i have the a21 and i have this notification now that tells me I have a new voice mail but i never set up voice mail and doing tons of online research i find none of the help does me any good.
when i go to the keypad and hold 1 then it takes me to the keypad again. i try to set up a voice mail number and it fails. it wants a password and because i have yet to set up voice mail i do not have one. i enter numbers and even my phone number and it tells me invalid and hanges up. so how in the world do i set this up ? or because i have a free lifeline from the wife's metro pcs phone i can't set one up?
but i want that notice off the screen it is annoying me and i can't get rid of it. i'm about ready to do a factory reset and then copy my app again from my old Tracfone.
could this issue be because this a21 boots with tracfone icons as i got it free from tracfone in january?
any help welcome. if i have to factory reset and it comes back i guess my next step is a hammer. i hate this sorry phone. see the phots of what i have and it jsut will not go away
thanks
ok so i called metro pcs ant they had to reprovision the phone, wow and i still have notice on the pulldown screen but they also said i did not have voice mail set up and that after i get it set up it should go away. when i tried to set up voice mail it asked for the password and i did not have one or know what that was and the metro person told me the password is the last 4 digits of the phone number. so i wonder why that info in not on the online help sites that tell how to set up voice mail? not even on the a21 website said the password was the last 4 digits of the phone's number. also metro told me that if i still have the notice after setting up the voice mail to leave a voice mail and see if deleting it will take that notice away.
i hate this phone. are all samsung phones this hard to figure out? wow!

so, i registered for google voice in the past and im thinking about actually using it now for the new thunderbolt since i wanted a new number anyway. has anyone used google voice on verizon before? what should i keep in mind when making the decision or not? does it ring a ton of times before going to voicemail like it did on sprint? have there ever been any issues with verizon and google voice or don't they mind if you use it? thanks.

I've had it for years. No issues on VZW. Just like your normal number. Voicemail is transcribed for you, though it's not very accurate. You can usually figure out what they're trying to say. If not, you can play the message and listen to it.
I've been very happy with Google Voice on my Android phones. The voice-to-text isn't as good as some other systems I've seen, but it works well enough.
Download the app and give it a try. I think when I set my up on the TB, it gave an error complaining about being able to configure VZW. That was a new error I hadn't seen on my Inc. You may need to manually configure the "no-answer" call forwarding to your GV number. The setup should configure your phone to dial your GV number when you hit the 1 button for "Voicemail".
Give it a try!
Google Voice is the greatest thing since sliced bread, especially if you have multiple phones...one number to rule them all!
I'm testing the theory right now, but on T-Mobile people with NOT-unlimited plans were assigning their GV number as one of their Fave 5 (Friends & Family on VZW) and then telling the phone to make and receive all calls via GV, in effect giving them unlimited minutes. Does anyone know for sure if this works on VZW or not? I've set mine up that way (900 minute plan), and my used minutes seem to suggest that it will, but there's no minutes being charged to F&F on my online billing page yet.
The only thing holding me back is the apparent lack of mms. Not that many people send me picture messages, but id like for them to at least get a rejection message saying its not possible on ny device so they know it wasnt received

Google Voice Setup for Voicemail only
I had a problem setting up voicemail for my verizon number to work with google voice and thought I would share how i corrected it.
I installed GV app and it said my carrier does not support automatic config.
I could view old messages I had but all new incoming calls went to my verizon VM
In order to route calls to GV VM I had to
Dial *71xxx-xxx-xxxx where xxx is your google voice number and hit call
it will beep a few time then hang up
next
Dial *90xxx-xxx-xxxx where xxx is your google voice number and hit call
it will beep a few time then hang up
next
Dial *92xxx-xxx-xxxx where xxx is your google voice number and hit call
it will beep a few time then hang up
next
This successfully routed all incoming calls to my google voice.
To deactivate call being routed you must do this
*73 call
*900 call
*920 call
Hope this helps someone else.

Agreed. The crappy texting service that GV provides is the only thing keeping me from using it full time. MMS isn't the only issue.
I'm gonna drop the Verizon text add-on and give it a try. $70/mo for unlimited LTE is amazing!
Anything I should do to make sure im not being charged for texts? Just composing them within the voice app so I think I'm ok, just slightly paranoid.

I love the texting service from GV. It's my primary means of communicating with many people. There's so many advantages to it, including, in no particular order:
1) It's free. I turned off my SMS plan with AT&T last summer and have been 100% exclusive GV for texts since. I'm saving $20/month on my AT&T phone bill and selected NO text messages on my new Verizon account and I still have unlimited texts.
2) It works across multiple phones, platforms, devices all at the same time. When you send me a text to my GV number, it shows up on all four of my active cellphones, and on all of my computers and laptops that have GV web page open or the GV plugin (for Chrome). I can respond to them without even pulling my phone out of my pocket if I'm at the computer.
3) My texts are automatically backed up in the Google cloud, no need to worry about losing them or backing them up special on my phone as I swap ROMs or wipe data. And I can access them from any phone or web enabled computer.
4) I get all my messages, no one's ever complained that I didn't respond to something they sent that didn't come through. Seems very reliable to me after 15 on it.
As for MMS service, I think Steve Jobs was correct, albeit too far ahead of his time, when he said on the original iPhone that you didn't need MMS, just use email on a smartphone. It was a bit painful way back then (2007...seems so long ago in cell phone terms) at first, but once I trained all my contacts to just send via email I haven't missed any of the pics they want to share, and I'm not paying anything extra to the phone company for the privilege of getting a lower resolution image that's been scaled down to meet MMS limitations.
Thanks for the directions on setting up GV Voicemail, I had to google the instructions (go figure) and found the same info after a quick search. Tested it today and it's working like a champ.
Sweet Jesus I really dig this phone.
I was told by the verizon customer service rep that call waiting is no longer available if you route GV to be the VM service. Anyone else successfully rig it so they can still maintain call waiting but use GV to intercept voicemails?
I have never had a problem with call waiting. Also when I set it up on my Thunderbolt I got the error message as well but when hit skip and went thru the rest of the steps, I checked to see if it was set in my phone settings and it was had a buddy call to test it and it worked just fine not really sure what happened to make i just work without haveing to complete the step where it makes you make the calls during set up but mine is working just fine.
Oh yeah guess I should mention I only you it for the visual voice mail though.

Great info! thanx.
Question, how did you get GV to sync your GV on-line contacts list to your phone?
When I setup my phone it would not recognize my GV login and would tell me I didn't have a google account and to create a new one.
After creating a Gmail account it did recognized my phone and said you can use more than one google account login.
My GV login is working now, but I cant access my GV contacts unless I open a browser and login via the web access.
Any suggestions?
Thanx
figured it out, you have to apply a new account using the web assist option if not using gmail.

I figured out what was wrong with Google Voice. It doesn't work with the 747 area code because Gizmo numbers used to start with 747. Its the new overlay for the San Fernando Valley. 818 area code is running out of numbers. I snooped around my Verizon account page and I was able to change it to a 818 #.
All is right in the world.
Just switched to Verizon last week (got the Droid Charge) and have been trying to get GV working for my outbound calling. I keep getting an error (bad number when it tries dialing out, and have seen more than one bad number). I googled looking for help with it...found tons of 3 year old posts with vague answers...
Anyone else had this issue? Know how to resolve it? Everything else with GV works fine on my phone, just can't dial out.
Thanks -

Ok, I tried this and every time I do and call from another phone, there is nothing there for google voicemail. It says "please enter the number you would like to call followed by the # sign". What am I doing wrong? I dialed all 3 *numbers followed by the google voicemail number. I've tried this like 3-4 times. Help!

You need to login in to your google page and activate it, don't remember how but the help section on your google voice page has the steps
Bamf is runnin' my bolt - smoke that vzw!
whenever I go to dial the x71xxx-xxx-xxxx i get a message saying "welcome to verizon wireless your call can not be completed as dialed.
I need some help with GV, but I don't know if the problem is with my account or another GV account. Ok here's what is going on; my friend setup a GV number and account yesterday to use for our business and it goes straight to voicemail when *I* call it. One of our other friends called it sitting right next to us and his phone rings like normal. But I have been trying since last night and it has never rang once, it only says something like "the Google Voice subscriber is unavailable. He said this morning that no one at work is having any trouble with that number either, why is it just me?
We have the EXACT same settings on the app, the EXACT same settings on the web version, he can call my GV number and it rings just fine, I have called his GV number with my GV number AND my Verizon number. Nothing works and I have tried everything! Do Not Disturb is not checked, he has no special call settings for particular numbers, groups, days or times.
It's almost like it's blocking me automatically, but everyone else has no problem. I have had GV since it came out and have never had a problem before. Can anyone please help?
I noticed the EXACT same thing.
I lost my wallet at GreatClips after I got my hair cut (it was under a towel).
I drove home and looked high & low but couldn't find it.
So I figured I left it in my Semi-Truck and called them to tell them I had to drive 20 miles and would be back to pay.
They said they found it and tried to call.
When I got there they called my phone (GV #) and I got the same recording you did.
I haven't heard of this before until now, I thought it was because I'm using version 0.3.4
Google "Google Voice issues" and it'll direct you to their help forum.
Hello, This is my first post, I've done a lot of searching on here and google and am at my wits end with my google voice account and my new phone (Droid Charge).
It was working fine with my previous phone...and still does if i swap it to foward to it (Sprint - Blackberry Style).
I'm running PBJT kernel, and GummyCharged 1.7.5 - and did a wipe and cleared all of the options available to clear when flashing my rom.
Here is the problem: When I add my verizon droid charge's phone number into my google voice account it wants me to verify the phone. I hit call to verify but I never get the call. The only issue I could find on google voice help was people having problem entering the two digit code after the call comes through. That's not my problem. My call never comes through.
If I set it to another number, a different cell phone or land line...it rings and I can enter the 2 digit code, and it's working perfectly.
If I try to use the "add this phone" through google voice on my droid charge. It looks like it verifies because on the google.com/voice in the phones section it no longer says I need to verify. However, still having an issue because if you call the google voice number, it will not ring my verizon number (droid charge). It's worth noting that If I text it works. Just not the calls. Also if I leave a voicemail it will notify me on my phone as it should. The application works fine, etc. Just have never gotten it to ring my phone.
I'm about ready to have Verizon try and change my phone number, but wanted to ask here if anyone had any ideas to try. I honestly cannot remember if I tried to do it before rooting this phone, but my gut tells me I tried and it still didnt work. And yes, the checkbox to "forward calls to phone" is checked.
I've also tried from a friends google voice account seperate from mine. Tried to have them add my number, then when they need to do the verification step that calls the phone....of course...I never get the call.
Frustrating!
Thank you for any insight...
Is your GV number your primary number? If not you could also port your number over as an alternitave: google.com/support/voice/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=1065667
I know that there is an error saying my carrier is not supported when I try to setup my voicemail with the Charge, so I think it is either the phone or LTE. I had no problems setting it up when I used my Moto Droid, so I know Verizon works.
Since I'm already setup, I just ignore the error. That might not help you much, but like the suggestion porting your number will be your best bet. I hear switching back to a 3g phone temporarily will disable your sim card, and you'll have another headache on your hands.
Thanks for the replies. My sister actually has the same phone but stock etc etc. Going to have it forward to hers and see if that is a fix. I dont really want to have my google voice be my only number but I may do that porting if worse comes to worse.

Hello all Xda'ers,
First of all, I am deaf and I was put on a special data plan that is customized for the hard of hearing and deaf subscribers. When I first got my NS4G, I got that voicemail icon as soon as I walked out of Sprint store. I should have went back to talk to the rep but I was late for work.
With that said, since May 8th, I still have that icon and I have been looking for solutions to remove it. I have searched this site as well as other sites for any remedies but with no avail. I do have Google Voice and have had GV set to use my current phone number so the voicemail can be ported over then I disabled GV after 20 minutes and the voicemail icon is STILL THERE!!!
I even tried Youmail and my heart jumped when it said I had one voicemail message and I was like YES! but then it was the youmail voicemail, probably greeting and congratulating me for installing youmail on my phone, because I saw what the message was and deleted it, but nope, VM icon is still there...
I have read somewhere, where you power down the phone, take the battery out for 30 seconds then put it back and power back on and it should be gone. Well, I did that and even waited 5 minutes and as soon as my homescreen came up, bam! voicemail icon appears. I told my Sprint rep that I can't remove it and he said something that struck me as odd. He said the NS4G has a visual voicemail and I should be able to remove it with no problem. I searched everywhere on the phone and couldn't find it. He said he got the same phone, even bought it right after selling me and my wife the phones. I emailed back and haven't heard from him since so...
I really don't want to put a ROM on this phone, probably because I have been putting it off since but other than putting a ROM on my phone, is there a solution to finally get that VM icon off?
Oh, to add, I have had my hearing friend call my voicemail for me, but he said that the automated response was something like, "This is no longer in service, the number you are trying to dial does not exist" or something like that, but he was NOT able to access my voicemail at all.
Sorry if this has been resolved elsewhere, but I had searched everywhere on this forum as well as all over the Internet as you can tell, it took me since May 8th to finally give up and post this on Xda, but why? You all are awesome!
I'm having this problem too ever since we got my wife the mytouch 4g slide. The CSR told me that I needed a new sim card. We put it in my NS and there is the icon.
I'm currently trying to put it back on T-Mobile voicemail service and calling my line from my work cell. It went to my GVoice so far so I guess I need to leave it for longer.
Pyro,
Since you are on Sprint I may have a solution. I also have this happen once in a while. After spending much time on the phone with Sprint here is their solution. Go to a land line phone and call your cell. Let it go to voice mail, give it a couple of minutes. Now on your cell go to your voice mail. You should have the message you left yourself. Listen to it all the way through and only press "7" to delete the message after the system prompts you to. After deleting the message hang up. The voice mail notification should disappear. This is a known Sprint problem, according to Sprint. If this doesn't work, take your phone to a Sprint repair center.
Good luck.
I just re-read your post. If your problem is the same as mine, you may have to have a hearing friend do this. I am not sure what Sprint may have installed on your phone to make it more usable for you.
I want to use Google voice. When I try and set it up from my PC it says the phone # is already in use on a different voice account and won't let me proceed .
I called sprint and they told me its a Google problem. I emailed Google support I found but that was a few weeks ago.
How can I get my phone # removed from an unknown Google account and set it up with my Gmail account ?
I've searched and Google but can't find any answers:
So let me get this straight. When someone calls your phone and leaves a message you have no way of retrieving that?
What happens if you install GV on your android phone. Doesn't it then know which number is on your phone device?
Seems like it should work as long as you sing in on your phone with the same Google account you are trying to setup GV on.
That is correct.
I have tried to install Google voice on my phone as well and it gets to the part where it verifies your phone # . Every time it says your phone # could not be verified. Sprint did tell me I could change my # but there must be a better way ?
OK. Here is another question as I research things (many similar cases).
Did you setup your phone with this GV account and no longer have access to it or you had recently acquired a new number which was already attached to a GV account outside of your control?
The first android phone I had a Samsung moment and I set GV up on it . Then I had an epic and at one point had GV setup with the same gmail account i always use. I've had this phone # since 2006. The phone I'm using now I have never been able to set GV up on.
This is driving me crazy it seems like I'm missing something really really stupid and simple.
So far I've found that dialing *730 and then dial button should remove the forwarding on your phone.
If not, call sprint and tell them you have setup call forwarding on your phone and you would like it to be removed. Don't even mention GV. They should be able to help you and after that you should be able to complete GV setup.
This is what GV does. It sets your phone with forwarding and this can simply be reverted on your carrier side. The sprint rep juts didn't know anything about GV.
I dialed the *730 number and it beeped then hung up then I called sprint and asked them to remove forwarding on this number. She said that's all taken care of. Still can not get GV to verify the phone # and on the PC it still says this number is already in use on another account. Reading around the inter webs it seems a pretty common issue with no resolution? How is that possible

It may seem odd but try another phone. I mean have them replace it for you. It may be something backed into that phone which is stuck and won't release the forwarding.
I still have my epic I could put it back on my sprint account and try it. Thanks , will let u know how it goes
GV is good when it works but terrible when it doesnt... GV Support will never get back to you...
I had an issue that I ported a number OUT of GV to a cell phone and would never get text messages... Took me 2 weeks to figure it out but the service providers thought my phone was a landline and would reject SMS.. There was no easy fix so I had to bite the bullet and get a new number...
I'm just going to get a new number I think . Might be refreshing
