Hi ,
I am coming from Samsung Note 9 and first thing I noticed is that in samsung messages when I go to one of the contact there is no more direct dial in upper right corner.
Instead now I have to click on the contact name in upper left corner and only then it would show as a option to dial that contact.
Why would they get rid of direct dial? Any work around this?
I tried unistalling update but to no avail.
I don't want to use google messages- I got used to samsung app.
Any help would be appreciated.
If I click on the drop down of the person on the message I have the direct dial there.

That I know. And in order to dial you have to go through 2 steps instead of one.
Before dialer was right next to the contact name.
Now you have to press first on drop down menu which is wasted time.

Unfortunately, a major step backwards
The option to call is in Google/Samsung, the one that come preinstalled, messaging app

Vasu,
What ROM are you running?
I'm on 2.3.6.
When you activate the messaging app, the menu capacitive key on the left lower hand corner of the phone brings up the setttings.
Message center # is there.
Hi, I guess ROM is the android version if it is then i'm on 2.3.7
Thanks for your reply.

2.3.7 is MIUI?
I'm not sure if MIUI MMS app has been changed.
I would assume that the same settings would be there.
Do you have the option to open the menu settings when you activate messaging?
settings in mms at right lower corner
mms center # change upper mid screen
When I open the settings, I do not find the Message center option after "Manage SIM card messages".

hmmm, I'm not sure how to advise you on that one.
You seem to have a different mms.apk for miui.
you can use titanium backup and back up your original mms and try this one.
It is pulled from UCLB1 stock. I don't know if it will work on 2.3.7

heartbreaker2020in I've been in that predicament before, it happens every time I flash a new ROM (it's not ROM's fault, sometimes your SIM can't fill out all the blank spaces).
After a lot of reading about that issue I have figured out how solve it:
1) In you dialer dial *#*#4636#*#* (this will take you to an low level configuration/setup screen)
2) Choose "Phone Information"
3) Scroll down and you will see an blank field next to the "SMSC" word (this is the message center that you are looking for)
4) Once there, hit the button "Refresh"
5) Now hit the button that says "Update"
6) Hit your back button twice, and...
7) Done! You can send a receive text messages again.
This procedure grabs the info of your SIM that was lost during the flash/wipes/etc.
This is how I fix the "no text" issue every time I flash a new ROM.
I wish you luck.

Propmter,
Thanks for your reply.
I have tried what you have suggested, and updated the no in the field and updated it. But when I come out and try to send a text still the same issue, not able to send the text and says "Message not sent".
So I get back to the settings and its blank again.
Vasu.
Vasu,
No any number has appeared when you hit the "REFRESH" button?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using xda premium
For the first time some no has come when I refreshed. But later I updated it with the correct Message center no. and later on when I click refresh the same no appears but with some many zeros padded to the left...
Vasu.
Believe it or not that wierd number is what your phone needs... For example when I hit the refresh button y have a number like this 01080 when in my country the telephone numbers has this format: + 503 XXXX XXXX.
So the first time has not sense but when I use that number everything works fine.
I'm afraid that is the only help that I can provide to you. I wish you find a correct answer for your issue,
Best regards,
Prompter

Can anyone tell me a recommended Dialer that works fine with the Chacha keyboard?
I use the SuperOSR rom and the dialer coming with that ROM is really very awkward. First of al it does not do Smart Dialing, so I either have to search in the names or in the numbers - but not in both at the same time.
I tried other dialers but most of them are not made for keyboard phones. So which dialer to use and which options to choose? All in all the stock ROM dialer was not so bad.
Also unlike the chacha stock ROM when i start typing with 0/Sym I get the % but on the main screen it would be more useful if the phone just opens a dialer and starts dialing.
DW contacts and phone.... it has smart dialing and with some setting changes you can disable on screen dialer too.

This is the standard Android behaviour. What happens on HTC Sense ROMs is something that HTC modified for their phones/applications.
But I can see this behaviour on SuperOSR on my side:
Start typing a number.
A "Dial number" appears below.
It also works with names.
As for the wrong key mappings, check the SuperOSR/CM keymappings thread.

But it is hard to find the correct options. When typing "ROM" for some reason DW will display search results with E,O,M and D but no R. Why??

No really here.
When I start typing on the home screen I get into the Google Search wich will display letters only (but search in the contacts).
When I start typing with a zero I'll get the symbols of the symbol screen. Since all Numbers you start from a cell phone start with a zero it would also be finde if you end up in a Dial-Window then.

Give it a shot with Fn+0. See if that helps. That should open up Google Search but at the same time show a "Dial xxxx" beneath it." like in the screenshot attached.

Thanks I now noticed the difference:
You have to press the FN-Key to get that option. But this requires that you have to use your phone with two hands which is not very handy in most situations.
So I'l like to type without the FN-Key, so e.g. if I type "FR" the phone should suggest to either call "Franz" or Dial "63" for example.
Also the sym-key could jump into a dialer window from the homescreen since it does not make sense to enter a "%" there.
The stock call log on my OnePlus is **completely** terrible, useless trash..
It seems like anywhere I press on an entry in the log, it results in a call instantly being placed to that number. Rather than being given options like "add to contacts" or "view number," etcetera.
Additionally, the call log shows inaccurate, useless information about when the call took place (stuff like, 1 hour ago, or 3 days ago.) Utterly worthless.
Whether this is accomplished through a paid Play Store app, or if there's some way that I can reskin or change settings to make it work the way it should, I don't care. I need a resolution, I'm ready to chuck this thing into the ocean! So infuriating.
Phone is rooted, 64gb model, 11.0-XNPH44S
Thanks in advance!

Dude. You just don't know how to use it. From the main phone app screen press the small clock icon in the bottom left of the screen to access the full call log.

From the call log screen press the square contact icon on the left side of the phone number, this will open a pop-up, from there you can add the contact.
Additionally, the call log shows inaccurate, useless information about when the call took place (stuff like, 1 hour ago, or 3 days ago.) Utterly worthless.

From the call log screen just hit the small clock icon to the right of the phone number and another screen will open showing the exact date/time of the call, whether it was incoming or outbound, and exactly how long it lasted.
Whether this is accomplished through a paid Play Store app, or if there's some way that I can reskin or change settings to make it work the way it should, I don't care. I need a resolution, I'm ready to chuck this thing into the ocean! So infuriating.

Maybe take the time to learn how to use a device properly before badmouthing it and going to throw it away.

So when you text someone, let's say their name is Dan, a circle with the letter D will appear next to the message they sent you. If you want, you can set a picture and the pic will take the place of the circled letter.
My GF just got the pixel and not only does the circle and letter appear next to the person's message, but it also appears next to her messages as well.
On MY phone, I see the circle and letter for the other person, but not for myself. Is there a way I can enable that for myself and set a picture for myself as well?
I hope this makes sense. If not, I can try and post some pics of this phenomenon.

Know exactly what you're talking about. And if you're using the Verizon Messages+ app, there's no changing it. Other messaging apps let you have avatars for both the sender and the recipient, or none for both.
Neither my phone or my GFs phone are Verizon, but her phone has the circled letter by her name and mine doesn't. She just got the same phone yesterday (used), did a factory reset and started from scratch. Not sure what's different about her phone from mine

What messaging app are you using? You do not have to be on Verizon to use the Messages+ all. So, what app do you use, and what does she use?

I've never seen an avatar for my messages other than in hangouts.
Do you have multiple entries in Contacts for yourself? I wonder if the default entry "Me" causes confusions as to which avatar to display.

I don't have any entries for myself in contacts. I actually tried to add myself, but it still didn't display an avatar next to my messages
This always bugged me too. i noticed if i sign-in to google + it updates my picture for the "me" contact and uses my pic for messenger as well.
So I just factory reset my phone, and when it initially restarted, messenger was showing a circle with my initial by my messages. Then an update from the play store for messenger installed, and now that circle is gone.
Hi...
I finally got the phone 3 days ago, but noticed that when i get incoming calls i can't use the phone untill the call ends or untill i answer it, what stopping me from playing / writing messages of even use Facebook app untill: 1. I answer the call. 2. I ignore the call, and wait for the other person to hang up.
I had other phones that i could just press the "Home" button and continue with my things.
Is there any solution for that?

Ahh yeah you need a specific one. This works well

grab version 17 or newer
Great thanks
But the problem is that i think i have to root the phone, because even after installing the latest version and allowing permissions to the Dialer app i still get the calls from the default HTC original dialer.. Im using the last version (17)

you need to go into app settings and make google dialer the default phone app
Iv'e put the dialer as default everywhere also in the app category, it still only shows the calling icon on top of the screen, also won't show any contacts names when incoming calls..
Did you got this to work in your phone perfectly?
Aren't there any other apps that can be used instead?

Yes it works perfectly.
Set as default, enable all permissions for it and it will work fine. Plenty of us are using it without any issue. What do you mean by "only shows calling icon on top of the screen". That sounds like the google dialer which is what it is supposed to do and not take up the entire screen.
I don't know, it just wont work properly on my device, i did all what you said above and restarted the device and still.. i only get the icon on the notification bar at the top of the screen when call enters.
I gave up and downloaded "Drupe" - wonderfull app really does the job well and also looks great (cost me about 4$ - worth it), better than the default HTC's app.
Thanks for the help!
You have to go into setting>application>Phone>application>Phone application, select the app you installed, then you may see the different calling screen when you call someone / receive a call. (not a football fan so installed normal v17)
