I had similar issue with Gionee E6 but I found imei file in the phone and recreate IMEI number.
In Moto G I can't find imei file so don't know hot to fix this.
Please let me know how to recover IMEI number.
I hope that someone know how to do it.
Many thanks

I've never heard of this before and it seems extreme that you could lose IMEI number just by flashing a custom ROM. What method did you use?
I would have assumed fastboot flashing stock firmware should solve this.

Hi Sorry for late reply but I lost internet connection on Saturday morning.
When I have been doing some stuff in CWM recovery, had system and data partition mounted.
Then done rm -R * in root dir.
At this point I thought that my current dir is tmp.
After this I lost wifi and IMEI.
I manage to sort out wifi but not IMEI code.
Do you know how to fix this?
Since that I have been re-flashing stock rom and CWM rom but none of them help.
Chris
anyone can help to recover IMEI ?
Thanks
Changing/manually setting the IMEI is illegal afaik. And afaik assisting someone with that is also forbidden here on xda. We used to have a similar problem on the phone I came from, and there was a app which let you backup/restore your IMEI. You need to have a backup in order to restore it so this won't really help you...
This is what I'm talking about: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1591997
Edit.: There actually seems to be a way to manually set it but I'm not sure if it is device-specific.
Sent from my XT1032 using xda app-developers app
You can find your Imei on the back of the phone.
If you google android 4.4 set imei you should find something from technostall which might help you
Good luck
Yes, it's on the battery.

I haven't.
I tried to sole this issues re-flashing with different roms, but after several operations it bricked.
It's totally dead, not charging, in linux I can't see device connected, so i think that is dead.
I bought new one.
Good luck with this problem.

I solved the problem, place to charge the phone, let him take some of the load and flash the original ROM, after that flash CM11, and run perfectmente, I think at first it was because I had done without the SIM, the second time you make with the SIM sunset ...

Yes It Does for most of the devices given you should know the proper method.
Mtk is different. It's not the same thing.
Any news?
Also I think the problem is that the imei is on the phone just not on the OS? (obviously, but...)
Maybe when we all reflashed to the original stock (and countless other stocks) they just didn't have the proper folder to access in order to identify what imei they're assigned?
Because every single time I've tried to manually rewrite the imei to it all the methods I've used are futile. Even the ones specially tailored to the Moto G's hardware SnapDragon - Qualcomm...
restore IMEI by Motorola service?
Same problem for me. I am really interested in some experience about restoring IMEI.
Motorola support phorum owner replied that Motorola service can recover IMEI (not covered by any kind of warranty of course).
I have tried to reflash factory ROM with and without inserted SIM card, but unfortunately no difference.
I have seen looking for solution, that for some people Android system sees IMEI=0, but the IME is still untouched using fastboot mode and "fastboot getvar" CLI command
For me it's empty using the "getvar" command as well.
The official service center in Germany told me that they mustn't repair selfmade imei problems :S
Lost IMEI
You could all try this new method claimed to be working but as I have not lost my IMEI I can't say, please report back if it works for you?

There are already a lot of threads discussing that topic! Go & search them. If it doesn't help you have to get it repaired by Google/LG.

Unfortunately In my country there is no google/lg service centre.
Tampering with the imei is illegal
There is a software solution at http://android.stackexchange.com/questions/85807/nexus-5-imei-0-how-to-restore-imei
No need in repair shops

explain what you were doing and how you lost you're IMEI. Like people said it's very illegal and also it's extremely hard to remove a IMEI so unless you backed your EFS up. you're out of luck. Next to read the rules and guide's before messing around with your phone. Everyone tells you too make backups before trying their ROMs
Hi guys!
Yesterday my firmware update went terribly wrong and now I have a device that states that imei and baseband are unknown, so I my both sim-cards don't work.
I've tried several types of IMEI restoration, but none of them worked.
Unfortunately I don't have any backup for nvram. So, my guess is that there is a problem with EFS partition on the phone.
In QPST NV RF Manager I see my real IMEI from the box, so I guess it is still present, but my baseband doesn't work. Can you please suggest any help on recovering the baseband? Or if it is possible share with me modem backup or nvram backup without IMEI (I've seen on this forum that one guy with Samsung S3 had a kind of the same problem and he was given a working nvram backup without IMEI (IMEI was 0/00)) I can write my IMEI then, if baseband works again. Will appreciate any help.
Send it back. Only the oem is legally able to mess with the IMEI.

Well... I have managed to make it work again and my original IMEI is back. The only thing I had to do is to restore a working NVRAM backup (from another device) via QPST. So, it wasn't that hard. Much simpler than sending it back to China.

If you restored the file from another device then it won't have the right IMEI.

It HAS right IMEI, I checked it with the original box. No need to put up an argument about it. Both devices (mine and the one which was backupped and restored from) are working fine, bot have ORIGINAL IMEI numbers and no errors considering networks or MI accounts. So, actually I have no idea what you are trying to tell me.

I'm not making an argument. I'm trying to figure out how a number which is supposed to be hard coded into the file is then restored by restoring the files from a different device.
As these devices are not sold in the states learning as much as possible is a good thing.
Glad you got it working.

Okay, sorry. I will try to make it a bit clearer=) This device is not sold in Russia either (officially at least), so the only way to get it is to buy from aliexpress or ebay or anything else. In that case the buyer doesn't get any guarantee or official support. So if the device is broken and can't be restored it turns into a garbage. I believe that in the US the situation with that kind of devices is almost the same.
Now, if You are not familiar with QPST it is a software package for qualcomm based devices which can make backup/restore of some non-firmware software from the device (like IMEI, ESN, Baseband, LTE Channels etc). As for IMEI number, basically, as You've said it is hard coded into device so it is pretty hard to get it changed or fully deleted. Here we come to my case of unknown Baseband and IMEI. Though via phone settings I could see: "Unknown", my IMEI didn't change and was stored in the device. The "error" or smth like that happened after the factory reset and my guess is that the file structure of NVRAM was changed. So, backup of NVRAM taken from the working device didn't actually have IMEI or ESN in it, but it has the right file structure without any errors. That is what happened, the file structure was restored without changing any factory numbers.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask

It is almost the same with a few exceptions. One being that their devices are banned from all people that work for the government, sometimes they get stopped at customs due to copyright issues and with the latest news about them coming loaded with malware, most won't buy them.
That makes sense in a way. Not sure why a factory reset would mess up that part of the device as it shouldn't touch it.
Thanks for the info.

Hi! Have you tried flashing China developer rom with Miflash?
Second option: Connect to your PC and run QPST according to one of the manuals (in order for your phone to show up as a COM), run RF NV Manager and look up your line 550 NV_IMEI if it is filled with numbers that are the same as on your box (check HEX above them and numbers should resemble yours from box but written in opposite direction, eg: on the box it is XXXX69XXXXX in the QPST it will be 96). So, if your IMEI is at its place than all you need is a working device from someone to make a backup. Backup must be made in newer versions of QPST in *.xqcn format and than restored to your phone with checked box "allow ESN mismatch"

Hi guys,
I have flashed my phone with H990N while my phone is H990DS, what happened is I lost IMEI numbers.
Now I can see IMEIs as Zeros.
I have been searching for a way to return them back but without success. I have the numbers written behind the battery, but don't know how to put them on the firmware.
I tried even dumping my wife mobile firmware and flash it to my phone, didn't work.
The best solution so far it to write only one IMEI through crcwizard test.
Appreciate your kind support.
Best regards...
I highly doubt flashing the H990N firmware corrupted your IMEI numbers (I have cross-flashed H990N & H990DS on my v20 numerous times).
You need to have valid backups of your MISC, PERSIST, MODEMST1 & MODEMST2 partitions which you need to reinstate.
If you don't you will need help elsewhere outside xda, because any discussion involving manually modifying IMEI is forbidden in this forum, even for legitimate reasons...

Hello!
I wanted to change my MIUI version from global to eu, so I installed TWRP and flashed the rom. The problem is that somehow while doing this it wiped the IMEI, and wifi/bluetooth mac address. (so it doesn't see sim cards, and wifi networks)
Is there any way to restore the factory IMEI + the mac addresses? (I have them written down, and on the box)
And how to make sure that I don't wipe these things again?

Seems so. Don't know if it can even be restored or not if you have backup.
And if I haven't backed it up, is there a way to download it? Or is there any other way? Or is my phone broken?
