on Oreo's newest security patch." If you want to begin modding your phone then it's important to know what you are doing first.
To do anything you need to unlock your bootloader. This will completely remove the partition with your DRM keys (your camera won't work and you'll need a patch) and you can never restore them. Rooting and using a DRM patch simply 'fools' the system into thinking you have them. However, unlike most other Android phones, with so little development being done for this phone, if you like keeping your security updated, I'd strongly recommend not unlocking your bootloader. You can also never take another OTA update, so you'll need to become comfortable with either using one or two ROMs you can find forever and hope they're updated, or gather all the pieces and then install new stock firmware every time you want to update your system. And, you'll still need to hope someone updates a kernel that allows you to DRM patch your phone for each OS update.
However, if you do, then you can flash a custom recovery with Fastboot and from there on, pretty much do all your flashing from it.

How much does rooting your phone improve the OnePlus 7 Pro?

So I've never rooted a phone but have always been very interested in doing it. I'm just worried about bricking my phone since I have no experience doing it. Is it easy for a beginner to pick up and is it worth the risk? How much better does it improve your experience?
It's a personal thing. Most things you can do without root. Its a matter of personalization.
You can fix OnePlus’s ****ed up notification system. That alone is a big benefit.
You can't really brick the OnePlus 7 Pro, there are recovery options and people here to help if you do. It is extremely easy to do with little to no risk.

Explain this issue if you can. I was looking for a reason to root. I already got my sim unlock from T-Mobile. Only thing I'm missing is all my data backed up by titanium that I use on every device I get. I usually root day one but every passing day I appreciate Oxygen OS more and more. The experience reminds me of the old days of rooting the SAM**** and installing Cynagen. This is smooth as butter
Rooting actually let's you do a back up and restore if you do mess something up. It let's you remove apps that you don't want like for example sprint radio that I never used, can't remove without root. Root let's you use adblock and YouTube premium(ad free YouTube). Root lets you flash custom kernals even if on stock os, custom kernal can improve battery life. Ultimately things improved where u really don't need root like rooting a Samsung will cause a iressviserable Knox trip but one plus doesn't use Knox. And can be locked back to official status

what's wrong with it?
I have it rooted just as a "piece-of-mind" thing. And actually, it looks like YouTube TV took away 720P playback after I rooted. So there's a reason not to do it; first-party apps may not work properly to combat piracy, which is a load of crap if you ask me.
If you root, you won't be able to get anything above 480p or HDR on Netflix. Something to consider.

Wow really? Well damn that's pretty big reason not lol. I use Netflix all the time on my 7 Pro.
Getting rid of ads are a good point.. but then other than the occasional irritant, I don't mind them enough to want to root. Other than that, there is no other reason for me to root. I would love the helvetica nueve font. Haven't found a way to do that without root. But that's okay.. I am still not going to root.
Interesting enough I originally join this board to root, but I have not rooted any device in years.
Even reading the board there always seems to be some trade off.
New update, can not do it right away got to wait so you can root.
Apps that will not work when rooted, ok but almost always you can get them working.
..... Just not worth it anymore for me.
Now I am happy reading about things like the GCAM, and things other people are doing.

You will still get HDR but it will be in 480p. Most of of the time you will never notice the difference.
Even while unrooted, Netflix will only display 720p on the oneplus 7 pro. So you gotta weight your options here.

For me one of things for rooting is magisk modules for adblock, vanced youtube, debloating, themes, changing the navigation bar height, V4a, boosting the speaker audio and custom kernels as well as customization to OOS.

There are magisk roms like renovate that give you the option or you can download RomAur (based on OOS) which has all these customization baked without needing any extra modules.
Also many banking apps aren't keen on root. Mine does a bunch of different checks. Main reason I've not rooted.

Question Coming From Oneplus 6

Hey Folks
My Oneplus 6 just died (purchased 4 years ago) so tomorrow I have to go buy a new phone ASAP.
For the last decade I have been an XDA enthusiast (lurker) rooting/romming my phones to get TWRP/debloat/adAway/viper4android etc
I am leaning towards grabbing a S22U tomorrow from a retail store here in my country (Australia). Money is not an issue, I want the best phone I can get right now.
I currently don't have the personal time to be rooting/romming to get my new phone perfect and my understanding is Samsung phones don't permit that unless they trip Knox and create hardware problems I don't want to deal with.
So my question to you XDA is:
(1) Are there any system wide ad blocking alterntives equivalent to adAway that don't require root?
(2) What about audio? If we can't root then we can't run viper4android and get that elite sound right? Any workarounds or alterntives?
(3) Debloat? I usually just use Titanium Backup to nuke all the bundled trash in my phones, is there any alternative without root?
Thanks for any replies =]
1: Either DNS blocking (dns.adguard.com) or Alliance shield X which can block all ads and has customized firewall.
2: No idea what Viper did, but Samsung has Dolby sound and the speakers are fine.
3: You'll have to use ADB to debloat and there are several apps and lists you can use on your PC to debloat.
I used to root every phone I had, but since I switched to Samsung I don't really find it necessary and I often messed stuff up and bricked some phones. Also many banking apps wouldn't work, so.. yeah, not worth it anymore.

What are the odds that we are both updating from op6 to s22u?
1. I have been using dns ad guard thing the other user said.
2. s22u does have an equalizer if that's what you're looking for. It does not have a headphone jack so if you're an audiophile idk if its the right option. I can't tell the different between a flac and mp3 so I am not the right person to answer this lmao.
3. There is barely any bloat on s22u. I uninstalled pretty much everything and disabled 2-3 apps which couldn't be uninstalled. Your milage may vary obviously based on what you consider bloat and all that. At the end there are like two apps which bother me but I assume they are necessary for the phone to work so I can't disable them.

Samsung's workaround created two issues. Obviously one can't use headphones and charge the device simultaneously unless you employ wireless charging. Also there are very few earphones which connect using a Type C Connector. One option is Samsung's Type C Noise Cancelling Earphones. They sound pretty good with some nice bass as well.
Not a lot of purchasing options but they are available on Ebay. Other than that one can use Type C to 3.5 Jack adapter.
For superior audio I'd recommend Poweramp which incorporates an Equalizer.
PowerAmp is a great player with lots of settings. I have been using it for quit a while. I have a Watch4 Classic and the PowerAmp controls come up on it when I am playing songs. As for headphones, an adapter works fin and there are plenty out there. There are dual port adapters that will allow you to charge and listen at the same time, but I would recommend going to a wireless headset like the Samsung Buds, Bose Buds or any of the good quality buds out there.
I use ADB AppControl to disable any of the system loaded apps that I cannot uninstall. It does not remove the system apps and save you any room, but it does disable them so you do not see them any more. Also still will allow you to get updates without issues.
One thing I do recommend is get the 256M version or larger. Samsung has deleted the micro SD slot, so be sure to get enough RAM to cover yourself. You do have cloud storage for a lot of things though.

Yup +1 for Poweramp I deffinately will be installing that. Also going to grab the 512GB version.
One more question folks.
Is youtube Vanced still a thing? I think I recall seeing they have abandonded the project but it is still working fine on my Oneplus 6 although havent updated it in about 2 years.
If no Vanced, any suggestions for alternatives for adblcoking on youtube with background playback?

if you're looking to integrate your subscriptions/recommended videos Newpipe is honestly not it. Its a great app if you don't rely on your google account. Vanced still works if Newpipe doesn't do it for you like it didn't for me.
This is the only true non-root alternative to viper. Stumbled across this the other day and I'm blown away.

Perfect! thats exaclty what I was looking for. Much appreciated.
Next dns is a great alternative to adguard. It's a no root dns alternative. I don't use adblocking through a vpn because I also have a vpn app I use and they conflict.
