Looking for an affordable pixel 4a (4G) replacement display - Google Pixel 4a Questions & Answers

So, I have recently bought a used (and abused looks like) Pixel 4a and the display on that phone is pretty much dead, but the rest of the phone is okay.
Ideally, I'd like to repair and use it, so I need a replacement display.
In the past I've had good luck with Ali-express displays that have some minor defects, like a dead pixel or two but it doesn't seem like those exist for this model, or at least not yet.
I'd love to save a few if I can find a display of lesser quality or a used one so does anyone have any suggestions?
Also, warranty repair is not really an option as I live in a country where Google doesn't officially sell pixels. I had this one imported from the UK and quite frankly I have no idea of the history of it.

Thanks for the reply. I've considered ifixit, especially in light of recent announcements but unfortunately they don't have these from their EU store and they don't ship outside of the USA. I've thought about shipping by proxy but at that point it'll be more expensive than ordering a brand new display from China.

Lack of OLED is a disappointment

LG is falling behind in the smartphone display world. My Note7 is the best phone display I have ever had, by far, and that is no exaggeration. Yet here we are with another flagship release by LG who are using dated technology on the most important component of a phone - the display. IPS contrast sucks. Contrast is a huge deciding factor in image quality - perhaps the most important. Additionally, LCDs and IPS in particular have substantial pixel response motion blur over AMOLED. I HAD to return my HTC 10 because I couldn't stand using the display with how muddy it looked compared to the AMOLED on my 6P, even though HTC touted their display as having a fast response rate. Simple actions like pulling down the notification shade produced easily noticeable differences between the devices. LG is well aware of how great OLED is - they invest billions in their OLED TV division. I have spent $7,000 this year between their 65" and 55" OLED TVs, and they are mind-blowing. LG needs to either purchase Samsung display panels, or invest in their seriously lacking mobile division, because they're going to end up like HTC sooner or later at this rate.
I hope this IPS panel is at least an improvement. The contrast is likely no better than 2000:1, which is great for an IPS, but poor overall. I'm not stoked about the always-on-display in the ticker area either. It is far less useful than the G5's or Note7's - another step backwards. And at night, LCD always-on-displays also look like crap with tons of halo/light bleed. The lack of detailed performance specs at the launch event was disappointing. Using the SD 820 was a poor choice, and you could have easily thrown 6GB of RAM in there. And launching in a few weeks is idiotic as well. They could have capitalized on the Note7's recall and gotten their device out before the iPhone 7 if they wanted to. We'll be lucky to have it by October. There better be a decent promotion, because I am on the fence about buying this phone with its poor display, less than stellar battery (even if replaceable), lack of water resistance, and ugly UI. I must give credit where it is due, and that is the audio and camera capabilities are out of this world (except for the 5 MP front camera - WHY) - and I appreciate them destroying the competition in those VERY important areas., and keeping a removable battery with a premium and durable design. But this phone could have been the best of 2016 if they wanted it to be. This phone hardly has any advantage over the Axon 7 for far less cash.
In their defense, LG manufactures MANY flat panel TVs with excellent picture quality. I suspect their choices of phone screens are based upon energy consumption, cost effectiveness, and the plain ole theory that such a small size doesn't require an extravagantly engineered screen. Don't get me wrong, I love a super-amoled / OLED screen personally. When I compared the S7 vs my G5, I honestly was like....hmmmmmmmmmm, wish I had that screen though.. LOL
But from what I have read, the V20 screen is supposed to be far superior to that of the V10.
AMOLED has a major minus: screen burn, and the white turns muddy over time.
G Flex used to have AMOLED, but it turned out LG abandons it.

AMOLED doesn't burn in normal use conditions anymore - this isn't 2012. The white also does not turn "muddy" over time - whatever the hell that means. You're making stuff up. Sure, some panels have had white uniformity issues... but Samsung may be resolving that as my Note7 is literally perfect. There is no defense for LG here. They either were too cheap to invest in their mobile division's display panels, or they are behind in their mobile division... which is funny considering they make the best OLED TVs in the world. Basically the only OLED TVs.
I've had an OLED display with my Note 2, 3, and 4. I too had hoped that LG was going with OLED this time for the V20, since they do make OLED TVs, but instead looks like they are still using the same LCD that is on the V10. At least Samsung stepped up the OLED on the Note 7 to support HDR.
You're very unlikely to see any light bleed on a high quality IPS-screen. I've never seen light bleed on an iPhone for example, but I had really bad light bleed on my Nexus 5. I also have absolutely zero light bleed on my OnePlus One.

Can you please explain further?
Don't all amoled screens burn in regardless of use because of it's organic components?

I had a G4 and V10 both with terrible light bleed on a corner that I had to exchange. Also, IPS glow is a huge problem, and at night you don't get true blacks which is especially distracting with the second screen.

That isn't burn in. Burn in is permanent image retention and an actual ghost image always being on the display. You may be thinking of OLED wear over time, becoming less bright - but it takes a significant amount of time for this. Theoretically I suppose if you used an OLED display for several hundred thousand hours it could eventually get so dim that you wouldn't want to use it anymore. But you are never going to hit that amount of hours. You will have moved onto something else long before then.

My Galaxy S1 equivalent screen on my Samsung Epic was used 3 straight years as primary phone and didn't fade or burn-in.
I've read cliches' like this for years and mostly do not agree. The limitation I saw with using the older 2010 era Amoled screen was screen brightness in daylight. That's no longer an issue with newer Amoled panels since 2014 and always improving to the point Samsung Amoled panels exceed LCD panels in virtually every use category including brightness and efficiency.
Other users have experienced burn-in. My mother-in-law burned her S6 screen by charging phone and playing solitaire at same time. Not sure but I think fast charging was enabled. Heat combined with images that are continually displayed and not pixel shifted factor heavily with burn-in. So yes, it's possible but never happened to me. (Samsung does utilize pixel shift in the status bar to prevent burn-in. I'm unaware if pixel shift is used in third party applications like solitaire; her game used white cards on green background. Card images were retained and didn't respond to typical scrolling images to alleviate it.)
I don't use fast charging unless needed. Temperature can be bad on battery and display. I also try to avoid using my phone while in early stages of charging but my Note 4 does revert to slow charging when display is on.
IIRC, I read LG was transitioning to Amoled screens in late 2017. Apple is rumored to be switching to Amoled as well.
I've been known to squeeze 9 hours screen on time on my Note 4's stock 3220mah sized battery when mostly browsing on a single charge. Very much wanted the Note7 but locked bootloader kept me away before their battery became a headline exploding issue. Was also disappointed with edge only screen version and sealed battery. What an open for LG! I looked to LG to address shortcomings but lack of Amoled screen and locked bootloader prospect have me still looking and undecided for 2016 offerings thus far.
I may consider V20 if the bootloader was unlocked to allow TWRP and custom kernels. But I'd miss the Amoled screen. The battery door latch is cool though; I didn't want to lose removable battery feature and see little reason to trust Samsung's batteries to last 24 months without a letdown.

Yes, it is 2016 and burn in at OLED displays still occurs and will occur. No matter how it's called (supertrooper amoled etc). At my SG7E, I got burn in after 10 days - I used Waze 2 hours every day; brightness at 50% etc. I've been told thay would replace a display as it was in warranty, but I decided to get money back (14 days period) and I will never go for OLED again.
ISP was what has me interested in this device, despite swearing LG off. I do not like OLED, mostly for the burn in issue. Yes, the technology has improved but burn in still exists.
Regarding the screen, I do have one question. It's touted as having a 5.7 inch screen but isn't part of that the second screen? If you can't shut off the second screen and use that space for displaying what's on the main screen, then the device has a 5.5 inch screen, not 5.7.
Should be the main screen that is 5.7 inches. That's how the v10 is. With the second screen it's closer to 5.9"
Sent from my awesome T-Mobile LG V10!
That's be nice. A competitive price and I could be swayed back to LG, provided they offer an unlocked model and do so reasonabley quick.

The V10 an V20 really have one LCD. It is just partitioned into the main 5.7" display, and the top ticker display.
I'm glad that they decided on LCD instead of AMOLED. Despite what has been said in this thread, burn-in is still happening especially when on screen navigation buttons are used. That's why Samsung avoids them. Also uneven degradation happens fairly quick when the status bar is black, which is the case with many apps such as Chrome.
I for one am happy that LG using IPS instead of OLED because the majority of OLED screens flicker at 240hz, which causes eye problems I seem to have eye damage and cannot use OLED screens at all.
I wrote more info about this problem here
I have an amoled burn in in the top of my screen note 3 and 4
Technically it's brighter since the white isn't usually used, the rest of the screen lost a couple percent brightness
It's amoled ageing not burn in. I'm probably getting a v20 if it's rootable. Almost got a note 7 but can't stand no root, sealed battery and fires. I'll admit I'd rather have amoled but ips is ok. Kinda sucks on nexus 5, hope v20 is much better.

Non-full rgb amoled's are garbage. IPS is superior. Nothing to see here.

Likely VR performance

With a FHD screen and a PPI of 441, am I wrong in thinking that the VR experience of smaller Pixel phone will be pretty lack-lustre compare to the Samsung S7 which has a QHD screen with a PPI of 577?
It depends on what you mean by performance. If you're concerned with frame rates/animation smoothness, it is obviously better with fewer pixels as there are less of them to push around.
But if you're concerned with seeing pixels, QHD will seem less, well... pixelly. But trust me, you'll see pixels with either.
Curious if anyone else tried VR on a 1080p display coming from a 2k device? I have a 6P, but i miss the utility of a smaller device so opted for the 5" pixel, but the daydream experience was my only concern, as little as it may be since i doubt I'll be using it a whole lot.
This is what's stopping me from getting the Pixel over the XL(well, this and the difference in battery sizes).
I mean, on the S7, you can see the pixels and that's a QHD screen. If it's not much worse, then I might get the Pixel.

Ok, so I got a hold of HTC M8 (which is exact size of Pixel: 441 ppi) and LG G4 (close to XL: 538 vs. 534 ppi) and will test it on my $10 VR later today.

The difference is not huge... pixels are visible on both and you'll not be using it for hours and hours for VR. So makes more sense to buy a smaller phone if you prefer it. That way you'll have bigger benefit to your use case.
Its worse. 1440p isn't perfect, but its still much better. Tried an m9 vs my s7e.

I was debating between the Pixel and XL because of Daydream (I ordered when the headset was offered for free for preordering). I figured the XL would be better and was about to get it, but then I remembered how much I hate large phones (currently own the S5 which is 5.2 and am not too comfortable with the size, but 5" feels great) and i'll be using the phone regularly more than I will as a VR device, so I couldn't justify getting the XL just for an hour of VR or so every couple of days. I hope the picture quality won't be too bad and if I end up not liking it, then i'll just sell it. I mean, I got it for free so i'll at least make a profit off of it...if anything it'll cover the tax I paid for the Pixel plus some extra spending money, lol.

.....................you're going to test out high priced phones...on a cheap VR headset and make judgements based off of that. Try saying that statement out loud to yourself a few times and I think you'll see how ridiculous it is, lol.
It's about build quality of the headset. You're going to notice a difference between a $10 headset and an $80 headset.

HTC U11+ or Google pixel 2?

Has anyone tried both the google pixel 2 and HTC U11+? What are your experiences and opinions? Which one performs better, in terms of overall performance and quality?
also, in terms of camera, if i will download the google hdr+ camera on the HTC u11+, will it be at par with the google pixel 2?
here in my country, In terms of price, HTC U11+ seems to be the more worthy phone. (HTC U11+ 128gb is just around $20 cheaper than the google pixel 2 64gb variant)
BUT i don't have much information about it and i am afraid that i might regret not getting the pixel 2 instead.
I am so confused on which one i should buy and i assume both of them seems to be a very great phone.
PS: if there are any similar post as this, please feel free to put it here. I can't seem to find any similar post/answers in the search bar.
Thanks in advance for your answers. cheers!

If I were you I would definetly go for HTC U11+, the phone looks great performs really good and then again from the price point of view (not that big of a deal though)
Just in case if you are planning to get a HTC U11+, get the silver one it looks amazing. I got one and its freaking amazing.
I just bought the transparant one and sold my Pixel 2 XL
I was hesitating at some point between the pixel 2 xl and htc u11+, and couldn’t see any big advantage over the u11+ other than the obvious camera and faster software updates.
I was able to handle the pixel 2 xl in Germany and the feel in the hand was kinda “meh”... when the u11+ feels quite premium. Obviously this is just a personal preference, but if you want to compare specs, the u11+ is indeed on top (mainly battery, ram and memory).

I have both the Pixel 2 XL and the U11+ in this moment.
I was originally going to buy the U11+, but I bought the Pixel 2 XL with a nice offer 2 weeks ago.
Yesterday I bought the U11+ because I'm not happy with the blue issue in the Pixel 2 XL screen.
Phones are similar in many ways, but for me having a blue tint is kind of annoying, so that's why I got the U11+ to test it and see if I like it.
I think that if you can overcome the blue tint issue, you can enjoy a nice phone with the Pixel 2 XL, but for me, each time I see the screen, it makes me sad.
I tried to RMA, but Google said they are not making replacements for blue tint, and I have only 2 more days to decide if I return it or I keep it. For the U11+ I have 2 weeks as probation period.
If you have any specific question, I would answer happily.
I switched pixel 2 XL to HTC and I don't regret it.
i needed a second play device and tested the Pixel 2XL for a few days. decided against the Pixel 2XL (even though it has all the features i was looking for) and tested the OP5T. i returned the OP5T after 2 days use because i was running short on space so i ordered the 4GB/64GB U11+ transparent black. i've had it for a week and it's a keeper for me; n0 storage space issues, great looks, premium feel and that battery! so far it's working well... my only gripe is not being able to use the Google Dialer; it installs fine, but the dialer component always FCs.
If you're still thinking about which Phone to get, this may help you out.
The Pixel 2XL is made by LG, but many suspect that the HTC U11+ was also candidate for being the Pixel 2XL however google decided to stick with LG.
There's some features that make the Pixel better and there's others that make the LG better.
Pro's XL2
- Camera software
- Software update
- Unlimited storage for photo's and videos in the cloud
- Stock ROM
Pro's U11+
- Good camera
- Large battery
- Edge sense
- IP68 water proof
Cons XL2
- Back material will change when put in pockets of denim jeans (overtime)
- blue screen
- burn ins
Cons U11+
- portrait mode
- HTC support (not always the fastest)
- Screen isn't as bright

How did you manager to install the Google Dialer ?, but it doesn't work ? Do you have the simgle SIM version of U11+ ?
I have the Dual SIM version and I can't even install the G Dialer, it gives an error in the installation screen.
I think I read somewhere that the G Dialer is incompatible with all Dual SIM phones, because Google never had a dual SIM one.

I will like to add a couple more:
Cons XL2
- Super slow charge
- Random Bluetooth issues
- Slow fingerprint scanner
- Random mail problems
- Mediocre signal
Pro's U11+
- Really nice audio
- Super nice speakers
- A lot of accessories included
About the screen of the U11+, is true that is not bright as many other flagships, but for me is not a problem because I don't like to have a super lamp in front of my eyes; I usually stick with medium brightness always, even on TV and monitor. With the Pixel 2 XL I had the screen at 35% with adaptive brightness and with the U11+ I have it at 50%. I tested yesterday in direct sunlight and I didn't have any issue looking at the screen.
I made some other tests, and overall, the 100% brightness of the U11+ is like ~80% brightness of the Pixel 2 Xl; I think this shouldn't be an issue because the U11+ screen also has HDR10 support, so is more than enough for most people, with the exception if you like really bright displays.

Ohh i wasn't aware of these issues just yet, good thing i didn't decide to go for the pixel in the end as it also was a 400 euro increase compared to the U11+.
The slow charging speed, was an issue related to the maximum voltage output i believe. I was under the impression that that was fixed in an update.
The screen brightness will be an issue once summer starts again, when walking or watching something outdoors it'll be annoying.

If you're still thinking about which Phone to get, this may help you out.
The Pixel 2XL is made by LG, but many suspect that the HTC U11+ was also candidate for being the Pixel 2XL however google decided to stick with LG.
There's some features that make the Pixel better and there's others that make the LG better.
Pro's XL2
- Camera software
- Software update
- Unlimited storage for photo's and videos in the cloud
- Stock ROM
Pro's U11+
- Good camera
- Large battery
- Edge sense
- IP68 water proof
Cons XL2
- Back material will change when put in pockets of denim jeans (overtime)
- blue screen
- burn ins
Cons U11+
- portrait mode
- HTC support (not always the fastest)
- Screen isn't as bright

yes. for me too, i usually don't maxed out on super bright screen displays. i usually just set it to 30-50% unless i use it in direct sunlight as it usually strains my eyes when the screen is always too bright.

I have been 3 days with the U11+ by now and overall I think is a lot better value for money, but also it depends on your needs and tastes, because the Pixel 2 XL was its own nice features (mostly useless, but still nice), like the songs listening feature, the AR stickers in the camera, the live wallpapers and other than maybe are appealing to you.
If the screen in the Pixel 2 Xl was as good as the one in the U11+, it would be an easier choice, but for that money and receiving sub-par quality screen, is kind of lame.
I put yesterday side by side the phones to compare the screen and I was amazed with U11+ screen. It has perfect calibration and smooth colors. The Pixel 2 XL, even with the blue tint, looked yellowish in white.
I'm quite happy with the phone overall, and I think is a really nice buy, but if your heart is with the Pixel, even with its flaws, go with the Pixel. The important is to be happy with any decision you make.

First, my dual sim u11+ is rooted so I flashed the Google framework.zip from another thread and the Google Dialer installed with no problem. The problem I have is with the dialer component; it will FC when I attempt to dial numbers. The in-call UI feature (appears after initiating a call) works just fine.
I'm not sure about the Google dialer not working with a dual SIM phone, I was able to install the Google dialer on the OnePlus 5T and it worked with no issue.
Sent from my Transparent Black U11+
I've had them both but kept the pixel 2 (the small one). My u11+ was on the October security patch until January 16, after which it was updated to the December patch and who knows for how many months it will stay at that version. I have the impression that HTC will soon forget about this phone so I decided to sell it.

I don't think so, and more over than Google and HTC are working really closely right now with the Pixel line and also sharing a lot of patents and other things. Maybe you won't have the monthly updates, but at least every 2-3 months and also HTC is known because it updates its phones at least 2 years.
Maybe I'm wrong, but only time will tell.

Indeed, time will tell. Don't get me wrong, the U11+ is a nice phone and a good value compared to a Pixel 2 XL. What bothered me most of all about the U11+ now I think about it, is how incredibly slippery the glass back is. To me the phone was an accident waiting to happen. It looks amazing, but I prefer a less slippery phone since I dislike using a case.
BTW from a performance perspective, after the January update I got the impression the U11+ was even smoother than before. I couldn't really tell a difference between it and my pixel 2, and I consider myself very sensitive to those differences.

Screen issue? (uneven brightness/darkness)

My OP6 have this uneven lighting on my screen. It is visible when you have a dark grey background, in a dark room, and the brightness is on 5%-10%. It's also visible when you open up chrome app and close all the tabs until you got nothing but a dark background and a + for new tabs. Is this normal? Or should I RMA it?

Here you go
I don't think that's normal at all. At least my OP6 doesn't have that. The brightness is even across the entire screen.
Normally the issue only have Huawei and the LG OLED Panels.
OnePlus 6 have an SAMSUNG Super AMOLED Display, and there is no issue with uneveness Display in low brightness.
Can anyone else confirm this if it's normal or not? Please try again and use this image i attached. The uneveness is quite visible with it.
Go in a dark room.
Full screen it (make sure there's no other bright elements are showing).
And lastly, set your brightness to about 10%.
Please tell me it's normal :/
*edit. Funny, can't seem to upload the pic.
Welp.

@aserate: I have the same issue. I tested it yesterday and saw some lines and uneveness.
Im happy, that I bought the OP6 from Amazon. Now I give the OP back and buy the Mi Mix 2S without AMOLED.
Only Samsung build AMOLED Display without uneveness and lines. I tested the screen from Mate 10 Pro, P20 Pro, Google Pixel 2 XL, LG V30, OP 5T,...
All of these smartphones had a problem with the OLED / AMOLED Displays.
Im wondering, that the user, who test the phone for YouTube or a mobile site, dont see the bad screen.
I bought the Mate 10 Pro 3 times ans the P20 Pro 2 times from different stores. All the devices had a bad screen.
I hate the UI from Samsung, that is why I only buy now smartphones without AMOLED, only IPS or Super LCD.
I don't have this issue. I checked 5 different OP6 units and all were ok. Only one had some slight uneven brightness, but not as visible as on your picture.
Appreciate your feedback. I guess i have to rma this since it's clearly an issue. Praying the replacement won't have this. Sad to know after watching linus' op factory tour with all that quality checking and stuff, common issue such as this still exist. Welp.
There is a way to completely deactivate the top part of the display to completely hide notch. But I don't want clock on the left of the notch I want it on both. There is a way?

Rubbish? I´d tested all of the phones:
- S8 & S8+
- S9 & S9+
-Note 8
All of them don´t had any display issues.
I´d tested:
- Mate 10 Pro
- P20 Pro
All of them had uneveness and lines on the OLED Display
I´d tested now:
- OnePlus 6
THis phone has uneveness, too.
Now I have OnePlus 5T and this phone has a perfect OLED display.
If I have the chance, to get a samsung phone with OnePlus Oxygen OS, I would like to swap asap!

i rest my case as you said all are perfect this proves other wise
Got the same issue. Also on my fourth device already because of loose alert sliders. my fourth device has a loose alert slider and an uneven screen. right side is darker than the left side and its noticable in dark menus, notification shade etc on low brightness
No problems for me here in terms of uniformity.
Great panel, but I wish the calibration was better:
- calibration too cold
- oversaturated
- gamma way too high
- black crush
I had this problem in 2 Oneplus 6. I made a RMA and got a new unit, without the banding, but a defective corners (a white glow in dark images). So I got another one, finally a perfect unit.
The other one was purchased via amazon, with the same banding issue, so I got an exchange.
All of them were red Oneplus 6.
The OP customer service was very helpfull resolving the problem. I give a 10 to them.
Anyone can check the screen with this images or an app called oled tools. You need a dark enviroment and low brightness
Im kind of hestitant to replace since im on my fourth device already and dont feel like waiting anymore. Thinking about returning and waiting for the 6t. Id have to use my galaxy s5 for a few extra months though...
I just received my replacement unit 2 days ago, I was waiting for it for almost a MONTH. Unfortunately, I still have the screen issue. I can't believe I was waiting for nothing. While waiting for the replacement, I only used a f***ing keypad phone, and it was really hard for me. Have I known this issue is fairly common, I haven't RMA'd my unit just to have a big chance to have the same issue again.

General Not a fan of this phone

So this is probably the worst display I have seen in a phone in years.
Little back story here. Right now I have 2 phones, one is up for sale on Swappa (OnePlus 9 Pro) which is a long story on why I'm selling it, and my temporary daily driver is a Motorola Power 2021. I got Moto because the 9Pro was unusable at the time and I needed something quick and cheap to hold me over until I figured out a long-term solution. Yea, 1st world issues here. lol
Well, once I fired up the Moto Power, I absolutely loved it but it just wasn't powerful enough and I knew I needed a bit more memory and a slightly faster CPU. So when the Edge was announced, I thought, well hell, I'll sell the 9Pro and grab an Edge. This would leave my Power as a backup to me and my family.
Anyway, I unboxed the Edge, powered it one and began the setup. About 30 seconds into the setup I realized the display is worse than the $200 Power. Heh. Screw this I'm returning the phone.
So what's wrong with the display? First of all the off-axis is horrid. Anything over 20 degrees, it dims out and the colors shift. On-axis, I see nothing but a halo effect that was the norm of LCD displays from 2010, like the OG droid, which gave me a headache.
I really wanted to like this phone, and I think I would have if it wasn't for the display. I didn't get a chance to mess with it before purchase, so there is that. I wouldn't have bought it if I had hands-on with it first.
So not sure where I'm going from here. I guess unlist my 9pro and deal with it's issues until they fix their crappy firmware or maybe a Pixel 5a, but I'm old and need a larger display. Maybe another Moto like the the G Stylus or the Edge 2020. I just know I will be window shopping next time.
I just wanted to share my experience. I hope everyone enjoys this device, it's just not for me.
Cheers!
Thanks for your input. That's what was worrying me, was the display. I think I'll look else where.
If anyone has any specific questions regarding the display, or anything where it doesn't require inserting a SIM, let me know. I'm still waiting to get confirmation from Motorola about returning the device, so I have time to do testing for those who are curious.
I have one question for anyone out there that can answer, as I'm not very knowledgeable on display technologies that aren't AMOLED...
The comparison chart on Motorola's website show the following for display technologies:
Motorola Edge (2021) - LCD, 8-bit, 144Hz refresh rate, Up to 576Hz touch latency
The Cheap Moto G Power (2021) - Simply says: IPS
and then the two phones I'm interested in, the Stylus and the One 5G Ace both indicate LTPS displays.
Okay so I know that the LCD display the Edge has; my eyes are not fond of.
The Moto G Power has IPS, I feel is quite nice. It's not AMOLED, and when turned sideways while wearing polarized glasses, of course turns the display black.
What's up with LTPS??! I've never heard of this technology before. Is this better or worse than LCD and or IPS?
Thanks!
Liking mine
Screen is IPS and the viewing angle is like One Ace
144Hz rate doesn't have much benefit due to LCD/IPS response time
Set to automatic is the best bet

LTPS is Low-Temperature PolySilicon. A substrate the LCD is manufactured onto. It is still an IPS LCD screen, just manufactured using a different process that also has the benefit of making it easier to create LCDs with a higher pixel density. It also improves the display's power consumption over older IPS LCDs.
The screen on my Edge 2021 is just like the screen on my previous phones that use IPS LCDs, be it LTPS or not. If the Edge screen bothers you but other IPS LCD displays do not, then I think it's your device that is the problem and not the technology itself.
I'm extremely flicker sensitive and avoid using AMOLED screens. The Edge's screen is nice for me to look at.
