No SIM detected (SIM works fine) - General Questions and Answers

PROBLEM:
Purchased new sim card with Mint Mobile for Google Pixel 3. Phone is not recognizing SIM card. Google Pixel 3 Forum did not respond. Is there another place to put this question?
DETAILS:
Phone is compatible, sim is functioning and active.
Bought phone on Ebay. Seller said it is unlocked. IMEI Check came back inconclusive though.
Sim Status: Not Available.
Phone number: Unknown.
Phone did not come with SIM Tray. Purchased google Pixel 3 XL sim tray online. Seems to fit right into slot.
Double checked sim was inserted on correct side. Reset network settings + Factory reset phone.
Sim works fine in Razer 2 Phone.
SIM option greyed out in Network Settings.
QUESTION: Does anyone have any troubleshooting solutions? I would like to switch to this phone and I need the phone to recognize the SIM card.

Clear data in Sim Toolkit.
Network reset.
Check hidden phone settings.
Check sim card electrical contacts... that's all I got.
Return for refund.

Hidden phone settings? you mean developer mode options? Do you know which options would be causing the issue? I skimmed over them and didn't know what I was looking for.

What do you mean by SIM electrical contacts? Are you referring to the hardware?

Ones not accessible to a stock Android user like toggling on the blue light filter. In settings it will be off but it's running anyway. A book reading app did that to me when it did an unclean uninstall. I had to reinstall it, change the setting, then uninstall again to fix the issue.
Perhaps accessible with adb editing but you would need to find it first.
Otherwise a factory reset would be needed to purge the erroneous setting.

i don't think that most of these apps will still work if you disable mobile data or even remove the sim. i guess most of them use the google market push option to lock/wipe/whatever and without internet access they won't ever receive the lock/wipe request.
so i think they're just useful if you lost your phone and no one has found it already...

That's the problem all of these apps suffer from. An experienced thief will pull out the SIM card as soon as he can to cut off the mobile phone network and data connection. We've had a few iPhones/Blackberrys stolen at work and they disappear from the network minutes after so they don't respond to a wipe command sent from Exchange or a SMS with a wipe command in it.
I guess the apps are useful if you have lost your phone, or if somebody isn't savvy enough to remove the SIM. I use an app like this, but back it up with another; Autowipe. This lets you wipe the phone if the person changes the SIM or puts the incorrect password/pattern/pin in a number of times. Granted, it won't get your phone back, but it should protect your data.
If you're interested; its here:

(I know it's in the Nexus One forum, but it works on an HTC Desire too).
I use prey ... it texts you the new sim card number to a nominated other number when the sim card is changed. I have not tried putting in a different sim but in theory it should lock the phone when a new sim is put in.
None of these programs work when you reflash the phone though.

That's interesting and an improvement on what I have seen before, but it still leaves your data at risk: after stealing your phone, I'll hold down the power button and put it into aircraft mode; now I can keep trying your swipe pattern until I get access.
Personally I want the data wiped off the phone immediately. I guess stuff like this should be built into Android so it can't be removed.
But thanks for the heads up re prey. I'll take a look at that.

Mobile Networks missing

SM-G920F Galaxy S6 (G20FXXU5DQA2)
flashed back to stock and everything is 100% stock but the mobile networks in settings is missing and the sim cards wont work, it detects them being inserted but doesnt seem to connect.
Please help, couldn't find anything
Messing around with mobile data gives "insert sim card"
tried to factory reset from recovery, clearing the cache and reset from the Smart Switch desktop software.
Could possibly be an issue with the sim card slot, does the phone show a valid imei number?

100% hw, faulty SIM reader, cold solder, or something else on motherboard.
Try to ask in Samsung authorised repair center, maybe if you are lucky like me, factory warranty would be accepted.
I just told them I bought the phone second hand and it does not recognize SIM, did not go into details
force stop stuck on s6

The same thing happened to my G920P and I was stressing out looking for a solution. Finally, I figured it out myself.... I used idonne apps unlocking service awhile ago and still had their unlock app installed on my device. After trying repeatedly to no avail to unlock again I finally started looking thru the 3 dot settings and manuvered to the IOT HIDDEN SETTINGS TAB. From there I went to the "test mode menu" setting. Then to HW Test setting, down to #7 NV Rebuild All. Clicked that and let it do it's thing and all settings returned, no more stressing. Hope it works for you.

APN Settings with T-Mobile

Hello Experts
Just received my brand new Xperia XZ Premium international Dual sim on Sunday. I've been with Sprint for twenty years but wanted this phone badly and stepped into a T-Mobile store today.
They inserted SIM card in slot one and proceeded to activate phone. Everything seems to be there under access point except the enable/disable is grayed out even though is says APN enabled.
I contacted seller through Amazon and they said to do a factory reset. I have four times. What am I doing wrong?? Does the SIM card be active before placing it in SIM tray??

Um... Where exactly do you see "enable/disable" under APN settings?
Under Access Point Names
You might have to activate the SIM first. Make sure you select "LTE preferred" and when you search for service providers it should automatically choose T Mobile, if not, manually select it. It should also populate the APN settings automatically, but you can enter them manually. Check here:

Sim Card Working
Yes that was it. The Sim card must be activated first. You would have thought the genius at T-Mobile would have known this. All is well thank you experts. One more thing I updated the phone with the new Oreo and now every time I DL an app from The Play Store it crashes with message com.android. phone has stopped. Then it asks to close the app and takes me out and I have to finger print my way back in. The apps are downloading but this is getting tiresome. I've already factory reset twice so please don't ask me to do that again lol! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I have the International dual Sim model 8142

You may want to get the Apn automatically then change the apn type to blank (don't fill in) and the apn protocol to ipv4/ipv6. I had an issue with hotspot until I changed those. The automatic update isn't accurate.
Can anyone assist? I have the international dual sim xperia xz premium. I had been set up an working fine on the T-Mobile network. Fingerprint scanner was working. Everything was working fine. Then problems arose. The phone starting having horrendous signal issues. When you made and received phone calls, you could not hear the other person well at all (to the point people would hang up in frustration). No matter who I call this was happening. I thought it might be a sim issue. I put that same sim in a nexus 6p, and had no problems. I tried factory reset a couple times on the xperia and nothing has helped. Another thing i noted, is there is nothing under APN settings. I alerted T-Mobile of this and they put the settings in, but they dont seem to stick (save). At this point my xperia is an xpensive paper weight. Can anyone guide me in the correct direction. Really in need of help. Everyone has been hounding me to jump to iphone because of this. Not giving up yet.

Mi Mix 2S on Visible (Verizon MVNO)

Has anyone managed to get this phone successfully working on the Visible network? It works on Verizon, so there should be no technical reason why it won't work on Visible as they are literally owned by Verizon. I activated my wife's iPhone SE and it works great for her. Stuck that active SIM in my phone and couldn't get it working for the life of me. I found the APNs to add, but I could never get the phone to let me add them.
If anyone has any tips I would greatly appreciate it!
What's the issue with the phone not letting you add the APN? Do you get any error messages or something?

I'm not sure what the issue is, when I put the Visible SIM in the phone and then view the APNs under the SIM card settings, I try to add one and the only option that isn't greyed out is the "APN" box. I can't enter anything in any of the other fields.

This seems to be a stupid google/verizon issue. Anyway, try this:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/pi...llular-apn-t3697425/post75157321#post75157321
I am not sure if it will work on android 9/10/MIUI, it should. If it doesn't work, let me know and we can take it from there.

So I ended up finding a user who'd created an app in order to manually add APNs to MIUI devices. That allowed me to manually add the APNs I needed to my phone. But even after installing the Visible app and signing in, then rebooting several times, even going into the phone information screen and trying to force provisioning and manually enable VoLTE I had no luck. For some reason this carrier just doesn't seem to be compatible with this device which is a real bummer.

Can incorrect firmware stop the SIM card from working?

I have a Samsung Galaxy A5 2017 SM-A520W, which I recently bootlooped and had to reinstall the firmware using Odin. However, when I restored my nandroid backup, the SIM card refuses to be recognized. It works in my other phone however (which I temporarily switched it while I fixed the samsung). So I tried resetting network settings, clearing the cache and other suggestions, until I finally decided to just factory reset the rom and see if it recognizes it from a clean OS, and it didn't. I can't see any reason why the hardware would be broken, since all I did was take the SIM card out and put it back in.
So then I thought about the firmware. I got it from here, which has a ton of different product codes for different carriers and countries. I'm in Canada on the Fido network, so that's what I chose (FMC). But Fido is owned by Rogers, which is a different product code (RWC)... So I'm wondering if choosing the wrong firmware will actually prevent the SIM card from being recognized? I can't understand why it's not recognizing it. >.<
Any ideas?
Thanks!
Have you checked the APN name and settings?
Hmm, I'm not sure I understand, can you explain further?

I mean the settings for the carrier like mmsproxy and ipv4, etc...
It's a longshot but it's in settings and network settings - mobile data.
I do not know exact english words used... Accesspointname if directly translated.
Describe more about phone behaviour.
Do you get same notifications as when no sim in phone?
