Question s908e 5g question - Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra

anyone using a s908e variant of the phone in canada or i guess us?? can anyone tell me if the 5g works on the phone? i see the phone supports n38 and 66 which are used in canada along with 71 which the phone doesn't support i believe?? so theoretically it should work right? but i also heard stories that non canadian 5g phones the 5g doesn't work with the carrier because it's not approved..
reason i'm asking instead of just purchasing the canadian version of the phone is 1 the the s908e i can get a lot cheaper than the s908w it's like $400 cheaper for the 512gb.. and 2 the bootloader should be unlocked in the s908e?

Also i dont know if im ever going to use 5g but does it support 5g bands in the Us? Please let me know because im about to go thru a lot of trouble just to get it haha
Hong Kong variant doesn't support 5G bands used in US.
I use this in usa with t-mobile and att sim. 4g works without issue

The AWS band 4 3G is missing on the Hong Kong variant but it’s present on the SM-N985F variant same with LTE band 66.
Would that matter too much ? I’m thinking if you’re using Ting maybe.

Are the European 5G bands same as USA AT&T 5 G bands?

I bought international Note 20 ultra with Exynos chip. I am using it here in USA on AT& T network, but it seems like the 5G bands are not compatible with European 5G's networks because I am getting horrible speeds. Even on 4G. I went to AT&T store to see if they can do something, and they upgraded my plan to 5G plan, changed the sim card but that did nothing. Anybody knows if the bands are same for international models and US models? I am ready to sell the device in Europe and buy unlocked US version. What speed are you guys getting? I am lucky to pull 30mbps, in some areas not even that. I live in greater Los Angeles area, so there should be good coverage, right?
I do not believe they are the same

I'm curious to know why you imported / purchased the N20 Ultra with Exynos when we in the Uk and other regions are clamouring for the Snapdragon version ?
I was tempted to import a N20 Ultra from Hong Kong but was advised against it due to possible issues with signal and connectivity.
5G bands are totally different. You won't get 5G on ATT

The Global version does not have ATT's 5G band: https://www.kimovil.com/en/frequency-checker/US/samsung-galaxy-note-20-ultra

I have spend more than 6 months in Europe last year, so I was thinking it's no big deal to buy in Europe. I also root my phones regularly, which lately is not that necessary, I have to admit.

Is there a way to make the 5G of my US variant Note 20 Ultra to work in another country?

I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G bought from the US (SM-N986U1) and I am currently in the Philippines. Is there any way I can make the 5G work here? If currently there is no way, would you think there will be in the near future?
Depends if the 5g bands are the same in both countries (and operators), you'd need to check that.
You could try the whitelisting method used on the Hong Kong variants which allows 5g use in Europe. Google it.
This is interesting part. I've been thinking about this not long time ago. My idea is as HK variant has same chipset etc, except storage with USA variant. So I believe it possible in some way to enable hidden or locked 5G bands on USA variant.
Not possible make to work because it do not support bands used bands and combinations used in Philippines: https://cacombos.com/device/SM-N986U

hi mate just for knowing, i had this idea to import myself a broken note 20 ultra 5g US variant, you said that the 5G is not working. Did the 4g,3g or 2g worked for you? im from italy and i found on ebay a good priced phone, but now im scared that the network will not work for me. i found the philippines band chart with all the frequencies and bands. like in italy, only one/two of them are supported and i would like to know if the network was working.

Hey there. Yes. My former Note 20 Ultra 5G US variant's 4G is working in the Philippines.
I recommend you get also the Hong Kong (Snapdragon) variant instead, as I have read somewhere that HK variant's 5G could work in the UK.

Well this answers my question. I recently bought a US version note 20 ultra 5g and having trouble activating the 5g on my phone which seems to be impossible. I should have bought a snapdragon hk version instead then. This is very frustrating cause I'm really enjoying the benefits of a Note phone.

Question does the exynos model get 5g in the US?

Cause I bought a exynos note 20 ultra last year off amazon and it could only get to lte but not 5g and I got it to get 5g and be able to root. So I returned it and just got a snapdragon version and just lived without root which is honestly fine btw. Will the same thing happen if I buy an exynos s22 ultra? Or can the snapdragon version be rooted this time? Pls don't yell at me if this has been asked but the search bar here is confusing and I'm baked af

Well, not knowing which carrier you use, I don't know what else to say.... Perhaps take a look at the source the next time you're not "Baked AF".....
No ill will intended, but, if you give the site a good look, you'll be able to figure it out.

The most reliable way to ensure your device will support 5G is aquire your Service Provider's device.
Typically with the Exynos variants you can access root but since it's a brand new version ask a Exynos user if bootloader unlock is available in developer options. If you're going to be in US it probably won't connect.
Again typlically only the Snapdragon version from China, Taiwan and Hong Kong (SM-G9080) will offer unlocking the bootloader. If you're going to be in US it probably won't connect.
Be aware OneUI 4.1 may have eliminated bootloader unlock.

Thanks bud, what a gentleman I have tmobile in the US. So your saying if I get a tmobile exynos I can have 5g in the US no prob? And is snapdragon s22 ultra rootable or is it just the exynos version?

The T-Mobile device is a Snapdragon variant, if that's your carrier and you need 5G it's your best option. The T-Mobile device, if it's the same as it's predecessor the S21 Ultra, can't be rooted. T-Mobile only sells Snapdragon variants.
My experience with a HK s21 ultra that has the same bands as exynos s21 is that 5G doesn't work in the US asot didn't have
the key 5G bands. On TMobile it sometimes says 5G as the device has one if the bands tmob uses for 5G in the US but it's phantom, and you only get 4G.

Yep, I have the SM-G9980 on T-Mobile and Network Mode displays 5G but it never connects. For me 5G is close to useless and I'd rather not have T-mobile's bloatware and prefer the unlocked bootloader. Not to mention no long term carrier commitment if you're looking for a discount on a new device.

Question The S9080 Variant

So, I was planning to order an S22 Ultra (US here) but I wanted to get a rootable version. The 0 version (Hong Kong) of Samsung phones is usually rootable + bootloader unlockable, plus it has a Snapdragon, but I was wondering if it of was any use under Verizon.
Does anyone else have any experience under Verizon using the S9080 or any of the Hong Kong variant phones? Cellular capabilities? Aggregation? VoLTE?

I have the S21 Ultra Hong Kong device. It works on Verizon but no 5G or Carrier Aggregation. You’ll likely get 4G LTE and WiFi Calling. Guessing the HK S22 Ultra will as well.

Isn't the device 5G? Why doesn't it work? Isn't the 5G a universal thing?

No, it's not universal, you can ask Verizon if they can provision it but likely they can't. This may have changed with the S22 Ultra but I doubt it.
