Hi,
Had anyone noticed that A22 5G (EU version) fast charging works only (i.e. >2000mAh) when the screen is off?
I'm using AccuBattery to check charging current, time, etc. and surprisingly it shows that the charging current falls back to max. 800mAh when the screen is turned on! Never seen such phenomena on any previous Samsung phone - had Note 10 light, A51, S8 previously...
This happens with its original, factory provided charger as well as other Samsung (or even other, quality) chargers, too...
Normal. The display must be off for fast charging to engage.
It's to protect the battery.
Thanks for the very quick reply. Still, it's strange for me - as I wrote, neither the very old S8 not the newer A51 didn't limit the current while the screen was on...

It's typical behavior on my Note 10+'s.
You can listen to Poweramp with bluetooth while fast charging but if the display comes on it will charge very slowly.
Only takes 10 or 15 minutes to get a partial 20-30% midrange charge, so do it when you take a break. Li's love frequent midrange power cycling in the 40-70% range, it extends their lifespan significantly.

One reasons that I am considering the Note PRO 12.2 is the possible faster charging speed. If I watch videos and/or browse the web non-stop while charging the device, will it run out of power? I read that for the 10.1 2014, consumption of electric power is faster than charging. Thanks.

The charge speed is faster than the uncharge speed on the wifi model. You might wanna take a look at the lte model though if charge time is important to you because that model has the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset. The Snapdragon 800 has QuickCharge 2.0 on board. Depending on the adapter it should charge very fast.
In case of buying, I will buy the LTE version. Thanks.

When I got mine yesterday (wifi) it was at 55%. I plugged it in and started to set everything up, basically restoring from my google account, syncing corp mail, etc. It was fully loaded down with tasks. After an hour or so the battery fluctuated between 54%-56% the whole time. It wasn't until I let it go to sleep that it finally started really charging.
I can't give you metrics because I haven't measured them yet, but it definitely charges faster than it drains, so if you have it plugged in you won't take it to zero even under heavy load.
I did notice something strange however, I first tried charging it with the charger of my Note 2 phone (5v, 2A) and it charged until 90%, then got stuck there. Wouldn't go past 90%.
I then used the charger that came with the Note (visually identical to the Note 2 one) and it progressed to 100%. The difference is that the new one is 5.3v/2A. As far as I can see, the thing charges pretty fast even with the huge battery, but I'm already used to waiting a bit because of the Note 2 (3100 or 3200 mAh).
Using the stock charger with 3.2a adapter it charges slowly even with the screen on. With the screen off it charges fast - the screen is the main power draw.

I got mine last Friday and I only charged once . Came with 40%, used it down to 17% then let it charge for like 3 or 4 hours. It's charging about the same speed as Note 10.1 (SLOWLY). It's nice but haven't had that much time to fool around with it since Friday. It's freaking expensive and that's the thing I keep thinking about 750 (32g) + 60 for a 64g Samsung Msd card. Now I got to find a case and the only ones I seen so far are the one with the BT keyboard for 100 and a Samsung case for 69.00. None of the other cases online are in stock yet.. I been trying to wait but im afraid I will drop it
It only seems slightly faster then my 10.1 (CY 11) on it but I know for video its much sharper screen.
It charges faster than the Nexus 10 provided it has bigger battery. It took around 4 hours to charge to 100% starting with 20% remaining battery. My Nexus 10 needed at least 6 hours to charge full in that situation. However, on the other side I used the device to watch a 1080p video (around 90 minutes) with WiFi on and it reduced from 55% to around 25% which is I think too much.
My batt did good the first day now it seems like it is draining very fast. I am looking into what is making it do this. I can't wait for CWM and custom Roms
I went from a OG Pixel XL, to a Note 8, and now a Note 9. I got a charger that supported fast charging for the Pixel, and then just kept using the same one when I got my Note8. Seemed to work well enough. But, I have noticed with my Note 9 that that charger doesn't seem to keep up when I have the GPS up and running and screen brightness up. I am regularly getting the "slow charging" warning.
So, looking for the fastest in-car option. I have ordered the Samsung OEM charger: https://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/m...e-micro-usb-and-type-c-cable--ep-ln920bbegus/
- is that the best option, given Samsung's proprietary fast-charging technology? Or, can I use any Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 accessories? Or is there a better option than those two?
Sounds like it is thermal throttling because GPS and screen on combined with charging make the temperature of phone escalate. It is probably a preventative to not damage your phone.
No it's not thermal throttling. I can confirm this. My Pixel XL used to charge rapidly but the same charger doesn't charge my Note9 even close to as fast. 1000mah max. I have the Exynos variant. Not sure what car charger I need since I obviously don't have Qualcomm Quickcharge
Some phones have better thermal control of many things. Some are too aggressive and some not aggressive enough. I can't speak for your problem, but some OEMs have slowed down charging while in use recently. I have not used Samsung as a daily driver for 2 years and they let fast charging go full blast until crash or often reboot. Using your display, probably with Max auto brightness, GPS and expecting fast charging is an unrealistic concern. You want it to slow charge. Note4 didn't have the best thermal management system. I have 2 note4s, one which is white, that I use as a dash cam exclusively. I intentionally have a slow charger on it and it is recording video with screen off mostly. Being higher in my windshield it gets hotter quicker of course but I try to help mitigate that with slow charging. During Summer it reboots once in a while because too hot and battery stays about even, this rarely happening during other seasons unless I stay in one spot and forget to turn off. If I use the screen, record and use GPS even with a fast charger it loses. I would be less concerned about it because you're expecting something unrealistic, possibly even dangerous and obviously affecting the longevity of your battery. I only have 2 batteries left for my note4s. The last battery in dashcam bulged significantly and thankfully did not explode. Do you want your expensive new toy to bulge? It would be terrible to wonder why your phone feels funny or looks funny and then the back cracks. That is how I noticed the last battery bulging. I actually used it and something just didn't feel right so I checked battery.
Paying $1400USD for mine after tax and a 1st party case I am babying the hell out of this battery to get a damn good 2 years use out it. I am getting well over 10h SOT and trying to use 2 days off one charge, topping a little bit during work the second day if I don't go straight home. No heavy 3d games, just light games. Training auto brightness to be less aggressive in dimmer conditions and not too bright in bright conditions. If I wake up in middle of night I take off my Nokia wireless charger. Little things add up. To each his own.
did you unplug the cable and turn it around and plug in? i get that slow charging sometime, i just unplug it, turn it around and plug in, then it shows fast charging
FYI, From Samsung:
If the fast charging feature is not activated, on the Home screen, tap Apps → Settings → Device maintenance → Battery →
More option → Advanced settings → Activate Fast cable charging option.

As we all know, the charger xiaomi provided in the box does not support fast charging, although it is quite good. For fast charging we have to use different adapters or powerbanks that support it.
Yesterday when I was using my normal charger, it suddenly showed quick charge and two lightning symbols in the top right corner, which indicates fast charging, that I usually get when using my mi powerbank.
First I thought it was a software flaw but sure enough, my phone was charging at a much faster rate and was heating up similar to when I charge using powerbank.
Unfortunately when I removed the charger and reinserted it, the phone charges at it's normal rate, and I've been unsuccessfully trying to repeat it but it's not happening.
My device is completely unmodified, stock unrooted rom and bootloader locked.
I think this means that the normal adapter might be capable of fast charging but xiaomi has disabled it, something worth looking into.
Also I know the phone charges quite fast below 50%, I saw this effect while phone was at 69% and reached 72% in barely 3 minutes or something.
Unfortunately I did not have the presence of mind to take photos as proof.
first of all if you are using charger which comes in box with the phone, its not a fast charger its only 5V2A.
2nd it can't charge at pace compared to fast chargers as it can only provide 2A at max or it may be faulty
3rd it may be software bug just showing quick charge
and in the end you said it charged from 69 to 72 in 3 min. i can say its not fast charging because my charger 5V2A which came in box also charges at same speed you are saying. it normally takes around 1 min for 1% increase but depends on various factors like load being used currently by the phone.
sometimes when data is off or battery saver os on it charges more quickly as consumption is also less so it charges fast.

It was 2% in one minute, I've attached a ss from telegram group of violet where I reported this for proof. My data and wifi were on, and I've enabled always switch on data for faster switching in developer settings.
Even now it's currently happening, but the rate is very slow, I think it's probably a software bug like you say, any idea why this is happening?
Edit 1: That Telegram ss is from the day where I first created this thread, not today.

i know the time is different but why didn't it increased in screenshots you uploaded the time already changed in both of them but battery remains same 69%. its showing fast charging but its not working I guess
plus maybe your battery health is not good.
I'm on the latest .151 build and I think steady charging does not work for me.
Maybe I didn't get the functionality or I misunderstood something but it doesn't matter what charging mode I use, it always charges incredible fast unless I use my old charger.
When I plug my device and go to the steady/ultra steady settings it claims it would take as long as a 18 watt charger and would take ~1h until it's full. However it mostly only takes around 35 minutes (I don't go from 0% to 100%). When I use my old (Oneplus 5 or Nexus 5) charger it takes around 1.5h.
Is there a way to tell if I load the phone via hypercharge or steady charge? Forum mods mentioned both share the same animation and no matter if you use hyper or steady it's always listed as hyper charge in the lock screen.
As soon as I plug my device all notifications appear claiming it would be ultra steady and scheduled.
So my questions
- how can I tell if it's working?
- does it work for you?
- would be using my old charger a better alternative?
- how long takes ultra steady for you?
Things I've already tried
- I did a factory reset
- cleared all caches of Powermaster app
- restarted the phone multiple times
I am on .151 as well, and use the steady charging feature without issue. I typically plug it in around 30% give or take a little bit, and let it charge to 80% with the limiter. Usually takes 25-30 mins to complete this. I was skeptical at first as to whether or not it was working as intended, but I have a USB gauge which verified it was indeed working. I will run it again the next time I charge to give you the exact information, but as I recall it was approximately 16.9w at about 2 amps.
Thank you very much for your answer. So you use steady - not ultra steady?
Because my experience is nearly the same I plug it at ~25/30% until 80% and ~55% in ~30 minutes seems pretty damn fast for a 6000mAh battery.
Especially when I look at the settings when I charge my phone it shows ultra steady === 18w charger but when I really use my old 18w charger it takes waaaaaay longer. That's why I was so confused.
I would be really really glad if you could help me understand if it works as it should or not. I expected a charging time of 1.5h or so to be honest

I do use the ultra steady charging option. I popped it on for a minute to get the read out. I am going to kill the phone sometime this weekend and measure capacity with the device and see what it says.
Ignore the other readings on there for now as I didn't reset them before taking that pic.
I see, thank you very much.
So it indeed charges (compared to other/older phones) extremely fast even on ultra steady - at least in my opinion.
Why are you going to kill the phone O.O?
You don't like it?

I meant I'm going to let the battery die completely then use the USB tester to confirm battery capacity.
I really like the phone and plan on keeping it barring any issues
So I let the phone die and did a full charge from 0%-100%. I did it with the phone turned on. It appears to be charging at the claimed 18w the whole time. Next time I do it I will do it with the phone off. The mah didn't get captured properly for sure though.
For the first 3% it did charge at a speedy rate, which I did include a screen shot of. Once I turned the phone on that rate was never seen again.
For one week using this phone daily, i noticed that charging is very slow when I'm using it while charging. In AIDA64 it shows only 900mA charge rate and it seems to be locked on that value, no matter if it's during video playback, light gaming, or just simple web browsing.
When i leave it on standby with screen locked, then it starts to charge rapidly, showing around 3500mA charge rate on AIDA64. Then it drops down to 900mA again after using it a while.
Is this normal? Is this os related? Or is it hardware limitation to prevent damage?
Don't use and charge, it's skews the charging curve.

Is this miui thing? Since I've never experienced this issue in all my previous phones. All of them just charging normally or just slightly slower while in use, about around 1500mA at worst

I see it on my Samsung Note 10+'s.
You can listen to low current draw bt apps as long as the screen is off, it will charge normally.
