The old TWRP 3.1.1 image made by @eagleeyetom no longer works after I upgraded to Oreo. So I put in sometime and figured out how to fix that myself. Turns out it's easier than I thought!
Note I have only tested this with OmniRom 8.1, YMMV with a different android version.
Thanks the mods for moving this thread here.

@oshmoun First time I tried it, it didn't work either. It boots, but it can't show anything on the screen. The screen will show the Sony logo. But if I touch the screen, the phone will vibrate.

Wikipedia article states "[Samsung Galaxy J1] has a CPU of Dual-Core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A7, a GPU of Mali-400, and an SOC of Exynos 3457 and Spreadtrum." Exynos 3457 VS 3475. Has someone made a typo?
Is there a list of all the different J1 variants somewhere?
Can you list all variants supported by this ROM?
I have two Samsung phones, a SM-J100Y and a SM-J120ZN. I flashed the latter using:
RT @xdadevelopers Post: jss2017n j120F Custom Rom (update) https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/development/custom-j12016-j120f-android-5-1-1-t3493590/post70978622
I learned that not all characters in the model number need to match. The J120F custom ROM worked in my J120ZN.
Can I use the ROM in this thread with those two devices?

It should be work on J1 (2016) Exynos 3475 variants (except J120W). If the J120F custom rom works on your variant, you can use this recovery.

Thank you for your reply.
I can't add it to twrp.me because it is an unofficial build.
Question, does this require root? I've been battling with TWRP, or any other custom recovery for that matter. As we speak i'm about to attempt this, but I figure i should ask in case this doesn't work. Also does the bootloader need to be unlocked? I CAN root the device, as in I have all the files ready, but currently its not rooted for stability. I also have the unlock code for bootloader but It doesnt seem to be working even though it says unlock request successful.
Edit - "Secure check fail : (recovery)" Regardless of root or not, regardless of freshly wiped device, this variant of TWRP, as well as other run into the same issue. I am correct in assuming its the bootloader yes? Also I get the same error "Secure check fail : (boot)" when trying to flash Magisk patched boot image. Which I assume is bootloader as well. My question being, is why does my unlock code sent to me from samsung seem to not work even though it says it does. Fastboot isnt an option for the device If my understanding is correct to. Am i Missing something? Should I make my own thread?

If you visited the Telegram group and flashed the AIO with Odin, you should already have TWRP and be unencrypted. At that point, flash any recovery you want. They don't/won't encrypt anything, that's stock stuff that forces that until you flash the AIO

I did, and now the rdx is doing its job.
I flashed TWRP and Magisk with a tiny mistake as I flashed multi disabler before the AVB disabler.

Load TWRP, go to the wipe tab format data, type in yes and then the rom you flashed should hopefully boot
I just formatted the data and flashed thru TWRP, but it failed.

TeamWin Recovery Project.
TWRP official.
Developed by Chinese
The others are unofficial.
Just want to report that v6.3 always gives error 1 no matter what I do (including remove the lockscreen passwords). I flashed V6.2 without lockscreen password and it went through successfully.
@mahpoaht is correct - v6.3 can't mount /system, so installing a zip will fail. v6.2 is working great.
Sorry for dumb question but which version to download? A11, A12 or A13?

Thanks for entertaining my dumb questions. So when I read the Xiaomi.eu thread, it says that Android 12 devices don't have TWRP and therefore require the fastboot install method. Does this thread mean that I can use the ROM version for first install?
