Android File decryption after failed update and bootloop - General Questions and Answers

Hi there, I have a Poco F1 with LineageOS 19, Magisk + TWRP 3.6.1_9-0 and wanted to do an OTP update. However TWRP didn't prompt me to input my device PIN and it just updated the system anyway. TWRP did prompt me when I was on LOS 18 and TWRP 3.6.0_9-0
After restarting, my F1 got stuck in a bootloop, everytime restarting itself after 2-4 minutes.
I managed to get back to TWRP (still no PIN prompt) but I see that my internal storage is encrypted.

Now is it possible to somehow decrypt my files on PC or on the phone itself before I wipe everything?
Yes, I don't have any recent backups (at least 5 days ago) and would like to get some of my files back.
Thanks,
Vanta

Edit after 2 hours: I decided to wipe my phone, but knowing about the possibilities to recover from this would be nice anyway.

Xiaomi somehow made encryption insecure (intentionally?) by removing secure start-up. side effect it broke old encryption completely on upgrade. if you boot into OrangeFox recovery you will notice (regardless of FBE encryption) no screen lock credentials needed anymore
edit: only concerns MIUI not sure about LineageOS though
Why can I view files from "Internal Storage" WITHOUT entering password either in OrangeFox recovery or via USB cable on PC?
I was under impression that all user files are encrypted by default in Android using FDE. It was to my surprise that I can just run, for example, OrangeFox recovery and when it asks me for a passw...

I recently read that TWRP doesn't support decryption of Android 12, that's why my system broke after the OTA upgrade over the recovery...

Magisk issues with poco x3 nfc

I am successfully rooted and have magisk but the modules aren't working after I install them and reboot???? Also dad of four here that is a total pc and general tech idiot so take it easy on me. I rooted my phone remembering the days of wifi kill in hopes of lording over the wifi but it seems those days are long gone so now I have an unlocked bootloader so I can change fonts? Real cool. Anyways. The modules on magisk say they are installing and ready for reboot and nothing after that. Help a dumb old man have fun with his android again.... Please.
What modules are you testing? And where are you finding them?
Many modules do their thing in the background (after you have installed them and rebooted), so you might not immediately see the result in the form of a new app or similar. Might also be that the modules you are trying are outdated and can't install properly on any up-to-date releases of Magisk.
And, if you're still on MIUI, you can get new fonts in the themes app.
Sorry for the delay look

I finally figured out what I was doing wrong only to get hung up on the very next step.
I have a problem with Magisk.
(Poco X3 surya global V12.5.1.0.RJGMIXM, Magisk v23)
When I install Magisk.zip with brigudav twrp-3.5.2_10-5 phone won't boot to the system and go back to recovery (created boot.img is not ok)
And I am trying second method trow MagiskManager select&patch boot.img from ROM copied on phone. Created patched_boot.img flashed from pc
with "fastboot flash boot patched_boot.img" with same result phone won't boot to the system and go back to recovery. To solve this I just flash
original boot.img and phone boot to system normaly.
With Andrid 10 everything was work normaly and after Android 11 problem is here, now with V12.5.1.0.RJGMIXM problem persist.

[Help Needed] Soft-bricked device

To tell you the short story, I was dumb.
I rooted my oneplus 8 using magisk, but the WiFi didn't work. I had no idea how to unroot a oneplus 8 so I just used msmdownloadtool for my device and got an error "param preload failed". My device is now broken.
What I have tried.
Flashing all files and partitions. (I get an error saying something along the lines of system partition not found, i will attach image below).
msmtool in usb 3 and 2 on Ryzen and intel (i get param preload failed error every time).
What I want to try.
Unlock critical flashing and try flashing all files and partitions again (scared of har bricking device).
What happens when I boot.
First thing I've noticed is boot time has been greatly increased ever since rooting. Without a system rom I boot to a black screen but the strange thing is, that is i hold down power down i still get a stock android power off and reboot popup.
My device:IN2013 European oneplus 8 (was on oos 11)

Please, any help is greatly appreciated. I have only had this phone for a month and a half. Also if you do answer make it very clear as I am fairly new to all this.
I would download the fastboot ROM from here: https://sourceforge.net/projects/fastbootroms/files/OnePlus 8/11.0.0-EUROPE-OnePlus8Oxygen_15.E.30_OTA_0300_all_2009301818_e9aef8a82-FASTBOOT.zip/download
And just start again. Don't forget to wipe internal before you flash.
Also, make sure you are in fastbootd and not fastboot.

If you want to use TWRP on android 10 or 11 it is recommended to use SHRP or OFOX

Disable encryption in MIUI 11?

Hi there,
How to remove encryption in MIUI 11?
I tried the following methods.
1. "Settings -> Passwords & security -> Privacy -> Encryption & credentials" -- it shows "Encrypted", though I never chose it.
Spoiler: Screenshot1

"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
"Clear credentials" did not help.
Spoiler: Screenshot 2
2. I tried, in Magisk, when choosing "boot.img" to patch", by unchecking "Preserve force encryption"
Spoiler: Screenshot 3
After rooting, the issue prevailed.
3. I booted into Orangefox recovery, formatted the data (yes), and clean-flashed the stock rom (MIUI 11).
Before and after clean-flashing, I checked two boxes below in Orangefox
- "Disable forced encryption"
- Disable DM-Verity.
Spoiler: Orangefox Settings
4. In fastboot mode, I flashed a Magisk-patched boot.img (that had been patched, before flashing the full stock rom, in a previously installed same stock rom).
All the above steps were performed before booting into MIUI 11.
5. After booting into system,
adb shell recovery --wipe_data --set_filesystem_encryption=off did not succeed in turning off encryption, either. (Source: Removing encryption from recovery. Stackexchange).
By the end, the data partition remained encrypted.
Thanks in advance for your advice.
May you need any further information, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Regards,
Wy
I think you need to first flash the rom then the disable force excryption to make it work
fstab is in /vendor/etc (not boot)

Dificulty root redmi note 7

Which Miui 12.5.3 settings on Redmi Note 7 prevents rooting? I always root using the root.img file modified by magisk or install TWRP and confirm using the root checker but when restarting the smartphone the root or TWRP is lost canceled
in system settings it says bootloader is unlocked
My guess is it's inproperly rooted. Start rooting from the scratch again - as ROOT.
I've tried several times and it didn't work I use minimal adb, twrp, smartphone in fastboot installs twrp normally but if I turn off or restart the smartphone twrp erases it doesn't start what starts is the Main Menu

Use the Android USB Drivers suitable to your phone what are provided by Xiaomi, not any other ADB/Fastboot drivers.

i don't know where to download these drivers there are many different files of drivers but i have a Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 (not Pro) but i don't believe that this driver is the problem because i managed to install TWRP but if i restart the smartphone it is lost along with the root

stock recovery is restored from boot, that is so for each and every device from the very beginning, absolutely normal behaviour. it is also written on the instructions.
https://twrp.me/xiaomi/xiaomiredminote7.html
what is root.img? Where did you got it, and how did you flash it?
I don't want this restoration I want to use TWRP
bypass this restore to use only TWRP
